Die Schneckenpresse ist in eine Einzugszone, Anwärmzone und Walz- oder Gelierzonen unterteilt. Die aufzubereitende Masse bewegt sich in der Einzugs- und Anwärmzone geradlinig und wird durch die walzenförmigen Knetkörper und daran anschließend durch das formgebende Mundstück der Schneckenpresse gepreßt. Hierbei ist es vorteilhaft, die walzenförmigen Knetkörper in axialer Richtung gegenseitig zu unterteilen, damit jeweils eine entsprechende Umleitung des Massestranges erfolgt und dieser gezwungen wird, durch den Mittelspalt und den Randspalt der Knetkörper hindurchzutreten. Vorteilhaft ist es auch, die walzenförmigen Knetkörper in mehrere Stufen mit verschiedenen Walzenspalten zu unterteilen.
