Zum besseren Verständnis der Erfindung sei auf beiliegende Zeichnung Bezug genommen, die eine bevorzugte Ausführungsform der Erfindung zeigt. In der Zeichnung ist Fig. 1 ein Längsschnitt eines Behälters gemäss der Erfindung;
Fig. 2 ist eine vergrösserte Ansicht des Deckels im Schnitt;
Fig. 3 ist ein Grundriss, von unten gesehen, des Deckels gemäss Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 ist ein Schnitt durch den beweglichen Kolben nach Fig. 1;
Container for automatic dispensing of liquid or pasty substances
The present invention relates to a container from which liquid substances are automatically conveyed out in the desired amount in a simple and convenient manner.
So-called aerosol containers, in which a gaseous pressure or propellant is used, are widely used. The gaseous propellant is filled into the container while it is being filled with the content intended for consumption, the pressure or propellant promotes the substances intended for consumption under pressure by means of a manually operated valve. It is clear that after the pressure medium comes into close contact with the contents, only a gaseous medium can be used which does not attack the contents in any way. Furthermore, such gases are expensive and difficult to recycle. Small amounts are difficult to get out of such containers, and it is not always possible to completely empty the container.
In the case of so-called pressure bottles or by means of containers operated by air pumps, air is introduced into the containers concerned in order to force the contents of the containers out of the same. This process is also associated with disadvantages, since the air could possibly be harmful to the substances.
According to the present invention, a dispensing container is provided, which is characterized in that the container has a movable piston and means are provided to press the piston against the container lid, and that a valve for controlling the substances to be pushed out is present, the movable piston comprises a cap made of resilient material which rests on a rigid base part with a central opening only with the side walls and not in the middle thereof, and wherein the pressure exerted by the contents of the container on the cap bulges the side walls of the cap outwards so that there is a sealing contact with the side walls of the container.
For a better understanding of the invention, reference is made to the accompanying drawing, which shows a preferred embodiment of the invention. In the drawing Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a container according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the lid;
Fig. 3 is a plan view, seen from below, of the lid of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a section through the movable piston of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a plan view, seen from below, of the container of Figs
Finally, FIG. 6 shows a modified form of the container according to FIG. 1.
The container shown in the drawings can be made from a wide variety of materials, synthetic resins are preferred. The container has a side wall 2, a fixed base 4, a movable piston 6 and a cover 8. A spring 10 is attached between the fixed base 4 and the movable piston 6 and presses continuously against the movable piston 6 from below. If necessary, several co-axial springs of this type can be attached. The lid 8 has a manually operated valve and a spout 12 through which the contents can escape.
The movable piston 6 has a piston body 14 made of rigid material and cylindrical in shape, which has an annular, outwardly directed groove 16 on the upper edge and a partition 18 below the groove 16. A cap 20 provides a connection between the movable piston and the inside of the wall 2 of the container. The cap 20 is made of resilient material and has a flat top 22 and a cylindrical side wall 24. The latter goes into an inwardly directed flange or thickened Edge 26 which enters the groove 16. The side wall 24 has an inclined surface 28, the diameter of which decreases towards the top.
As mentioned, the cap 20 is made of a flexible material such as rubber or synthetic rubber or synthetic resin. Pressure is applied to the contents of the container by pressure on the top 22. The latter is then bulged downwards and enters the space 30, above the partition wall 18. The partition wall has air holes 31, so that this downward movement is possible. The deformation of the top 22 causes the sides of the cap to bulge outward, thus creating the seal between the bottom and the sides of the container.
In particular, after the piston body 14 is below the cap and the top 22 thereof rests on the spout at the edge of the cap but not touching the center of the top, pressure on the center results in the lower edge 24 'of the cap and the side wall 24 bulges outward, creating a good seal. An annular indentation 25 can be provided on the lower edge 24 'of the cap, so that a second sealing line 24 "is formed. The inclined surfaces 28 facilitate the ascent of the movable piston during the dispensing of the contents of the container.
As soon as the contents of the container have been almost completely squeezed out of the same, the pressure on the cap 22 is released so that the cap becomes completely flat again, due to its inherent elasticity. Thus, the movable piston is suitable for practically conveying the contents out of the container except for the smallest residue that remains between the movable piston and the opening of the spout 12 when the bottom is in the uppermost position thereof.
A conical pin 32 extends downward from the partition 18 of the movable piston. This has arms 34 extending on two sides. The pin serves to hold the movable piston in the lowest position of the container during filling and, where necessary, also during the time when the container is stored in the filled position. For this purpose, the solid base 4 is provided with an inwardly protruding protuberance 36, which in turn has an opening 38.
A pair of opposing slots (see FIG. 5) are provided on both sides of the opening 38. As soon as the movable base 6 reaches the lowest position, the pin 32 passes through the opening 38, the two arms 34 passing through the slots 40.
The pin is then rotated by about 90C so that the arms 34 no longer lie opposite the slots 40 and the floor is thus held in the lowest position. As soon as the container is to be made ready for dispensing the contents, the pen is rotated so that the arms 34 are in line with the slots 40 and the pen with the arms can pass through the slots and thus the pressure of the spring 10 on the movable floor 6 can act. In order to make the rotation of the pin 32 possible, a transverse slot 41, as shown in FIG. 4, can be provided.
The cover 8, in which the valve which controls the dispensing of the material, is provided, should preferably consist of a flexible material. The valve and spout 12 can be made in one piece within the lid. For this purpose, the cover, which is shown particularly clearly in FIGS. 2 and 3, is formed from rubber or other plastic material and at the same time a C-shaped groove 42 is provided on the underside of the cover. The passage 44 extends in the radial direction from the spout 12 to the center of the lid, through a piece 45, between the ends of the C-groove. Another passage 46 is provided in the center of the cover and extends in the axial direction and finally opens into the throughflow 44.
The passage 46 opens into a narrow slot 48 and the latter serves as a valve for controlling the outflow from the snout 12. A cap 49 is connected to the lid by means of a band 45 and serves to close the snout if this is desired. The cap 49 and tape 50 are cast or molded in one piece with the lid.
The construction of the lid 8 is such that normally the slot 48 remains closed due to the elasticity of the material and no material can escape, but as soon as pressure is exerted on the top of the lid, for example by means of the thumb of the hand holding the container, the bulges Underside of the lid inwards and this has the consequence that the slot 48 opens. Thus the contents of the container can exit through the slot and flow through the passages 46 and 44 and finally exit from the open end of the spout 12. Groove 42 in the underside of the lid facilitates the deformation of the latter and thus the opening of the slot 48.
FIG. 6 shows a modification of the container according to FIG. 1. In this construction, an upwardly projecting edge 51 is provided on the bottom of the container, so that a groove 52 running all around is created. A plurality of openings 54 are made in the side wall of the container and near the gutter. The purpose of the channel is to collect any liquid that might form on the outside of the container as a result of condensation. The liquid runs into the container and that into the space between the fixed base 4 and the movable piston 6 and does not come into contact with the normal contents of the container.
In order to fill the container, the movable piston is anchored in the solid base by means of the pin 32 and the contents can be filled in after the lid has been removed. The lid is now put back on and the pin 32 can be released immediately or later, whereupon the spring 10 exerts a permanent pressure on the movable piston and there is a tendency to convey the contents of the container out through the nozzle 12. However, no material can leak out as long as the slot 48, which serves as a valve, remains closed, which it normally is. As soon as the contents are to be dispensed, pressure is exerted on the lid 8 so that the slot 48 opens and the contents can escape through the passages 46 and 44 and the spout 12 under the action of the spring 10.
As soon as the pressure subsides, the slot closes and no more material emerges from the snout.
The container can be refilled and used again at any time. The containers can dispense their contents drop by drop, which is not the case with the aerosol containers. The movable piston keeps the walls perfectly clean during its ascent and in this way the containers can be completely emptied to the end. No special machines for filling the container are necessary, and the containers themselves can be made of less strong and, above all, cheaper material than is the case with the aerosol containers.
