Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine, in particular a diesel engine, with a high-pressure pump device via a common pre-storage with fuel-supplied fuel injection devices, the engine optionally with a first, pure fuel or with a second Fuel in the form of an emulsion of fuel and one versus the fuel insoluble further substance, in particular water, is operable, and with a Emulsion mixing device for producing the fuel emulsion from the in one Fuel reserve and the fuel held in a further reserve further substance, part of which is fed to the fuel injectors Fuel as a control and leakage quantity on a control and leakage quantity line arises. Such emulsion mixing devices are known from DE 44 14 488 C1.
In the future it can be expected that for the operation of diesel engines, especially of Large diesel engines the use of emulsion fuel is becoming increasingly important wins to reduce exhaust emissions, especially for nitrogen oxides, and to reduce the specific fuel consumption in the high-load range. Under a Emulsion fuel is understood to be a fuel in which fuel and one opposite the fuel-insoluble additional substance is present in an emulsion, for example water and diesel oil, water and heavy oil, or methanol and diesel oil, most often one Emulsion of water and light or heavy diesel oil is used.
A difficulty in operating an internal combustion engine with an emulsion fuel is that when the engine is not used for a long time, the two separate components of the emulsion which are not soluble to one another take place, so that the next Starting the engine instead of emulsion may only include water, for example the use of an oil-water emulsion is injected and the Starting properties of the engine deteriorate significantly.
Another difficulty in operating with an emulsion fuel is that with one Load change of the engine a quick adjustment of the composition of the emulsion is required. For example, load shedding opens from medium to full load less than 30% load a quick change in fuel composition to pure Fuel required, otherwise the combustion could go out. However also with Increasing the load it is desirable to get the fuel composition as quickly as possible to adapt to the requirements of the load state in order to operate the motor optimally can.
There is still another difficulty in using emulsion fuel in that the constantly occurring control and leakage amount of the engine Fuel injectors are either in shape depending on the operating condition of the engine of pure fuel, in particular diesel oil, or in the form of an emulsion, in particular in the form of a diesel oil-water emulsion, which is another Difficult to use.
Finally, there is a difficulty that when moving from one Operation with emulsion fuel at medium to full load on operation with pure Fuel with less than 30% load that is still available in the common pre-storage Amount of emulsion no longer fed to the fuel injectors and can be burned. With every load shedding to less than 30% the load falls in the common pre-stored emulsion as a residual amount, initially is not usable.
The invention has for its object to provide a fuel injection system that one improved emulsion operation allowed.
This task is performed in a generic device by Features specified in the characterizing part of the main claim.
Advantageous developments of the invention are specified in the subclaims.

FIGS. 5a and 5b are sections of schematic illustrations of fuel injection systems according to the present invention illustrating two details of the invention solutions.
In the first, basic exemplary embodiment of the fuel injection system according to the invention shown in FIG. 1a, a number of fuel injection devices 1 , of which only one is shown in the figure, are supplied with fuel under high pressure from a common pre-memory 6 . The common pre-store 6 is an oil-elastic store (common rail) which holds a certain amount of the fuel under pressure. The fuel is optionally a first, pure fuel, namely diesel oil, or an emulsion of the diesel oil and a substance that is insoluble in relation to the diesel oil, namely water. The fuel is fed to the common preliminary storage 6 by means of a high-pressure pump 9 from an emulsion mixing device 19 , which is capable of producing an emulsion composed of diesel oil and water in accordance with the load requirements of the engine. Optionally, the emulsion mixer 19 may be formed so that it is also in a position at a respective load requirement of pure diesel oil through the high-pressure pump 9 to promote the joint prestore 6, or the pure diesel oil may be a specially provided high-pressure pump 10 to the common prestore 6 can be fed directly. The high-pressure pump 9 can also be used for this. Then the line connected to a fuel supply (diesel) is to be connected via a valve 30 to the line leading from the emulsion mixer to the high-pressure pump. In emulsion operation the valve closes as shown. The high-pressure pump 10 is then unnecessary. The emulsion mixing device is of a type known per se and is described in DE 44 14 488 C1.
The emulsion mixing device is fed from the fuel supply (diesel) via a first input of pure fuel in the form of diesel oil by means of a fuel feed pump 12 via a fuel filter 13 and a fuel flow meter 11 . The water required to produce the emulsion is fed to the emulsion mixing device 19 at a second inlet by means of a water delivery pump 15 , a water filter 16 and a water flow meter 14 from its own supply (water). In the case mentioned above that the pure diesel oil is supplied to the common storage tank 6 via its own high-pressure pump 10 , its input side is also connected to the fuel feed pump 12 . The flow meters 11 and 14 are used to meter the quantities of diesel oil and water required in each case in accordance with the load requirement of the engine for the production of the emulsion in the emulsion mixing device 19 .
The amount of control and leakage that occurs during operation of the fuel injection devices 1 is discharged from the fuel injection devices 1 via a control and leakage amount line 26 . This is connected to the input of a 4/3-way valve 3 , which is able to distribute the control and leakage quantity optionally over one of three outputs. The first outlet of the 4/3-way valve 3 is connected directly to the diesel oil supply via a line. The second output is connected via a line to a third input of the emulsion mixing device 19 , which is provided for receiving an already mixed emulsion. Finally, the third outlet of the 4/3-way valve 3 is coupled via a line to an emulsion buffer store 20 , which is provided for the purpose of temporarily absorbing the control and leakage quantities in the form of fuel emulsion. A heat exchanger 2 can optionally be provided in the control and leakage quantity line 26 , which serves to cool down the control and leakage quantity emitted by the fuel injection devices 1 .
An output of the emulsion buffer 20 is, as shown, connected via a pump 31 and a 3/2-way valve 17 to the input of a water separator 4 , which is intended to separate the fuel emulsion into its constituent parts, diesel oil and water, which are from respective first ones and second outputs via corresponding lines to the diesel oil supply or the water supply.
In a second switch position, the 3/2-way valve 17 connects the emulsion buffer 20 to the third input of the emulsion mixing device 19 for dispensing already mixed emulsion into the emulsion mixing device 19 . The pump 31 is switched on or off depending on the status of the memory content.
Finally, an emulsion circulation pump 7 is provided, which is connected in a return line 18 a from the common storage tank 6 and the output side of which is connected via a connecting line 18 d to the line between the high pressure pump 9 and the common storage tank 6 . Through the emulsion circulation pump 7 , the emulsion in the common storage tank 6 can be circulated in order to separate the emulsion, e.g. B. to prevent after a load shedding.
In the case of continuous operation with fuel emulsion, this is fed from the emulsion mixing device 19 via the high-pressure pump 9 to the common pre-storage device 6 and from there to the fuel injection devices 1 . The control and leakage quantity also occurring in the form of fuel emulsion is fed via the heat exchanger 2 and the control and leakage quantity line 26 to the 4/3-way valve 3 , which is in a continuous emulsion operation in the position shown in the figure, in which the Input of the valve is connected to its second output coupled to the third input of the emulsion mixing device 19 . Thus, the control and leakage quantity is fed back to the emulsion mixing device 19 as an emulsion, from where it is released together with the main amount of emulsion produced by the emulsion mixing device 19 from the diesel oil and the water via the high-pressure pump 9 to the common storage tank 6 .
The emulsion operation takes place in operating conditions with a load request of medium load, d. H. more than 30% until full load, the composition of the emulsion either for this load range can be kept constant or preferably as a function of Load state is changed.
For the operating states start, low load, d. H. less than 30%, idle and engine stop the engine is supplied with pure diesel oil by the fuel injection system.
For operation with pure diesel oil, the common storage tank 6 is supplied with the same from the diesel oil supply either on the way via the emulsion mixer without water being added there, or via a fuel high pressure pump 10 provided specifically for this purpose or via valve 30 and the high pressure pump 9 . In the case of continuous operation with pure diesel oil, the control and leakage quantity also being obtained in the form of pure diesel oil, the 4/3-way valve 3 is switched to the position shown on the right in the figure, in which the leakage quantity is returned to the diesel oil supply. In the case of a load shedding, however, in which the emulsion operation is switched to operation with pure fuel, the control and leakage quantity, as long as this still occurs in the form of fuel emulsion, is fed into the emulsion buffer store 20 until it is still in the lines and in the fuel injection devices 1 pending emulsion is removed. For this purpose, the 4/3-way valve 3 is switched to its third position shown on the left in the figure. After the emulsion has been discharged into the emulsion buffer, the 4/3-way valve 3 then switches to the middle position, so that the amount of control and leakage which then arises in the form of pure fuel is returned to the diesel oil supply.
The emulsion present in the emulsion buffer 20 is separated via the 3/2-way valve 7 either by the water separator 4 into its constituent parts diesel oil and water and these are fed to the respective stocks, or the emulsion is fed to the emulsion mixing device 19 when the engine is again operated with emulsion becomes.
In order to separate the emulsion located in the common pre-storage 6 , e.g. B. to prevent a load shedding, this is circulated by the emulsion circulation pump 7 via the lines 18 a and 18 d in the circuit.
The second basic exemplary embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 1 b basically contains the same components as the first exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1 a and also corresponds in terms of their function to this, with the exception of the circuit for the circulation of the emulsion through the common pre-memory 6 . In a departure from FIG. 1a, the emulsion is not returned from the common pre-storage 6 , but from the fuel injection devices 1. For this purpose, the fuel injection devices 1 have, in addition to the inlet for the fuel supplied from the common pre-storage 6 , an outlet connected therewith via a passage for the part of the fuel not injected into the engine by the fuel injection devices 1 . This outlet of each fuel injector 1 is connected to a common return line 18 b, which leads to the circulating pump 7 and then opens out via the connecting line 18 d on the upstream side of the common storage tank 6 . In this way, a circuit is created in which the emulsion is pumped by means of the circulating pump 7 from the common storage tank 6 through each of the fuel injection devices 1 , the common return line 18 b and the connecting line 18 d.
In the two exemplary embodiments according to FIGS. 1a and 1b, the circulation in the circuit can optionally be switched on and off by the circulation pump 7 . The circulation pump 7 is at least always put into operation when a rapid adjustment is required when the composition of the fuel or the emulsion changes, and also if, for. B. after a load shedding, segregation of the emulsion threatens.
FIGS. 5a and 5b show details of two variants of the embodiment according to Fig. 1b, in which flows through the fuel injectors 1 of the signal generated by the circulation pump 7 circuit. A number of fuel injectors 1 are shown in FIGS. 5a and 5b in each case two, which are supplied from the high-pressure pump 9 via the common prestore 6 with fuel in the form of pure diesel oil, or fuel oil-water emulsion.
In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 5 a, the fuel supplied from the common pre-storage 6 is conducted in a channel A into an injector volume V surrounding the nozzle needle 24 of the fuel injection device 1 . The part of the fuel which is not injected into the combustion chamber of the engine by the fuel injection device 1 is led via a channel B to the return line 18 b, from where the fuel is supplied to the upstream side of the common pre-memory 6 by means of the circulation pump 7 via the connecting line 18 d. The connecting line 18 d opens at a point downstream of the high-pressure pump 9 into the line between the high-pressure pump 9 and the common preliminary storage 6 , this point forming a mixing area for the fuel conveyed by the high-pressure pump 9 and the fuel conveyed by the circulation pump 7 .
The embodiment shown in Fig. 5b is essentially the same as Fig. 5a, however, in deviation from this, the fuel is not passed through the injector volume V of the fuel injection devices 1 , but flows over a shorter path via a channel C bypassing the injector volume V to the return line 18 b.
Fig. 2 shows a third embodiment of the fuel injection system according to the invention, which corresponds in all essential components with the first embodiment shown in Fig. 1a. However, the common prestore 6 comprises a first memory 6 a rail to supply the fuel injectors 1 connected to the first, the pure fuel and a second storage rail 6 b to supply the fuel injection device 1 with the fuel emulsion. The first storage rail 6 a is connected to the fuel supply (diesel) via a high-pressure pump 10 provided specifically for this purpose, and the second storage rail 6 b is connected to the emulsion mixing device 19 via a high-pressure emulsion pump 9 for supplying the emulsion. Furthermore, a 3/2-way high-pressure valve 5 is provided, through which either the first storage rail 6 a can be connected to the fuel injection devices 1 in order to supply them with the pure fuel, or the second storage rail 6 b to supply the fuel injection devices 1 with emulsion . The switching of the 3/2-way high-pressure valve 5 takes place depending on the load state, whereby for the operating states start, low load, ie less than 30%, idling and engine stop, the first storage rail 6 a is switched in order to supply the fuel injection devices 1 with pure fuel , and for operating conditions with a load request, medium load, ie more than 30%, until full load is switched to the second storage rail B in order to supply the fuel injection devices 1 with emulsion.
Since, during the supply of the fuel injection devices 1 with the pure fuel contained in the first storage rail 6 a, the emulsion remains in the second storage rail 6 b and there is therefore a risk of segregation, the emulsion in the second storage rail 6 b is circulated by the circulation pump 7 Return line 18 a and the connecting line 18 d kept in circulation. A check valve 8 prevents a backlash of emulsion by the action of the high pressure pump 9 in the lines 18 d and 18 a.
The fourth exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 3 is related to the generation of the emulsion in the emulsion mixing device 19 , the return of the control and leakage quantity from the fuel injection devices 1 and the construction of the common pre-storage 6 by a first and a second storage rail to that shown in FIG. 2 shown embodiment constructed accordingly. Deviating from this, the circuit for circulating the emulsion through the second storage rail 6 b, however, contains a connecting line 18 c to the upstream side of the high-pressure pump 9 , so that the fuel is circulated by the action of the high-pressure pump 9 . Between the return line 18 b from the second storage rail 6 b and the connecting line 8 c, a variable throttle 21 is connected, which serves to limit the current through the return line 18 b to a predetermined value or a minimum working pressure of, for example, 350 bar in the ensure second storage rail 6 b. Furthermore, a 3/2-way valve 22 is provided, which is connected in the return line 8 b, and an emptying line 25 connected between the 3/2-way valve 22 and the intermediate buffer store 20 , via which the emulsion present in the second storage rail 6 b in the emulsion buffer 20 can be emptied, so that in the corresponding switching position of the 3/2-way valve 22 the emulsion present in the second storage rail 6 b can be replaced by pure fuel, which is then conveyed through the emulsion mixing device 19 via the high pressure pump 9 . In this way it is possible after an engine stop or an engine emergency stop to remove the emulsion from the common pre-memory 6 and the emulsion circuit or to rinse these parts with pure fuel (diesel). The discharged emulsion is fed via the drain line 25 into the emulsion buffer 20 .
The fifth exemplary embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 4 contains a common preliminary storage 6 with a single storage rail, which serves to supply the fuel injection devices 1 with both pure fuel (diesel) and with emulsion. In accordance with the previous exemplary embodiments, the common preliminary store 6 is supplied with the emulsion produced in the emulsion mixing device 19 via the high-pressure pump 9 . As in the embodiment of FIG. 3, the return line 18 a from the common storage tank 6 is connected via a connecting line 18 c to the upstream side of the high pressure pump 9 , so that the fuel by the action of the high pressure pump 9 in a circuit through the common storage tank 6 can be performed. A variable throttle 21 in the return line serves to limit the current through it to a predetermined value and ensures that a minimum working pressure of, for example, 350 bar is maintained in the common pre-memory 6 .
As in the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 3, the return line 18 a contains a 3/2-way valve 22 , via which the common pre-memory 6 can optionally be connected to an emptying line 25 , which leads to the emulsion buffer 20 and via which the in the common pre-memory 6 existing emulsion can be emptied into the emulsion buffer 20 , so that the emulsion in the common pre-storage 6 can be replaced by pure fuel (diesel). The time for emptying the emulsion from the common pre-storage 6 into the emulsion buffer 20 and for refilling the common pre-storage 6 with pure fuel via the high-pressure pump 9 must be sufficiently short so that the combustion does not go out as a result of excessive water content in the event of a load shedding. To supply pure fuel to the high-pressure pump 9 , a 3/2-way valve 23 is provided in the connecting line between the upstream side of the high-pressure pump 9 and the emulsion mixing device 19 , via which a direct connection to the supply of pure fuel (diesel) at the downstream Side of the fuel feed pump 12 can be produced. By means of the 3/2-way valve 23 , by switching it bypassing the emulsion mixing device 19, pure fuel can be supplied to the high-pressure pump 9 immediately, as a result of which the time for exchanging the emulsion for pure fuel can be considerably shortened.
In all of the exemplary embodiments, the switching times of the 4/3-way valve 3 , by means of which the control and leakage quantity, depending on the respective operating state, are optionally supplied directly to the supply of pure fuel (diesel), the emulsion input of the emulsion mixing device 19 or the emulsion buffer store 20 that no emulsion can get into the supply of pure fuel. The switching times can either be time-controlled or controlled via sensors which are provided, for example, in the control and leakage quantity line 26 .
