Labyrinth grooves, while the fastening flange is arranged at the end of the neck.
Im Betriebe nimmt also
die Stopfbüchse eine etwas konische Form an.The invention is shown in section in the drawing. It denotes a the shaft of the turbine, b an intermediate floor, which is sealed by the stuffing box c on the shaft. e is a paddle wheel. The stuffing box c consists of the long tubular part f and the mounting flange g, which is centered on the centering strips h of the intermediate floor. The stuffing boxes are fastened using the screws i. The part of the bushing f which adjoins the flange has a bore with a considerably larger diameter than the shaft a. This part is followed by the labyrinth grooves k at the end of the sleeve f , which create the seal. The sealing grooves are thus separated from the flange g by the long neck of the stuffing box; Between the outer diameter of the sleeve f and the inner diameter of the bore of the intermediate base b there remains a sufficient margin to allow the sleeve f to expand freely outwards, while the flange g is prevented from expanding outwards by the centering strips h . As a result, in operation, the flange g will expand inwardly with the adjacent part of the sleeve f. However, since the shaft a has considerable play in this part of the stuffing box, contact between the shaft and the box f cannot take place. As a result of the great length of the extended bushing part adjoining the flange g , the end of the bushing f bearing the sealing grooves is enabled to expand outwards according to the natural tendency, so that the thermal expansion does not affect the good cooperation of the shaft with the labyrinth seal will. In operation, the stuffing box takes on a somewhat conical shape.
