本发明的技术背景
本发明一般涉及空气清洁器或空气过滤器，特别涉及具有圆筒形的、折褶的纸质过滤元件的空气清洁器，这种清洁器主要用于长途运输车辆和农用车辆。这些应用一般处于恶劣的过滤环境。
3,078,650号美国专利公布了一种这种类型的空气清洁器的现有技术结构，这种空气清洁器具有一管状金属壳体，而该壳体有一进口，供含尘埃的空气进入。圆筒形的打褶的纸质过滤元件安装在壳体内。一清洁空气出口与打褶的纸质过滤元件内腔连通。在打褶的纸质元件和出口之间必须提供密封，这样，含灰尘的气体将被迫通过过滤器上的打褶的纸质介质，由此，在气流离开过滤器前将灰尘从气流中除去。在′650号专利里，过滤元件和出口之间的密封是通过固定在过滤元件上的衬垫提供的。衬垫与管状壳体的端壁啮合，而过滤元件通过一卡箍和相关的螺钉螺母组件固定在位。
4,720,292号美国专利公布了另一种用于本发明所述类型的圆筒形空气过滤器的现有技术结构。在它的较佳实施例里，′292号美国专利中的空气过滤器的壳体是用塑料制成的，圆筒形的打褶的纸质过滤元件安装在壳体内。打褶的纸质元件有一与空气出口连通的开口端。过滤元件的开口端有一环形端盖，较可取的是用弹性体、诸如尿脘(氨基甲酸乙酯)泡沫材料制成，因它相当软、具有类似橡胶的密度。空气过滤元件安装在空气出口管上，并通过端盖与管状出口部件接合提供一密封。
为了制造使用塑料壳体的空气过滤器，一般需要制造壳体的模具。通常利用分体式模具来制造壳体，以适应其在尺寸上的改变和在空气进口位置上的改变。而供制造各种可能用途的空气过滤器的模具用的工具可能是相当昂贵的。
本发明的简介
本发明的空气过滤器包括一具有一敞口端和一空气进口的管状壳体。一端盖固定于并封闭着管状壳体的敞口端。该端盖有一延伸进入管状壳体内腔的圆筒形部分。过滤部件一般是圆筒形的，并具有内衬管、外衬管和在它们之间的过滤介质。过滤部件具有一用弹性材料制的端盖。该端盖有一进入过滤部件内腔的开口。该开口由一基本上是圆筒形的、径向向内的表面限定的，且该开口直径略小于延伸进入壳体的端盖的圆筒形部分的外径。过滤部件通过将端盖的出口部分***在过滤部件的端盖上形成的开口而固定在该端盖上。通过过滤部件的端盖和端盖的出口部分固定在壳体上而提供了一个密封。一罩盖可拆卸地安装于并封闭着管状壳体的第二端。
在较佳的实施例里，管状壳体是用适当的金属材料制的，而端盖是用模制塑料制的。金属壳体上设有若干环绕其第一端并向内突出的啮合件。塑料端盖具有若干形成于其上的凹槽，它们能接纳啮合件，从而将端盖固定在壳体上。
本发明还涉及一种制造本发明较佳实施例中的壳体的方法。它包括从金属材料形成一管状壳体的步骤，而该管状壳体具有第一和第二开口端，以及一空气进口。通过模制形成的塑料端盖具有一体形成的空气出口和在其外侧圆周上的若干凹槽。然后将该端盖***金属壳体的一端。啮合件形成于管状壳体上，并向内突出进入塑料端盖上的凹槽，从而使端盖固定在壳体上。

较佳实施例的描述
请参看附图，其中所有附图中相同的标号表示相同的部件，而图1公开了一种空气清洁或过滤器10。空气过滤器10大致是一管状壳体12，它具有第一端14和第二端16。在较佳的实施例里，壳体12是由适当的金属材料制成的。壳体12有一空气进口18，它限定一引导含灰尘空气进入过滤器10的开口20。一端盖22安装在壳体12的第一端14上，并如下面将详细描述的那样封闭着第一端14。端盖22有一大致平的环形底板24，底板24的外周缘上有一与其连成一体的、并位于壳体12内的环状件26。第二环状件28也与底板24一体形成并位于壳体12内。环状件26和28互相同心设置。与底板24一体形成的还有一在端盖22外表面上方延伸的空气出口30。空气出口有一延伸进入壳体12内腔的管状部分32。空气出口30限定了一开口34，已过滤的空气通过该开口离开空气过滤器10。
壳体12内安装着空气过滤部件36。空气过滤部件36是4,720,292号美国专利所描述的那种类型，这里将参考其中所公开的内容。这是一个圆筒形的部件，它有一个圆筒形的内衬管38和一圆筒形的外衬管40，且该两衬管均由多孔金属板制成。圆筒形的打褶的纸质过滤元件42安装在衬管38和40之间。部件36有一圆盖形的封闭端44，它是由模制在其上的尿脘(氨基甲酸乙酯)泡沫材料形成的，并相当软、具有类似橡胶的密度。封闭端44模制在衬管38和40、以及过滤元件42的端部上，并将它们连在一起，而且延伸通过过滤部件36的端部以提供一封闭端部。
空气过滤部件36有一靠近端盖22的敞口端。一模制的环形端盖46置于衬管38和40、以及打褶的纸质过滤元件42的端部上。端盖46最好是由弹性体材料、诸如由比较软的、具有类似橡胶密度的尿脘泡沫材料制成，这样，可将其作为密封或衬填材料来使用。端盖46有一径向向内的表面48，它适合与空气出口30上的管状部分32的外表面接合。表面48限定了一环状开口，该开口的内径略小于管状部分32的外径。这样，弹性体材料制的端盖46在表面48处被压缩，从而在端盖46和空气出口30之间提供可靠的气密封。空气过滤部件36的敞口端被夹持在管状部分32和第二环状件28之间，以便将空气过滤部件36适当地固定在壳体12内。

如图2和3较详细显示的，端盖22的环状件26上设有若干环绕其圆周的、隔开的凹槽60。而壳体12在第一端14处具有若干向内突出件62，它们与凹槽60相对应，并与凹槽60啮合，从而将端盖22固定在壳体12内。如前面所述的，在较佳的实施例里，端盖22是用塑料、诸如聚丙烯制成的，而壳体12是用金属制成的。可拆卸的罩盖50可是塑料的，也可是金属的。壳体12和端盖22是用下述方式制成的。金属壳体12是按照已知的现有技术中的工艺制造到合适的长度，并在适当的位置安上空气进口18。而端盖22是按照已知的模制工艺用塑料模制而成的。端盖22利用扣压摩擦接合的方法安装在壳体12的第一端14上。壳体12的第一端14在对应环状件26上的凹槽60的位置上被冲压或弯成向内凹进。金属冲压工艺形成了向内突出件62，它们被凹槽60接纳，从而使端盖22固定在壳体12上。空气过滤器10的进一步组装还包括将空气过滤部件36安装在壳体12内和装上罩盖50。
从上所述可知，本发明在较佳的实施例里使用了′292号专利里较先进的密封结构。壳体可利用金属成形工艺按照各种设计要求来制造，从而省却了为各种过滤器形状设计塑料模具的需要和费用。此外，这种密封结构消除了在3,078,650号美国专利中显示的空气清洁器里所使用的机械结构。
虽然已公开了本发明的一个较佳实施例，但应该明白，在不超出如附后的权利要求所限定的本发明的构思和范围的情况下还可作出相同的改进。

Claims (4)

1.一种空气过滤器，包括：
一管状金属壳体，具有含尘空气进口、第一和第二端；
一塑料端盖，具有圆筒形的空气出口件，其一部分延伸进入所述管状壳体，所述部分具有一外径；
将所述塑料端盖安装在所述管状壳体的所述第一端上的装置；
一圆筒形的过滤部件，包括过滤介质和支承所述介质的装置，所述过滤部件具有第一端和第二端；
所述过滤部件具有一在其第一端上的端盖，所述端盖由弹性材料形成，并具有一圆筒形的、径向向内的、限定一进入所述过滤部件内腔的开口的表面，所述开口具有小于所述出口件延伸进入所述管状壳体的所述部分的外径的直径，由此所述过滤部件安装在所述出口件的所述部分上，并在所述出口件的所述部分和所述过滤部件之间形成一密封；以及
用来封闭所述壳体的所述第二端的装置。
2.如权利要求1所述的空气过滤器，其特征在于，将所述塑料端盖安装在所述管状壳体上的装置还包括：
环绕所述管状壳体的所述第一端设置的、向内突出的诸啮合件，所述塑料端盖具有形成于其上的、能接纳所述啮合件的、以便将所述端盖安装在所述壳体上的诸凹槽。
3.一种制造供空气过滤部件用的壳体的方法，包括以下步骤：
利用金属材料制造一具有第一和第二开口端、以及一空气进口的管状壳体；
模制一塑料端盖，该端盖具有一空气出口，以及一其上有诸凹槽的圆筒形外表面；
将所述端盖***所述壳体的所述第一端；以及
在所述管状金属壳体上形成可向内突入到所述塑料端盖上的所述凹槽内的突出件，以使所述端盖固定在所述壳体上。
4.一种供圆筒形空气过滤部件使用的壳体，所述空气过滤部件具有一过滤介质，支承所述过滤介质的装置，以及一由弹性材料制成的、具有圆筒形的、径向向内表面的端盖，该表面限定一进入过滤部件内腔的开口，且该开口有一第一直径，所述壳体包括：
一管状金属件，具有含尘空气进口和第一和第二端；
一塑料端盖，具有圆筒形的空气出口件，该空气出口件的一部分延伸进入所述管状金属件，所述部分具有大于第一直径的外径，空气过滤器安装在其上，并在所述部分和端盖的向内表面之间形成径向密封；以及
封闭所述壳体的所述第二端的装置。
