Abstract
一种使一无线远程终端(UE)能够经由一无线局域网络(WLAN)接入一通用移动通信***(UMTS)的方法,其中UMTS服务从一UMTS传接器被传输至一格式转换器,且该格式转换器于在WLAN模式中运作的UE的传输的前改变所接收的消息的格式为WLAN格式。

技术领域
本发明是关于无线通信。尤其是,本发明是处理WLAN-UMTS互通(interworking)。
背景技术
在无线局域网络(WLAN)环境下运作的通用行动***(UMTS)并且希望接入UMTSs的订户,例如移动站(UEs),可能遭受在那些区域内接入UMTSs时的成本的重大需求,当那些UMTS***接入需要大量成本时。
本发明提供一种不需要承受此种实质成本而接入UMTS的较低成本的方法。本发明***包括在WLAN***的下的一UMTS***。此UMTS被提供一个做为在WLAN环境内运作的UMTS用户的UMTS射频前端(front end)的用的传接器。UMTS***与用户(UE)之间的接口经由WLAN接口而被取得。
此WLAN***转换所接收的UMTS消息及/或预登录用户的话务(traffic)为将被传输给在WLAN环境下运作的用户的适合WLAN传输用的格式。此外,WLAN转换被传输的消息及通信流为UMTS格式,其随后藉由支持WLAN***的UMTS传接器被传输至该UMTS***。此WLAN用户使用翻译器经由UMTS空中接口而获得对UMTS接口的接入。

具体实施方式
图1表示可用以解释UMTS***12与WLAN***14之间的互通的设置。图1的设置将结合以UMTS为基础的服务传递用的技术而被描述,当一移动站,例如一远程终端,受到该WLAN***服务时。
参照图2,以及适当的图1,其表示类似图1的设置。
为简化的目的,仅表示出一移动站24,可以了解的是数个此种移动站由WLAN14服务。虽然此移动站远程终端(UE)24也可以是一种能够与WLAN及UMTS通信的双模式终端,为本发明的目的使用具有WLAN能力的终端24。
用户终端(UE)24,经由其WLAN能力24a,于步骤S1向WLAN14登录。随后WLAN14在步骤S2登录UMTS服务监视,与UMTS传接18通信用的用户识别(ID)。UMTS传接器18为任何对已登录的用户识别(ID)所宣告的服务而被调整。在步骤S3,当一UMTS服务,例如一呼叫(page),短讯服务(SMS),多媒体消息服务(MMS)或类似服务将被传递时,UMTS12传输此一服务,例如给予一呼叫消息。在步骤S4,UMTS传接器18,通常来自一射频塔26,经由UMTS空中接口28传输该呼叫消息至一接收射频塔30,至一格式转换器16,其于步骤S5转换目前的格式(UMTS)为WLAN消息格式,并在步骤S6以WLAN格式传递该呼叫消息至WLAN14。WLAN14在步骤S7传递该消息至移动终端24。在步骤S8从终端24传输一个响应至WLAN14,该响应在步骤9被传输至格式转换器16,并且在步骤S10从该处被传输至UMTS传接器18,最后在步骤S11传输至UMTS12。
图3表示类似图2所示的终端24,其经由其WLAN能力24a在步骤S1对WLAN14登录。WLAN14在步骤S2传输该用户登录至格式转换器16,其于步骤S3将该格式改变为UMTS消息格式,并且在步骤S4提供指向UMTS传接器18的UMTS分组切换(PS)UMTS附件。UMTS传接器18在步骤S5传输附加至UMTS12的UMTS PS。
此PS附加完成的消息在步骤S6从UMTS12被传输至UMTS传接器18,以及在步骤S7从UMTS传接器18传输至格式转换器16。在步骤S8格式转换器16改变该PS附加为WLAN消息格式,并且在步骤S9传递该消息至WLAN14,其于步骤10提供该消息至移动终端24。从终端24至WLAN14的响应在步骤S11发生,在步骤S12从WLAN14至格式转换器16,在步骤S13从格式转换器16至UMTS传接器18,以及在步骤S14从UMTS传接器18至UMTS12,藉此完成该响应。
Claims (12)
1.一种方法,其中一无线远程终端(UE)经由一无线局域网络(WLAN)接入通用移动通信***(UMTS),包括:
a)该UE,于一WLAN模式中,以该WLAN登录;
b)该WLAN为一UMTS服务监视的目的而以该UMTS登录该UE;
c)该UMTS,响应步骤(b),监视指向与该UMTS登录的该UE的UMTS消息;
d)该UMTS提供一UMTS服务至该WLAN;以及
e)该WLAN改变该UMTS服务的格式为一WLAN消息格式并传递该重新格式化的消息至该UE。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法,更包括:
f)提供一UMTS传接器以执行步骤(b)及(c)。
3.如权利要求1所述的方法,更包括:
f)提供一格式转换器做为该WLAN的一部份,用以接收该UMTS服务并改变该UMTS服务的格式为一WLAN消息格式,该格式转换器传递该重新格式化的消息至传输至该UE用的该WLAN。
4.一种在一无线局域网络(WLAN)内运作的一无线远程终端(UE)所使用的方法,用以接入一通用移动通信***(UMTS),包括:
a)该UE,于一WLAN模式中,以该WLAN登录;
b)该WLAN改变该登录消息的格式为一UMTS格式并传输该重新格式化的消息至该UMTS;
c)该UMTS接收该重新格式化的消息;
d)该UMTS响应来自该WLAN的消息的完成;以及
e)该WLAN改变该消息的格式为一WLAN消息格式并传输该消息给于该WLAN模式中运作的该UE。
5.如权利要求4所述的方法,更包括:
f)提供一格式转换器以执行步骤(e)的功能。
6.如权利要求4所述的方法,更包括:
f)提供一UMTS传接器以执行步骤(b)及(c)。
7.一种装置,其中一无线远程终端(UE)经由一无线局域网络(WLAN)接入一通用移动通信***(UMTS),包括:
该UE具有以该WLAN登录的装置;
该WLAN具有为一UMTS服务监视的目的而以该UMTS登录该UE的装置;
该UMTS包括响应该登录装置的装置,用以监视指向以该UMTS登录的UE的UMTS消息;
该UMTS具有提供一UMTS服务至该WLAN的装置;以及
该WLAN具有改变该UMTS服务的格式为一WLAN消息格式并传递该重新格式化的消息至该UE的装置。
8.如权利要求7所述的装置,更包括:
该UMTS登录装置包括一传接器。
9.如权利要求7所述的装置,其中该改变装置包括一格式转换器用以接收该UMTS服务并改变该UMTS服务的格式为一WLAN消息格式,该格式转换器包括用以传递该重新格式化的消息至传输至该UE用的该WLAN的装置。
10.一种在一无线局域网络(WLAN)内运作用以接入一通用移动通信***(UMTS)的一无线远程终端(UE)所使用的装置,包括:
该UE具有一WLAN模式并包含以该WLAN登录该UE的装置;
该WLAN包括用以改变该登录消息的格式为一UMTS格式的装置,以及用以传输该重新格式化的消息至该UMTS的装置;
该UMTS包括用以接收该重新格式化的消息的装置,以及用以响应来自该WLAN的消息的完成的装置;以及
该WLAN包括用以改变该消息的格式为一WLAN消息格式的装置,以及用以传输该消息至于该WLAN模式中运作的该UE的装置。
11.如权利要求10所述的装置,其中该改变用的装置包括一格式转换器。
12.如权利要求10所述的装置,其中该UMTS接收装置包括一传接器。
