Definitions
- the invention relates to a method and a device for compacting foundry molding material, in particular wet molding sand, by the sudden action of gas pressure on the molding material heaped over the model.
- Compression methods of this type are known in several embodiments (e.g. DE-B-1 961 234, DE-A-29 49 340) and have recently gained increasing economic importance. They differ essentially in the way in which the pressure wave is generated. For example, either a high-pressure gas contained in a pre-pressure space is suddenly released (DE-B-1 961 234) or the gas pressure is generated directly above the molding space by the explosion of a combustible gas mixture. In addition to these two basic methods, a large number of variants are known, which need not be discussed here, since they do not affect the invention. In all embodiments, the pressure wave generated hits the molding material surface and then leads to compression of the molding material.
- the degree of compression depends not only on the parameters (pressure, speed) of the gas pressure wave, but also on the height of the molding material filling.
- the mold material coverage of the model below which a satisfactory degree of compaction can no longer be achieved.
- the molding material coverage above which the mold back in particular no longer has sufficient compression. It is therefore usually worked with an excess of molding material, which in the former case leads to an unnecessary height of the mold, in the second case to an unnecessary excess of molding material which must be stripped off after compression.
- the invention is based on the object of proposing a method and a device with the aid of which uniform compaction over the mold height can be achieved with a minimal requirement for molding material.
- This object is achieved in that a gas-permeable, freely movable additional mass is loosely placed on the free molding material surface and that the gas pressure is brought into effect on the free surface of the additional mass.
- the invention also differs from other known proposals, according to which a cover is placed on the surface of the molding material. This acts, even if it is made of elastic material (US-A-2 830 339), practically like a compression piston, without the compression gas being able to penetrate into the molding material bed.
- a cover is placed on the surface of the molding material. This acts, even if it is made of elastic material (US-A-2 830 339), practically like a compression piston, without the compression gas being able to penetrate into the molding material bed.
- DE-A-29 49 340 in which the molding surface is completely or partially provided with a gas-impermeable cover in the course of an explosion compression. This is said to either prevent the molding material from crumbling at the back of the mold or to provide less densely compressed areas at the covered areas.
- the molding surface is approximately uniformly flat, which cannot be achieved with the previously known methods. Due to the optimization of the molding material mass, the molding material supernatant, which is necessary in many cases, can be better regulated and, above all, set at a lower height.
- the gas energy ie the gas pressure and / or the gas volume, can be reduced compared to the known methods with the additional mass, so that in particular there is a reduction in the gas requirement.
- the fiction can Carry out appropriate procedures regardless of whether the molding material is compressed from above or from below.
- the additional mass consists of several individual masses which are movable in the direction perpendicular to the molding material surface, it is ensured that each individual mass can move in accordance with the impulse force communicated by the pressure wave and pass it on to the molding material particles.
- the additional mass has a distribution of the individual mass adapted to the contour of the model in such a way that the mass is lower over high model contours than over deep contours.
- the invention is based on a device with a mold box closed on one side by a model plate with the model, a filling frame that continues this, and a device for generating or storing gas at high pressure, which suddenly has an effect on the molding material in the filling frame brought.
- Such a device is characterized in accordance with the invention in that a gas-permeable additional mass which covers this in total can be placed on the free molding material surface and can be removed therefrom after compression.
- the additional mass is thus in each working cycle of the device, for. B. a molding machine, placed on the molding material filled in the mold space, then brought the gas pressure wave to effect and after venting the mold space, the additional mass removed from the compressed mold.
- the additional mass can be formed from a perforated plate, but in a preferred embodiment of the device consists of particles of greater specific weight than the molding material and a gas-permeable and flexible covering enclosing these particles.
- the flow resistance of this additional mass and thus the thrust force generated by it can be influenced by the particle shape and its bulk density, so that regulation of the desired effects is possible not only via the size of the additional mass, but also via the aforementioned parameters.
- the additional mass advantageously consists of a bed of metal particles and a fabric enclosing them.
- the metal particles can be, for example, granules, shot or the like, while the fabric can be made of plastic or - in the case of compression by explosive forces with corresponding temperature development - made of wire.
- the additional mass constructed in this way is, at least to a limited extent, freely suspended or supported, so that it can be placed and removed on the one hand and can follow the forces acting on it unhindered on the other hand.
- a model plate 1 with a model 2 can be seen, which closes a molding box 3 on the underside.
- a filling frame 4 is placed on the molding box 3 and is continued in a gas collecting space 5.
- an end plate 6 can be seen as an integral part of a machine stand, against which the parts of the molding space are pressed before the compression process.
- the devices necessary for the manipulation of the molding box 3, the filling frame 4 and the gas collecting space 5, as well as those for filling the molding space with molding sand, can be of a conventional type and are therefore not shown in detail.
- a container 7 is connected to the gas collecting space 5 via a line 8, in which container either compressed gas is stored or is generated by the explosion of a combustible gas mixture.
- a valve can optionally be arranged which, after opening, allows the pressure wave to pass into the gas collecting space.
- This device also includes an additional mass 10 which is placed on the free molding material surface 11 within the filling frame 4 before the compression process.
- This additional mass 10 consists of an outer shell 12, for example a perforated plate, a fabric or the like. And a filling 13 enclosed by this of particles of high specific weight, for. B. metal granules, metal shot or the like.
- the additional mass is fastened to a lifting device 14 by means of a pull rope 15, by means of which it can be lowered onto the surface of the molding material and later lifted from the compacted form.
- the traction cable 15 gives the additional mass 10 the freedom of movement necessary for the compression stroke in the direction perpendicular to the molding material surface.
- the additional mass can also be mounted on the lifting device 14 via a pawl which engages with a corresponding catch on the additional mass in order to be able to lift it off the finished shape. To apply the additional mass, this latch then only has to be loosened so that it falls on the molding material filling.
