Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an elek tric component according to the preamble of claim 1 and relates to an electrical connector component for electrical connection of circuits on several conductive surfaces, such as electrically conductive capable traces on printed circuit plates are arranged.
A well known electrical connector, one by one Spring looped flexible circuit is used in US-A-5 035 628, which is hereby incorporated by reference Reference in its entirety to one component the present description is made. This known connector system creates an electrical Connector for positioning between parallel surfaces Chen and for the electrical connection of conductive Areas on these areas. More precisely, to be precise tet the connector a housing and contact elements that by wrapping a flexible circuit around one single chamfered coil spring or by around wrap a flexible circuit around two from each other spaced, chamfered coil springs are formed. This connector advantageously creates an on direction, through the two printed circuit boards can be electrically connected to each other; the flexible film switching, however, due to Surface irregularities may not be full contact with the electrical conductor on the printed circuit board.
Another known connector system is in the US A-3 851 297, hereby shown in its entirety by reference to a component of the present Description is made. That invention is concerned with connectors that have an elongated spring body Have elastomer in the form of a tubular Spring is formed around the one in a single Layer of trained wire coil is wound. The winding turns are by cutting the coil separated from each other in the longitudinal direction of the body individual conductive tracks of C-shaped elements to bil those that are part of the circumferential profile of the Body stretch. Exposed surface area Rich wires form contact points in a row along the body. Each C-shaped turn forms one Pair of diametrically opposed contacts. The coil can be wound such that after Intersect areas of each C-shaped win Extend the application areas freely from the spring body. The said invention advantageously uses Wei a spring to create compliance, and it ensures electrical contact between Wires and conductor tracks on a printed scarf plate; when using single wires however, there are inherent disadvantages, such as Spacing problems, costs and difficult mon animalability. Since there is also no elastomeric material in Connection with the spring is missing Connector certain adaptation properties to the on fit to surface irregularities.
In addition to the shortcomings of the prior art there there are certain restrictions on systems with one only elastomer or spring systems, which at elek trical connectors are used, such as Low temperature shrink, heat hysteresis and chip slackening. The above phenomena genes have a harmful influence on you Pressure contact (for example an electrical connector dung), which results in a decrease in contact force and a loss of electrical continuity when cooling len due to shrinkage. Thermal hysteresis is due to the fact that the stress and relief curves for elastomers not with each other to match. Temperature fluctuations therefore have one negative impact on elastomeric connector systems in of the order of up to 50%. Also experienced Elastomers relieve tension with constant loading load due to a polymer creep phenomenon. Wei also have conventional individual systems with Elasto mer or spring electrical surfaces that a ladder Contact the web with no abrasive effect, whereby Frag elements or undesirable layers or oxidation between the surfaces that come into contact with each other remain.
To overcome the above harmful Phenomena as well as to eliminate the disadvantages of the The present invention provides prior art an elastomeric electrical connector component that includes a metallic spring that fits into an elasto more material is embedded or in combination is used with it.
The present invention thus creates a verver more casual pressure contact formation by combining the Compensation effects of an elastomer (i.e. the adjustment of surface irregularities) with the Resilience or spring properties of a spring. A preferred embodiment of the invention provides also an advantageous contact surface grinding effect to remove unwanted material between the Contact areas.
The present invention provides an electrical one Component for establishing an electrical connection between conductor tracks, the component being a flexible Film circuit element with conductor on it sheets, an elastomeric material to the electrical Component a local or locally limited adaptation lend effect when the electrical component through conductor tracks or an electrical connector construction part is pressurized, and a Federele ment that with the first elastomeric material is connected to the electrical component a loka len or locally limited compliance effect lend when the electrical component through the Lei railways is pressurized. The adjustment and compliance effects, such as those integrated Have shape in the electrical component the tendency to dampen harmful phenomena, such as Low temperature shrink, heat hysteresis and chip decrease, and they therefore ensure that a good electrical connection between the electri conductor tracks is maintained. also the conductor tracks of a grinding effect are made sets, thereby removing unwanted frag elements or other material is ensured.

Fig. 1 shows a small or miniaturized elec trical component 1 with an oval cross section, which has a spring element 20 with a C-shaped cross section, which is formed for example from a suitable spring material, such as beryllium copper. A flexible film circuit 50 with conductive traces 52 is shown wrapped around an elastomeric core 60 , the core being formed, for example, from a silicone rubber composition having a suitable hardness and remaining deformed. The flexible film circuit 50 has, for example, a polyimide material of suitable thickness. The conductor tracks 52 are formed, for example, by continuous tracks of conductive material (for example gold-plated copper conductor tracks) which are arranged on the film 50 by conventional photoetching techniques. The C-shaped spring 20 is embedded in elastomer 60 . Thereon a printed circuit board 70 has vorgese hene electrical conductor tracks 52 for electrical engagement with circuit traces 52 of the flexible film circuit 50th
Fig. 2 shows the C-shaped spring member 20 prior to embedding in the elastomeric material 60. Fig. 3 shows a C-shaped spring element 20 'which is ausgebil det along its sides in the direction of extension with grooves 35 . If the helical spring-like element 20 'is embedded in elastomeric material 60 and the flexi ble film circuit 50 is wrapped around it, the grooves 35 are preferably aligned with those regions of the flexible film circuit 50 on which no circuit conductor tracks 52 are formed. That is, the ribs 36 are preferably aligned with the circuit traces 52 of the flexible film circuit 50 , thereby forming a circuit component with a spring and elastomer integrated therein, which is characterized in that it has a local compliance effect (due to the elastomeric element 60 ). and creates an adjustment effect (due to the spring 20 ) in the area where the circuit traces 52 and 72 are to make contact. The combination of these two effects tends to reduce deleterious phenomena such as low temperature shrinkage, heat hysteresis and stress relief.
Fig. 4 shows the electrical component 1 mounted between two printed circuit boards 70 , on which electrical conductor tracks 72 are provided in order to come into electrical engagement with the circuit conductor tracks 52 of the flexible film circuit 50 . Verbin derwalls 84 of an electrical connector 80 are shown spaced apart from the electrical component 1 in the lateral direction. The electrical connector 80 is designed to hold the electrical component 1 in its position between the plates 70 and can have various shapes and arrangements as taught and disclosed in US-A-5 241 451, this document in its Whole is hereby incorporated by reference into an integral part of the present description. When the printed circuit boards 70 are moved relatively towards one another, the conductor tracks 72 engage the electrical component 1 and thus press it together, so that an electrical continuity is established between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 .
The elastomer 60 creates an adaptation to any non-planar formation that could exist in the areas that come into contact with one another. The C-shaped spring element 20 gives the electrical construction part 1 resilience or resilience and thus ensures a source of reaction forces, so that good electrical contact between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 is maintained. In other words, this means that the mechanical properties of the spring 20 are provided integrated with the mechanical properties of the elastomer 60 . This integration advantageously creates a mitigation of the adverse phenomena, such as low temperature shrinkage, heat hysteresis and stress relief. As will be described hereinafter, the embodiments described in FIGS . 5 through 21 also provide a reduction in the deleterious phenomena of low temperature shrink, heat hysteresis and stress relief by providing an electrical component in which the spring and elastomer are provided in an integrated manner.
Fig. 5 shows an electrical component 2 , which is an alternative alternative to the oval component 1 of Fig. 1 by having a generally circular cross-section, but has a coil spring 21 for encapsulation in elastomer 60 . Like the C-shaped spring 20 described above, the coil spring 21 also integrates the flexibility properties of a spring into the elastomer 60 , thereby ensuring good electrical contact between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 .
In the following Figures 6 to 10 will be described.. Fig. 6 shows an electrical component 3 with generally curved contours along an upper and a lower surface 3 a. Complementary, curved spring elements 22 are embedded in elastomer 60 : there is a spring 22 in the upper half of the electrical component 3 and a spring 22 in the lower half of the electrical component 3 . Each curved spring 22 includes apex areas or elevation areas 22 a and a valley area 22 b. The elevation regions 22 a are dimensioned such that they are arranged in the vicinity of the conductor tracks 72 of the printed circuit board 70 . This position ensures that the mechanical resilience properties of the springs 22 are localized in that area of the elastomeric matrix 60 where the grip between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 takes place most safely.
It goes without saying, however, that when the printed circuit boards 70 move relative to one another and when the same is attacked on the electrical component 3, the component 3 is elastically compressed, so that an abrasive effect takes place between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 relative to one another, if the same attack each other tenderly, thereby advantageously removing such undesirable material as fragments or oxidation between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 . When the compression process and the grinding process take place, the spring valley region 22 b bends and is thereby relatively flat or less curved. The bend of the valley areas 22 b gives the elevation areas 22 a of the spring additional elasticity, thereby weakening the above-mentioned harmful phenomena and thereby ensuring good electrical contact between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 .
With reference to FIG. 7, an electrical component 4 with a generally X-shaped cross section will now be described. An X-shaped spring 23 includes resilient arm regions 23 c, each of which has two end regions 23 a and a flexible connection region 23 b. The end regions 23 a are in the vicinity of the conductor tracks 72 of the printed circuit board 70 , in order thereby to concentrate the spring force locally in this region of the elastomer 60 and thus to reduce the above-mentioned harmful phenomena and good electrical contact between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 ensure. If the printed circuit boards 70 are relatively moved towards each other so that the conductor tracks 52 and 72 come into sliding contact with each other, the respective arms 23 c are bent in response to the pressure exerted by the circuit boards 70 on the electrical component 4 . During this bending process, the conductor tracks 72 carry out a grinding process on the surface of the conductor tracks 72 . As a result, good electrical contact between the conductor tracks 52 and 72 is established and maintained even when the conductor tracks 72 of the circuit boards are not exactly parallel, have unevenness or even have undesirable material on their surfaces before geous.
Fig. 8 shows an electrical component 5 with a ge curved bottom surface on the conductor tracks 52 are net angeord. The elastomer 60 is formed with a groove 60 a for receiving a connector strip 86 , which creates a holding force for the electrical component 5 , thereby to hold the component 5 against the circuit boards 70 . A curved spring 24 includes raised areas 24 a and a valley area 24 b. The valley region 24 b is in the vicinity of the connector strip 86 in order to transmit forces to the curved spring 24 and thus to the elevation regions 24 a, which are in the vicinity of the conductor tracks 72 of the printed circuit boards 70 , which are in the present exemplary embodiment are not opposed to each other, but are arranged side by side. The resilience is concentrated locally in the area where the conductor tracks 52 and 72 are aligned for the electrical contact; in addition, the conductor tracks 52 perform a wiping or grinding operation on the upper side of the conductor tracks 72 , so that they remain in good electrical contact.
An electrical component 6 will now be described with reference to FIG. 9. The electrical component 6 is reversely V-shaped in cross section and contains a reversed V-shaped spring 25 with Schei tel regions 25 a and a curvature region 25 b. The apex regions 25 a are advantageously arranged in the vicinity of the conductor tracks 72 on the printed circuit boards 70 for reasons of flexibility. Likewise, the curvature region 25 b is advantageously provided in the vicinity of a conductor track 72 . The positions of the apex areas 25 a and the curvature area 25 b enable the electrical component 6 to create resilience where this is necessary, ie where the conductor tracks 52 attack the surface of the conductor tracks 72 and move through them in a looping manner.
Fig. 10 shows a pin-bearing electrical component 7 with an arcuate pin spring 26 having a pin groove area 89 with a pin 88 arranged therein to rotatably mount the pin-type electrical component 7 on a frame 90 . The pin spring 26 extends beyond the elastomeric area 60 so that the groove area 89 can be connected to the connector pin 88 . The pin spring 26 has end portions 26 a, which are arranged before ge geous near the traces 72 printed circuit boards 70 ge. In this way, the resilience of the pin spring or spring 26 defined by a pin is localized in the region of the conductor tracks 52 and 72 . As in the previous embodiments, the conductor tracks 52 also advantageously carry out a grinding process on the surface of the conductor tracks 72 when the electrical component 7 is pressed between circuit boards 70 .
Subsequently, the FIG described 11 to 14.. Fig. 11 shows an electrical part 8 of generally circular cross-section, the member 8 is an elastomeric material 60 b having disposed therein circular spring 27 includes. The resilience and an adaptation to surface irregularities are maintained in this case as in the previous embodiments. A flexible film circuit 50 with conductor tracks 52 provided thereon is looped around the component 8 , for example to be electrically connected to conductor tracks on a printed circuit board.
Fig. 12 also shows an electrical component 8 'with a generally circular cross-section, which has an inner core made of relatively hard elastomeric material, which is surrounded by elastomeric material with relatively lower hardness. As with the previous embodiments, which preferably use a metal spring, the compliance and adaptation to surface irregularities are maintained in this case as well, since the relatively hard elastomeric material creates compliance and the relatively less hard elastomeric material creates an adaptation to surface irregularities. The flexible film circuit 50 with the conductor tracks 52 is looped around the component 8 ', for example, to be electrically connected to conductor tracks on a printed circuit board.
Fig. 13 shows an electrical component 8 '' with an inner core made of a relatively soft elastomeric material 60 b, which is surrounded by a relatively harder elastomeric material 60 c. As with the previous embodiments, the compliance and conformity to surface irregularities are maintained since the relatively less hard elastomeric material creates the compliance and the relatively harder elastomeric material provides the adaptation to surface irregularities. A flexible film circuit 50 with traces 52 is wrapped around the construction part 8 '', for example to make an electrical connection with traces on a printed circuit board.
Fig. 14 shows an electrical component 8 '''with a hollow inner core 60 d, which is surrounded by a relatively hard elastomeric material 60 c, which in turn is from a relatively softer elastomeric material 60 b ben. The electrical component 8 '''is then surrounded by a flexible film circuit 50 , which has conductor tracks 52 formed thereon, for example in order to produce a connection to conductor tracks on a printed circuit board. In effect, the combination of a relatively softer elastomeric material 60 b with a relatively harder elastomeric material 60 c creates the resilience and adaptation properties as described in the previous embodiments, which included an elastomeric material with a metallic spring The embodiments of Figures 11 to 14 thus adapt to any unevenness that may be present in the communicating surfaces, but these embodiments still act as a spring that creates good resilience properties, thereby creating a good one Maintain electrical contact between traces 52 and, for example, traces on a printed circuit board.
An electrical component 9 will now be described with reference to FIGS. 15 to 18. The exporting approximately forms of FIGS. 15 to 18 are used preferably for use in larger electrical systems. The electrical component 9 is generally an Ω- (omega) -shaped electrical component with an Ω-shaped spring element 28 which has bowl-like recess regions 28 a and a curvature region 28 b. The spring element 28 is preferably formed from a suitable spring material, but can also be formed from a suitable plastic material with mechanical spring properties similar to those of a metallic spring. Elastomeric elements 60 e are arranged in each of the recess areas 28 a. A flexible film circuit 50 with conductor tracks 52 arranged thereon is looped around the outer circumference of the Ω-shaped spring 28 . The flexible film layer 50 is connected to the Ω-shaped spring 28 by adhesive, for example by an acrylic-based adhesive material available in retail.
Fig. 16 shows the Ω-shaped component 9 , from which part of the flexible film circuit 50 is removed in order to expose the elastomeric elements 60 e arranged in the recess regions 28 a. Fig. 17 shows the Ω-shaped component 9 in respective openings 71 of housing elements 70 'arranged. The openings 71 are holding shoulders 73 for holding the Ω-shaped electrical component 9 when no printed circuit boards 70 attack the components 9 . As shown in Fig. 17 on the right side, it follows when printed circuit boards 70 are relatively rela tively moved towards each other and these press in such a way on the Ω-shaped electrical component 9 , a resilient bending movement of the recess areas 28 a in Direction on the housing elements 70 '. Due to the elastomer 60 e and the spring 28 , the electrical component 9 thus has the possibility of adapting to unevenness or a compliant formation, whereby the aforementioned harmful phenomena are weakened. Furthermore, the conductor tracks 52 advantageously carry out a grinding process on the surface of the conductor tracks 72 , where good electrical contact between them ensures this. In Fig. 17 both have Ω-shaped electrical components 9 in the same direction; in Fig. 18, however, one of the electrical components 9 has been rotated by 180 °. It is understood by the average person skilled in the art that the above-mentioned advantageous effects of the arrangement of FIG. 17 (with regard to grinding effect, resilience and adaptation) in the arrangement of FIG. 18 are equally aimed.
Another embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to Figs . Fig. 19 shows a bent electrical component 10 with an elastomeric member 60 with belly of end regions 60 f and a bent spring 29 which is connected to the same with an upper surface. The curved spring 29 includes bowl-like recess areas 29 a for engagement with the bulging areas 60 f of the elastomeric element 60 . A flexible film circuit 50 is guided around a bottom surface of the bent electrical component 10 , with conductor tracks 52 of the film circuit 50 resting on conductor tracks 72 of circuit board elements 70 . For example, a circuit board member 70 is moved downward in the direction of arrow "A", pressing against the spring 29 so that the apex of the spring 29 is made flat. Fig. 20 shows an electrical component 10 ', which is the electrical component 10 of FIG. 19 after the never press through the plate member 70 in a general flat configuration. However, it should again be pointed out that during the transformation of the electrical component 10 into the flat configuration 10 ', the conductor tracks 52 over the surfaces of the conductor tracks 72 grind. In particular, the bulging areas 60 f are deformed, but they remain held by the recessed areas 29 a of the spring 29 , so that in turn an adaptation and resilience take place, as explained above with reference to the preceding exemplary embodiments.
Fig. 21 shows a of a curved in a relatively flat configuration bringable electrical component 11 with a of a curved in a re relatively flat configuration bringable spring element 30 , the apex regions or elevation regions 30 a and an intermediate flat region 30 b owns. The elevation regions 30 a are arranged in the vicinity of conductor tracks 72 and 52 in order to create the described flexibility and adaptation. An elastomeric element 60 is configured to match the contour of the springs 30 that can be brought from a curved configuration to a relatively flat configuration. Overlapping regions 74 are on a flexible film circuit 50 is provided to the film TIC 50 securely around the electrical component 11, which figuration of a curved in a relatively flat to Kon engageable, herumzuwickeln, for which purpose, for example, an adhesive compound is used.
