Die in letzter Zeit gestiegenen Energiepreise waren der Anlaß zur Suche nach verschiedenen Sparmaßnahmen. Eine derselben betrifft die zunehmende Verwendung von Dreifach- oder Vierfach-Fensterscheiben. Durch Verwendung sogenannter versiegelter Gläser, welche allgemein nicht geöffnet werden können, geschieht dies einfach durch Steigerung der Menge der Scheiben, welche miteinander verbunden werden. Bei Verwendung üblicher Scheiben, die geöffnet werden können, ist das Problem der Steigerung der Menge der Scheiben nicht so einfach zu lösen. Oft ist die Zufügung und Einpassung einer dritten zusätzlichen Fensterscheibe auf der Basis einer alten festen Fensterkombination kompliziert, da der Raum zwischen den alten Glasscheiben ziemlich begrenzt ist. Um zumindest die Bedingungen für die Reinigung der Innenflächen einigermassen komfortabel zu halten, ist es notwendig, die zusätzliche Glasscheibe mit Scharnieren auszustatten, so daß sie zur Reinigung geöffnet werden kann.
