Description
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile by reacting 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile with potassium fluoride. 2,6-Di-fluorobenzonitrile is a useful intermediate for various agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals or dyes.
Processes for the preparation of 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile have already been described in which the chlorine atoms of the 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile are substituted by fluorine atoms; see e.g. J. Chem. Soc., Chem. Comm., 1965, pages 430-431, and Journal of Organic Synthetic Chemistry Association, volume 27, page 175 (1969). These processes require that the reactions be carried out in the presence of a solvent such as dimethyl sulfone or dimethyl sulfoxide. The decomposition of the solvent leads to the formation of substantial amounts of decomposition products which are difficult to separate and which make work-up difficult. It is also necessary to use a large amount of such a solvent. On the other hand, it is currently extremely difficult to recover the solvent. The known processes are therefore economically disadvantageous, and it has proven desirable to develop an industrially advantageous process which can replace the conventional processes.
Genauer gesagt, wird mit der vorliegenden Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von 2,6-Difluorbenzonitril durch Extensive studies have been carried out by the inventors with the aim of avoiding the disadvantages of the above-mentioned methods. It was found that the desired product can be obtained in good yield by carrying out the reaction under pressure even if no solvent was used. Based on this discovery, a new and industrially advantageous process has now been invented. More specifically, the present invention accomplishes a process for producing 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile
Reaction of 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile with potassium fluoride created, which is characterized in that the reaction of 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile with potassium fluoride is carried out in the absence of a solvent at a temperature of 5 200 to 450 ° C under pressure.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of preferred embodiments.
The process according to the invention can be carried out by feeding 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile and potassium fluorine into a closed container, such as an autoclave, and heating and stirring the mixture.
The potassium fluoride to be used in the present invention may be an ordinary, commercially available product or a finely powdered product. It is generally used in an amount of 0.8 to 2.0 times, preferably 1 to 1.5 times and in particular 1.2 to 1.5 times, the theoretical molar amount required for the Reaction with 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile is required, ie the theoretical molar amount required to replace the chlorine-20 atoms of 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile with fluorine atoms. The reaction temperature is generally 200 to 450 ° C, preferably 250 to 400 ° C and in particular 300 to 400 ° C, especially 330 to 350 ° C. The reaction time is generally 0.5 to 20 hours. The pressure in the closed reactor can be a spontaneously occurring pressure due to heating under closed conditions and is generally from about 3 to about 25 kg / cm 2. Further, the air in the closed reactor may be replaced with an inert gas to prevent oxidation, or the pressure may be raised to a level higher than the above-mentioned pressure range to prevent polymerization.
From the reaction product thus obtained, the 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile as the aimed product 35 can be obtained with high purity and in good yield by subjecting the reaction product to the ordinary separation or purification treatment or without such treatment. Furthermore, a partially fluorinated product remaining in the reaction products can be recovered by a suitable separation method such as distillation and recycled for reuse.
The following examples illustrate the invention without restricting it.
45 Beispiel 1 45 Example 1
Demzufolge beträgt der Gehalt an 2,6-Difluorbenzonitril 99% (Ausbeute 83%). 111.8 g of 2,6-dichlorobenzo-nitrile (purity 96%) and 108.8 g of potassium fluoride are placed in a 500 ml autoclave equipped with a pressure indicator (manometer), a stirrer and a thermometer. The Auto-50 klav is closed. The air in the autoclave is then replaced by dry nitrogen gas. The temperature is gradually raised to an internal temperature of 350 ° C with stirring. Then the reaction is continued for 3 hours. During the implementation, the maximum pressure is 55 14.3 kg / cm2. When the reaction is complete, the autoclave is cooled and the product is collected at a temperature in the range of 200 ° C. by means of a distillation device which was previously attached to the autoclave. 73.0 g of an oily product are obtained (bp 81 60 to 83 ° C / 13 mmHg). This oily product is analyzed by gas chromatography. Accordingly, the content of 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile is 99% (yield 83%).
