Die bisher bekannten Verfahren zur Darstellung reiner Milchsäure aus technischer Ware beruhen:The previously known process for the preparation of pure lactic acid from technical Goods are based on:

Um aus diesem Produkt reine Milchsäure zu erhalten, verfährt man folgendermaßen:To obtain pure lactic acid from this product, proceed as follows:

100 kg Milchsäure, technisch 5oprozentig, werden zunächst durch wiederholtes Aufkochen mit Knochenkohle entfärbt. Da die färbenden Substanzen der technischen Milchsäure sich verhältnismäßig schwer auf der Knochenkohle niederschlagen, so muß man dafür Sorge tragen, daß die Flüssigkeit dauernd mit der entfärbenden Substanz in möglichst innige Berührung kommt. Man erreicht dies beispielsweise, wenn man die Milchsäure nach Hinzufügen von Knochenkohle unter Hindurchleiten eines indifferenten Gasstromes etwa 8 Stunden am Rückfluß kühler erwärmt. Das Filtrat der Knochenkohle ist nach zweimaligem Auskochen fast gänzlich farblos. Es 'wird nunmehr auf 90 bis 95 Prozent Gehalt an Milchsäure konzentriert, und zwar geschieht das Abdestillieren des Wassers am zweckmäßigsten im Vakuum. Man destilliert, bis das Thermometer etwa 80° zeigt, und erhält auf diese Weise die Milchsäure als nur ganz schwach gefärbtes, ziemlich konsistentes Produkt. Es wird nunmehr mit der etwa iV₂fachen Gewichtsmenge möglichst wasserfreien Alkohols versetzt. Hierbei fällt das Dextrin als feinflockiger Niederschlag quantitativ aus. Nach 24stündigem Stehen hat sich derselbe vollständig zu Boden gesetzt und läßt sich nunmehr in üblicher Weise durch Filtration entfernen. Durch Abdestillieren des Alkohols aus dem Filtrat wird letzterer zurückgewonnen, und man gewinnt eine reine Milchsäure. Dieselbe zeigt alle in der Literatur beschriebenen physikalischen Konstanten. Patent-Anspruch:Patent claim: Verfahren zur Darstellung reiner Milchsäure, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man die technische wässerige Milchsäure zunächst in bekannter Weise durch Kochen mit entfärbenden Substanzen, beispielsweise Knochenkohle, Kieselgur, Gips usw., zweckmäßig unter Hindurchleiten eines indifferenten Gasstromes entfärbt, hierauf möglichst weit konzentriert, aus der konzentrierten Milchsäure die als Verunreinigung sich vorfindenden organischen Stoffe, vorwiegend Zuckerarten, mit einem Alkohol ausfällt und schließlich nach Abtrennen des Niederschlags den Alkohol wieder abdestilliert.
