Description
The invention relates to a method for producing photographic contrasts with the aid of metallic mercury separated from mercury salts.
It is well known that mercury forms two series of salts. These series of salts are called mercuro- or Hg (I) compounds and mercury or Hg (II) compounds. The behavior of the mercury salts in solutions was by A. Ogg, Zeitschrift Physikalische Chemie 27, 285, 1898, and by E. Abel, Journal of Inorganic Chemistry 26, 361, 1901, examined, it has been found that an equilibrium is established in such solutions, which is achieved by the Scheme ^
bestimmt werden kann und das sich sehr schnell einstellt.can be determined and that occurs very quickly.
This ion equilibrium has the result that, in the absence of metallic mercury, solutions of mercury salts that do not contain any mercury ions can be produced, but that solutions of mercury salts as admixtures with the Hg 2 + + ions always contain Hg + + ions and metallic mercury . If the solution is saturated with metallic mercury, the ratio between the concentrations of Hg ++ and Hg 2 ++ is approximately 1: 120, regardless of the absolute size of these concentrations. This is due to the fact that there are two types of ions with the same charge, namely Hg ++ and Hg 2 ++, which is only known for mercury.
Es ist möglich, aus ein Mercuro- und/oder ein Mercurisalz enthaltenden Lösungen metallisches Quecksilber abzuscheiden durch ReduktionIt is possible to convert metallic solutions containing a mercuro- and / or a mercuric salt Separate mercury through reduction

Es ist auch eine andere Herstellungsart metallischen Quecksilbers aus Mercurosalzen als durch Reduzieren möglich, und zwar durch deren Disproportionierung ίο mittels der ReaktionIt is also a different way of producing metallic mercury from mercury salts than by reducing it possible, through their disproportionation ίο by means of the reaction

was dadurch bewirkt wird, daß aus dem Gleichgewichtwhat is caused by being out of balance
1. metallisches Quecksilber entfernt wird, II. Mercuriionen entfernt werden.1. metallic mercury is removed, II. Mercury ions removed.
The following ways, among others, can be shaded to carry out procedure II:
i. Herstellung schlecht löslicher Mercuriverbindungen;i. Production of poorly soluble mercury compounds;
2. Herstellung wenig dissoziierter, z. B. komplexer Mercuriverbindungen; 3. Herstellung mercuriorganischer - Verbindungen.2. Production of little dissociated, z. B. more complex Mercury compounds; 3. Creation of mercuric organic compounds.
So in all of the cases mentioned the result will be that either by reducing or by removing from mercury ions metallic mercury arises in the atomic form, which when exceeded solubility is deposited as mercury from the solution. Otherwise it is for the procedure According to the invention, it is immaterial whether the mercury is solely due to disproportionation or else partly also resulted from reduction. However, this side reaction can never have a disruptive effect.
According to the process carried out here, photographic layers used, which contain light-sensitive o-oxy-diazonium compounds and mercuronitrate, which are attached to the Places where they are struck by light are decomposed and with the light decomposition product on them reacts with mercury ions which are out of the aforementioned equilibrium

As a result, almost equivalent amounts of mercury atoms are formed, which agglomerate to form mercury droplets, which are then intensified by physical development by means of a developer containing noble metal ions to give contrasts made of noble metal. For this purpose z. B. 6-methyl-i-oxy-2-diazonium-4-benzenesulfonic acid (Phot. J. 90 h , 34 to 40, 1950) is used.
B. Lichtempfindlichkeit, Spektralempfindlichkeit, Haltbarkeit und Löslichkeit, und man hat deshalb nach anderen lichtempfindlichen Stoffen gesucht, die auch dieA disadvantage of the method described in the aforementioned patent is that the "selection" is more photosensitive Substances that bring about the desired effect is very limited. As a result, " one is bound to the accidental properties of such a substance, which also determine the usefulness of the photochemical system, such as. B. T. Shimidzu, J. Chem. Shimidzu, J. Chem. Soc. 49, 533 (1886), furthermore NH 3 or NH 4 +, whose reaction with calomel and sublimate has been known for a very long time, and organic amino compounds, e.g. B. also pyridine and the corresponding ammonium ions, thiourea and derivatives thereof.
It was also known that these molecules and ions with both mercuric and mercuric compounds react, generally forming the same mercury compound, but also in the latter case metallic mercury.
In the making of the invention it has been found that it is possible to use photochemical Ways to produce various light decomposition products capable of converting mercuro compounds, e.g. B. from mercuronitrate solutions to remove the mercurion and thus the disproportionation of the mercurion to convey. As a result, metallic mercury is deposited, which turns into mercury nuclei united, the otherwise known way through physical development to metal contrasts can be reinforced. It has been found that for this purpose one can use both organic Compounds as well as inorganic compounds can start.
Successfully usable photosensitive substances must meet the conditions that they 1. in the Exposure to split off disproportionate or reducing molecules or ions, 2. so stable in the dark are that mercury ions do not remove these molecules or ions from the compound during the exposure time, 3. have no disproportionate or reducing effect on mercuro ions themselves.
It is particularly easy to check whether a given substance fulfills these conditions.
For this purpose, 2 parts of a solution, e.g. B. 0.1 n, which exposes a part and then to a mercuronitrate solution added to both. The unexposed solution must then not contain any metallic mercury deposit, while the exposed one must do this against it. Disproportionation can be through potentiometric Titration or by a qualitative reaction.
Es hat sich dabei z. B. ergeben, daß lichtempfindliehe Verbindungen, die Sulfidionen enthalten, stetsIt has z. B. show that photosensitive Compounds containing sulfide ions always
These ions and molecules are preferably used in the form of stable complex compounds, in which the disproportionating molecules or ίο ions are bound to at least one central metal ion are, in addition, especially the organic cyano and sulfite compounds have the desired effect.
Complex compounds of various metal ions can be used, such as e.g. B. the complex connections of Cr (III), Fe (III), Co (III), Rh (III), Mo (IV), Mo (V), W (IV), Mn (III). Especially that Cyanion forms sufficiently stable complexes with many metal ions, which usually form with exposure to light decompose with visible or near ultraviolet light. Not in a photographic sense light-sensitive complex metal compounds cannot be used for the method according to the invention, such as B. complex platinum cyanides, which only fluoresce when irradiated and do not decompose.
It is further understood that the par value at which these complex compounds are used in view of their stability must be taken into account. Of the organic cyano compounds. fertilizers, the cyanohydrins of aldehydes, especially aromatic aldehydes, can be used. By introducing substituents into the nucleus, especially nitro groups, the absorption spectrum of these compounds can advantageously be selected. Excellent connections are e.g. B. ortho- and paranitromandelic acid nitrile. In addition, excellent results can be achieved with diazocyanides, the CN group of the —N 2 CN group being ionizable by exposure to light. Also bismuth compounds of aldehydes, e.g. B. of nitrobenzaldehyde, give good results.
Zur Herstellung photographischer Kontraste nachFor the production of photographic contrasts according to
Das Mercuronitrat kann jedoch auch bereits zu der Sensibilisierflüssigkeit zugesetzt werden.of the invention may be a lyophile layer, e.g. B. made of paper, regenerated cellulose or textiles with a Solution of a photosensitive compound to be soaked; after exposure, the layer becomes a Solution, the mercuro ions, e.g. B. 0.01 n-mercuronitrate, and then in a physical developer brought. The mercuronitrate can, however, also already be added to the sensitizing liquid.
