"Verfahren zur Herstellung von Aryl-1 ,112,2-tetrafluoräthvläthern"
· .
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von
Aryl-1,1,2,2-tetrafluoräthyläthern durch Umsetzung von Phenolen
mit Tetrafluoräthylen in organischen Lösungsmitteln, welches dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass man eine Lösung von etwa 5 bis
etwa 5,0 Gew.% des Phenols in wassermischbaren, polaren und
gegenüber Tetrafluoräthylen unter den Reaktionsbedingungen inerten Lösungsmitteln, vorzugsweise Dimethylformamid, Hexamethyl-Phosphorsäuretrisamid
und Dimethylsulfoxid, in Gegenwart von
etwa 0,05 bis etwa 0,5 Mol Alkalihydroxid pro Mol Phenol bei • Normaldruck oder geringem Unterdruck und Temperaturen von etwa
50 bis etwa 150° C mit Tetrafluoräthylen in Kontakt bringt.
Aus der US-Patentschrift 2 409 274 ist bekannt, Phenyl-1', 1,2,2-tetrafluoräthyläther
durch Anlagerung von Tetrafluoräthylen an Phenole herzustellen. Die Reaktion wird in dem einzigen
Phenol betreffenden Beispiel bei 100° C unter Druck im Auto·»·
klaven in Gegenwart von metallischem Natrium als Katalysator und Benzol als Lösungsmittel im Verlauf von 12 Stunden durchgeführt. Dabei wird der Phenyl-1,1,2,2-tetrafluoräthyläther
mit einer Ausbeute von 4,6 % erhalten.
Eine gewisse Verbesserung gegenüber diesem Verfahren erzielten
D.C. England und Mitarbeiter (J. Am* Chem. Soc. 82, 5116-2122 (1960)) durch Verwendung von Dimethylformamid oder Dioxan als
Lösungsmittel, wobei bei niedrigerem Druck ( 2-2,7 atü ) und bei Temperaturen von 60 bis 100 C gearbeitet werden konnte»

Anstelle von metallischem Natrium setzte W,A. Sheppard
(Journal of Organic Chemistry 2£, 1-11 (1964)) bei
diesem Verfahren Natriumhydrid in Dispersionsform ein.
Die Umsetzung von Nätriumphenolat mit Tetrafluoräthylen in Dimethylformamid .unter relativ hohem Druck, wobei
das Nätriumphenolat in situ aus Phenol und Natrium gebildet wird, beschreiben W.J, Pummer und Mitarbeiter
(S.P.E. Transactions J9&2, 220 - 224).
Aus der belgischen Patentschrift 741 243 ist bekannt, dass
Phenoleunter Druck mit Tetrafluoräthylen in Gegenwart von
Alkalihydroxiden oder Alkaliphenolaten zur Reaktion gebracht werden können, wenn eine bestimmte Menge Wasser anwesend
ist und ein bestimmtes kritisches Molverhältnis von Tetrafluoräthylen zu Phenol eingehalten wird. Desgleichen
ist in den belgischen Patentschriften 691 603 und 691 604 * die Umsetzung von Nitro- bzv/. Aminophenolen mit Tetrafluoräthylen
unter Druck in Gegenwart von Alkali- oder Erdalkalihydroxiden, Natriumhydrid oder Natriummethoxid als Katalysator
und Dimethylformamid oder Dioxan als Lösungsmittel erwähnt.
Alle diese Verfahren haben den Nachteil, dass dabei unter Druck gearbeitet werden muss, was infolge des leichten,
explosiven Zerfalls von Tetrafluoräthylen kostspieliger Sicherheitsmaßnahmen bedarf.
Es war daher wünschenswert, ein Verfahren zu finden, das drucklos und mit einem leicht zu handhabenden Katalysator durchzuführen
ist und die Verwendung wasserfreier Lösungsmittel überflüssig macht. Versuche dieser Art waren bisher
vergeblich. So stellte J.W.C. Crawford (J. Chem. Soc. 1967*
2396) fest, dass Phenol in Gegenwart von Nätriumphenolatvin
situ gebildet aus Natriummetall und Phenol - und Dimethylsulfoxid bzw. Dimethylformamid bei Normaldruck
nicht mit Tetrafluoräthylen reagiert.

Umso überraschender.-war es deshalb, dass Tetrafluoräthylen
schnell und mit hohen Ausbeuten bei Normaldruck mit Phenolen zu den entsprechenden Aryl-tetrafluoräthyläthern reagiert,
wenn man anstelle von metallischem Natrium oder Natriumhydri-d
ein Alkalihydroxid als Katalysator einsetzt und wassermischbare,
polare Lösungsmittel, vorzugsweise Dimethylformamid, Hexamethyl-Phosphorsäuretrisamid oder DimethyIsulfoxid verwendet.
Diß Reaktion verläuft so leicht, dass selbst bei geringem Unterdruck
gearbeitet v/erden kann.
Als phenolische Ausgangsverbindungen kommen neben Phenol selbst auch mono-, di- und trisubstituierte Phenole in Betracht. Als
Substituenten am Phenylkem kommen dabei insbesondere in
Frage: geradkettige oder verzweigte Alkylgruppen, Oxi-, Alkoxi-,
Aldehyd-, Amino-, Alkylamino-, Dialkylamino- und Acetaminogruppen.
Ferner können auch mehrkernige Phenole, beispielsweise
die Naphthole, eingesetzt werden.
Das Lösungsmittel braucht nicht wasserfrei zu sein uni kann ohne weiteres in technischer Qualität eingesetzt werden.
Das Phenol wird darin in einer Konzentration von etwa 5 bis etwa
.50 Gew.%, vorzugsweise etwa 15 bis etwa 20 Gew.?o gelöst. Als
Katalysatoren werden Alkalihydroxide, vorzugsweise Kaliumhydroxid, in Mengen von etwa 0,05 bis etwa Cß, vorzugsweise
etwa 0,1-5 bis etwa 0,3 Mol pro Mol Phenol verwendet, die in der Phenol/DimethyIformamidlösung gelöst werden. Die Durchführung
der Reaktion kann durch Überleiten von Tetrafluoräthylen über die intensiv gerührte und auf 50 bis 150° C,
vorzugsweise 70 bis 13O0C erwärmte Reaktionsmischung erfolgen.
Schneller verläuft die Reaktion, wenn man die Phenol/DimethyIformamidlösung gemäss Abblidung 1 über eine
geheizte Füllkörperkolonne leitet und das Tetrafluoräthylen bei Normaldruck in diese Kolonne führt, das dabei absorbiert wird.

Die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit ist für die verschiedenen
Phenole unterschiedlich, In vielen Fällen setzt die Reaktion
exotherm ein; sie ist !beendet, wenn kein Tetra«
fluorathylen mehr aufgenommen wird»
Die Isolierung der Eoälrfcionsprodulste erfolgt
weise durch Destillation d®r erhaltenen
das Lösungsmittel wiedergewonnen wird, od@v durch Behandeln der Reaktionsmlsehung mit Wasser, woibei das Beaktions«·
produkt ausfällt und das Lösungsmittel wie der Katalysator
in die wässrige Phase gehen«

Apparatur mit Tetrafluoräthylen umgesetzt. Dazu lo'st man 75 g
(0,5 Mol) o-see,-Butylphenal in 240 g Dimethylformamid und
fügt 7 g (0,125 Mol) KDH zu* Ss wird geröhrt, Ibis eine J/osung
vorliegt, woibei evtl, geheizt werden muss* Di© erhaltene
■Lösung wird in den Kollben der Beaktionsapparatur {Äibib* 1)
gefüllt, Der Kolben und die kolonne werden mit Stiegst off und
anschliessend mit Tetrafluorlthylen aus d@m TorratstJeMlter
gespült, Dann heizt man Kolben wad Kolonne auf 9O*9 C* Die
Pumpe wird eingeschaltet,, so dass die I&suag dureh die Kolonne
rieselt. Die Innentemperatiur ibeträgt B7& C# Mach "Einschalten der Pumpe setzt sofort Tetrafluorathjlenveriiraueh
" ein. Durch das Uiveaugefäss wird dafür g&ß®rgfc, dass. 4er Druck
nicht wesentlich unter Iformaldruck liegt. Durch die exotherme
Reaktion steigt die Temperatur auf 100° C* Mach 1S mi:n, Wr%
die Tetrafluoräthjlenaufna'hme auf, Das E-ea^ktionsprodukt wird
durch Ausfällen mit Wasser, Trocknen aait

Claims (9)
- -a-Patentansprüche t .Verfahren zur Herstellung von Aryl-1,1,2,2-tetrafluoräthyläthern durch Umsetzung von Phenolen mit Tetrafluoräthylen in organischen Lösungsmitteln, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man ©ine Lösung von etwa 5 bis etwa 50 GGV/.% des Phenols in wassermischbaren, polaren und gegenüber Tetrafluoräthylan unter den Reaktionsbedingungen inerten Lösungsmitteln, vorzugsweise Dimethylformamid, Hexamethyl-Phosphorsäuretrisamid und Dimethylsulfoxid, in Gegenwart von etwa 0,05 bis etwa 0,5 Mol Alkalihydroxid pro Mol Phenol bei Normaldruck oder geringem Unterdruck und Temperaturen von etwa 50 bis etwa 150p C mit Tetrafluoräthylen r in Kontakt bringt.
- 2.) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass als Lösungsmittel Dimethylformamid verwendet wird.
- 3.) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass als Lösungsmittel. Dimethylsulfoxid verwendet, wird.
- 4.) Verfahren nach Anspruch .1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass als Lösungsmittel Hexamethyl-Phosphorsäuretrisamid verwendet wird.
- 5.) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Reaktionslösung 10 bis 30 Gew.?6 Phenol enthält.
- 6.) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, * dass die Realttionslösung 15 bis 20 Gew.96 Phenol enthält.
- 7.) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass als Katalysator Kaliumhydroxid verwendet wird.
- 8.) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Katalysator in Mengen von 0,1 bis 0,3 Mol pro Mol Phenol zur Anwendung gelangt.
- 9.) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass eine Reaktionstemperatur von AO bis 130° C eingehalten wird.109852/1817BAD ORIGINAL
