Description
- Die Polymerisierung von zyklischen Ethern zu Polyethern wird durch heterogene Katalysatoren, die ausgewählte Metallkationen enthalten, katalysiert. Die Depolymerisierung von Polytetrahydrofuranen zu Tetrahydrofuranen wird durch einen heterogenen Katalysator katalysiert, der ein Metall-Perfluoralkylsufonat, vorzugsweise ein Triflat, an den Katalysator gebunden enthält.
- Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Depolymerisierung eines Polyethers zu Tetrahydrofuran und besteht darin, daß man bei einer Temperatur von etwa 100ºC bis etwa 250ºC ein Polymer, das im wesentlichen aus einer oder mehreren Wiederholungseinheiten der Formel
- -[CHR¹CR²R³CR²R³CHR&sup4;O]-
- besteht, wobei R¹, R², R³ und R&sup4; jeweils unabhängig voneinander Wasserstoff oder Hydrocarbyl mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen sind, mit einem heterogenen Katalysator in Kontakt bringt, der ein Metall-Perfluoralkylsulfonat enthält, das mit der Oberfläche des Katalysators verbunden ist, wobei das Metall ausgewählt ist aus Strontium, Barium, Scandium, Yttrium, den Seltenerdmetallen, Titan, Zirkonium, Hafnium, Vanadium, Niob, Chrom, Molybdän, Tantal, Wolfram, Rhenium, Eisen, Ruthenium, Osmium, Rhodium, Iridium, Palladium, Platin, Kupfer, Silber, Gold, Zink, Cadmium, Quecksilber, Aluminium, Gallium, Indium, Thulium, Germanium, Zinn, Blei, Arsen, Antimon und Bismuth.
- Der hierin verwendete Katalysator enthält ausgewählte Metallkationen. Bevorzugte Metallkationen sind diejenigen von Strontium, Scandium, Yttrium, den Seltenerdmetallen, Titan, Zirkonium, Hafnium, Vanadium, Niob, Tantal, Chrom, Molybdän, Wolfram, Rhenium, Eisen, Ruthenium, Palladium, Kupfer, Gold, Zink, Zinn und Bismuth. Stärker bevorzugte Metalle sind Yttrium, die Seltenerdmetalle, Scandium und Zirkonium. Besonders bevorzugte Metalle sind Yttrium, Ytterbium, Dysprosium, Erbium, Neodymium, Lanthan, Scandium und Zirkonium. Ein weiteres bevorzugtes Metall ist "Mischmetall" (manchmal auch "Didymium" genannt), bei dem es sich um eine Mischung aus Seltenerdmetallen handelt, wie sie aus dem Erz erhalten werden. Mit Seltenerden sind hierin Lanthan, Cer, Praeseodymium Neodymium, Promethium, Samarium, Europium, Gadolinium, Terbium, Dysprosium, Holmium, Erbium, Thulium, Ytterbium und Lutetium gemeint. Unter Perfluoralkylsulfonat wird hierin ein Metallsalz eines Perfluoralkylsulfonats verstanden, bei dem das Metall an eine oder mehrere Perfluoralkylsulfonat-Gruppen gebunden ist.
- In dem heterogenen Katalysator ist ein "katalytisches" Metall-Perfluoralkylsulfonat mit der Oberfläche eines Materials verbunden, das als heterogener Träger für das Metall-Perfluoralkylsulfonat wirkt. In bestimmten Ausführungsformen wird das Metall nicht durch das Perfluoralkylsulfonat mit der Oberfläche verbunden, sondern durch eine andere Bindung oder einen anderen Liganden. Das katalytische Metall sollte mindestens ein Perfluoralkylsulfonat-Anion aufweisen, das mit ihm verbunden ist, und vorzugsweise sollte es sich bei allen Gruppen, außer bei der Gruppe, die das Metall mit der Trägeroberfläche verbindet, um Perfluoralkylsulfonat handeln.
- Das Metall kann mittels einer kovalenten Bindung oder durch Koordinierung oder auf irgendeine andere Weise mit der Oberfläche verbunden werden. Es wird bevorzugt, daß keine nennenswerten Mengen (< 25%, vorzugsweise < 10%) des katalytischen Metalls von den Polymerisations-Verfahrensflüssigkeiten aus dem katalytischen Metall ausgelaugt werden können. Bei einer Art der Verbindung wird ein Ligand, der sich mit dem Metallkation koordinieren kann, mittels einer oder mehrerer kovalenter Bindungen mit der Oberfläche des Trägers verbunden, und dann wird das Metallkation mit dem Liganden koordiniert, wobei das Metallkation auf der Trägeroberfläche fixiert wird. Besonders geeignet dafür sind Silikonverbindungen, mit denen der Ligand durch eine (gegenüber Hydrolyse und den Polymerisations-Verfahrensbedingungen) stabile Bindung verbunden ist, und bei dem das Silikon direkt mit Gruppen verbunden wird, die leicht zu hydrolysieren sind. Wenn diese hydrolytisch instabilen Gruppen aus dem Silikonatom hydrolysiert werden, kann sich die resultierende "Verbindung" leicht an Oberflächen binden, auf denen Hydroxylgruppen vorhanden sind. Viele herkömmliche Träger, wie Aluminiumoxid, Siliciumdioxid (-gel), viele Metalloxide und andere weisen solche Oberflächen auf. Nachdem der Ligand mit der Oberfläche verbunden wurde, wird eine geeignete Metallverbindung mit der Oberfläche, die die Liganden enthält, in Kontakt gebracht, und das Metallkation wird an der Trägeroberfläche fixiert. Siehe die Beispiele 1 bis 7 für diese Verfahren.
- Bei den heterogenen Trägern für solche Katalysatoren kann es sich um diejenigen handeln, die herkömmlicherweise für getragene Katalysatoren verwendet werden. Es wird bevorzugt, daß sie eine relativ große Oberfläche, mindestens 25 m²/g, aufweisen, und es wird auch bevorzugt, daß der Träger anorganisch ist (anorganisch schließt verschiedene Kohlenstoff-Formen, wie Aktivkohle, Graphit etc. ein). Geeignete Träger schließen Aluminiumoxid, Siliciumdioxid, Siliciumdioxid-Aluminate, Kohlenstoff, Zirkoniumoxid, Yttriumoxid, Magnesiumoxid, Ceroxid, Aluminiumfluorid und Bariumsulfat ein. Bevorzugte Träger sind Aluminiumoxid, Siliciumdioxid, Siliciumdioxid- Aluminate, Kohlenstoff und Zirkoniumoxid. Es wird bevorzugt, daß die Träger an sich sauer sind. Obwohl nicht kritisch, beträgt eine geeignete Menge des katalytischen Metalls auf dem Katalysator etwa 0,1 bis etwa 20 Gew.-%, gemessen als katalytisches Metall.
- Das Depolymerisierungsverfahren wird bei etwa 100ºC bis etwa 250ºC, vorzugsweise etwa 130ºC bis etwa 200ºC durchgeführt. Obwohl Luft verwendet werden kann, um das Verfahren abzudecken, wird es bevorzugt, eine inerte Atmosphäre, wie Stickstoff, zu verwenden, um mögliche Nebenreaktionen zu vermeiden. Ein Lösungsmittel kann verwendet werden, aber es wird bevorzugt, das Verfahren ohne Lösungsmittel durchzuführen.
- Die Menge an Katalysator im Vergleich zum vorhandenen Polyether ist nicht kritisch, 0,1-15 Gew.-% (Prozent Katalysator zu Polyether) sind brauchbar, vorzugsweise etwa 1 bis 3 Gew.-% Katalysator.
- Das Depolymerisierungsverfahren kann durchgeführt werden, indem man den Polyether in Anwesenheit des heterogenen Katalysators einfach erwärmt. Um ein Verdampfen des oft flüchtigen Tetrahydrofurans zu vermeiden, kann ein Druckgefäß erforderlich sein. Es wird jedoch bevorzugt, die Depolymerisierung durchzuführen, während man das (substituierte) Tetrahydrofuran kontinuierlich abdestilliert, sobald es sich bildet. Man nimmt an, daß dies eine Steuerung des Verfahren gewährleistet, um das monomere Tetrahydrofuran zu erzeugen.
- In dem Depolymerisierungsverfahren kann der heterogene Katalysator durch Filtern und, falls gewünscht, durch Trocknen rückgewonnen und wiederverwertet werden. Der rückgewonnene Katalysator kann erneut in dem Depolymerisierungsverfahren verwendet werden.
- Das obige Verfahren kann diskontinuierlich, halbkontinuierlich oder kontinuierlich durchgeführt werden. Verfahren vom kontinuierlichen Typ werden bevorzugt.

- 25 g handelsübliche Aluminiumoxid-Pellets AL-3945 (3,2 mm Durchmesser · 3,2 mm) wurden in 250 ml Wasser gegeben und der pH mit Essigsäure auf 3 eingestellt. Nach 15-minütigem Rühren wurden die Pellets mittels Filtern gesammelt und sauggetrocknet. Der pH einer Lösung aus 190 ml Ethanol und 10 ml Wasser wurde mit Essigsäure auf 5 eingestellt und 5 g DETM wurden zugegeben. Nach 5-minütigem Rühren wurden die Aluminiumoxid-Pellets zugegeben und 30 Minuten lang gerührt. Die überstehende Flüssigkeit wurde dann abdekantiert und die Pellets mit 2 · 25 ml Ethanol gewaschen und sauggetrocknet. Der Feststoff wurde in strömendem Stickstoff durch einstündiges Erwärmen auf 110ºC getrocknet und dann abgedichtet und in eine Stickstoff-Glovebox gelegt. 5 g Yttriumtriflat wurden in 50 ml Acetonitril aufgelöst und zu den trockenen Aluminiumoxid-Pellets gegeben. Diese Aufschlämmung ließ man über Nacht ungestört in der Glovebox absetzen und dann wurde sie bis zur Trockene im Vakuum verdampft. Der Feststoff wurde dann mit 2 · 25 ml Acetonitril extrahiert, gefiltert und mit Acetonitril gewaschen. Das Verdampfen aller Waschlösungen und Extrakte zeigte an, daß -50% des anfänglichen Yttriumtriflats auf den Pellets zurückgehalten wurden. Die Pellets wurde sauggetrocknet und dann eine Stunde lang in strömendem Stickstoff bei 110ºC getrocknet, bevor sie vor dem Testen zum Sammeln und Aufbewahren in die Glovebox zurückgegeben wurden.
- 25 g handelsübliche Siliciumdioxid-Aluminiumoxid-Pellets (Alfa cat # 31269; 91% Al&sub2;O&sub3;, 6% SiO&sub2;) wurden in 250 ml Wasser gegeben und der pH mit Essigsäure auf 3 eingestellt. Die Pellets wurden dann auf die gleiche Weise wie im vorstehenden Beispiel 1 beschrieben behandelt.
- 25 g handelsübliche Aluminiumoxid-Pellets (Al-3945, 3,2 mm Durchmesser x 3,2 mm) wurden in 250 ml Wasser gegeben und der pH mit Essigsäure auf 3 eingestellt. Die Pellets wurden dann auf die gleiche Weise wie im vorstehenden Beispiel 1 beschrieben behandelt, außer daß statt Yttriumtriflat Zirkoniumtriflat verwendet wurde.
- 95 ml Ethanol und 5 ml Wasser wurden gemischt und der pH wurde mit Essigsäure auf 5 eingestellt. 2 g DETM wurden zugegeben und die Mischung wurde 5 Minuten lang gerührt. 10 g γ-Aluminiumoxid wurden zugegeben und die Mischung wurde weitere 3 Minuten lang gerührt. Der Feststoff wurde absetzen gelassen und die überstehende Flüssigkeit wurde dekantiert. Der gewonnene Feststoff wurde dann zweimal mit je 25 ml Ethanol gewaschen und sauggetrocknet. Der Feststoff wurde schließlich in strömendem Stickstoff (200 ml/min) getrocknet, indem man ihn auf 110ºC erwärmte und eine Stunde lang bei dieser Temperatur hielt. Das abgekühlte Pulver wurde sofort eine Stickstoff-Glovebox gegeben.
- Unter einer trockenen Stickstoffatmosphäre in einer Glovebox wurden 0,5 g Yttriumtriflat in 25 ml Acetonitril aufgelöst und 5 g des vorstehend hergestellten Aluminiumoxid-Pulvers wurden zugegeben. Die Aufschlämmung wurde eine Stunde lang gerührt und dann gefiltert, mit 25 ml Acetonitril gespült und sauggetrocknet. Das Pulver wurde dann bis zur Trockene im Vakuum abgepumpt und unter Stickstoff aufbewahrt.
- 95 ml Ethanol und 5 ml Wasser wurden gemischt und der pH wurde mit Essigsäure auf 5 eingestellt. 2 g DETM wurden zugegeben und die Mischung wurde 5 Minuten lang gerührt. 10 g Siliciumdioxid wurden zugegeben und die Aufschlämmung wurde weitere 3 Minuten lang gerührt. Der Feststoff wurde sich absetzen gelassen und die überstehende Flüssigkeit wurde abdekantiert. Der gewonnene Feststoff wurde dann zweimal mit je 25 ml Ethanol gewaschen und sauggetrocknet. Der Feststoff wurde schließlich in strömendem Stickstoff (200 ml/min) getrocknet, indem man ihn auf 110ºC erwärmte und 1 Stunde lang bei dieser Temperatur hielt. Das abgekühlte Pulver wurde sofort in eine Stickstoff-Glovebox überführt.
- Unter einer trockenen Stickstoffatmosphäre in einer Glovebox wurden 0,5 g Bis- (n-cyclopentadienyl)tetrahydrofuran-bis(trifluormethansulfonato)zirkonium in 25 ml Acetonitril aufgelöst und 5 g des Siliciumdioxidpulvers wurden zugegeben. Die Aufschlämmung wurde 1 Stunde lang gerührt und dann gefiltert, mit 25 ml Acetonitril gespült und sauggetrocknet. Das Pulver wurde dann im Vakuum bis zur Trockene abgepumpt und unter Stickstoff aufbewahrt.
- 95 ml Ethanol und 5 ml Wasser wurden gemischt und der pH wurde mit Essigsäure auf 5 eingestellt. 2 g DETM wurden zugegeben und die Mischung wurde 5 Minuten lang gerührt. 10 g λ-Aluminiumoxid wurden zugegeben und die Aufschlämmung wurde weitere 3 Minuten lang gerührt. Der Feststoff wurde absetzen gelassen und die überstehende Flüssigkeit wurde abdekantiert. Der gewonnene Feststoff wurde dann zweimal mit je 5 ml Ethanol gewaschen und sauggetrocknet. Der Feststoff wurde schließlich in strömendem Stickstoff (200 ml/min) getrocknet, indem man ihn auf 110ºC erwärmte und eine Stunde lang bei dieser Temperatur hielt. Das abgekühlte Pulver wurde sofort in eine Stickstoff-Glovebox überführt.
- Unter einer trockenen Stickstoffatmosphäre in einer Glovebox wurden 0,5 g Bis- (n-cyclopentadienyl)tetrahydrofuran-bis(trifluormethansulfonato)zirkonium in 25 ml Acetonitril aufgelöst und 5 g des vorstehend hergestellten Aluminiumoxid-Pulvers wurden zugegeben. Die Aufschlämmung wurde 1 Stunde lang gerührt und dann ge filtert, mit 25 ml Acetonitril gespült und sauggetrocknet. Das Pulver wurde dann in Vakuum bis zur Trockene abgepumpt und unter Stickstoff aufbewahrt.
- 50 g Siliciumdioxid-Aluminiumoxid-Pellets (3,2 mm Durchmesser · 3,2 mm) wurden in 250 ml destilliertes Wasser gegeben. Der pH wurde mit Essigsäure auf 3 eingestellt und die Aufschlämmung wurde 15 Minuten lang gerührt. Die Pellets wurden durch Filtern gesammelt und dann zu einer Lösung aus 190 ml Ethanol, 10 ml Wasser, dessen pH mit Essigsäure auf 5 eingestellt war, gegeben und dann wurden 5 g DETM zugegeben. Es wurde 30 min lang gerührt und dann wurde die aufschwimmende Flüssigkeit abdekantiert. Die Pellets wurden zweimal mit je 25 ml Ethanol gewaschen und dann sauggetrocknet, bevor sie in strömendem Stickstoff (200 ml/min) 1 Stunde lang bei 110ºC getrocknet wurden. Die Pellets wurden dann in eine Stickstoff-Glovebox überführt. In der Glovebox wurden 10 Ytterbiumtriflat in 100 ml trockenem Acetonitril aufgelöst und diese Lösung wurde zu den trockenen Pellets gegeben. Die Aufschlämmung setzte sich dann über Nacht unter Stickstoff ab, bevor sie bis zur Trockene verdampft wurde. Der gewonnene Feststoff wurde dreimal mit je 25 ml trockenem Acetonitril gewaschen, sauggetrocknet und dann in strömendem Stickstoff 1 Stunde lang auf 110ºC erwärmt. Die trockenen Pellets wurden unter Stickstoff in einer Glovebox aufbewahrt.
- Polytetrahydrofuran mit Hydroxyl-Endgruppen (Terathane® 1000, 300 g, Aldrich) und das 10%-ige Ytterbiumtriflat mit einem Träger aus Siliciumdioxid-Aluminiumoxid von Beispiel 7 (10 g) wurden in einen 500 ml-Dreihalskolben gegeben, der mit einem Rührstab, einer Vigreaux-Kolonne [30,5 cm (12")] und einem Fraktionsdestillationskopf ausgerüstet war, gegeben. Eine Stickstoffspülung wurde angelegt und alle anderen Öffnungen wurden mit Glasstopfen abgedichtet. Die resultierende Mischung wurde mit einem Ölbad erwärmt und die resultierenden wasserklaren Destillationsfraktionen wurden wie folgt gesammelt:
- Gesamtgewicht des gesammelten Destillats: 296,72 g
- % Ausbeute (Gewinnung): 98,9%
- GC-Analysen der verschiedenen Fraktionen bestätigen, daß es sich bei dem Produkt um THF handelt.
- In einer Trockenbox wurde Zeolith HY (1,00 g) in einen ofengetrockneten 100 ml- RB-Kolben gegeben, der mit einem Rührstab ausgerüstet war. Der Kolben wurde mit einem Gummiverschluß abgedichtet und aus der Trockenbox genommen. Nach dem Anlegen einer Stickstoffspülung wurde THF (20,00 ml) mittels einer Spritze zugegeben nach 45 Minuten wurde Essigsäureanhydrid (1,00 ml) zugegeben. Nach dem Abfiltern des Zeolith-Katalysators und der Aufkonzentrierung des Filtrats wurde kein Polymer erhalten.
Claims (6)
1. Verfahren zur Depolymerisierung eines Polyethers zu einem Tetrahydrofuran,
umfassend die Schritte, daß bei einer Temperatur von 100ºC bis 250ºC ein
Polymer, das im wesentlichen aus einer oder mehreren sich wiederholenden
Einheiten der Formel
-[CHR¹CR²R³CR²R³CHR&sup4;O]-
besteht, wobei jedes R¹, R², R³ und R&sup4; unabhängig voneinander Wasserstoff oder
ein Kohlenwasserstoffrest ist, der 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatome enthält,
mit einem heterogenen Katalysator in Kontakt gebracht wird, der ein Metall-
Perfluoralkylsufonat enthält, das an die Oberfläche des Katalysators gebunden ist,
wobei das Metall ausgewählt ist aus Strontium, Barium, Scandium, Yttrium, den
Seltenerdmetallen, Titan, Zirkonium, Hafnium, Vanadium, Niob, Chrom,
Molybdän, Tantal, Wolfram, Rhenium, Eisen, Ruthenium, Osmium, Rhodium,
Iridium, Palladium, Platin, Kupfer, Silber, Gold, Zink, Cadmium, Quecksilber,
Aluminium, Gallium, Indium, Thulium, Germanium, Zinn, Blei, Arsen, Antimon
und Wismut.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei R¹, eines von R², beide von R³ sowie R&sup4;
Wasserstoff sind und das verbleibende R² ein Alkylrest ist, der 1-4
Kohlenstoffatome enthält.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei alle R¹, R², R³ und R&sup4; Wasserstoff sind.
4. Verfahren nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, wobei das Metallkation
Strontium, Scandium, Yttrium, ein Seltenerdmetall, Titan, Zirkonium, Hafnium,
Vandium, Niob, Tantal, Chrom, Molybdän, Wolfram, Rhenium, Eisen,
Ruthenium, Palladium, Kupfer, Gold, Zink, Zinn oder Wismut ist.
5. Verfahren nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, wobei der heterogene
Katalysatorträger Aluminiumoxid, Siliciumdioxid, Siliciumdioxid-Aluminat,
Kohlenstoff oder Zirkoniumdioxid ist.
6. Verfahren nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, wobei der heterogene
Katalysator so ist, daß das Metall nicht durch das Perfluoralkylsulfonat an die
Oberfläche gebunden ist, sondern durch eine andere Bindung oder einen anderen
Liganden.
