und Carbonsäureestern aus Gemischen mit diesen Verbindungen mit Hufe νοη Kunststöffmembranen,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man die Trennung mit Membranen aus Polyurethan mit
einer Dicke von etwa 0,5 bis 500 μ durchführt.

Es ist bereits aus der US-PS 29 53 502 bekannt, aus
einem azeotropen Gemisch von Benzol und Methanol i<
> mittels einer nicht-porösen plastischen Membran aus Polyäthylen Benzol weitgehend abzutrennen und im
Perme,at anzureichern.
Es ist ferner aus der US-PS 37 76 970 bekannt. Styrol
aus einem Gemisch von Styrol und Äthylbenzol mit ΐΐ
Hilfe einer semipermeablen Membran aus bestimmten Polyurethanelastomeren abzutrennen und im Permeat
anzureichern.
Das vorliegende Verfahren zur Abtrennung von aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen der Formel
(I)
in der ·τ>
und
η eine der Zahlen 0 bis 3 bedeuten, wobei die Reste
verschieden sein können,
von aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen, cycloaliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen, Alkoholen, Äthern und
Carbonsäureestern aus Gemischen mit diesen Verbindungen mit Hilfe von Kunststoffmembranen ist dadurch r>
gekennzeichnet, daß man die Trennung mit Membranen aus Polyurethan mit einer Dicke von 0,5 bis 500 μ
durchführt.
Als Alkyl mit 1 bis 3 Kohlenstoffatomen seien Methyl,
Äthyl, Propyl und Isopropyl genannt. to
Vorzugsweise kommen als Verbindungen der Formel (I) Benzol, Toluol, Xylol, Äthylbenzol und Cumol in
Frage.
Verbindungen, von denen die Verbindungen der Formel (I) abgetrennt werden können, sind: ηϊ
aliphatischc. gradkettige oder verzweigte Kohlenwasserstoffe mit bis zu 14 Kohlenstoffatomen wie
η-Hexan, n-Heptan, 2-Methyl- und 5-Methylhexan,
2^-Dimethylpentan, 2,4-Dimethylpentan, 2^2,3-Trimethylbutan, i-Octan; cycloaliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, insbesondere mit 5 und 6 Ring-Kohlenstoffatomen, die auch durch Alkyl mit bis zu
8 Kohlenstoffatomen substituiert sein können, insbesondere durch Ci- bis Ο,-Alkyl und besonders
durch Methyl und Äthyl; insbesondere seien genannt Methyicyclopentan, Cyclohexan und Methylcyclohexan;
aliphatische und cycloaliphatischeAlkohole.dieden
vorgenannten Kohlenwasserstoffen entsprechen, insbesondere niedere aliphatische Alkohole wie
Methanol, Äthanol, Propanol, Isopropanol, Butanol, Isobuianol, terL-Butanol und Äthylenglykol;
aliphatische und cycloaliphatische Äther, die sich von den vorgenannten Kohlenwasserstoff-^ ableiten, insbesondere Tetrahydrofuran und Dioxan;
Ester niederer aliphatischer Carbonsäuren mit niederen aliphatischen Alkoholen wie Essigester.
Besonders vorteilhaft läßt sich das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren zur Abtrennung der Verbindungen der Formel (I) von aliphatischen und alicyclisuhen geradkettigen oder verzweigten Kohlenwasserstoffen mit 5 bis 8
Kohlenstoffatomen verwenden; derartige Gemische fallen vor allem bei der Verarbeitung von Erdöl an.
Naturgemäß läßt sich das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren besonders vorteilhaft einsetzen zur Auftrennung
azeotroper Gemische von Verbindungen der Formel (I) mit einer oder mehreren der anderen genannten Verbindungen oder zur Auftrennung von Gemischen von
Verbindungen der Formel (I) mit solchen anderen Verbindungen, die sich nach anderen Verfahren, z. B. wegen
nahe beieinander Kege^der Siedepunkte durch Destillation, nicht-oder ψιτ urjter erheblichen Schwierigkeiten
auftrennen lassen. :*■*·*· ... *
Die Durchführung- dts- erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens kann entsprechend dem "bekannten Stand der
Technik auf dem Gebiet der Trennung unter Verwendung von Membranen erfolgen.
Erfindungsgemäß sind die verwendeten Membranen aus Polyurethanen hergestellt; Polyurethane, die dafür
Verwendung finden können und ihre Herstellung sind an sich bekannt.
Polyurethane werden im allgemeinen durch Umsetzung von höhermolekularen Di- oder Polyhydroxyverbindungen (z. B. Polyestern oder Polyethern mit
einem Molekulargewicht von etwa 500 bis 5000 und Schmelzpunkten vorzugsweise unter 60'C) und aliphatischen, araliphatischen oder aromatischen Di- oder
Polyisocyanaten sowie gegebenenfalls sogenannten Kettenverlängerungsmitteln, d. h. niedermolekularen
Verbindungen (Molekulargewicht z. B. 18 bis 400) mit 2 oder, mehreren, gegenüber Isocyanat reaktiven Gruppen (z. B. niedermolekulare Diole, Diamine, Aminoalkohole) oder entsprechenden Gemischen dieser Kettenverlängerungsmittel in ein- oder mehrstufigen Verfahren in Schmelze oder in Lösungsmitteln nach einer
Vielzahl von bekannten und abwandelbaren Verfahren hergestellt.
Als Ausgangsmaterialicr seien beispielsweise genannt: Polyester der Kohlensäure und aliphatischer Dicarbonsäuren mit 2 bis etwa to C-Atomen, bevorzugt
der Adipin- und Sebazin-Säure, mit aliphatischen Dialkoholen mit 2 bis etwa 10 C-Atomen, vorzugsweise
solchen mit mehr als 5 C-Alomen, wobei die Dialkohole
auch zur Erniedrigung der Schmelzpunkte der Poly-
ester im Gemisch eingesetzt werden können; Polyester
aus niedermolekularen aliphatischen Lactonen und «-Hydroxycarbonsäuren, bevorzugt aus Caprolacton
bzw.w-Hydroxycaprinsäure; ferner Polyalkylenätberdiole, speziell Polytetramethylene therdiole, Polytrimetby-
lenätherdiole, Polypropylenglykol oder entsprechende Copolyäther.
Als Diisocyanate werden bevorzugt aromatische Diisocyanate wie Toluylendiisocyanat, m-Xylylendüsocyanat, araliphatische Diisocyanate wie Diphenyl-
meihan-4,4'-diisocyanat oder auch aliphatische und cycloaliphatische Diisocyanate wie Hexamelhylendiisocyanat und Dicyclohexylmethan^'-diisocyanat verwendeL
Diese Ausgangsmaterialien können gegebenenfalls mit zusätzlich eingesetzten Dialkoholen auch zu sogenannten Präpolymeren umgesetzt und anschließend mit
weiteren Di- oder Polyhydroxylverbindungen und Dioder Polyisocyanaten und gegebenenfalls weiteren
Kettcnverlängerungsmittcln erneut polymerisiert wer- 2»
den.
Neben den bei Verwendung von Diolen und Diisocyanaten erhältlichen zweidimensional vernetzten
Polyurethanen können auch dreidimensional vernetzte Polyurethane erhalten werden, wenn bei der Polymerisation gleichzeitig Tris- und Polyole und/oder Tris- und
Potycyanate als Ausgangsmaterialien eingesetzt werden.
Eine dreidimensionale Vernetzung läßt sich jedoch auch erreichen, wenn man noch freie Hydroxyl- to
und/oder Isocyanat-Oruppen enthaltende zweidimensional vernetzte Polyurethane anschließend mit trifunktionellen Alkoholen und/oder Isocyanaten weiter umsetzt.
Gleichfalls lassen sich solche dreidimensional ver- y>
netzten Polyurethane durch anschließende Umsetzung von zweidimensional vernetzten Polyurethanen mit
freien Isocyanat-Endgruppen mit geringen Mengen von Polymeren mit reaktionsfähigen Wasserstoffatomen
enthaltenden Endgruppen wie Formaldehyd- oder -to Melamin-Harzen erhalten.
Beim Verfahren der Erfindung werden bevorzugt filmbildende elastische Polyurethane verwendet, die als
sogenannte »Einkomponenten-PUR« mit einer Kennzahl (Äquivalente) v,
NCO , NCO

größer als 1,0, etwa im Bereich 1,02 bis 1,1, hergestellt werden. %
Dabei werden als Diole insbesondere Butandiol-1,4-Adipinsäurcpolyester, Hexamethylenglykol-1,6-Adipinsäurepolyesler und Hexandiol-1,6-Polycarbonat eingesetzt, dessen Herstellung z. B. aus der DE-AS 9 15 908
bekannt ist.
Als Diisocyanate kommen bevorzugt Isophoron-diisocyanat, 4,4'-Diisocyanato-diphenylmethan und Toluylen-düsocyanat in Frage. Als Kettenverlängerungsmittel werden bevorzugt Äthylenglykol, Butandiol-1,4,
Äthanolamin und Diamino-dicyclohexyl-methan ver- <,o
wendet.
Zu dieser Gruppe gehören auch Polyurethane, die aus einem Prepolymeren mit freien Hydroxylgruppen,
einem Diol und Diisocyanat mit einer Kennzahl

hergestellt sind.
Eine weitere bevorzugte Gruppe derartiger filmbildender Polyurethane sind sogenannte »Zweikomponenten-PUR« einem der vorgenannten Polyurethane,
die durch anschließende weitere Polymerisation mit einem Polyoi wie Trimethylolpropan und gegebenenfalls einem Kettenverlängerer wie 1,3-ButylengIykoI
und einem Diisocyanat vernetzt worden sind. Zu dieser Gruppe der »Zweikomponenten-PUR« gehören auch
solche Polyurethane, die anschließend mit Formaldehyd- oder Melaminharzen weiter vernetzt wurden.
Diese bevorzugt verwendeten !Umbildenden Polyurethane sind bekannt und handelsüblich. Sie werden z. B.
für die Textilbeschichtung verwendet; ihre Herstellung wird z. B. in den DE-PS 8 31 772, DE-AS 16 94 080, DE-OS 22 21 798 und DE-OS 23 02 564 beschrieben.
Selbstverständlich können für die Herstellung der Membranen, wie sie in dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendet werden, auch andere Polyurethane
eingesetzt werden; lediglich solche Polyurethane sind nicht geeignet, die in den nach dem erfindungsgemäßen
Verfahren zu trennenden Gemischen löslich sind, so daß die Membran sich auflöst.
Die Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens kann entsprechend dem bekannten Stand der
Trennung mit Hilfe von Membranen erfolgen (vgl. Membranes in Separation, New York, 1975, ISBN
0-471-93 268 X). Insbesondere wird die als »Pervaporation« (Seiten 99 bis 116) bekannte Technik verwendet, bei
dernicht-poröse,semipermeableMembranen(Seiten434 bis 450) verwendet werden. Insbesondere ist die Verwendung solcher Membranen, die aus Polymeren hergestellt sind, bereits für die Wassercntsalzung durch
umgekehrte Osmose in großem Maßstab in Gebrauch und ihre Herstellung und technische Verwendung gut
bekannt (Seiten 434 bis 450, 468 bis 484).
Die Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen Membranen kann in bekannter Weise aus Gieß- oder Spinnlösungen
durch Gießen von Filmen oder durch Verspinnen zu Schläuchen oder Hohlfasern erfolgen.
Thermoplastische Polyurethane können nach den bekannten Methoden der thermoplastischen Verarbeitungstechnik wie Extrudieren, Kalandrieren, Spritzverformen in die gewünschte Membranform gebracht
werden.
im allgemeinen ermöglichen dünnere Membranen höhere Permeationsraten.
Daher werden in dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren vorzugsweise Membranen verwendet, die so dünn als
möglich sind.
Jedoch müssen die Membranen bekanntlich ausreichende Festigkeit und Stabilität aufweisen, so daß sie
sich handhaben lassen und bei der Verwendung kein Bruch und keine undichten Stellen auftreten.
Die Dicke der beim Verfahren der Erfindung eingesetzten Membranen beträgt etwa 03 bis 500 μ,
besonders 10 bis 100 μ.
Es ist bekannt, derartige Membranen durch poröse Träger zu stutzen, damit sie der mechanischen Beanspruchung Stand halten. Hierbei können für das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren die nach dem Stand der
Technik bekannten Träger in den entsprechenden Bauformen verwendet werden.
Es ist ferner bekannt, zur Vergrößerung der Oberfläche die Membranen in Form von Folien, Röhren,
Schläuchen oder Hohlfasern zu verwenden und, um eine maximale Membran-Oberfläche bei möglichst geringem Apparatevolumen zu erreichen, spezielle
Apparate mit möglichst geringem Apparatevolumen als Trenneinheiten zu verwenden; derartige Trenneinheiten,
auch »Moduln« genannt, sind bekannter Stand der Technik.
Die Ausführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens kann ebenfalls entsprechend dem bekannten Stand der
Technik erfolgen.
Dabei wird das zu trennende Gemisch, die »Beschickung*;,
mit der Oberfläche der Membran auf einer Seite in vollständige Berührung gebracht und auf der
anderen Seite, der »Permeat-Seite«, das »Permeat«, entweder eine reine Komponente des Beschickungsgemisches oder ein an einer oder mehreren Komponenten
angereichertes Gemisch flüssig und/oder gasförmig abgezogen.
Der Stofftransport durch die Membran erfolgt in bekannter Weise unter einer treibenden Kraft, im
erfindungsgemäBen Verfahren im allgemeinen in Folge eines Druckunterschiedes. Beispielsweise kann auf der
Beschickungsseite der Druck höher und/oder auf der Permeat-Seite geringer als der Normaldruck gewählt
werden.
Dabei kann der Druckunterschied in weiten Grenzen variiert werden und ist im allgemeinen nur durch die
Festigkeit der Membran und die verwendete Trennapparatur begrenzt. Beispielsweise kann man auf der
Beschickungsseite mit Normaldruck und gegebenenfalls dem hydrostatischen Druck des flüssigen Gemisches
und auf der Permeat-Seite mit einem Unterdruck bis zu 0,01 bar arbeiten, wobei das Permeat im allgemeinen
dampfförmig abgezogen und anschließend kondensiert wird; diese Arbeitsweise ist als »Pervaporation«
bekannt.
Man kann aber auch unter solchen Druckbedingungen arbeiten, daß das Permeat als Flüssigkeit erhalten
wird. Ebenso ist es möglich, das zu trennende Gemisch nicht als Flüssigkeit, sondern als Dampf mit der
Beschickungsseite der Membran in Berührung zu bringen.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren läßt sich in einem weiten Temperaturbereich durchführen, im allgemeinen
wird im Bereich von 0 bis 100, bevorzugt 20 bis 60° C
gearbeitet.
Selbstverständlich läßt sich das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren entsprechend dem Stand der Technik sowohl
diskontinuierlich als auch kontinuierlich und ebenso einstufig oder mehrstufig, z. B. in Form einer Trenn-Kaskade
mit einer beliebigen Anzahl von Trennstufen durchführen.
Der technische Fortschritt des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens ist darin begründet, daß es erstmals die
Abtrennung aromatischer Kohlenwasserstoffe aus einem Gemisch mit aliphatischen K nlenwasserstoffen
mit Hilfe von Membranen gestattet.
Die nachstehenden Beispiele belegen Durchführbarkeit und technischen Fortschritt des erfindungsgemäßen
Verfahrens, wobei Versuchsanordnungen entsprechend dem Stand der Technik verwendet wurden.
A. Herstellung der Polyurethanmembrane
1. Das verwendete Polyurethan wurde aus

a) Eine 30%ige Lösung (Gewicht/Volumen) des
Polyurethans in einem Gemisch von Toluol, Isopropylacetat und Äthylglykolacetat (1:1:1) wurde durch eine
Drucknutsche filtriert und so lange stehen gelassen, bis sie blasenfrei war.
Mit einem Filmschlitten mit einstellbarer Spaltbreite wurden Filme unterschiedlicher Dicke auf Glasplatten
gezogen; nach dem Abdampfen des Lösungsmittels wurde die Folie von der Glasplatte abgelöst und ihre
durchschnittliche Stärke durch Mittelung über die an verschiedenen Stellen in üblicher Weise gemessenen
Werte festgestellt.
b) In gleicher Weise wie unter a) beschrieben wurde ein Film von etwa 250 μ Dicke auf eine Glasplatte
gestrichen und das Lösungsmittel eine Stunde bei Raumtemperatur abdunsten gelassen. Anschließend
wurde die Glasplatte mit dem aufgestrichenen Film 2 Stunden in ein Methanol-Bad gelegt.
Nach dieser Zeit hatte sich der Film von der Platte abgelöst Nach dem Abdunsto; des Methanols und
Trocknen des Films wurde er wie vorstehend unter a) beschrieben gemessen und seine Dicke festgestellt.
II. Das verwendete Polyurethan wurde aus
71,4 Gew.-Teilen eines Butandiol-l,4-adipinsäure-
polyesters (mittleres Molekulargewicht etwa 2250);
22.5 Gew.-Teilen 4,4'-Diisocyanato-diphenyl-
methan;
5,4 Gew.-Teilen Butandiol-1,4;
0,7 Gew.-Teilen Tetrapropyl- bzw. -isopropyldi-
0,7 Gew.-Teilen Tetrapropyl- bzw. -isopropyldi-
phenylcarbodiimid;
0,2 Gew.-Teilen Äthylen-bis-stearinsäureamid
0,2 Gew.-Teilen Äthylen-bis-stearinsäureamid
hergestellt.
J5 30Gew.-Teile dieses Polyurethans wurden in
70 Volumen-Teilen eines Gemisches von Dimethylformamid und Methylethylketon (3 :2) gelöst.
Aus dieser Lösung wurden wie in Beispiel la) beschrieben Filme verschiedener Dicke hergestellt.
III. Das verwendete Polyurethan wurde aus
1 Moleines Präpolymeren aus
2 Mol Butandiol-M-adipinsäure-polyester
2 Mol Butandiol-M-adipinsäure-polyester
(Molekulargewicht etwa 900) und
1 Mol Toluylendiisocyanat (durchschnittliches
Molekulargewicht etwa 2000);
1 Mol Toluylendiisocyanat (durchschnittliches
Molekulargewicht etwa 2000);
3 Mol Äthylenglykol und
4 Mol Diphenylmethan-4,4'-diisocyanat
hergestellt.
30Gew.-Teile dieses Polyurethans wurden in
75 Volumen-Teilen eines Gemisches aus gleichen Teilen Dimethylformamid und Methylethylketon gelöst und
aus dieser Lösung wie unter Beispiel 1a) Filme verschiedener
Dicke hergestellt.
IV. Das verwendete Polyurethan wt'rde aus
043 Mol Hexandiol-polycarbonat (mittleres Molekulargewicht
etwa 2000);
0,47MuI Butandiol-l,4-adipinsäure-polyester (Mol
etwa 2250);
3 Mol Butandiol-1,4;
4 Mol 4.4'-Diisocyanato-diphenylme:han
hergestellt.
30Gew.-Teile dieses Polyurethans wurden in 70 Volumen-Te'fen eines Gemisches von Dimethylformamid
und Methylethylketon (3 :2) gelöst und aus dieser Lösung wie in Beispiel 1 a) beschrieben Filme verschiedener
Dicke hergestellt.
V. Das verwendete Polyurethan wurde aus
1,00 Mol Butandiol-1,4-adipinsäure-polycster
(mittleres Molekulargewicht etwa 2250):
4,56 Mol Äthyienglykoi;
0.24 Mol Butandiol-1,4; '
5,80 Mol 4,4'-Diisocyanato-diphenylmelhan
hergestellt.
30Gew.-Teile dieses Polyurethans wurden in 70 Volumen-Teilen eines Gemisches von Dimethyl- ι«
formamid und Methylethylketon (3 :2) gelöst und aus dieser Lösung, wie unter la) beschrieben, Mime
verschiedener Dicke hergestellt.
VI. Das verwendete Polyurethan wurde aus
1,0 Mol Butandiol-1,4-adipinsäure-polyester
(mittleres Molekulargewicht etwa 2250);
2,5 Mol Äthyienglykoi;

VII. 100 g der gemäß Il hergestellten Polyurethan-Lösung wurden mit einem Gramm einer

a) Aus dieser Lösung wurden mit einem Filmschiit- -r>
ten mit einstellbarer Spaltbreite Filme unterschiedlicher Dicke auf Glasplatten gezogen und 1 Stunde bei 140°C
getrocknet. Anschließend wurde die Folie von der Glasplatte abgelöst und ihre durchschnittliche Stärke
durch Mittelung über die an verschiedenen Stellen in ,<>
üblicher Weise gemessenen Werte festgestellt.
VIII. Wie unter VII beschrieben wurden 100 g der nach III hergestellten Polyurethan-Lösung mit jeweils
einem Gramm der unter VII beschriebenen Zusätze versetzt und aus dieser Lösung, wie unter Vila)
beschrieben. Filme verschiedener Dicke hergestellt.
IX. 100 g der nach I hergestellten Polyurethan-Lösung
wurden mit einem Gramm einer 50%igen Lösung eines Melamin-Formaldehyd-Harzes in Isobutanol
und 0,1 g einer Lösung von t>o
20 g N-Methyl-morpholin-toluolsulfonat in
64 g Wasser und
16 g Isopropanol
64 g Wasser und
16 g Isopropanol
versetzt und aus dieser Lösung, entsprechend Vila). b5
Filme hergestellt.
X. Das verwendete Polyurethan war wie folgt erhalten worden. Ein Polyester aus 7,2 MoI Hexamethylenglykol-1,6
und 5,35 Mol Adipinsäure wurde mit einem Mol Toluylendiisocyanal zu einem Präpolymer
umgesetzt.
82,4 Gew.-Teile dieses Präpolymeren wurden anschließend
mit 17,6 Gew.-Teilen Toluylendiisocyanat zum Polyurethan umgesetzt.
Eine 30-Gew.-%-Lösurig dieses Polyurethans in Äthylacetat wurde mit je 5Gew.-°/o, bezogen auf

In den nachstehenden Beispielen wurden zur Ermittlung der Permeationsdaten der. wie unter I bis X
beschrieben, hergestellten Membranen eine zusammenschraubbare Meßapparatur eingesetzt, deren obere
Hälfte aus einer zylinderförmigen Kammer mit einem Füllvoliimen von 300 ml bestand, in die das zu
trennentle Gemisch, die Beschickung, eingefüllt wurde.
Das Unterteil der Apparatur war eine etwa halbkugelförmige Abdeckung von geringem Volumen mit einem
Auslaßstutzen.
Die zu prüfende Membran war durch eine

Abdichtung der Apparatur erfolgte durch Teflon-Dichtungsringe zwischen Oberteil und Membran sowie
Sinterplatte und Unterteil der verschraubbaren Apparatur.
Die Beschickungsseite der Membran stand unter dem hydrostatischen Druck der Beschickungsflüssigkeit bei
Atmosphärendruck, auf der Permeatseite der Membran wurde das Permeat laufend abgesaugt. Dazu war dp'
Auslaßstutzen der Apparatur durch eine Leitung über 3 hintereinander geschaltete Kühlfallen, die mit einer
Trockeneis-Aceton-Mischung gekühlt wurden, mit einer Vakuumpumpe verbunden.
In den Kühlfallen wurde das Permeat praktisch völlig kondensiert. Der Druck auf der Permeat-Seite wurde
zwischen den Kühlfallen und der Vakuumpumpe gemessen und betrug nur wenige Torr; seine in den
einzelnen Beispielen wechselnde Größe hing anscheinend im wesentlichen von der erreichten Dichtigkeit
der Apparatur ab. Die wirksame Membranfläche betrug 39,6 cm-'.
Die einzelnen Versuche wurden über verschieden lange Zeiten zwischen 0,5 und 7 Stunden durchgeführt.
Um die bei längerer Versuchszeit entstehenden Konzentrationsänderungen des zu trennenden Flüssigkeitsgemisches
auszugleichen wurde das kondensierte Permeat in bestimmten Zeitabständen nach Entnahme
