Usually, the SCR catalyst is designed as a single component. However, an SCR catalyst system has also become known comprising a first SCR catalyst and a second SCR catalyst disposed downstream of the first SCR catalyst in an exhaust line. A metering device for metering in a reducing agent solution is arranged upstream of the first SCR catalytic converter in the exhaust gas line. The SCR catalyst system has no device for metering a reducing agent solution into the second SCR catalyst. By means of the at least one metering device, such a large amount of reducing agent solution is metered into the first SCR catalyst that NH 3 slip occurs in the first SCR catalyst. In the second SCR catalyst, an SCR reaction is performed which reacts the reductant from the reductant slip of the first SCR catalyst with a nitrogen oxide. The first SCR catalyst is thus operated as a source of reducing agent.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
The method according to the invention serves to check a NH 3 cross-sensitive nitrogen oxide sensor which is arranged in a catalyst system between two catalysts. It includes creating an ammonia slip model of the first catalyst, creating a model of the nitrogen oxide concentration in an exhaust gas between the two catalysts, and checking the operability of the nitrogen oxide sensor by plausibility of its sensor signal with an ammonia concentration in the exhaust gas between the two catalysts determined from the ammonia slip model is, and a nitrogen oxide concentration in an exhaust gas between the two catalysts, which is determined from the nitrogen oxide model. The functional capability of the nitrogen oxide sensor according to the invention is understood in particular to mean that its absolute value deviation and its dynamic deviation lie within the limits prescribed by the OBD legislation.
The two catalysts are preferably independently selected from the group consisting of an SCR catalyst, a SCR on filter (SCRoF) catalyst, a barrier catalyst, an AMOX catalyst and a catalyst which promotes a reaction between NH 3 and NO x .
In a normal operation, in particular an SCR catalyst as the first catalyst, the signal of a functioning nitrogen oxide sensor corresponds due to its cross sensitivity to ammonia in particular substantially the sum of the ammonia concentration, which is determined from the Ammoniakschlupfmodell, and the nitrogen oxide concentration, which determined from the nitrogen oxide model becomes. If no fuel is supplied to an internal combustion engine in whose exhaust gas line the SCR catalytic converter is arranged, for example in a coasting phase of a motor vehicle, and thus no nitrogen oxide emissions are to be expected, the signal of a functional nitrogen oxide sensor corresponds in particular essentially to that of the ammonia concentration determined from the ammonia slip model becomes. Therefore, it is preferred that a defect of the nitrogen oxide sensor is detected if its sensor signal of the sum of the ammonia concentration in the exhaust gas between the two catalysts, which is determined from the ammonia slip model, and the nitrogen oxide concentration in the exhaust gas between the two catalysts, which from the nitrogen oxide model is determined, deviates at least by a predetermined threshold. It is particularly preferred to detect a defect in the nitrogen oxide sensor if the deviation occurs in a period in which the sum of the ammonia concentration in the exhaust gas between the two catalysts, which is determined from the ammonia slip model, and the nitrogen oxide concentration in the exhaust gas between the two catalysts is determined from the nitrogen oxide model, at least changes at a predetermined speed. Under a speed according to the invention, the quotient of a change in concentration and a change in time understood.
The ammonia slip model preferably takes into account a slip control of the first catalyst. This slip control can regulate the ammonia slip of the first catalyst in various ways. In one embodiment of the invention, depending on the temperature of the first catalyst, a first setpoint level characteristic is deposited in the slip controller above an ammonia slip limit of the first catalyst, and a second setpoint level characteristic is deposited below the ammonia slip limit. When a quantity of reducing agent is required by the second catalyst, the ammonia target level of the first catalyst is determined from the first desired level characteristic curve below an applicable threshold value, and when the ammonia quantity is requested by the second catalyst above the applicable threshold value, the initial ammonia level of the first catalyst is determined from the second desired level characteristic curve. In another embodiment of the invention, depending on the temperature of the first catalyst, a first desired level characteristic is deposited in the slip controller above an ammonia slip limit of the first catalyst, a second desired level characteristic is deposited below the ammonia slip limit, and a third desired level characteristic is stored on the ammonia slip limit. When a quantity of ammonia is demanded by the second catalyst below a first applicable threshold value, the ammonia target level of the first catalyst is determined from the first desired level characteristic curve; if an ammonia quantity is required by the second catalyst above the first applicable threshold value and below a second applicable threshold value, the initial ammonia level of the first catalyst is determined determined from the third Sollfüllstandskennlinie, and when requesting an amount of ammonia through the second catalyst above the second applicable threshold, the Ammoniaksollfüllstand the first catalyst is determined from the second desired level characteristic. In yet another embodiment of the invention, a first desired level characteristic above an ammonia slip limit of the first catalyst is deposited in the slip controller depending on the temperature of the first catalyst, a second Sollfüllstandskennline is deposited below the Ammoniakschlupfgrenze and optionally a third Sollfüllstandskennline is deposited on the Reduktionsmittelschlupfgrenze. Continuous control of the ammonia target level of the first catalyst is achieved by extrapolating a desired level between the desired level characteristics when an amount of ammonia is required by the second catalyst. In still another embodiment of the invention, in the slip controller, the ammonia target level of the first catalyst is a function of a demand of an ammonia amount by the second catalyst, the space velocity of the exhaust gas in the first catalyst, the conversion efficiency of the first catalyst, the temperature of the first catalyst, and the ammonia level of the first catalyst Catalyst calculated.
