Fig. 6 und 7 zeigen die Anwendung des Apparates zum Reinigen der Böden längsschiffs. Am Stern und Steven des Schiffes werden durch ausgelegte Bäume aufsenbords die Blöcke e e^l angebracht und eine Kette m, welche um das Gangspill G geführt ist, mit den Enden an die beiden Kettenringe gg¹ befestigt, während die Ringe h h¹ durch zwei getrennte Ketten η ο mit dem Deck des Schiffes in Verbindung gebracht werden. Die eine dieser Ketten ist unter dem Kiel des Schiffes hindurchgeführt, wie Fig. 6 zeigt. Mit Hülfe dieser beiden Ketten wird der Apparat unter Wasser auf die erforderliche Tiefe an der Schiffswand hinuntergelassen und dann durch Anziehen derselben der Apparat mit den Messern fest gegen den Schiffsboden geprefst. Indem man das Gangspill dreht, zieht man den Apparat an dem Schiffsboden in horizontaler Richtung entlang und entfernt dabei auf der vom Schraper berührten Fläche die der Schiffswand anhaftenden Gegenstände. Indem man darauf die unter den Kiel durchgehende Kette etwas verlängert und die entgegengesetzte entsprechend anzieht, hebt man den Schraper um die eigene Länge an der Schiffswand empor. Man schrapt darauf mit Hülfe des Gangspills in gleicher Weise, wie vorher beschrieben, eine weitere Fläche des Schiffsbodens rein und fährt mit diesen Operationen fort, bis der Schraper die Wasserlinie erreicht hat. Darauf zieht man den Apparat mit Hülfe der senkrechten Ketten unter dem Kiel hindurch und arbeitet in ganz analoger Weise an der anderen Seite des Schiffes.Figures 6 and 7 show the use of the apparatus for cleaning the floors fore and aft.
