Description
DEUTSCHESGERMAN
Weizenrost. The invention relates to the treatment of living plants which are subject to attack by fungi are. In particular, the invention relates to the control and destruction of grain rust, such as z. ß. Wheat rust.
It has been found that in use the reaction products of phenylhydrazine and acrolein or crotonaldehyde are unusually effective Fighting fungi is achieved.
auf PflanzenThe reaction products to be used according to the invention are easily obtainable in a known manner by bringing phenylhydrazine into contact with acrolein or crotonaldehyde. While saturated aldehydes are known to give stable hydrazones with the hydrazines, acrolein or crotonaldehyde undergoes condensation with phenylhydrazine to form mixtures of compounds, some of which have not yet been identified due to the difficulty of separating them. They are likely to be easily isomerizable compounds, and this characteristic together with the presence of olefinic double bonds in the two starting aldehydes leads to the formation of complex products which are not just aldehyde phenylhydrazones. Aldehyde, erfährt, wie in den Annalen 274. S. 319, as beschrieben ist, eine Umsetzung mit Phenylhydrazin unter Bildung von etwas 1-Phenylpyrazolin:Aldehydes, as described in Annalen 274, p. 319, as is described, reacts with phenylhydrazine with formation of some 1-phenylpyrazoline:

CH0-CH.,CH 0 -CH.,
C6H5-N CHC 6 H 5 -N CH
However, there are indications that products from higher molecular weight are formed. With crotonaldehyde there is also a tendency to ring closure, in this case the 5-methyl-1-phenylpyrazoline is formed. But here, too, this is not the only component of the reaction. Accordingly the fungicides to be used according to the invention are simply referred to below as phenylhydrazine-acrolein- and phenylhydrazine-crotonaldehyde reaction products, respectively. They are available by you simply add acrolein or crotonaldehyde with an essentially equimolar amount of phenylhydrazine at reduced, normal or slightly elevated temperature, d. H. at temperatures between about 0 and 80 °. The thus obtained Reaction mixture is used without being subjected to any separation process.
The acrolein-phenylhydrazine and crotonaldehyde-phenylhydrazine reaction products have been found to be with regard to the prevention and retardation of fungal growth on plants in this respect have a very beneficial effect as they eradicate and prevent fungal growth on the plants, but not are phytotoxic if they are in the minimum koiizentrationen where they are effective against fungi. You can immediately access the Plants are applied, but since the reaction products in question are extremely dilute Concentration are effective, it is preferred to incorporate them into a carrier or diluent. Fungicides in powder or dust form can be prepared by using the aldehyde-phenylhydrazine reaction mixtures mixed with powdery materials such as talc, clay, lime, bentonite, pumice stone, fuller's earth, etc. The reaction products can be dissolved in organic solvents and the resulting solutions in shape spray or rain. A small amount can be even more useful of concentrated solution of the aldeliyd-pheuylhydrazine reaction products in an organic solvent, e.g. B. cyclohexanone, added to water in the presence of an emulsifying agent for use the agent in the form of an oil-in-water emulsion.

The acrolein-phenylhydrazine and crotonaldehyde-phenylhydrazine reaction products are particularly valuable for combating rust rust, namely the different rust types on the Leaves and stalks of wheat, barley, rye, oats and other cereals with small grains Fruit. Such cereal rusts like the stalk rust Puccinia graminis tritici or the leaf rust P. Ruheovera tritici, or strip rust P. glumarum of wheat, cannot usually be treated by fungicides for general purposes are fought. The stalk and ear rust of oats (P. graminis avenae and P. coronata avenae) as well as the straw rust of rye (P. graminis secalis) or the leaf rust of barley (P. hordei) show similar hardiness.
A great deal of effort has been put into cultivating rust-resistant trunks of these cereals breed, but it follows that when new strains z. B. of wheat, new races of the The above-mentioned classes of rust species appear, which are the new stems of wheat from which one assumed that they were rust-resistant, continue to attack. The history of breeding rust-resistant Strains therefore involves an ongoing introduction of grain stems that are resistant to ruling races of the rust species, and a subsequent emergence of new rust races for which the previously introduced grain stems are susceptible. As a result, the fight against fungal growth has been subjected to careful research by chemical treatment of cereal plants. Unfortunately, most of the known fungicides have proven unsuitable, either because they do not prevent rust growth at non-phytotoxic concentrations or because of their physical and chemical nature prevents a technically viable application.
The invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of a few examples.
Es wurde dabei die folgende Verfahrensweise benutzt:The therapeutic effect on wheat was determined for an acrolein-phenylhydrazine reaction product, that by reacting acrolein with an essentially equimolar amount of phenylhydrazine was prepared at room temperature. The following procedure was used:
Five uniform, 6-day-old seedlings of a rust-sensitive wheat species (Seneca) were prepared by means of sprayed with water using a spray device. The individual sheets were then placed between the thumb and forefinger rubbed lightly to remove the "frost" and then with Puccinia rubigovera tritici by gently scratching, up and down, inoculated on the backs of the grated leaves, being a Scalpel was used, which was wetted with water and loaded with spores of the fungus. After vaccination the plants were sprayed with a fine mist of water and placed in an incubation chamber for 48 hours kept at a temperature of 21 ° and a humidity of 100%. They were then placed in greenhouse rooms transferred, where they were held for another 48 hours. At the end of that time, they were using an emulsion prepared as follows: The acrolein - phenylhydrazine reaction product (100 mg) was added to 5 ml of acetone; with the resulting solution then became approximately 0.1 ml of a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate as an emulsifier mixed. The whole was then diluted with 5 ml of water to form an emulsion which contained 1 percent by weight of the acrolein-phenylhydrazine reaction product. For the trial was the 10% emulsion is further diluted with water, so that emulsions are obtained which have a concentration of 0.5 percent by weight of the reaction product.
The plants were sprayed with the emulsions using an atomizer using 5 ml of each emulsion per pot (5 plants per pot). The sprayed plants were then returned to the greenhouse and held there for a week. A study of the plants at the end of this time showed that the plants, either with the O, 5 ° / o or O, 9 l / o emulsion of the acrolein-phenylhydrazine reaction product were sprayed, were completely free of rust pustules. No evidence of any phytotoxic effect of the emulsions on the sprayed plants was observed.
Similarly, vaccinated, but not sprayed plants were held under otherwise identical conditions, were r through the grate in a deleterious w ay impaired.
In this example the effectiveness against wheat rust of a crotonaldehyde-pheuylhydrazine reaction product, by adding phenylhydrazine to an essentially equimolar amount Crotonaldehyde was tested. Using the test procedure described in Example 1 Significant suppression of wheat rust has been observed in plants grown with a 0.5% emulsion of the crotonaldehyde-phenylhydrazine reaction product had been sprayed, itnd there was no evidence of any phytotoxic Determined effect of the emulsion.
