The invention relates to a ribbon cable according to the preamble of the patent claim.
Various types of ribbon cables are known, for example ribbon cables with a Large number of round signal conductors, which are arranged parallel to one another and embedded in a dielectric are. There are also ribbon cables with flat ribbon-like signal conductors that are also parallel are arranged to each other and embedded in a dielectric.
From GB-PS 10 28 980 a ribbon cable of the type mentioned is known. With this ribbon cable the openings in the shield are located in several places along the cable so that the Signal conductors do not have to be stripped after cutting the cable at such points.
Gattung durch die Öffnungen in der AbschirmungFrom US-PS 34 59 879 a ribbon cable is known, which is formed to achieve good flexibility by laying two single-layer ribbon cables on top of one another, which are attached to one another at their longitudinal edges. Either one of these cables has a row of signal conductors lying parallel next to each other in an insulating jacket and the other has a shielding also embedded in insulating material, which extends over almost the entire width of the ribbon cable, or in each of these superposed cables, seen in the transverse direction, are alternating a wide ground conductor and a narrow signal conductor are arranged. In the latter case, each signal conductor in a single-layer ribbon cable is opposite a ground conductor in the other cable. The impedance of such a cable is far too low for many devices. If the cables are stacked one on top of the other in the usual way, the signal conductors are each enclosed between two wide ground conductors, so that an impedance of 20 ohms or less is obtained, which can result in high loads on the driver circuits. The impedance of this cable can be increased by choosing a thicker dielectric or by further reducing the width of the signal conductor. The first measure leads to a stiffer cable, the latter measure on the one hand increases the risk of breakage of signal conductors and on the other hand reduces the current carrying capacity of the signal tabs. A change in the wave resistance of such a flat cable is only relatively complex. To achieve production conversion.
Usually, the ends of the signal conductors of such flat ribbon cables are connected to terminals. In the case of ribbon cables of the type mentioned at the outset, such connection terminals can be installed through the openings in the shield
erleichtern. However, the openings reduce the capacity of the cable in this area. These Capacity reduction can be in the stated range compared to the capacity of the main part of the cable decrease so much that there is an intolerable impedance match between the cable and the connector having multiple terminals
Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, ein Flachbandkabel der eingangs genannten Art anzugeben, welches einerseits eine problemlose Anbringung von Anschlußklemmen ermöglicht und andererseits eine impedanzanpassung zwischen Kabel und dem an die Enden der Signalleiter anzuschließenden Verbinder vermeidetThe invention is based on the object of specifying a ribbon cable of the type mentioned above, which on the one hand allows easy attachment of terminals and on the other hand a impedance matching between the cable and the Avoids the ends of the signal conductors having to be connected to the connector
While the openings in the shield on the one hand a convenient attachment of terminals enable a connector, the bridging strips ensure an increase in capacity in this Range so that impedance mismatches between cable and connector are not to be feared. the Openings in the shield also make it possible that the terminals are not in the shield Get in touch.

A ribbon cable 10 made up of flexible conductors has a plurality of spaced apart lying parallel flat ribbon-like signal conductors 12, which are arranged in a single plane and each of which runs out into a contact tongue 11.
A ground plane or flat shield 16 made of electrically conductive material lies in a parallel to the Level of the signal conductor 12 running plane, but at a distance from the signal conductors 12. The conductors 12 are from the shield 16 by a dielectric 13 made of suitable insulating material, ζ. B. polyethylene terephthalate, separated. The dielectric 13 is transparent and is only present in the cross section of FIG. 3 to recognize. Two Covers 14 and 15 made of the same insulating material close the conductors 12, the shield 16 and the dielectric 13.
Ein Schlitz 18 ist gegenüber jedem der SignalieiterThe shield 16 is provided with elongated slots 18 which are free of electrically conductive material are. A slot 18 is opposite each of the signal conductors
By optional Changing the width of the slots 18 can reduce the capacitance between the signal conductors 12 and the Shield 16 can be changed without affecting the thickness of the dielectric t3 or the dielectric constant this material would have to be changed.
At each end of the cable 10 is the shield 16 with openings 24 extending in the transverse direction trained, you; are free of conductive material. the Openings 24 facilitate the assembly of the cable 10 to a terminal of a connector. The. openings 14 extend only partially over the cable so that a single contact connects the shield circuit with the Can connect connector. The shielding circuit leads through the terminal, if a single Contact with a lying behind the openings 24 portion 27 of the shield is connected. Of the Section 27 is connected to all shielding conductors by a connecting strip 29.
If the adjacent openings were continuous, i.e. only a single one continuous opening provided without conductive material in the area concerned, the Reduce the capacity of the cable in this area. The capacity would be compared to that in this area The capacitance of the bulk of the cable will drop so much that there is an intolerable impedance mismatch between the cable and the connector.
To counteract such a reduction in capacity and to be able to connect a connector to the signal conductor ends without hindrance, there are bridging strips 26 made of conductive material on both sides of each tongue 11. These bridging sections extending between adjacent signal conductor ends 11 separate in each case two adjacent openings 24. The bridging strips 26 cause an increase in the capacity and thereby impedance matching between the cable and the terminal connector.
Wenn ein Kontakt (Anschlußkontakt) mit jedem Abschnitt der Abschirmung 16 zwischen den Schlitzen 18 gekoppelt ist, ist zwischen jedem Paar von Signalleitern 12 ein Abschirmelement angeordnet Bei Hochfrequenzeinrichtungen wird ein solcher Aufbau bevorzugtThe width of each bridging strip 26 and the distance between adjacent strips 26 are sufficiently large so that the introduction of a terminal 28 is possible, although on the tongues or Signal conductor ends 11 and thus on the signal conductors 12, but not on the conductive material of the shield 16 acts on the connecting strip 29 can have one or more (not shown) contacts connect to the isolation circuit to the Close connector. When a contact (terminal contact) is made with each section of the shield 16 is coupled between the slots 18, there is a shield member between each pair of signal conductors 12 In the case of high-frequency devices, such a structure is preferred
The contacts or terminals 28 are the subject of German patent 21 34 319. You are particularly well suited for use with the cable 10. As can be seen from the drawing, has a contact 28 has an elongated bottom part 30 with a front end 32 and a rear end 34. The Width of the bottom is essentially the same as that of the conductor ends formed as tongues 11. Of the Longitudinal edges of the rear end 34 of the bottom part 30 extend from side walls 36, the crimping means for making electrical contact with a conductor 12 of the cable. The edges of the side walls are pushed through the insulation of each side of a conductor, and then the side walls 38 folded inward and upward until it has the ladder between its edges and the top edges by lancet-like projections 40 provided in the bottom part 31).
