Description

The invention relates to the design and production of trimarans, in particular, but not exclusively to sail.

De tels trimarans sont représentés par US-A-4 326 475 et G B-A-1 304 511.Such trimarans are represented by US-A-4,326,475 and G B-A-1,304,511.

The trimaran known from the document cited first comprises, according to the preamble to claim 1, three floats forming a static flotation system of three flotation zones arranged at the top of a triangle and a bridge to which these floats are connected, however, on the one hand, each of the three floats is pivotally mounted relative to the bridge around at least one axis, one of the pivot axes being substantially vertical, on the other hand, at least one float is provided with a fin of operation, which is essentially vertical, which is pivotally mounted relative to this float about a pivot axis and which is provided with a device for adjusting its pivoting.

The lessons resulting from the numerous sporting sailing competitions have two main contradictory aspects: on the one hand, the fastest boats in strong winds are those with several floats, and, in particular, trimarans, on the other hand, these boats the fastest have insufficient mechanical strength and are therefore subject to numerous damages at sea. This second aspect is linked to the very large values of the mechanical stresses to which the structure of a multihull boat, such as a trimaran , is subjected in particular in the junction or connection elements of the various floats. There is also a certain deterioration in the stability of the trimarans, beyond a limit of use, from which such a boat, from very stable suddenly becomes very unstable. Finally, in certain trimarans, such as that shown in US-A-4326475, if, with a view to reducing the stresses on the connections between the floats and the deck, these comprise pivot axes, in particular vertical ones, the maneuverability of the trimaran is generally deteriorated due to the absence, in these known structures, of stabilizing fins and of devices for adjusting the pivoting of the maneuvering fins correctly adapted to their function.

The object of the invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and its object is to propose new structures capable of achieving the aim of producing trimarans having improved mechanical strength and maneuverability compared to the trimarans known to date.

To this end, the trimaran previously described is supplemented by the following provisions:
  • 1) each float is provided with a stabilization fin disposed vertically behind the substantially vertical pivot axis of the float; and,
  • 2) the pivot axis of each maneuvering fin is substantially vertical and is arranged in front of the pivot axis of the corresponding float.

The following advantageous arrangements are also preferably adopted: the stabilization fin is either fixed relative to said float, or pivotally mounted relative to the float about a vertical axis, and is then provided with a device for adjustment of its pivoting.

The main advantage of the claimed trimaran lies in obtaining both good stabilization of the floats and good maneuverability, due to the simultaneous adoption of the stabilization fins, on the one hand, of maneuvering, 'somewhere else.

The invention will be better understood, and secondary characteristics and their advantages will appear during the description of an embodiment given below by way of example.

The sailboat represented is a trimaran and comprises, in the configuration of the drawings, with respect to a trirectangle trihedron of reference Oxyz, in which Ox is the horizontal longitudinal axis of the sailboat facing forward, Oy is a horizontal transverse axis, Oz is an ascending vertical axis:
  • a front float 1, offset transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis Ox, located on board,
  • - another front float 2, identical to the previous one and placed at triborg, symmetrically to float 1 relative to the plane xOz,
  • a rear float 3, located behind the two front floats 1 and 2 symmetrically with respect to the plane xOz, which therefore constitutes, in the configuration described, the median plane of both the rear float 3 and the trimaran,
  • - a bridge 4, which has numerous notches, which is connected to the floats by various arms (5 and 6, for the connection to each of the floats 1,2, and 7 and 8 for the connection to the rear float 3), and which supports, at its rear part, the navigation shelter 9 of the crew,
  • - A beam 10, which is arranged in front of the bridge 4, transversely parallel to the plane yOz, extending substantially horizontally and being held in position relative to the bridge 4, in an adjustable position, in particular by means of ropes 11 by connecting its ends to the navigation shelter 9,
  • - a mast 12, which rises vertically with its base fixed on the beam 10,
  • - A mainsail 13 which is supported by the mast 12 and extends substantially parallel to the plane yOz.

The devices for connecting the deck 4 to the floats are specific. The one relating to the starboard forward float 2 is described below. A support 14 in T, the leg 15 oriented upwards and the bar 16 of the T being horizontal, is pivotally mounted, around a geometric axis A parallel to the axis Oy, by means of the two parts of the bar 16 of the T which constitute trunnions and rest in bearings 17 fixed on the float 2. The vertical leg 15 of the support 14 constitutes a trunnion and allows the mounting pivoting around a vertical geometric axis B of the arm 6 and of the arm 5, both welded (18) to the same bushing 19. The ends 5a and 6a, opposite the bushing 19, are provided with ball joint ends 20 which are, on the one hand, fixed to the bridge 4 by horizontal axes 21 substantially perpendicular to the arm considered (5 or 6), on the other hand, fixed to the considered arm (5 or 6) by their threaded part (22, 23). Note that a jack 24 is disposed between each arm 6 and the bridge 4 and allows either to adjust the position of said arm relative to the bridge, or to make a flexible suspension, when its active chamber is connected to a gas accumulator under pressure. Note also that the rear float 3 is also connected to the deck 4 by means of a support 14 which allows pivoting around axes A horizontal and B vertical.

The device for fixing the beam 10 comprises:
  • a bearing 25, with a vertical axis 26, formed in the deck 4,
  • a pin 27, mounted in the bearing 25 and provided, on its upper edge, with a support 28 of a horizontal axis 29 (parallel, in the configuration shown, to Ox),
  • an intermediate piece 30, which is pivotally mounted on the support 28 around the axis 29,
  • a slide 31 pivotally mounted at the upper part of the intermediate piece 30 around a horizontal axis 32, orthogonal to the axis 29,
  • - Four rollers 33 and 34, with axes oblique to each other, carried by the slide 31, and constituting a guide and support device for a rail 35 disposed at the bottom of the beam 10, the direction of sliding of the rail 35 relative to the slide 31 being substantially parallel to the axis 32. The sliding device - slide 31, rail 35, rollers 33, 34 - is known per se (for example, brand "Barbarossa").

Thus, the beam 10 can oscillate around three orthogonal axes (26, 29, 32) and slide parallel to its own axis.

Each float is, moreover, provided with substantially vertical fins, contained in the vertical longitudinal plane of symmetry of the float.

Chacun des flotteurs avant 1, comprend:

  • - un aileron 36, qui est monté pivotant autour d'un axe sensiblement vertical 37 disposé à l'avant du flotteur, nettement en avant de l'axe B du dispositif 14 correspondant au flotteur concerné; cet aileron a, en outre, son orientation autour de l'axe 37 réglable au moyen d'un dispositif connu 38 de commande à distance depuis l'abri de navigation 9, tel que les dispositifs commercialisés sous la marque «W. H. Den Ouden, Ve- tus»;
Each of the front floats 1, includes:
  • - A fin 36, which is pivotally mounted about a substantially vertical axis 37 disposed in front of the float, clearly in front of the axis B of the device 14 corresponding to the float concerned; this fin has, in addition, its orientation around the axis 37 adjustable by means of a known device 38 for remote control from the navigation shelter 9, such as the devices sold under the brand "WH Den Ouden, Ve - you s";
  • - A fin 39, which is pivotally mounted about a substantially vertical axis 40 disposed at the rear of the float, clearly behind the axis B of the device 14; this fin 39 has, moreover, its orientation around the axis 40 adjustable by means of another device 38 for remote control from the navigation shelter 9.

Le flotteur arrière 3 comprend:

  • - un aileron 41, monté pivotant autour d'un axe vertical 42 situé en avant de l'axe B du dispositif 14, mais, cette fois, voisin dudit axe B; l'aileron 41 est également muni d'un dispositif 38 de commande à distance de son orientation;
The rear float 3 includes:
  • - A fin 41, pivotally mounted about a vertical axis 42 located in front of the axis B of the device 14, but, this time, close to said axis B; the fin 41 is also provided with a device 38 for remote control of its orientation;
  • - a fin 43, fixed relative to the float 3 and situated at the rear of this float, clearly behind the axis B of the device 14.

  • - la conception même à trois flotteurs 1, et 3;
  • - la pénétration correcte de chaque flotteur dans la mer, du fait du maintien possible de ces flotteurs dans les meilleures configurations de flottabilité, par suite des possibilités d'inclinaison très grandes autour d'axes horizontaux (A, 21) par rapport au pont 4;
The trimaran, which has been described, has exceptional nautical and maneuverability qualities, in particular, in relation to:
  • - the very design with three floats 1, and 3;
  • - the correct penetration of each float into the sea, due to the possible maintenance of these floats in the best buoyancy configurations, as a result of the very large inclination possibilities around horizontal axes (A, 21) relative to deck 4 ;
  • - mainly, obtaining, on the one hand, the self-stabilization of the floats because of their possible orientation around vertical axes (B) and ailerons, called stabilization, 39, 43 with which they are provided, on the other hand, the adjustment of the angles between the longitudinal axis of each float and the direction of advance of the trimaran by means of the adjustment of the orientation of the ailerons, called maneuvers, 36,41.

The reluctance that many users expressed with regard to known trimarans can no longer be maintained vis-à-vis the new construction proposed. This will therefore make viable boats which were not previously viable and which, for this reason, were not widely adopted despite their known advantages of high speed.
