The production of drinking water takes place by evaporation of sea water under reduced Pressure and condensation of the evolved vapor, whereby as a heat source for the evaporation of fresh boiler steam and possibly exhaust steam from the engines present on the ship is used.
According to FIG. 1, the apparatus consists of an annular vessel E, which is closed at the top and bottom, in which a cylindrical vessel C, which is also closed at the top and bottom, is inserted. Both boilers are e respectively from tubes. e 1 traversed, which open into horizontal pipe walls that are attached at some distance from the floor and ceiling. Boiler Έ acts as an evaporator. and boiler C as a condenser. The water to be evaporated is introduced into the ring-shaped evaporator through the pipe J , which can be closed by means of a tap, in such a quantity that the water fills the pipes e 1, covers the upper pipe wall and closes the mouth of the pipe J. The boiler steam is fed into the space between the two pipe walls through pipe A and the discharge through pipe D.
Zur Abführung des Condensationswassers aus diesem dient Rohr Q.The steam developed from the sea water flows through the pipe connection B into the upper part of the condenser C and is under the action of an air pump, the suction pipe F of which opens into the top of the bottom of the: boiler C,; pulled through the tubes e. The evaporation of the seawater takes place under reduced pressure. In order to accelerate the condensation of the steam, cooling water is introduced into the boiler through tube L , which washes around tubes e and, in a heated state, is discharged through tube L 1 at the top. Tube J branches off from tube L 1 , so that when the apparatus is in the boiler, the seawater reaches the evaporator already warmed up. Pipe Q is used to discharge the condensation water therefrom.
The air pump conveys the condensed water into the filter and air supply apparatus shown in FIG. It consists of a kettle which, in a similar way to the apparatus described , is traversed by tubes N and N l , which are supported above and below in horizontal tube walls. The space between the ceiling of the apparatus and the upper wall of the pipe is divided into two parts O and O 1 by a transverse wall. In the part O opens the pipe M , which introduces the water coming from the air pump. A tube m is inserted conaxially into this tube, which communicates with the outside air and introduces air into space O under the sucking effect of the water jet flowing around it. The JViV 1 tubes are filled with charcoal or other suitable filter material. For better distribution of the water over the tubes , a sieve-like perforated bottom η is used, which is attached over the tube wall at a small distance. The flowing in through the line M and through the tube m with
In die Aufsenwand des Apparates; münden Rohre 5 und S1 ein, welche zur Ein-j und Abführung von Kühlwasser dienen, das; die Filterröhren NN1 umspült. iAir mixed water flows through the filter; tubes Λ Γ , then collects in the lower; Space of the apparatus and rises through the filter tubes ZV 1 back up to -through; flow down the line T to a collecting container from-i. In the outer wall of the apparatus ; open pipes 5 and S 1 , which serve for the inlet and discharge of cooling water, the; the filter tubes NN 1 was washed around. i
|In the modification of Fig. 2, the from; The steam developed by the seawater is introduced through the pipe B into the space of the condenser C surrounding the pipes e . The 'cooling water is here introduced through the line L into' the lower part of the condenser; and flows from here through the tubes e up to be discharged through the line L 1. The suction line F of the air pump is carried out through the ring-shaped evaporator E until it enters the space between! the two tube walls of the condenser C opens. |
In order to be able to use the apparatus shown in FIG. 2 in its entirety only as a condenser, the line L is connected to the bottom of the annular vessel E by means of a connection P which can be closed by a valve, and the line L 1 is connected to the base of the annular vessel E by means of a connection P which can be closed by a valve 1 with the; Ceiling of the boiler E, connected. If all the valves PP 1 R are opened, the cooling water flows through both boiler C and boiler E, in order to flow out of both boilers through pipe L 1 *. It is then 'in both of the boilers, the tubes ee l surrounding space for the condensation of steam disposable.
Fig. 3 veranschaulicht diese Abänderung. The apparatus shown in Fig. 1 can be modified so that the boilers C and E exchange their functions so that the former serves as an evaporator and the latter as a condenser. 3 illustrates this modification. Pipeline J ends here in the cylindrical vessel E and fills it with seawater to such an extent that it covers the upper wall of the pipe. The pipe A, which introduces the steam serving as a heat source, is led through the ring-shaped boiler C into the evaporator E. The pipes L and L 1 for the cooling water now open into the annular Aufsenkessel C. Pipe D now opens into the space between the pipe walls instead of the space above the pipe wall.
