The present invention relates to an alarm clock with electronic warning device and particularly relates to the structure and construction of the warning device.
We know of many alarm clocks with electronic alarms, some being equipped with a buzzer comprising an electrodynamic device using coils and magnets. The aforementioned devices are bulky because they comprise on the one hand electrical circuits and on the other hand an acoustic converter.
In known constructions of this kind, the clock bed movement and the buzzer are placed on a common plane parallel to each other, thus the external dimensions of the assembly are increased. Frequently the watch is given a special configuration to encompass the various elements, but this special configuration destroys the elegance of the watch. In addition, the use of permanent magnets can have harmful effects on the movement and the shielding of these magnets is a difficult problem to solve.
In conventional constructions, in which the huzzer and the movement are placed side by side parallel in a common plane, each of these must be placed in a separate housing to achieve a proper seal as it is almost impossible to arrange the buzzer and movement in a circle; in addition to this reason, the acoustic part of the buzzer must be in physical contact with the ambient atmosphere to be effective. which leads to a difficult and expensive construction.
The object of the invention is to obtain a waterproof alarm clock with an electronic alarm which obviates the aforementioned drawbacks, which is of simple construction, the membrane being removably mounted in the watch case.
The electronic alarm clock watch comprising a case containing a movement equipped with an electric contact, an oscillator circuit for the alarm and an electric battery for supplying said circuit. the alarm having a membrane on which is fixed a piezoelectric or electrostrictive vibrating element intended to vibrate when it is connected through said contact to said oscillator circuit supplied by said battery.
is according to the invention characterized in that a support has a contact terminal connected on the one hand to an electrode of the vibrating element and on the other hand to an elastic contact element intended to removably connect said terminal contact with said oscillator circuit, said membrane being electrically connected on the one hand to the other electrode and on the other hand to the back, this back being in removable electrical contact with the caseband of the watch, in contact with one of the poles of said drums.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example. five embodiments of a watch according to the invention.
Fig. I is a partial axial section of the first embodiment of this watch according to 1-I of FIG. 2.
Fig. 2 is a bottom side view of the watch shown in FIG. 1 with partial tearing.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of part of the watch. Fig. 4 is an electrical diagram of the watch alarm device.
Fig. 5 is a schematic view of the open watch seen from the back side.
Fig. 6 is a partial sectional view of the second embodiment.
Fig. 7 is a partial sectional view of the third embodiment.
Fig. 8 is a partial sectional view of the fourth embodiment.
Fig. 9 is a partial perspective view of a detail of the fourth embodiment.
In the first embodiment of the alarm watch shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, the movement 1 of the watch is mounted on a plate 2, which also carries the main parts of the watch. On this plate is removably mounted an electric battery 3, preferably a mercury battery. this battery is intended to supply the vibrating element as will be indicated below.
This battery 3 is mounted on a battery support 4 made of insulating material fixed to the plate 2 and held in this support by a detachable pressure spring 5 fixed by two screws 5a and 5b to the plate 2.
The conventional control circuit 6 for movement 1 of Itt shows is molded in a block of resin and is mounted on plate 2 by means of screws 6a, 6b and 6c. This control circuit 6 is intended to control the oscillations of the time base of the watch, such as a balance, a tuning fork, etc., known per se.
The control circuit 6 is electrically connected to the battery as known. The schematic block of the movement is represented by the reference 8 and comprises an electro-dynamic balance-spring 8a whose oscillations are maintained by the control circuit 6.
This block, known per se, is mounted between plate 2 and the 8th gear bridge by means of 8h screws. 8c and 8t1. The term block is used to designate the entire cog as a whole and to distinguish it from the other active parts of the watch although in reality it does not constitute a block.
As known, the electronic oscillator circuit 9 for the warning device takes components (transistors, capacitors, resistors, etc.) molded together in a block 9a of synthetic resin. A transformer 9b is interposed between the oscillator and the vibrating element 25, this element being piezoelectric or electrostrictive.
This transformer is intended to raise the voltage to adapt it to the vibrating element as described later.
The electronic circuit 9 is mounted on the removable fitçon plate by screws 9a and 9d.
A conventional plastic dial 10 is mounted on the plate 2. Above this dial move the conventional hands 14, 15 and 16.
On the back of the dial 10 is fixed a conductive ring 10a concentric with the dial 10, this ring is preferably obtained by the printed circuit technique.
The battery holder 4 has an opening 4b in which is held a U-shaped contact spring 4a which serves as a conductor between a pole of this battery 3 and the conductor ring 10a.
On the conventional engagement wheel II is rotatably mounted the release wheel 12. An engagement and release spring 13 is fixed at one of its ends to the 9e input of the electronic oscillator circuit 9 by means of a screw. lia. The free end 13b of the spring 13 presses it against the upper surface of the engagement wheel 1 1. This spring has a contact projection 13c in its part median, this projection being intended to come into contact with the conductive ring 10a of the dial 10.
In this way, a switch 30 (fig. 4) is formed by the combination of the engagement and release wheels 11 and 12 and the engagement and release spring 13.
The engagement wheel 11 has three protrusions 1 la regularly distributed over circles of different spokes and the wheel 12 has three openings corresponding to these three protrusions. For the sake of simplification of the drawing, there is shown on the wheel 11 a projection 11a and on the wheel 12 an opening 12a. The watch is provided with manual means for setting the striking time, either by the winding crown 40 or by a special second crown.
These manual means are known and are not shown. To indicate the ringing time, the trigger wheel 12 has been provided with an alarm hand 14; this needle is mounted on a scope of the barrel of this wheel 12.
As known, the wheel 11, driven by the movement of the watch, makes one complete revolution in 12 hours. At the time scheduled for waking up, here the protrusion I bed of the wheel 11 falls into the opening 122a of the wheel 12 under pressure bed (the spring 13 which descends.
The projection 1 3c ale this spring comes into contact with the conductive ring 10a and contact is established between the battery 3 and the 9th input of the oscillator circuit 9.
An hour hand is mounted on the barrel scope of the 11 wheel as known. The 16 minute hand is mounted on the so-called conventional 17-minute shaft.
In the case I8 is mounted a crystal 19 made of organic glass provided with a tension spring 19a.
A casing dial 20 positions plate 2 in the middle part of case I8. A sealing package 21 is inserted between the middle bed of the casing 18 and the membrane support 22 which has for this purpose a circular projection 22a on which the periphery of the membrane 24 is preferably fixed. by gluing. The support 22 has an arm 22b directed inward and which carries an insulating part 23a on which is fixed a contact terminal 23.
On the inner face (the the membrane 24 is fixed a piezoelectric or electrostrictive vibrating element 25. This fixing can be done by gluing for example. A conductor 26 electrically connects the element 25 to the contact terminal 23.
The insulating block 9 of the wake-up oscillator circuit is provided with an arm 91 ′ adorning the spring and which is maintained by its elasticity in electrical contact with terminal bed β 3 when the block 9 and the support 22 of the membrane 24 have been assembled as shown in fig. 1. The base of the arm 9 is cast in the mass of the molded block 9.
The membrane bed support 22 has at its periphery a projection 22c which is intended to be placed in the orientation housing 18b formed in the middle bed of the housing 18.
When the above parts are assembled, as shown in fig. I and 2. the arm 9f is in contact with terminal 23 bed.
The sound membrane 24 is made of a thin aluminum foil 50 to 100 microns thick bonded to the circular projection 22a. An electrically conductive glue is used for this bonding, for example by mixing charcoal powder with the glue.
For the same purpose, the membrane can be subjected to a high axial pressure so that the glue is driven off the projection and establishes electrical contact even if the glue is not conductive.
If a piezoelectric vibrating element is used, it may be made of Rochelle salt, hydrogenated ammonium phosphate, lithium sulfate or a dipotassium tartrate, for example.
If the element is electrostrictive, it will for example be made of barium titanate or an equivalent.
Anyway. the vibrating element 25 is formed from a sub strat 25a composed of one of said materials which have just been mentioned and on which electrodes 25b and 25c have been deposited on each of its faces.
One of these electrodes 256 is bonded to the membrane in an electrically conductive manner as described previously. On the other 25e electrode is soldered a wire 26 which is soldered at its other end to terminal 23.
The bottom of the case 27 has a plurality of protuberances 27a to prevent direct contact of the bottom with the skin of the wearer. The bottom itself is perforated by a plurality of holes 27c to allow the acoustic signals to pass from inside the case to the free atmosphere.
The back 27 is provided with notches 27d for tightening the back with a tightening tool, and a screw thread 27e intended to slip into the thread 18a of the middle part of the case 18.
The interior space of the watch is defined by the membrane 24, the casing frame 22, the middle 18 and the crystal 19: this space is perfectly sealed. We have cited. as an example, that the membrane 24 was made of 50 micron aluminum foil. This thickness is sufficient to ensure perfect sealing under a pressure corresponding to a water height of 10 m. The normal sealing standards are thus respected.
With reference to lig. 4, the operation of this first embodiment of the alarm watch is seen to be explained.
The engagement wheel 12 is driven by means of the crown 40 in a position chosen as described above.
The current is supplied to a movement control circuit 6 via various conductive parts, more specifically, the positive pole of the battery 3 is connected by the spring 5, the plate 2 and a conductor not shown to the positive terminal. of the control circuit 6. On the other hand, the negative pole of the battery 3 is connected, by the spring 4a to the conductor ring 10a and by another conductor, not shown, to the positive terminal of the control circuit 6, as known. In this way the watch operates and the wheel 11 is rotated.
When the wake-up time arrives, the projection Ia of the wheel 11 enters the opening 12a of the wheel 12, the wheel 11 descends and the projection 13c of the engagement spring 13 comes into contact with the conductive ring 10a ; thus switch 30 is closed; in this way the circuit is closed and the current passes from the battery 3 to the oscillator circuit 9. then to the plate 2.
The oscillator circuit 9 begins to oscillate at a certain chosen constant frequency, preferably between 1000 and 3000 cycles per second, the output oscillatory voltage voltage is sent to the transformer 9b at the vibrating element 25 which begins to oscillate and move the membrane 24 to which it is attached.
Practically the transformer 9b constitutes an integral part of the circuit 9 and serves to transmit the oscillating electric energy to the element 25.
The oscillatory movement of the membrane 24 corresponds to an acoustic signal which is delivered from the inside of the box to the ambient atmosphere through the perforations in the bottom 27.
The second embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. 6.
In this second embodiment, the similar parts bear the merits references to which the number 100 has been added for easy comparison.
In this second embodiment, the movement of the watch is similar to that described above.
A spring arm 109f acts as a contact for the oscillating circuit 109 and its base is novated in the mass of the block 109 as before. 118 is the middle of the box, 120 the casing frame and 121 a sealing package.
The membrane holder 122 of the conductive material is formed by a circular disc which has near its periphery an annular projection 122a. This projection is provided with a plurality of openings 122a which have the same function as the perforations 127c provided in the back 127 of the watch case and which serve to pass the acoustic signal.
A contact terminal 123 is fixed in an insulating part integral with the circular disc 122 in a position corresponding to that of the active end of the spring arm 109f.
The vibrating membrane 124 is bonded on its peripheral part on the upper surface of the circular projection 122a in a conductive manner as previously described.
On the membrane 124 is fixed, preferably at its center, a vibrating element 125, piezoelectric or electrostrictive as above. This element is connected by a wire 126 to terminal 123.
The back 127 has a 127e thread intended to be screwed into the thread 118a of the middle Il 8 and has 127e notches for its tightening. This bottom has radial openings 127c for the passage of sound. The waterproofness of the watch is achieved by the combination of the membrane holder 122, the package 121, the middle ]] 8 and the crystal (not shown). Consequently, the membrane 124 plays no role in the sealing of the watch, unlike the first embodiment.
As the membrane 124 is exposed on both sides to the same pressure, it will not suffer any damage whatever the pressure to which it may be subjected, for example in deep water.
The third execution elm will be described with reference to fig. 7.
In this third embodiment, similar parts bear the same references as for the first embodiment to which the number 200 has been added for easy comparison.
The entire gear train bears the reference 208. the dial the reference 210 and the oscillator circuit the reference 209. The latter carries a spring arm 209f whose base is embedded in the block of the oscillator circuit as previously.
The caseband bears the reference 218 and the package bears the reference 221.
The bottom 227 has a plurality of perforations 227c, only one of which is shown.
The bottom 227 has a bearing 227f in which the membrane 224 carrying the sound element 225 is glued by its peripheral part. An interior cover 222, made of insulating material, is crimped or glued into the interior wall of the bottom so as to form a chamber in which the membrane 224 is housed.
On the lower surface of the cover 222 is fixed a conductive plate 223 which contacts the spring arm 209f. A conductor 226 is connected on the one hand to this ring 223 and on the other hand to the vibrating element 225 and passes through the hole 222d made in the insulating cover 222.
The back 227 is fixed in the middle 218 by a threaded ring 228 screwed into the tapping 218a of the middle part. This ring 228 has notches 228b for its tightening by a tool.
The seal is achieved by the combination of the membrane 224, the back 227, the package 221, the middle 218 and the crystal, not shown.
The threaded ring 228 for fixing the back 227 to the middle part is necessary in order to be able to orient the back so that the spring arm 209f is in contact with the conductive plate 223.
The fourth embodiment has been described with reference to FIGS. 8 and 9.
In this fourth execution form, similar parts bear the same references as for the first form of execution to which the number 300 has been added for an easy comparison.
The vibrating membrane 324 on which the vibrating element 325 is fixed is itself fixed on a bearing surface 327f formed in the interior wall of the perforated bottom 327. An insulating cover 322 is driven inside the bottom 327 and is provided with a conductive plate 323 electrically connected to the vibrating element 325 by a wire 326 which passes through a hole 322d drilled in the cover 322.
The bottom 327 is pierced with a wide opening 327h and a plurality of radial notches 327g.
A second auxiliary back 331 is notched in the opening 327h and its diameter is such that it only slightly covers the notches 327g which are intended to let sound pass to the free atmosphere when the membrane 324 vibrates. .
A sealing package 321b is interposed between the frame 320 and the base 327. Another sealing package 321 is interposed between the middle 318 and the base 327.
It should be noted that in this embodiment the conductive plate 323 is formed by a concentric ring at the bottom so that the spring arm 309f is always in contact with the ring 323 regardless of the angular position of the bottom. The back has a 327e thread intended to cooperate with the thread 318a of the middle part when the case is closed.
The seal is ensured by the combination of the membrane 324, the bottom 327, the package 321 a. the body of the housing 318 and the lens, not shown.
After having made the electrical connection by the conductive wire 325 as described previously, the hole 322d can be plugged by means of a resin so that the cover 322 becomes tight and prevents the arrival of water in the movement in the event of rupture. accidental membrane. The same operation can also be done in the third embodiment described above.
The auxiliary bottom 331 makes it possible to be able to access, if it is removed, the cleaning of the membrane and to remove all the dust which may enter through the holes 327g into the space delimited by the membrane and the auxiliary bottom.
In the third and fourth embodiment, the case back integral with the membrane forms a construction unit, this unit can be assembled like an ordinary watch case back.
In all the embodiments described, the membrane and its support can be placed very close to each other so as to avoid strong distortion of the membrane in the event that an accidental excessive pressure is applied to the membrane.
Alternatively, the vibrating membrane can be made from a plastic film or sheet; in this case the two electrodes of the piezoelectric or electrostrictive vibrating element will be electrically connected, by two conductors, to the output terminals of the transformer. Similar connections will be made on the bottom of the box and made of insulating material.
