La fig. 1 est une vue en élévation d'un tel appareil;
la fig. 2 est une coupe d'un détail suivant la ligne Il-Il de la fig. 1;
la fig. 3 est une coupe suivant la ligne III-III de la fig. 1;
la fig. 4 est une coupe analogue à celle de la fig. 3, illustrant une utilisation de cet appareil;
The present invention relates to a method for producing a cam that can be used in an apparatus intended for producing, by machining, a part with a non-circular surface, this apparatus comprising a work-holder element on which the part is fixed. to be machined, driven in rotation while being able to move laterally in all directions relative to its axis of rotation, also comprising three cams integral with the part-holder element, one of which is circular, and three support rollers whose axes are fixed, said cams being shaped and their relative position being such that they remain permanently, during the rotation of the workpiece carrier element, in contact with their respective support roller, all so that the workpiece while working, facing a cutting tool which acts on it,
a combined movement of rotation and lateral translation allowing the tool to machine a non-circular surface, said method having as its aim the production of a cam usable in place of one of said cams.
This method is characterized by the fact that a blank of the cam to be produced is fixed in place of one of said cams, replaces the roller cooperating with this cam by a rotary cutting tool arranged so that its active zone is located at the actual location of the active area of the roller that has been replaced, exerts a lateral pressure on the workpiece holder so as to apply the circular cam against its roller and the cam blank against the tool rotary cutting, fixed, at the location of the workpiece holder element intended to receive the workpiece with a non-circular surface, a jig constituting the negative of the workpiece by means of the cam made on the device, replaces the cutting tool with a key arranged so that its position corresponds to that of the cutting tool,
and operates the apparatus thus transformed until the jig is in continuous contact with said key, thereby producing said copying cam.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of an apparatus allowing the production, by turning, of a part with a non-circular surface and illustrates a mode of use thereof.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of such an apparatus;
fig. 2 is a sectional view of a detail taken along the line II-II of FIG. 1;
fig. 3 is a section taken along line III-III of FIG. 1;
fig. 4 is a section similar to that of FIG. 3, illustrating a use of this device;
fig. 5 is a section, similar to that of FIG. 2, illustrating this same use of the apparatus, and
fig. 6 is a section, similar to that of FIG. 3, illustrating another use of the apparatus.
The apparatus shown comprises a doll 1 in which is mounted rotatably, by means of bearings 2, a quill 3 provided with a pulley 4 serving to drive it by a belt and a motor, not shown. The workpiece, in the example shown a watch case 5, but which may consist of any non-circular part, is fixed to a clamp 6, the clamping and loosening of which are ensured by a rod 7 passing through the quill 3. This clamp is mounted at the end of a part-holder element constituted by a barrel 8 having, at its rear end, a flange Sa whose edge is circular.
The flange Sa is clamped between two rings 9 and 10, the first of which is made angularly secured, by rollers 11, to a flange 12 engaged on the front end of the quill 3. The ring 10 is pressed towards the flange Sa by four tie rods 13, only one of which is visible in FIG. 3, which make the ring 12 angularly integral with the quill. These tie rods 13 pass, with clearance, circular openings 14 formed in the flange 8a, which is made angularly integral with the ring 9 by rollers 15.
It should be noted that the V-shaped grooves formed in the ring 9 and in the flange 12 to receive the rollers 11 are perpendicular to the plane of FIG. 3 of the drawing, which allows the ring 9 to move sideways in one direction, the
openings 16 of this ring crossed by the tie rods 13 being
formed by elongated passages directed perpendicularly
in the plane of FIG. 3. As for the grooves in the flange Sa
and in the ring 9 for the rollers 15, they are parallel to the plane
of fig. 3, which allows the flange Sa to move relative to
to the ring 9 perpendicular to the direction of movement
thereof with respect to the flange 12. This arrangement is thus
the equivalent of a cross giving the barrel 8 a degree of
freedom in all lateral directions, even though it is
integral, in rotation, of the quill 3.
Axial tightening due to tie rods 13
acting through the ring 10, a bearing of
stopper 17 is interposed between the latter and the flange 8a.
The barrel 8 carries two profiled cams 18 and 19, fixed by
screws 20, which are interchangeable.
The shape of these two cams and of the cam that constitutes
also the flange Sa of the barrel 8 as well as their relative position
are such that, during the rotation of the quill, these three cams
remain in constant contact with three
rollers 21, 22 and 23 rotatably mounted on the front face of the tailstock 1. These three rollers are fixed, although the radial position
of roller 23 is adjustable, its adjustment being carried out using the
eccentric head 24a of a screw 24, so as to allow the catch
page of any errors due to manufacturing tolerances.
The realization of a non-circular surface such that, by
example, the surface 25 of the workpiece 5 by means of a
fixed chisel 26 is carried out by-simple turning, the drive in
rotation of the workpiece carried out by the quill 3 and its
radial displacements by the three cams 8a, 18 and 19 which, thanks to the
that they are in permanent contact with their respective roller,
determine, at each angular position of the quill, a position
radial given for barrel 8 and, consequently, for part 5.
Note that the fixed chisel 26 could be replaced
by a grinding wheel or a milling cutter.
As a variant, provision can be made for the case where the cam 8a, instead of
to be circular, will also be profiled, so as to act on the
8 barrel to compensate for slight variations in the rake angle
of the chisel in relation to the workpiece that occur without
this during the lateral movements of said part.
The apparatus described and shown can be used for the realization
tion of the cams 18 and 19 capable of obtaining a part in
, determined work, in the case where the cam Sa is circular:
For the realization of the cam 18, it will be replaced, on the
barrel 8, by a blank 18 '(fig. 4) and the roller 22 will be replaced
by an abrasive belt 27 rotating on a roller 28 pivoting at the
place of roller 22 (fig. 5). The diameter of the roller 28 will be very light
less than that of the roller 22 so as to compensate for the thickness
abrasive tape 27.
We will free the roller 23 so that it is
radially movable and the screw 24 for adjusting its
position by a mechanism, not shown, which may consist of
a lever subjected to the action of a spring carrying a bearing roller
on the roller 23, exerting on the latter a radial pressure indi
quée by the arrow 29 of FIG. 4.
The workpiece 5 will be replaced by a jig 30 representing the negative of the part that it is desired to be able to obtain using the cams 18 and 19, and the chisel 26 will be replaced by a fixed key 31.
The device will then be operated, the pressure exerted at 29, and which is applied to the cam 19 via the roller 23, maintaining the cam Sa in contact with the roller 21 and the blank 18 'in contact with the abrasive tape 27, until the jig 30 constantly bears on the key 31, whereby the cam 18 will thus be produced.
The apparatus can also be used to produce the cam 19. For this purpose, the roller 22 will be put back in place, as will the cam 18, and the cam 19 will be replaced by a blank 19 '. Template 30 and key 31 will be deleted. The roller 23 will be replaced by an abrasive tape 32 rotating on a roller 33 of diameter slightly smaller than that of the roller 23.
The apparatus will then be operated until the abrasive tape 32 bears well over the entire periphery of the blank 19 'which will thus have become the cam 19.
It should be noted that the abrasive ribbons 27 and 32 could be replaced by grinding wheels.
