Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a novel process for producing mesoporous, nanocrystalline or amorphous metal carbonates or metal oxides as films, fibers or powders, wherein the metal carbonates and metal oxides may also contain several, in particular two or more, different metals. The method is based on the evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) technique of micelles, in which metal precursors and micelle-forming template molecules are combined in a solution used for film deposition. According to the invention acts as a metal precursor, a chemical complex (metal precursor complex), which is formed in solution from the dissolved metal precursor and a complexing agent. The invention also relates to the novel, templated mesoporous metal carbonate and metal oxide films or fibers which can be produced by the process of the invention and to the use thereof.
Evaporation-Induced Self-Assembly (EISA) is a common direct synthetic route for producing films (coatings) with locally cubic or hexagonal ordered mesopore structure, which uses micelle-forming templates to form the pores. During the film deposition by z. As dip coating or spin coating and a possibly subsequent or parallel drying takes place a defined on the nanometer scale structured phase of template and metal compound. The deposited film is then converted to a mesoporous coating in a calcination process in which the template molecules are thermally decomposed. The size of the pores can be controlled by the size of the micelles.
With the method described so far no templated mesoporous oxides of the metals of the first and second main group could be generated, as well as of various transition metals such. As zinc and cobalt, and the mixed oxides LiCoO 2 , PbZrTiO 4 , CuInO 2 , Cu 2 ZnSnO 4, CoFe 2 O 4 and Cu / ZnO. The reason for this is in each case an unsuitable solubility, condensation and / or crystallization behavior of typical metal oxide precursors. Furthermore, no mesoporous metal carbonates produced using a micellar template have been known so far.
It was therefore an object of the present invention to provide a simple process with which, based on the EISA technology, metal carbonates and metal mixed carbonates and also metal oxides and metal mixed oxides not previously accessible by this method, in particular oxides of the alkaline earth metals, oxides of the third and fourth main groups of the periodic table and oxides of the transition metals can be prepared.
The object of the invention is achieved by the method according to
- a) either a solution is prepared which comprises as solvent a polar organic solvent or water or a mixture thereof, at least one organic template forming micelles in said solvent, at least one metal precursor and at least one organic complexing agent, wherein the complexing agent has at least one carboxy group and the Complexing agent with the metal precursor in the solution forms a chemical metal precursor complex, or a first solution is prepared which comprises said solvent and the micelle-forming organic template and a second solution is prepared comprising said solvent, at least one metal precursor and at least one comprises organic complexing agents such that complexing agents and metal precursors form the metal precursor complex in this solution, and combining both solutions.
- b`) to form a powder or fibers, the solution prepared in a) is divided into droplets via a distribution device, preferably sprayed or atomized via a nozzle, or
- b``) to form a film, a substrate is coated with the solution prepared under a), wherein during the spraying b`) or coating b``) during evaporation of the solvent, the micelles formed by the template are regularly arranged and
- c) the product obtained under b`) or b``) is calcined so that the metal precursor complex is converted into the corresponding metal carbonate and, if appropriate, upon further calcination, the metal carbonate is converted into the corresponding metal oxide.
In contrast to the previously known EISA technology, therefore, in the method according to the invention, the metal precursor in the solution is converted into a chemical metal precursor complex upon addition of the complexing agent. This complexation upstream of the film deposition suppresses the unfavorable crystallization behavior of soluble metal salts (nitrates, sulphates, acetates, halides) which are suitable for the formation of, for example, mesoporous alkaline earth metal oxides or else aluminum oxide, zinc oxide or cobalt oxides. In addition, the complex provides the carbon needed to form metal carbonates.
In contrast to the direct metal oxide formation as described in the prior art, the metal carbonate is first formed in the process according to the invention and the metal oxide is formed therefrom. In addition, according to the invention mixed chemical metal precursor complexes can be prepared, whereby the synthesis of mesoporous mixed carbonates and of those mesoporous oxides and mixed oxides is made possible, which were previously not yet mesoporous produced by EISA.

In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, a metal ion concentration of 0.4 to 0.7 mol / L is used. A ratio of metal salt to organic complexing agent of 1 to 3 is particularly preferred. The micelle-forming template is particularly preferably used in concentrations of about 20 to 30 g / L.
The solution, preferably prepared at ambient temperature, is then either applied to a substrate to form a film in step b) or divided into droplets, preferably sprayed or atomized, to form a powder or fibers via a distribution device, preferably a nozzle.
In the coating process for applying the film, the methods known to those skilled in the art may be used, e.g. dip coating, knife coating, drop coating, spin coating or spray coating. According to the invention, the coatings preferably take place at 10 to 50 ° C., in particular at 20 to 35 ° C., in an atmospheric humidity of 10 to 90%, in particular 20 to 60% and a drying time of 0.1 min to 2 h, in particular 10 min. The other coating conditions, such as dip coating withdrawal speed, spin coating rotational speed, and solution volume in doctoring or drop coating, are to be selected based on the EISA technology such that a templated metal precursor complex mesostructure can form during deposition upon evaporation of the solvent. This adjustment of the coating conditions is not a problem for the expert.
The fibers are preferably made by electrospinning, i. h., From the metal precursor complex solution prepared in step a) are produced by means of a capillary nozzle drops, to which an electric field is applied.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the metal carbonate films and metal oxide films are produced by dip coating, preferably at a withdrawal rate of 1 to 500 mm / min, in particular 50 to 300 mm / min.
As a substrate for depositing the films, any material is suitable, which withstands the deposition of the subsequent heat treatment, preferably silicon, z. As a silicon wafer, steel, graphite, glass or other ceramic materials and sufficiently temperature-stable polymers, plastics and membranes. Upon evaporation of the solvent, the micelles formed by the template regularly rearrange on the substrate and the metal precursor complex accumulates in the interstices between the micelles.
In the last process step c) of the process according to the invention, the powder obtained, the fibers obtained or the deposited film are calcined. In this case, the temperature is chosen so that first forms the carbonate and then the template is decomposed to form mesopores, preferably at 150 to 500 ° C. If a mesoporous metal oxide is to be prepared, it is further calcined, either at the same temperature or with an increase in temperature, until the metal carbonate has been completely converted into the corresponding metal oxide.
In particular, mesoporous oxide films of the alkaline earth metals, the metals of the third and fourth main groups of the Periodic Table and the transition metals and mixed oxides, in particular MgO, ZnO, Al 2 O 3 , CoO, Co 3 O 4 , CaO, In 2 can be prepared by the process according to the invention O 3 : Sn, V 2 O 5 , Mn 2 O 3 , MnO 2 , CdO, Y 2 O 3 , Sc 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , PbZrTiO 4 , BaTiO 3 , SrTiO 3 , LiCoO 2 , CuInO 2 , Cu 2 ZnSnO 4 , CoFe 2 O 4 and Cu / ZnO, very particularly preferably alkaline earth metal oxide films, ZnO, Al 2 O 3 , CoO and Co 3 O 4 films. In particular, films of magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, zinc carbonate, cobalt carbonate or aluminum carbonate and of mixed carbonates such as CaMg (CO 3 ) 2 , CaMn (CO 3 ) 2 , CaFe (CO 3 ) 2 , Na 2 Ca (CO 3 ) 2 can be used as mesoporous metal carbonate films produce.
The present invention therefore also relates to the novel mesoporous amorphous or nanocrystalline metal carbonate films or fibers which can be prepared for the first time by the process of the invention and which have a locally cubic or hexagonal ordered mesopore structure according to this process. In particular, these are a magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, zinc carbonate, cobalt carbonate or aluminum carbonate film and films of mixed carbonates such as CaMg (CO 3 ) 2 , CaMn (CO 3 ) 2 , CaFe (CO 3 ) 2 , Na 2 Ca (CO 3 ) 2 .
A further subject matter of the present invention is also the novel mesoporous amorphous or nanocrystalline metal oxide films or fibers which are produced by the templating method of the invention and thus likewise have a locally cubic or hexagonal ordered mesopore structure, in particular a magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, zinc oxide , Cobalt oxide, strontium oxide, barrium oxide film, or a film of LiCoO 2 , PbZrTiO 4 , CuInO 2 , Cu 2 ZnSnO 4 , CoFe 2 O 4 , Cu / ZnO.
The inventive method allows the first-time production of mesoporous oxide films of alkaline earth metals, but also of mesoporous oxide layers of metals of the third and fourth main group of the periodic table and of transition metals and mixed oxides via the EISA technology, which were previously not known as mesoporous layers. The problems caused by low melting points, insolubility, excessive crystallization and precipitation of common metal oxide precursors have been overcome by the in situ synthesis of the metal complex with an organic complexing agent. Of critical importance is the adequate thermal stability of the template: it facilitates the sequential conversion of the metal precursor complex into carbonate and subsequently into oxide with removal of the template in between.
The present invention also relates to the use of the novel metal carbonate or metal oxide films or fibers produced by the process of the invention as catalysts or catalyst supports, as compound semiconductors in photovoltaics or photo and electrocatalysis, in medical technology, as magnetic data storage or energy storage.
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to embodiments, without limiting it thereto.
