Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine verbesserte Motoröl-Zubereitung
als Schmieröl für das Kurbelgehäuse von Verbrennungskraftmaschinen, und insbesondere betrifft sie eine Zubereitung,
welche eine verringerte Maschinenreibung sicherstellt und dadurch eine erhöhte Kilometerleistung des Brennstoffes
liefert.
Zur Einsparung von Energie werden Automobile heute so konstruiert,
daß sie im Vergleich zu den in den letzten Jahren verkauften Kraftfahrzeugen eine bessere Kilometerleistung,
bezogen auf die verbrauchte Kraftstoffmenge, liefern. Dieses
Eenühen ist von erheblicher Bedeutung, und es wurden beispielsweise
in den USA Bestimmungen erlassen, welche die Automobilhersteller zwingen, eine vorgeschriebene Kilometerleistung,
bezogen auf den Kraftstoff, zu garantieren. Diese Bestimmungen dienen dazu, Rohöl einzusparen. Bei den Versuchen,
die geforderte Kilometerleistung zu verifizieren, stellt man die neuen Fahrzeuge mit kleineren Abmessungen her,
die erheblich im Gewicht herabgesetzt sind. Jedoch sind einer derartigen Lösung Grenzen gesetzt, jenseits derer die Automobile
dem Platzbedarf, den eine typische Familie hat, nicht mehr gerecht werden.
Ein anderer Weg zur Verbesserung der Kilometerleistung, be-,
zogen auf den Kraftstoff, besteht darin, die Maschinenreibung

zu verringern. Die vorliegende Erfindung befaßt sich mit dieser letztgenannten Lösung.
Gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung wird ein Schmieröl zur Verwendung im Kurbelgehäuse einer Verbrennungskraftmaschine
zur Verfügung gestellt, welches ein Phosphonat-Additiv enthält. Dieses neue Gl weist eine verringerte Reibung auf und
gibt eine bessere Kraftstoffersparnis, verglichen mit dem
Kraftstoffbedarf ohne das Additiv. Das Additiv ist ein Dialkylalkyl-
oder Alksnylphosphonat.
Phosphonat-Additive wurden bereits früher in Schmieröl-Zubereitungen
eingesetzt. Beispielsweise beschreibt die britische Patentschrift 1 247 541 Phosphonate in Getriebeöl und
Kraftübertragungsflüssigkeiten für Autos mit automatischem Getriebe. Andere Veröffentlichungen, welche die Verwendung
von Phosphonaten als Additive betreffen, sind die US-Patentschriften 2 174 019, 2 274 291, 2 397 422, 2 436 141 und
2 957 931-
Eine bevorzugte Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung
ist eine Schmieröl-Zubereitung für das Kurbelgehäuse einer Verbrennungskraftmaschine mit einer Schmierviskosität bis
zu SAE 40, wobei die Zubereitung eine Iiauptmenge eines
Schmieröls und eine kleinere, die Reibung herabsetzende "Ten-

mit etwa 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen sind.
Beispiele dieser Phosphonate sind Dimethyltriacontylphosphonat5
Diiithyltriacontenylphosphonat, Kethyläthyleicosylphosphonat
3 uibutylhexadecylphosphonat, Dimethylhexadecenylphosphonatj
Dimethyltetracontenylphosphonat, Di-n-propylhexacontylphosphonat,
Äthylisobutyldodecylphosphonat, Dimethyldodecenylphosphonat
und dergleichen.
In einer besonders bevorzugten Ausführungsform ist rl eine
Alkyl- oder Alkenylgruppe mit einem Gehalt von etxm- 16 bis
20 Kohlenstoffatomen. Beispiele dieser besonders bevorzugten Phosphonate sind Dimethylhexadecylphosphonat, Diäthylhexadeeenylphosphonatj
Dimethyloctadecylphosphonatj Dimethyloctadecenylphosphonat,
Methyläthyleicosylphosphonat und dergleichen.
Das besonders bevorzugte Additiv ist Dimethyloctadecylphosplionat.

Die Phosphonate werden zu dem Schmieröl in einer Menge zugesetzt
, welche die Reibung beim Betrieb der Maschine mit dem Öl in dem Kurbelgehäuse verringert. Eine brauchbare Konzentration
ist etwa O305 bis 3 Gewichtsprozent. Ein besonders
bevorzugter Bereich beträgt etwa 0,3 bis 1,5 Gewichtsprozent.
Aus dem Vorstehenden ist zu ersehen, daß die vorliegende
Erfindung ein verbessertes Schmieröl für das Kurbelgehäuse schafft. Demzufolge ist eine Ausführungsform des Gegenstands
der vorliegenden Erfindung eine verbesserte Motoröl-Zubereitung, die für die Verwendung als Kurbelgehäuse-Schmiermittel
in einer Verbrennungskraftmaschine formuliert ist, wobei die damit erzielte Verbesserung den Zusatz einer zur Verringerung
des Kraftstoffverbrauches der Maschine ausreichenden Menge eines Dialkylalkjrlphosphonats einschließt, in welchem
die mit den Sauerstoffatomen verbundenen Alkylreste 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatome aufweisen, und die mit dem Phosphoratora
verbundene Alkylgruppe 12 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatome besitzt,
was gelegentlich in dieser Beschreibung als Di-C., j,-alkyl-C1p__„-alkylphosphonat
bezeichnet wird.
In einer besonders bevorzugten Ausführungsform eines derartigen
verbesserten Motoröls ist auch ein asehefreies Dispergiermittel, ein Zinkdialkyldithiophosphat und ein Erdalkalimetallsalz
einer Erdölsulfonsäure oder einer Alkarylsulfon-

säure (z.B. Alkylbenzolsulfonsäure) enthalten.
Die Additive können in Mineralöl oder in synthetischen ölen einer Viskosität eingesetzt werden, die für die Verwendung
in dem Kurbelgehäuse einer Verbrennungskraftmaschine geeignet ist. Kurbelgehäuse-Schmieröle haben eine Viskosität von
bis zu etwa 80 SUS bei 210° P (98,89° C). Gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung wirken Di-C1-2,-alkyl-C^^Q-alkylphosphonate
im Sinne einer erhöhten Kraftstoffersparnis, wenn sie
zu Schmieröl-Zubereitungen zugesetzt werden, die für eine Verwendung im Kurbelgehäuse von Verbrennungskraftmaschinen
formuliert worden sind. Ähnliche Vorteile bezüglich der Kilo meterzahl könnten sowohl in Maschinen mit Funkenzündung als
auch in Dieselmaschinen erreicht werden.
Die Schmieröle für das Kurbelgehäuse der vorliegenden Erfindung haben eine Viskosität von bis zu etwa SAE 40. Manchmal
erhalten derartige Motoröle eine Klassifikation sowohl bei 0° und 210° P (-17,78° und 98,89° C), \i±e beispielsweise
SAE 10V.T 40 oder SAE 5W 30.
Bevorzugte Schmiermittel für das Kurbelgehäuse gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung können weiterhin identifiziert werden,
da sie gewöhnlich ein Zinkdihydrocarbyldithiophosphat . zusätzlich zu dem Phosphonat-Additiv enthalten. Diese Kur-

Synthetische öle schließen sowohl synthetisches Kohlenwasserstofföl
und synthetische Ester ein. Brauchbare synthetische Kohlenwasserstofföle umfassen flüssige Polymere von
a-Olefinen mit der geeigneten Viskosität. Insbesondere sind
die hydrierten flüssigen Oligomeren von a-01efinen mit 6
bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen brauchbar, wie beispielsweise a-Decen-Trimeres. Desgleichen können Alkylbenzole mit passender Viskosität verwendet werden, wie beispielsweise Didodecylbenzol.

ausgezeichnetes Schmiermittel. Desgleichen liefern Mischungen von etwa 10 bis 25 Gewichtsprozent Di(2-äthylhexyl)-adipat
mit Mineralöl von geeigneter Viskosität ein überlegenes Schmieröl. Auch Mischungen von synthetischem Kohlenwasserstofföl
mit synthetischen Estern können eingesetzt werden. Mischungen von Mineralöl mit synthetischem öl sind
besonders zur Herstellung von öl mit niedriger Viskosität (z.B. SAE 5W 20) brauchbar, da sie diese niederen Viskositäten
ermöglichenj ohne zu einer übermäßigen Flüchtigkeit beizutragen.
Die bevorzugtere Schmieröl-Zubereitung enthält Zinkdihydrocarbyldithiophosphat
in Kombination mit dem DialkylalkyΙο der -alkenylphosphonat. Wenn diese Additive zusammen eingesetzt
werden, erzielt man damit sehr signifikante Verbesserungen hinsichtlich der Kraftstoffersparnis. Es können
sowohl Zinkdialkyldithiophosphate und Zinkdialkaryldithiophosphate, als auch gemischte Alkylaryldithiophosphate verwendet
werden. Beispiele davon sind Zinkdihydrocarbyldithiophosphat, in welchem die Hydrocarbylgruppen eine Mischung
von Isobutyl- und Isoamylalkylgruppen sind. Desgleichen kann Zinkdinonylphenyldithiophosphat mit guten Ergebnissen
verwendet werden. Gute Ergebnisse werden erreicht, wenn man

eine ausreichende Menge Zinkdihydrocarbyldithiophosphat einsetzt, um einen Gehalt von etwa 0,01 bis 0,5 Geviiehtsprozent
Zink sicherzustellen. Eine bevorzugte Konzentration enthält etwa 0,05 bis 0,3 Gewichtsprozent Zink.
Ein anderesj in den ülzubereitungen eingesetztes Additiv
sind die Erdalkalimetallerdölsulfonate oder Erdalkalimetallalkarylsulfonate. Beispiele dieser Verbindungen sind CaI-ciumerdölsulfonate,
Magnesiumerdölsulfonate, Bariumalkarylsulfonate,
Calciumalkarylsulfonate oder Magnesiumalkarylsulfonate.
Sowohl die neutralen als auch die überbasischen Sulfonate mit Zahlenwerten bis zu etwa 400 können vorteilhafterweise
eingesetzt werden. Diese werden in einer Menge verwendet, um etwa 0,05 bis 135 Gewichtsprozent Erdalkalimetall,
und besonders bevorzugt etwa 0,1 bis 1,0 Gewichtsprozent Erdalkalimetall sicherzustellen. In der hauptsächlich
bevorzugten Ausführungsform enthält das Schmieröl ein Calciumerdölsulfonat oder -alkarylsulfonat. Derartige, in
Kombination mit den hier beschriebenen Phosphonaten verwendeten Calciumsulfonate liefern eine bessere Kraftstoffersparnis,
als sie mit den ähnlichen Magnesiumsulfonaten erhal ten wird.
Es können Viskositätsindexverbesserer mit verwendet werden, wie beispielsweise der Polyalkylmethacrylat-Typ oder der

Xthylen-Propylen-Copolyrner-Typ. Desgleichen kann man Styrol-Dien-Viskositätsindexverbesserer
verwenden. Erdalkalimetallsalze von phosphosulfurisiertem Polyisobutylen sind brauchbar. Bevorzugte Kurbelgehäuse-Öle enthalten auch ein
aschefreies Dispergiermittel, wie beispielsweise die PoIyolefinsuccinamide
und Succinimide von Polyäthylenpolyaminen, wie beispielsweise Tetraäthylenpentamin. Der Polyolefin-Bernsteinsäuresubstituent
ist vorzugsweise eine PoIyisobutengruppe mit einem Molekulargewicht im Bereich von
etwa 800 bis 5 000. Derartige aschefreie Dispergiermittel werden ausführlich in den US-Patentschriften 3 172 892 und
3 219 666 beschrieben.
Eine andere brauchbare Klasse von aschefreien Dispergiermitteln sind die polyolefinsubstituierten Bernsteinsäureester
von Mono- und Polyhydroxyalkoholen mit 1 bis etwa Kohlenstoffatomen. Derartige Dispergiermittel sind in den
US-Patentschriften 3 381 022 und 3 522 179 beschrieben.
Desgleichen stellen gemischte Ester/Amide von polyolefinsubstituierter
Bernsteinsäure, hergestellt unter Verwendung von Alkanolen, Aminen und/oder Aminoalkanolen, eine brauchbare
Klasse von aschefreien Dispergiermitteln dar.

-imid- und/oder -ester-Typ können durch Reaktion mit einer
Borverbindung, wie beispielsweise Borsäure, boriert werden. Desgleichen können Bernsteinsäureamid-, -imid und/oder
-ester durch Reaktion mit einem Alkylenoxid, wie beispielsweise Ethylenoxid oder Propylenoxid, oxyalkyliert werden.
Andere brauchbare aschefreie Dispergiermittel schließen die !•iannich-Kondensationsprodukte von polyolefinsubstituierten
Phenolen, Formaldehyd und Polyäthylenpolyamin ein. Bevorzugten-;
ei se ist das Polyolefinphenol ein polyisobutylensubstituiertes Phenol, in welchem die Polyisobutylengruppe ein
Molekulargewicht im Bereich von etwa '800 bis 5 000 besitzt. Das bevorzugte Polyäthylenpolyamin ist Tetraäthylenpentamin.
Derartige aschefreie Mannich-Dispergiermittel sind ausführlicher in den US-Patentschriften

beschrieben.
Die vorstehenden Mannich-Dispergiermittel können mit Borsäu re unter Bildung von borierten Dispergiermitteln mit verbesserten
rorrosioriseiirenschaften umgesetzt v/erden.

Es wurden Versuche durchgeführt, welche die Fähigkeit der
vorliegenden ülzubereitung, in signifikanter Weise die
Kraftstoffersparnis zu verbessern, unter Beweis stellen.
Zunächst wurden "eibun^sversuche durchgeführt. Diese Versuche
wurden unter Verwendung einer Werkbank durchgeführt,
in welcher ein Stahlring und eine Stahlplatte unter einer Belastung von 16,1 Kg/cm aufeinandergepreßt wurden. Der
Stahlring wurde mit einer linearen Geschwindigkeit von 12 j 2 m/min rotiert und das zum Start erforderliche Drehmoment
(statische Reibung) und das zur Aufrechterhaltung einer Rotation (kinetische Reibung) erforderliche Drehmoment
gemessen. Die reibende Grenzfläche des Stahlrings und der Stahlplatte wurden mit dem zu untersuchenden öl geschmiert
.
Das in diesem Versuch eingesetzte Basis-Motorol wurde als
neutrales Mineralöl formuliert. Die Basisformulierung enthielt ein kommerzielles aschefreies Dispergiermittel (d.h.
Polyisobutylsuccinimid von Polyäthylenpolyamin), ein Zinkdialkyldithiophosphat,
ein überbasisches Calciumalkylbenzolsulfonat (mit einer Basenzahl von 300), ein phenolisches
Antioxidationsraittel und einen kommerziellen Polyacrylat-Viskositätsindex-(UZ)-verbesserer.
Es wurde sowohl der statische als auch der kinetische Reibungskoeffizient für das
Baaisöl, und das Dasisöl mit einem Gehalt an verschiedenen

Konzentrationen von Dimethyloctadecylphosphonat gemessen. Die Ergebnisse sind in der nachfolgenden Tabelle I niedergelegt

Ähnliche, jedoch geringfügig niedrigere Herabsetzungen der
Reibung wurden unter Verwendung eines verschiedenartigen Basisöls, das ein verschiedenartiges phenolisches Antioxidationsmittel
enthielt, erhalten.

wurden weitere Untersuchungen in einem Automobil der US-Produktion aus dem Jahre 1977, das eine V6-Maschine hatte,

durchgeführt. Der I'Jasen wurde auf einem Rollenprüfstand
unter geregelten Temperatur- und Feuchtigkeitsbedingungen betrieben. Jede Versuchsfolge bestand aus vier aufeinanderfolgenden
EPA-Stadt/Autobahn-Zyklen plus einem 50 mph
(8O15 km/h) Zyklus im stationären Zustand. Der erste Zyklus
wurde mit einer kalten Maschine [32° P (0° C)] begonnen. Die anschließenden drei Zyklen wurden mit einer vorgexfärmten
Maschine begonnen. Der Gasolinverbrauch wurde während des Versuches in häufigen Intervallen gewiehtsmäßig und
ebenso auch volumetrisch in mpg (km/1) bestimmt.
Das in dem Automobil-Test eingesetzte Basisöl war das gleiche Basisöl, wie es in dem Werkzeugbank-Versuch eingesetzt
worden war, mit der Ausnahme, daß es durch Arbeiten während des Äquivalents von 1 000 Meilen (1609,3^4 km^ in
einer Dynamometer-Maschine vorgeschert worden war, um die Wirkung der ölverdünnung während des tatsächlichen Tests
zu eliminieren. Viskositätsindexverbesserer neigen während ihrer anfänglichen Verwendung zu einer Scherung, wodurch
eine Abnahme der ölviskosität betvirkt wird. Ein infolge
einer derartigen Verdünnung verbesserter Kraftstoffverbrauch kann die Wirkung des zu untersuchenden Additivs maskieren.
Die während eines jeden Zyklus der Versuchsfo3ge erhaltenen
mpg (km/1)-Daten wurden dann mittels Computor-Regressions-

analyse zur Eliminierung von Unstimmigkeiten infolge einer
Veränderung des barometrischen Drucks und des Maschinentrends v,7-ihrend des Versuches analysiert. Hierdurch erhielt
man den wahren mpg (km/1)-Wert mit einer -95~99#isen Zuverlässigkeit.
Die Versuchsfolge wurde unter Verwendung des Basisöls durchgeführt und erneut unter Verwendung des gleichen
Easisöls plus 1 Gextfichtsprozent Dimethyloctadecylphosphonat.
Die Ergebnisse sind in der nachfolgenden Tabelle II in Form der prozentualen Verbesserung über der Basislinie
angegeben.

Als weiterer Nachweis des vorteilhaften Effekts des Additivs wurde die Temperatur des Öls in dem Kurbelgehäuse der Maschi-

ne während des Teils der Stadt- und Autobahnzyklen Gemessen,
wo es angewärmt war. Das öl mit einem Gehalt an Dimethyloctadecylphosphonat lief kühler als das Basisöl während der
beiden Zyklen. Die folgende Tabelle III zeigt die Temperaturerniedrigung des Kurbelgehäuse-öls beim Phosphonat-Additiv-Öl
im Vergleich zum Basisol.

Die Abnahme der Öltemperatur deutet auf eine Verringerung
des wärmeproduzierenden Abriebs durch Reibung hin.
Weitere Untersuchungen wurden unter Verwendung von Diäthyloctadecylphosphonat
als Additiv durchgeführt. Es wurde gefunden, daß diese Untersuchungen mit den Kraftstoffverbrauch-Untersuchungen
in Automobilen in Wechselbeziehung stehen. In diesen Versuchen wurde eine Maschine mit entferntem Zylinderkopf
und mit dem zu untersuchenden Schmieröl im Kurbelgehäuse durch Fremdantrieb auf 1800 UpM gebracht. Das Kurbelgehäuse-Motoröl
wurde auf 65° C gehalten, um die Betriebs-

bedingungen der Γ-iaschine zu simulieren. Der Fremdantrieb
vmrde abgeschaltet und die Zeit bis zum Auslaufen gemessen. Dies viurde mehrere Male mit dem Basisöl und mit dem
Basioöl mit einem Gehalt von 1 % Diäthyloctadecylphosphonat wiederholt. Das Easisöl war ein voll formuliertes technisches Kurbelgehäuse-Schmiermittel, das ein Polyisobutylsuecinimid eines Äthylenpolyamins als aschefreies Dispergiermittel und ein überbasisches Calciumalkarylsulfonat-Deteroens enthielt. Der Zusatz von Diäthyloctadecylphosphonat
erhöhte die Auslauf-Zeit um 2,1 % im Vergleich zum gleichen öl ohne das SuIfonat. Dies deutet auf eine signifikante
Herabsetzung der Maschinenreibung hin.

Zusammenfassend, betrifft die vorliegende Erfindung ein Kurbelgehäiise-Gl
für Verbrennungskraftmaschinen vom formulierten Typ mit einem Gehalt an einem aschefreien Dispergiermittel.,
wünschenswerterweise auch mit einem Gehalt an einem
Erdalkalimetallsalz einer Erdölsulfonsäure oder einer Alkaryisulfansäure.,
das zur Herabsetzung des Brennstoffverbrauchs der Maschine einen Gehalt an einem Di-C1-I,-alkyl-CLp ,Q-alkyKöder
-alkenyl)phosphonat in einer kleineren, ausreichenden Menge aufweist.
