Mais, si l'aiguille n (fig. le) comprise entre les -aiguilles W est gbaissée, lorsque les aL- guilles n' sont isolées et est ensuite amenéeà passer de bas en haut en ligne avec les autres ai guilles préalablement au tricotage du filk, lefil t est distribué ou entrelacé parmi les aiguilles n' n n', l'aiguille intermédiaire n passant en avant du fil1, comme cela est représentéà la fig. 9 età la fig. le;

Knitted stockings and process for its manufacture. The present invention relates to a knitted stocking and a process for its manufacture.
The stocking object of the invention has the particularity that its tubular body, established without seam, has at the rear a reinforced longitudinal part ,, forming a false seam, obtained by means of a additional yarn engaged with stitches of at least one row of knitting stitches on the inner side of the bottom.
The process for knitting this stocking is put into practice on a circular sorting machine and according to this process a temporary isolation is used, from the point of view of the normal knitting process, of have minus one of the needles of the needle crown of the machine and bring an additional thread to said needle in this isolation location so to have it caught by this one and to Engage with, stitches of normal knitting during a relative rotation between the needles and the place of soul born of said thread,
with a view to forming a reinforced part, forming a false seam, in the longitudinal direction of the bottom. A remarkable advantage of this process is that the knitted body does not undergo any weakening in texture by the false seam and that the formation of the false seam takes place in one operation in conjunction with the knitting.
In the drawings, given # .s to by way of example Fig. 11, and lq are, respectively, a schematic elevation of low heel to false seam according to the invention and a cross section of the part to false seam .
Fig.  lb, the to 1P  are diagrams showing means for forming the false seam; Fig. 2 is a partial side elevation and FIG.  3  a partial plan, of an example of a circular   knitting machine, allowing the process to be carried out; Fig. 4 is a plan, taken over a  with  cam crown of this machine, showing some of the  knitting  needles and a device for intermittent production of the knitting needle. false stitching;
Fig.  5  shows the detail, seen from below., Of a central plate of the said machine; Fig.  6  is a section along the line  6-6  of fig.  6;  Fig.  7  is a vertical section along the line  7-7  of fig. 4; Fig.  8  is a view showing how the   knitting needles are shaped;
Fig.  9  is a development of the cams  of  control of the 'needles of the machine, shown  to  as an example, under the conditions to give an operation according to the principle represented  in  in fig.  lb;  Fig.  10  represents a variant of a   knitting needle;
Fig. Il to 16 are diagrams in elevation , to larger scale, from parts to false seams with examples of engagement of the additional yarn with the knitted piece, as may be produced by the machine shown; Fig. 17 to 20 represent other examples in a similar fashion. engaging the additional yarn with the knitted piece; Fig. 21 to 25 show, in a similar fashion, still other examples of engagement of this additional yarn with the knitted piece.
In fig. there is shown a knitted stocking 8 whose tubular body is established without a sewn seam and comprises a section 'l (fig. 11 to 25) to < / B> thicker longitudinal part, forming a false seam 2, which must imitate the sewn seam characteristic of knitted articles to shaped flat, this false seam 2 being arranged to extend to < / B> through a part h reinforced in the transverse direction.
As can be seen in in fig. 11, some longitudinal rows of stitches, b, of the knitted section 1 are accompanied, in addition to the yarns k </ B > and s of which the knitting is composed, of an additional reinforcing yarn t, engaging with the knitted section 1, in the right of two longitudinal rows of b meshes and passing behind them, in the form of floating parts y y ',
located on the wrong side or inside of the -stitched section 1. Mie longitudinal row of normal stitches a 'is reserved between the rows of stitches b </ B > and the floating parts y y ' of the additional filter t are subjected to a certain tension so to bring out the row of middle stitches a ' to the way of a rib on the right side of the knitting, as shown to in fig. 111.
In the knitted piece shown to in fig. 11, the binding of the yarn 1 with the actual knitting is obtained by passing this yarn around the body yarn k , at each stroke in the rows of platinum stitches if slain between rows a and rows b.
As shown in 21 at the end ,. 13, a connection of the yarn t with the body yarn of the small knit also be made in the two rows of stitches flanks on either side of rows b and in this case, the floating parts y2 are shorter than the floating parts y and the texture is a little more compact.
When the false seam has to encroach on a narrower part of the bottom body, the texture shown in 23 to in fig. 15, with the rows of stitches b adjacent to one to the other, without a row of stitches between the binding of < I> fil t being the same as in the arrangement of fig.
In some cases the reinforcement yarn t can be tied with a row of stitches b only, as shown to in fig. 16, the yarn t in this case engaging with the body yarn Ic, passing around it in the two rows of plate stitches flanking the row b and floating, in Y ', from one course to the other.
The knitted stocking described above, y including the variants shown in fig. 12 and 14, which will be described later, is likely to be manufactured on machines for knitting tubular hosiery articles and we will; de- < / B> now write examples of how to make the stocking.
Turning first to Figs. lb, le, ld # 11, and 111 in le the case of a circular crown of needles, such as that indicated in n to in fig. lh # cooperating with a thread guide k 'for the body thread k, guide between which and the needles there is a relative rotational movement in the direction of the arrow head the needles take the yarn 7c and after that there is a relative transverse movement between previous loops of yarn k and the needles, to knit as usual.
Without hindering or interrupting the progress of this normal knitting, a device is provided for placing on the needles, in addition to their thread le loops, an additional thread wrap t put around the group of threads. guilles forming the rows of stitches b b and any intermediate row between these last, or, in the case of fig. 16, around the single needle forming the row of stitches b. For this purpose, it suffices to isolate the needles forming the rows of stitches b. needles n 'for example,
in a certain part of the relative rotational travel between the needles and a guide t 'for the additional yarn i placed at the place of this isolation. As shown to in fig. 1 ". One of the ways of isolating these needles is to lower, as shown in? V ', all the other n needles which are in the vicinity of the needles n' at the time of Perigagement of the latter with the thread t. The thread t can then pass over the other needles to float, following ropes or a diameter , across the crown of needles.
If desired, instead of operating in the manner just indicated, the same result can be achieved by raising the needles n 'above neighboring needles. As shown in Figs. 11, and lIc, if the thread t is able to be pulled and retrieved (recalled) at as - the needles do not retreat away from the guide t 'and move closer to it again, as happens if it is intended, for the thread t, an organ of regular spring wire return,
the thread will be passed around the isolated needle (s) n 'in a direction opposite to that of the relative rotation of the needles with respect to the thread guides, as represented by the arrows d - in fig. 1% ld # the.
The -thread t is thus taken on the corresponding needles and is to return to the thickest rows of (rows- stitches that it - which already have loops of the body yarn k)., in.
the desired position so that it falls with this previous loop of k yarn when all the needles have again taken up the k yarn in their hooks. The needles being -here ordinary à rocking needles, like -repi, é # -, felt, the thread 1 is led so to </ B > so that it falls, either by placing it under the open rocker after raising the needles to release the previous body thread loop or, as shown in fig. l # and 9, by leading the -thread 1 on the open-needle rockers W,
needles which are then raised as in iv'-, to bring their toggles above the yarn i and to towards their loops of thread of previous bodies. Knitting is then carried out again with the yarn of body k as in zo ', In the case of needles with beak at spring, the slow equivalent position for the wire t is obtained by preventing the wire < / I> t, when it is. passed around the needles, to enter the needle hook.
To produce the. knitting shown to in fig. 11, two.needles n 'being separated by an intermediate needle -n (fig. Le), we have:
- start this intermediate needle n in the same way as the needles n 'to receive the thread t in position so that it falls with the loop of thread of the previous body, the yarn i having passed under the rockers of the needles to scales shown, before resuming the ti-ï-ïcage with the yarn k </ I> and then engaging with yarn k in places only (the rows of platinum stitches between a and b) </ B > where it bypasses the needles (fig. le), the part of the thread t, taken on, the 'needles n' nn,
forming, after having fallen from these, the part of thread floating y ' slums - that the part of thread ti ried and recovered across the crown of needles to from the guide t 'f & me the floating yarn p'itr- tic y.
But, if the needle n (fig.  le)  between the-needles W is lowered, when the needles n 'are isolated and is then brought  to  pass from bottom to top in line with the other needles before knitting the yarn  k,  the   yarn    t  is distributed or interlaced among the needles n 'n n', the intermediate needle n passing in front of the yarn  1,  as shown  to  in fig.  9  and  to  in fig.  the;
the knitting with yarn k will then give the knitting shown in in fig. 13. If the needles are not adjacent needles, without including an intermediate needle as shown to in fig. Id, we obtain the knitting shown in in fig. 15. If Pon uses only one needle n ', the additional reinforcement thread is passed around this needle and fall we are thrown with the previous body thread loop,
the knitting then having a single row of thicker stitches b, as shown to in fig. 16, thread t, thrown and collected across the needle crown, floating in y8 from course to the other.
For the implementation of the above-described operations, a circular sorting machine is used, part of which is shown in FIGS. 2 to 9 and which comprises a cy- needle holder liner 260 for needles n of the usual construction.
In ordinary machine operation, relative movement in the direction of the arrow N, between the needle cylinder 260 and the cam holder 271 (fig. 9 and 4) on which the usual knitting cams 357 360, 361 are placed results in raising or lowering the needles to knit the usual plain knit,
in which a new course of loops is formed at each passage of all the 361. needles As in front of this are the stitching cams shown in fig. 360 9 and ' ily the knitting can be done in this way to in line with each of the needles,
to in turn, with yarn of body k. Needles n are, as shown, needles to < / B> seesaw of the ordinary arrangement, some of which (see fig. 4 and 8), have long n3 heels and some others with shorter n 'heels, with the usual purpose of allow one of the sets of needles, those to long heels for example, to be put out of action and out of the reach of one any of the cams 357, 360 and 361 during back and forth knitting, as for the heel and toe pockets,
on needles to short heels ië. The needles still contain the predetermined group of needles n 'which are actuated differently from the remaining needles, to which effect the needles of said group are provided with heels shorter than those of the other needles.
The needles which have been operated to knit for example to the place of the cam 360, are brought back, when leaving the latter, to an intermediate level 40, in which their rockers are not released through through the previous body yarn loops on these needles, so that, to knit, these needles must be lifted before receive yarn and before being lowered to a point lower than intermediate level 40, for the purpose of knitting.
The machine also includes means cooperating with a movable thread guide s' to reinforcing thread to force the needles to shorter ta lons n2 , to take in addition to the body yarn k, when knitting them at the right side of the cam 360, < / B> an additional reinforcing thread s, the means which co-operate with the reinforcing thread guide s' being such as to oblige this guide to remove the reinforcement thread s above the passing needles, except when the needle group which is to receive the reinforcement thread passes in front of the thread guide, the thread reinforcement being by this means, obliged to float across the crown of needles,
from one end to the other of the group of needles n ', following a diameter, or substantially a diameter, of the needle crown.
The k body yarn is also supplied by a movable Y yarn guide and this yarn can be replaced by another or more other yarns, stronger, for example, by withdrawing the thread guide k 'from its active position shown to in fig. 9 and bringing to its place a thread guide k ', we k5, carrying one or more other threads, in the active position to provide thread </ B> to the hooks of the needles. The yarn guide k4 may for example be the one placed in the active position during knitting the heel and the end of the foot.
The devices for actuating these interchangeable thread guides comprise a series of push bars 460 (fig. 2) actuated by control cams provided on a tarabour-boss 120, rati intermittently over a complete revolution for example. , during the making of each stocking.
The movement of the reinforcing yarn guide, for its activation and deactivation during each revolution of the needle cylinder 260, can be produced, as usual, by a cam 296 rotating with said cylinder and acting on an ear provided on that of the bars 460 which cooperates with the thread guide s'.
We said above that we isolated from the knitting needles a group of needles n 'to receive the additional thread 1. In the arrangement shown, in one place of the crown to cams 271 following 1.9. meshing cam 360, the guide level 40 has a recess 41 in which all needles n, to except those of needle group n ', can be lowered below their normal level of inictivity on guide level 40.
All the needles which are at level 40 before recess 41 have, on their open scales, loops of thread k intertwined with a previous fallen course. . to the right of cam 360, Ainqi, all needles to 1 * 'e # ception of needles n', can be lowered to 4t without throwing or falling their last loop.
To lower all the needles to with the exception of needles n ', the machine is provided with an auxiliary cam 100, at my , carried by re-entry and exit, a curved arm springing 101 with a hanging ear 102 (fig. 9 and 7) determining the of retracted position of the cam 100 under the action of the spring arm 101, with respect to to the cam crown 211.
The spring arm 101 is secured to the crown 271 at a point relatively far from the cam 100, at </ B > el). right of the screws 103 (fig. 4) * The cam 100 is bevelled at the bottom, at its front end 105, to form a descending ramp from the tines to to be met by the heels of the wings to down, and its rear face end is bevelled from inside out to 106 (fig. 4) so that the arm 101 and the cam 100 can yield from inside out, during the relatively inverse movement of the parts,
when the bevel end of the tee 106 is met by a needle of any heel length, moving at level 40. By these means, the cam 10 0 is made active to lower said needles the to as they meet it in the direction of. the N arrow only.
Normally, the cam 100 occupies an output position, as shown in fig. 4 and 7, where it forces the ramp at its anterior end 105 to meet and to lower all the needles , to with the exception of needles not having the shortest heels. These needles do not pass through of the face of the cam 100, at the normal level 40 and are therefore in a higher position than the other needles throughout. 'extent of the recess 41.
The additional yarn t is provided by the movable yarn guide t, during the formation of the desired predetermined part of the bottom only, a action '< / B> automatic deriving its control from the boss drum 120 to control the activity and inactivity positions of the mobile guide i '.
Turning now to Figs. 2, 3 and 9, the thread guide t "consists of a thin elastic band, made of metal, in which openings are formed passage for the wire and which is secured to one of the ends of an elbow T pivoting lever, at 554, on the same axis as the other guide levers - son k ' k 4 k' s.
A spring normally lifts the gu ' ide t', the end at rear- the of the lever T being, then located above a 'bar t4, guided in a way ' to able to perform an upward and downward movement in a hole of a plate t 'secured < B> to a fixed part of the inachine. The lower end of the bar l ' is received in a notch C of one of the push bars 460,
for example the one used to operate the k thread guide 4 for the heel and toe thread . The lever T and the guide t 'can then be lowered giving to said bar 460 a further upward movement above the suitable range of movement to disable the operation. member or part usually actuated by it, such as for example the thread guide k 4 .
A this effect, as shown, there there are outside the cams 501 provided on the drum 120 to put the thread guide k4 out of position activity, -a higher cam key part 502, provided on the same circumference of cams, to bring the lever T and the guide i '< / B> in the active position in another predetermined part key to the knitting operation. The t4 bar is easy to remove from the machine.
The lever T is formed so to bring the thread guide 1 ', which it carries, substantially in the desired relative position with respect to to </ B > the needle crown, to the cam 100, to the recess 41 and to the other thread guides, position which is shown in figs. 3, 9 and 11, to 1P. As best seen in Figs. 3 and 9, the guide t 'is arranged to deliver thread t below the path crossed by the hooks of the needles moving at the normal level 40.
To allow access to the wire guide t \ when it is in this position, a discontinuity or interval d is provided in the internal cylindrical surface of the scale guard crown usual 550. A movable closing crown 565 is provided with one or opening 62 to receive the thread guide i ' and bevelled tips 63 to bridge gap 4, when some of the needles are raised for back and forth knitting.
- Whenever the cam 100 is in its normal position, the needles are not isolated from the others, at the place of this cam while remaining at their normal level, so that Pes a # iguif1es receive 'the yarn i lo # psqt # they pass the yarn guide i , the remaining needles having descended the ramp 105 of the cam and being lowered in the recess 41.
None of the needles, except except for the needles W, do not meet the thread 1. This phase of operation is represented by the diagrams of fig. 11, to 1P. In fig. lh for example, we have re presented cry I a group of needles not approaching the thread guide t '.
These needles, having taken the thread 1 in their hooks, pass to position II, the thread i extending in an increasing chord of crown of needles and being pulled in the direction of the arrow g until it extends across a diameter of the crown of 'needles, as shown to in fig. 1-. During the remainder of the relative movement of the needle group n ', with respect to the yarn guide 1', the yarn t is retrieved to through the thread guide t 'in the direction of the arrow y' (fig. 111).
The needles are also not used for knitting with the body yarn k to the right side of the cam 360, in a normal way. It will be noted that the thread 1 was taken on these needles, in their hooks or on their open flip-flops, but that, before to the reception of the body thread k for a new knitting stroke, the needles n 'have been lifted, together with the other needles,
cry passing to the upper surface of the cam 361 and thereby left the wire t below their flip-flops open so that the wire 1 is in the position of the knitted loops of the last course of stitches. This ensures that the thread t will be discarded from the needles W without being intertwined by them.
With regard to fig. 11, the only engagement of the yarn t ', thus received by the needles n' which knit the rows of mail the needles b a '</ I> b ,. in said figure, is the one it has with the yarn of the rows of platinum stitches located between the rows of stitches b and the rows of stitches a of the knitted body .
The continuation of the revolution of the needles n 'with respect to the thread guide t' produces a continuous wrapping of the -thread f, around the needles n 'in a direction counter to the direction of rotation of the needles, as represented by the arrow iv to in fig. 1-. A the right side of the knitting stitch? T) - ', in each revolution, this enveloping part is thrown over the needle head, being followed by another turn, before the needles pass through n ', during the next revolution, at the location of the cam 360.
The part of yarn 1 which is recalled and recovered during each revolution appears, in the knitting, in the form of the floating part y (fig. 11) , extending from its point of engagement with body yarn k in one of the rows of chain stitches to the point of engagement of yarn </ I> t with another row of platinum stitches, beyond the rows of needle stitches b a '</ I > b, corresponding to needles n ', in the following stitch course.
On the other hand, the part of the thread t, which was on the face or side of the hook of the needles does not pass them in front of the thread guide t ' and was subsequently discarded from these needles, extends to the wrong side of the knitting, as shown at y 'to in fig. 11.
If, during the installation of the yarn reinforcement 1, the cam 100 is adjusted so that all the needles, including the needles n ', are lowered in the recess 41 when passing in front of the - thread guide t', the reinforcing thread i will not be received by any of the needles and it will float across of the course (s) of intervening stitches of the yarn of body k, as shown for example in y4 to in fig. 12 for an intervening stitch race.
If the reinforcing yarn t undergoes, outside of the return effect, still a forced tension effect, for example by to the use of a device of tension established to this effect, the rows of stitches b a ' b of the knitted body will be tightened or gathered , or brought to protrude on the surface of the knitting.
Although we have just described the installation of the thread of reinforcement t by means of a group of three needles n ', it goes without saying that the number of these needles can vary according to - whether wants the reinforcement or false seam to encroach on a larger or larger number of rows of stitches in the knitting; one could also use one, two or ten needles W. In each case, the relative rotation of the needle ring with respect to the thread guide t 'has the effect of winding the yarn 1 around the or - of needles n 'and throw it away, with the loop of the previous course, in ordinary knitting to < / B> the location of the cam 360.
When it is desired to form a reinforced section in the knitting, as shown at h to in fig. 11, the thread guide has lowered to an active position during the change from needle group to short heels n ' , the guida-yarn s' being brought from bottom to top, during the passage of the remaining needles, to determine the installation of the diametral floating parts of the wire </ B> s shown in fig. 10 and 1P as usual.
In this figure eight, while knitting the bottom parts which are not reinforced, the yarn s may, as is known, be pinched, as in 7 (fig. lh), on a disc 5 covering a central plate 4, the thread guide being inside the crown of 'needles. Under these conditions, the floating part of the wire i (fig. 111) is free to pass under the central plate 4 without meeting the wire s .
In fig. 5 and 6, there is shown the central plate 4 provided with Lin conical boss 3 and a notched peripheral part 20, capable of to guide the floating part of the wire t below the respective parts 3, -4 and 5. Tray 4 rotates in in unison with the needles in the direction of the arrow to in fig. 5 and as its notched part 20 extends behind the position of the needles, the floating part of the yarn 1 can easily pe - </ B > enter under tray 4. .
If now the thread guide s' has moved from the position where it is shown to in fig. lh at the position o-at it is represented at in fig. 111, to begin to supply your thread to the head needle of the group of needles to short heels n2, we will notice that the wire t will not meet the reinforcement wire s,
the needles n 'and the yarn t coming to occupy the successive positions shown in FIGS. Iky 1- and ln. The thread t which is on the needles will not have been left under their scales at point 361 (fig. 1111) and the yarn s will have been taken in the hooks of these needles to be knitted by them at point 360. < / B> Shortly after the time indicated in in fig. Jh # where the thread guide has returned to the inactivity position,
we see that the needles n ' pass the thread guide t', so well before the floating part had thread s < / I> cannot reach this one. The yarn s comes out of the knitted part with respect to a yarn or dropped course dying out at back of the needles in a relatively low position. The floating part of thread s therefore penetrates under thread 1 as shown in in fig. 111, and the latter continues to stay above the aunt floating part of the thread s, like this is represented to in fig. P.
The children s 1 continue to pass successively as in fig. ln, 10 and 1P respectively, as long as the reinforcement wire t is provided.
It is not necessary that all the needles be adjacent to each other. The needle used to knit the row of stitches of needles a2 (fig. 13), small, for example, be one of the short size needles to size 2 . In this case, the passage of this particular needle î, 2 au. level 40, after it has passed through the recess 41 brings the needle n 'forward of the development of the thread t received by the other needles ii', as shown to in fig. the.
In this case, the thread t passes to the wrong side of the sorting cot in each of the rows of stitches b formed on said needles n ', killing it is only engaged 'with the rows of plate stitches flanking the respective b rows on either side.
The formation, in knitting, of the false seam 2 begins and ends with the raising of the yarn guide t 'cry and out of the active position, as determined by the position and extent. of the cam part 502 of the boss drum (fig. 2).
When the push bar 460 leaves the end of this hull, the wire t is withdrawn from bottom to] up, after which the rotation from its point of connection to the knitting forces this yarn to pass over the plate 5, as shown to in fig. 3, until the end of the thread 1 is received under the thread clamp 7 and cut by the thread cutter < B> 16 of the usual genre.
As shown to in fig. 111, the false seam 2 begins with -example at a point below the bottom hem in the rear part of it and ends above said heel.
The arrangement of the organs by lesqnels the yarn 1 is engaged with the row (s) of stitches to to reinforce the knitting without penetrating into the knitted stitch loops allows the knitting to be executed without providing means for increasing the the thickness of the stitches in the rows of stitches knitted by the needles used to form the false seam.
The yarn t may be in such conditions that while producing the appearance of a false seam, it goes virtually unnoticed as it is hidden by the loops of the yarn k < / I> or children Ic and s. He little. differ, as genre or as quality, from any of the others sons.
In some cases (when one wants to better enhance the appearance of a sewn seam title), the thicker knitted part of the stocking body, acting as a false seam, can be established with portions released in the same way to look a lot like a sewn seam. In as regards figs. 12 and 14, these represent, at 20 and 22, the respective knitted pieces shown in FIGS. 11 and 13, but with the thicker part loosened- in places, this clearance being obtained by forcing the additional wire i to not engage with the body yarn in less than one course of stitches of the body knitted,
course which is denoted by x, the yarn 1 floating in y4 while knitting this stitch course. A this kind of clearance can be produced for example by moving the thread guide t 'so to bring it out of the reach of the isolated needles W, at predetermined intervals, yes by forcing the means used to isolate said needles to to become inactive, or even by lowering the isolated needles out of the reach of the thread 1.
These are the insulating means of the needles îz 'which will be adjusted here with a view to said intermittent release, the cam 100 being hand held at its normal exit position for three or four successive coiirs and being allowed to move from out to in, to lower all the needles, during a following lesson.
A suitable device to this effect is shown to in fig. 4, in which a lever 420, pivoting at a distant point, not shown, above and to the right of the figure, is brought to, to rest on side against a lateral pin 107 of the cam 100, so that the cam 100 is withdrawn in the extended position to let the needles without lowering them. It is the normal position of the organs which corresponds to the laying of the additional wire t. The lever 420 being withdrawn at determined intervals in the direction of the arrow f allows the cam 100 to enter for the desired number of courses to additional thread clearance.
The means for thus operating the lever 420 are known and need not be described in further detail here. When lever 420 is removed, the spring arm 101 moves cam 100 as far inward as is allowed by lug 102. In this position, all the needles are lowered by the cam 100; but this is without effect on the knit formed from the body yarn k.
In case A one does not want intermittent operation of the needle isolating means, at intervals of only a few courses, the ear 102 can be bent so to always limit the cam 100 to a retraction movement just sufficient to make it lower all the needles, with except the needles n ', and we will not need to use the lever 420 #, we do well this lever can be left in the position shown.
The thicker part of the bottom, forming a false seam, can also be carried out in a way that has not been described above. Thus, for example, FIGS. 17 and 19 represent a continuous thick part 2- and fig. 18 and 20, a thick part with intermittent releases 2 which differs from the texture of figs. 11, 13 or 16 or of fig. 12 above, with regard to the specific binding of the thread t with the thread of body k (or the threads Ic and s in the portions reinforced with knitting).
In fig. 17 and 18, the yarn t is arranged to connect rows of stitches needles b separated by a row of normal needle stitches a 'and the rows of stitches b being connected by floating parts aunts yy, </ B> under any desired tension to project the row of stitches at 'beyond the surface of the knitting. The yarn t, as shown, instead of just being laid around the loops of rows b, is here entwined in these with the yarn < / B> body k yes both with body k and reinforcement wire s.
The stitches of the rows of stitches b are therefore formed at both of a 'loop of yarn k </ B> between laced and a loop of intertwined yarn t . In some cases, see fig. 19 and 20, a single row of needle stitches b ' or b ", can be formed in this way from stitches to < / B> loops of yarn k and t intertwined and,. If one I wish, the texture can be to </ B > intermittent releases by forcing the wire i to float as in r in the course x '(fig. 18) on in the course X "(fig. 20).
To thus incorporate in the rows of stitches b Y or V the additional thread t, the loops of these rows. can be al lengthened in any known manner, such as, for example, by knitting them on a or. needles n 'which are shorter, from the heel to the hook, than the normal needles n, as shown in fig. 9 and 10.
the additional thread t is applied to la on to the selected needles n 'during their temporary isolation obtained as already described. To ensure the result shown in fig. 17 to 20, the additional yarn is provided to this needle (s) in the same relation to the previous courses and to the hooks, flip flops and other parts of the needles that the main or body yarn k, so that it is only discarded with the next body loop.
Turning now to FIG. If the yarn of body Ic, supplied in Y, small to be formed in the body of knit 1 by a stroke Iv 2 zu for advancing and retreating the needles, the wire k entering the hooks of the needles n after the partial retreat of these in îv 13, and before they are completely removed in iv. Needles ïi 'may be isolated in any way desired to allow them to take the </ B> yarn k normally and receive a wrap of yarn t. As.
this is represented, it is allowed to the needles n 'to maintain themselves in advanced position in 102 and they are then recalled, in IV12 1, cry line with the other needles, the gtiide- wire i ' for the wire 1 being placed in the region of their isolation. Intermittent breakouts in the texture, as shown in figs. 18 and 20, are ensured either by moving the thread guide t ', or by forcing the sharpeners W to to be soft seen in the same way as the others to one or more of tricotaoe courses.
Other ways of proceeding and knitting variations are shown in in fig. 19 and in fig. 21 to 25. In this case, the additional yarn t is intertwined, independent, intermediate yarn mail, with the mids of the body yarn of the rows of stitches of special needles that are reinforced to give the appearance of a false seam.
The knitting 'comprises a body B which is knitted in a body yarn k, in any customary manner, and in which the rows of needle stitches a are normal rows having a loop in each successive course, 1, 3, 5, etc., extending all around the knitting.
In one or more rows of b stitches chosen to be reinforced, the yarn t is interwoven with a loop of yarn </ B > Here we have these rows, in each successive course, the loops of the thread t constituting in this row or these rows b, a course of intercalated mesh 2, 4, 6, etc., the loops of which are, to in turn, crossed by the loops of yarn of body of the following courses 3, 5, 7, etc.
The extra yarn 1 does not extend transversely to the width of the knitting, but floats behind the row (s) of stitches b of a course to Pother, in the form of floating parts y (fig. 21) or y "</ I> (fig. 22). When two or more rows b are adjacent as to in fig. 22, the loops of the same course of thread 1 are connected by parts of stitches y ' of said yarn t, and the floating parts y " of this one are more extensive and make a greater angle with the horizontal than said y 'parts.
The reinforcement in the rows of small b mail should not be continuous, but, as shown to in fig. 23, have intermittent undercuts, the front knitting in the rows of stitches b, to the course 15, of the normal loops of the yarn k </ B> only, the yarn t floating, cry y, of the last additional course 14, in said ran from thread 1, in the following additional course 17 from thread t.
In some cases, and as shown in to in fig. 24, where the additional yarn i is not interlaced in one or more courses 15, 16 of the yarn of body, this i thread can be. wrapped up with one or more of the courses in which it is not intertwined, as shown in c c in course 16, on yarn t passing behind, the rows of stitches b in the form of a floating part y4 and being interlaced cry 17 with the normal loops of the k yarn of course 16.
In some cases, as shown in to in fig. 25, the knitting of additional yarn in the form of stitches in intermediate courses 21, 24, 9-6, < / B> etc., may have clearances ,.
in course 22, for example, from thread of body k, the thread 1 flo - # - both in y '< / B> and following, in course 23, the thread loops of this course, so to y fer- nier, with those here, loops of yarn double d through which the body yarn Ic dries up that the additional yarn ts # is loosened in the yarn loops body k of the previous course 23.
The : yarn t is supplied to the needles not in accordance with the wrapping phase of the knitting method described above. As regards the fig. 19, the needles can not only be raised, for example in zu'O, to open their scales and receive the thread t in t 'and, to from there,
be needed from top to bottom to knit in k 2 # n1. 9 the ramp if), these needles and the remaining needles being actuated as usual with hard thread k, provided by the yarn guide k ', to the main knitting stroke kl.
When it is desired to make clearances in the texture, the needles are not operated at one or more passes of the thread guide - one does indeed when the needles W </ B > are, for one of the courses, raised in ivio, but rie are not lowered cry iv, the result is the knitting shown in in fig. 24, while, when the W needles are raised in it:
11, insufficiently Fear Open their scales, but enough to always take thread 1 for the course to clearing, we obtain the texture represented to </ B > fig. 25.
