A plurality of reinforcing ribs 19e that connect the lower end of the vehicle width direction outer wall 19a and the lower positioning portion 19d in the vehicle width direction are formed on the upper surface of the lower wall 19b of the door lower garnish 19.
The door lower trim 19 has a plurality of holders 19f formed between the upper positioning portion 19c and the lower positioning portion 19d, and these holders 19f are fastened to the concave portion 13b of the door outer panel 13 by a plurality of clips 28. The seal member 20 is interposed between the upper positioning portion 19c and the lower positioning portion 19d of the door lower trim 19 and the recess 13b of the door outer panel 13, respectively.
The side sill garnish 18 has a vehicle width direction outer wall 18a that forms an outer surface that can be visually observed from the outside of the vehicle, and the vehicle width direction outer wall 18a is composed of an outer wall upper portion 18b that is located on the upper side and covers the lower portion of the side sill outer member 23, and an outer wall lower portion 18c that is continuous with the lower portion of the outer wall upper portion 18b and covers the lower half portion of the reinforcing plate 22. The outer wall upper portion 18b and the outer wall lower portion 18c are most protruded outward in the vehicle width direction among the boundaries, the outer wall upper portion 18b extends upward while being curved in a convex shape inward in the vehicle width direction from the boundaries, and the outer wall lower portion 18c extends downward and inward in the vehicle width direction while being curved in a convex shape outward in the vehicle width direction from the boundaries.
The upper wall 18d extends from the upper end of the outer wall upper portion 18b of the side sill garnish 18 in the vehicle width direction inward, and a plurality of clip seats 18e protruding so as to straddle the outer wall upper portion 18b and the upper wall 18d are fastened to the protruding portions 23a formed in the lower portion of the side sill outer member 23 by a plurality of clips 29. At this time, the positioning portion 18f formed in the clip 18e is positioned in contact with the stepped portion 23b continuous with the convex portion 23a of the side sill outer 23. Further, a plurality of engaging seats 18g are provided at the vehicle width direction inner end of the outer wall lower portion 18c of the side sill garnish 18 so as to protrude upward, and the engaging seats 18g are fastened to the lower surface of the reinforcing plate 22 by a plurality of clips 30.
The lower edge of the door lower garnish 19, that is, the boundary between the vehicle width direction outer wall 19a and the lower wall 19b is offset outward in the vehicle width direction by a distance α (see fig. 2) from the upper edge of the side sill garnish 18, that is, the boundary between the outer wall upper portion 18b of the vehicle width direction outer wall 18a and the upper wall 18 d. Therefore, the upper surface of the upper wall 18d of the side sill garnish 18 is covered from above by the lower wall 19b of the door lower garnish 19 that spreads outward in the vehicle width direction.
The shape and structure of the front half of the door lower trim 19 and the side sill trim 18 of the front door 11 have been described above as the center, but the shape and structure of the rear half of the door lower trim 19 and the side sill trim 18 of the rear door 12 are substantially the same shape and structure symmetrical in the front-rear direction.
The front portion of the side sill garnish 18 extending downward of the front fender 14 beyond the front end of the front door 11 projects upward with the protruding portion 18h, and the rear portion of the side sill garnish 18 extending downward of the rear fender 15 beyond the rear end of the rear door 12 projects upward with the protruding portion 18h, and the outer surface in the vehicle width direction of these protruding portions 18h is smoothly continuous with the lower portion of the front fender 14 and the lower portion of the rear fender 15.
A parting line 31 between the upper edge of the protruding portion 18h of the front end of the side sill garnish 18 and the lower edge of the front fender 14, a parting line 33 between the upper edge of the door lower garnish 19 of the front door 11 and the rear door 12 located rearward of the parting line 31 and the lower edge of the door outer panel 13, and a parting line 32 between the upper edge of the protruding portion 18h of the rear end of the side sill garnish 18 located rearward of the parting line 33 and the lower edge of the rear fender 15 are arranged in a straight line when viewed in the vehicle width direction (see fig. 1).
Further, when viewed in the front-rear direction, the vehicle width direction outer wall 19a of the door under-trim 19 and the outer wall upper portion 18b of the vehicle width direction outer wall 18a of the side sill trim 18 recede inward in the vehicle width direction with respect to the vehicle width direction outer surface of the protruding portion 18h of the side sill trim 18 (see fig. 2), whereby the door under-trim 19 of the front door 11 and the rear door 12 and the outer wall upper portion 18b of the side sill trim 18 therebelow constitute a deep and shallow recess 34 (see a broken line in fig. 1) of a substantially triangular cross section extending in a band shape in the front-rear direction from the rear end of the front fender 14 to the front end of the rear fender 15.
As a result, a substantially triangular rearward vertical wall 18i facing the front end of the concave portion 34 is formed at the rear end of the front protruding portion 18h of the side sill garnish 18, and a substantially triangular forward vertical wall 18i facing the rear end of the concave portion 34 is formed at the front end of the rear protruding portion 18h of the side sill garnish 18.
Next, the operation of the embodiment of the present invention having the above-described configuration will be described.
When a small stone or the like is splashed from the road surface by a tire during running of an automobile and collides with the lower edge of the door outer panel 13 made of a steel plate, there is a problem in that the paint peels off and causes rust on the steel plate. However, according to the present embodiment, the lower portion of the door outer panel 13 is covered with the door lower trim 19, whereby damage to the door outer panel 13 due to collision with a small stone or the like can be prevented. The door lower trim 19 is made of synthetic resin, and thus is not liable to rust even if damaged by collision with a small stone or the like.
If the position of the lower edge of the door lower trim 19 is offset inward in the vehicle width direction relative to the position of the upper edge of the side sill trim 18 in the boundary portion between the lower edge of the door lower trim 19 and the upper edge of the side sill trim 18, a part of the upper wall 18d, which is the upward surface of the side sill trim 18, can be seen by the line of sight of a person standing near the vehicle, and there is a possibility that the boundary portion that does not reflect light and appears dark and the upper wall 18d that reflects light and appears bright are adjacent to each other and are conspicuous, causing visual interference and reducing the appearance.
However, according to the present embodiment, in the boundary portion between the door lower trim 19 and the side sill trim 18, the position of the lower edge of the door lower trim 19 is offset outward in the vehicle width direction by the distance α from the position of the upper edge of the side sill trim 18, and therefore the upward surface of the side sill trim 18, that is, the upper wall 18d, cannot be seen by the line of sight of a person standing near the vehicle, and the boundary portion becomes inconspicuous and improves the beauty.
The front and rear parts of the side sill garnish 18 have upwardly projecting portions 18h, and a parting line 31 between the upper edge of the front projecting portion 18h and the lower edge of the front fender 14, and a parting line 32 between the upper edge of the rear projecting portion 18h and the lower edge of the rear fender 15, and a parting line 33 between the upper edge of the door lower garnish 19 and the lower edge of the door outer panel 13 are arranged in a straight line, so that these parting lines 31, 32, 33 are continuous in a straight line so as to extend across the front fender 14, the door outer panel 13 of the front door 11, the door outer panel 13 of the rear door 12, and the rear fender 15, and the irregularities around the parting lines 31, 32, 33 become inconspicuous, thereby improving the appearance.
In particular, when the side sill garnish 18 and the under door garnish 19 made of resin are made of, for example, matt black, and the front fender 14, the door outer panel 13 of the front door 11, the door outer panel 13 of the rear door 12, and the rear fender 15 are made of a vehicle body color, one straight parting lines 31, 32, 33 are emphasized more, whereby the effect is improved.
Further, the door lower trim 19 and the outer wall upper portion 18b of the vehicle width direction outer wall 18a of the side sill trim 18 form a concave portion 34 having a triangular cross section with a depth that extends in a strip shape in the front-rear direction from the front side longitudinal wall 18i to the rear side longitudinal wall 18i of the side sill trim 18, and thus an appearance surface formed by the strip-shaped concave portion 34 is formed, and the appearance can be improved.
Further, since the offset boundary portion between the lower edge of the door lower trim 19 and the upper edge of the side sill trim 18 is disposed in the concave portion 34, the offset boundary portion can be made inconspicuous and the appearance can be improved.
The vehicle width direction outer wall 18a of the side sill garnish 18 has an outer wall lower portion 18c inclined to the outside in the vehicle width direction on the upper side, and an outer wall upper portion 18b continuous with the upper side of the outer wall lower portion 18c and inclined to the inside in the vehicle width direction, and the outer wall lower portion 18c is smoothly continuous with the front fender 14 located in the front and the rear fender 15 located in the rear, so that a continuous surface extending from the outer wall lower portion 18c of the side sill garnish 18 to the front fender 14 and the rear fender 15 is constituted to enhance the beauty.
Further, since the door lower trim 19 is fixed to the recess 13b formed in the lower portion of the door outer panel 13 to form a closed cross section, not only can the rigidity of the door lower trim 19 be improved by the closed cross section structure, but also the door outer panel 13 and the vehicle width direction outer wall 19a of the door lower trim 19 can be smoothly continued without a step, and an improvement in the appearance and a reduction in the wind resistance can be achieved.
Further, since the door lower trim 19 has an L-shaped cross section having the outer wall 19a and the lower wall 19b in the vehicle width direction, and the inner end in the vehicle width direction of the lower wall 19b is in contact with the peripheral edge fold-back portion 13a that joins the door outer panel 13 and the door inner panel 25, by increasing the length of the lower wall 19b in the vehicle width direction, not only the amount of displacement α of the lower edge of the door lower trim 19 to the outside in the vehicle width direction can be increased, but also the load that the door lower trim 19 receives due to the collision of small stones or the like can be reliably supported by the peripheral edge fold-back portion 13a that has high strength of the door outer panel 13.
Further, the door lower trim 19 includes an upper positioning portion 19c provided at an upper end of the vehicle width direction outer wall 19a and abutting against the stepped portion 13c provided on the door outer panel 13, a lower positioning portion 19d provided at an inner end of the reinforcing rib 19e formed at the lower wall 19b in the vehicle width direction and abutting against the door outer panel 13, and a clip 19f provided between the upper positioning portion 19c and the lower positioning portion 19d and supporting the clip 28 engaged with the door outer panel 13, and therefore, it is possible to achieve both improvement of the mounting accuracy and improvement of the mounting rigidity of the door lower trim 19 with respect to the door outer panel 13.
Further, since the height of the upper end of the skeleton of the side sill 17 formed by the side sill inner 21 and the reinforcing plate 22 is substantially equal to the height of the upper end of the door lower trim 19, by forming the recess 13b to which the door lower trim 19 is attached in the door outer panel 13, even if the vehicle width direction thickness of the lower portions of the front door 11 and the rear door 12 is reduced and the strength is reduced, the strength reduction can be compensated for by the strength of the skeleton of the side sill 17, and the side collision resistance performance can be ensured.
Further, since the reinforcing plate 22 of the side sill 17 has the bulging portion 22a that bulges outward in the vehicle width direction below the door under-trim 19 and the reinforcing member 24 is superimposed on the vehicle width direction inner surface of the bulging portion 22a, the strength of the side sill 17 can be increased by the reinforcing member 24 to more reliably ensure the side collision resistance.
While the embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention can be variously modified in design within a range not departing from the gist thereof.
For example, the present invention is not limited to an automobile having both the front door 11 and the rear door 12, and can be applied to an automobile having only the front door 11.
