Trotz der großen Betriebssicherheit solcher Dichtungen hat es sich insbesondere bei der Abdichtung von unter hohem Druck stehenden Gasen gezeigt, daß sie nicht immer voll befriedigen. Während die mit Asbest gefüllten Dichtungsringe das abzudichtende Gas durchlassen, sind die mit einem Graphit-Kunstharz-Gemisch ausgefüllten Dichtungsringe nicht ausreichend wärmebeständig und die Metalldrähte nicht elastisch genug bzw. nur bei hoher Dichtpressung anwendbar.Sealing rings are known for sealing pipe connections to use with a metallic support that is concentric on both sides Has annular grooves in which graphitized asbestos cords or metal wires are inserted are. Um ein Herausfallen der Dichtungsschnüre vor dem Einbau zu vermeiden, ist es vorteilhaft, diese einzukleben. Ferner ist es denkbar, die gesamte Dichtung zusätzlich mit einer Graphitmasse zu überziehen, um eine Feinabdichtung sicherzustellen.
