Device for tying packages with binding material
The invention relates to a device for binding packages with flexible binding material, in which the binding material is pulled from a supply reel and placed in a loop, then tensioned around the package to be bound by pulling it back while holding the end, with the ones serving for advancing and retracting Means have a motor-driven member and means for controlling the drive of this member for the purpose of determining the position of the end of the binding material at the end of the advance are present.
In known devices, photoelectric or mechanical switching means which scan the passage of the binding material end at a certain point are provided for controlling the drive during advance, which switch means shut down the drive after a certain, slight delay after this passage. However, since the feed rate varies, especially because it is indirectly influenced by the size of the previously wrapped package, the position of the front end of the binding material also varies after stopping, often to an inadmissibly large amount. In order to be sure that, despite the variations that occur, the end is in any case sufficiently far forward to enable a perfect connection with the section of binding material coming from the store, an undesirably long tape end part is then often in front of the connection point.
Such a long tape end part is undesirable because it protrudes from the package and can give rise to the connection point tearing open.
The invention seeks to remedy this situation in that the control means have an automatically acting locking device which enables the said organ, starting from the position it assumed at the end of the previous retraction of binding material, to travel a predetermined path during advance.
The accompanying drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, insofar as this seems necessary for understanding the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevation.
FIG. 2 shows a detail from FIG. 1 on a larger scale, parts of a coupling being shown in section.
FIG. 3 is a plan view of FIG. 2, individual parts again being shown in section, and FIG
FIG. 4 is a section along the line IV-nT of FIG. 3.
The bracket 1 is fastened as usual on the upper side of the frame, not shown, of the device, which is designed as a table. In this, the flexible, preferably band-shaped binding material 2 is advanced through the device 3 and put into a loop until the initial part 2 'is located between a fixed plate 101 and a gripper 102 movable beneath it so that it can be held. The device 3, which then runs backwards, pulls the binding material back so that it is stretched around the package inserted into the bracket 1; then the superposed band parts are fastened to one another by means of the welding electrode 4 - or by means of a device that creates a lock.
The binding material 2 comes from a freely rotatably mounted but braked supply reel 5 on the frame of the device, revolves around a deflection roller 6 and then passes through a storage box 7 attached to the frame of the device 3 and then passed through a guide piece 9 to the bracket 1.
The device 3 has a support 10 which is fastened to the frame of the device and which consists of parts 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d welded to one another. In the support part 10a, the shaft 11 is freely rotatably mounted, on which the feed and retraction roller 12 together with a disk 13 with locking teeth 13a is fixed and the friction clutch 14, which serves as a safeguard against torque peaks, is driven by an electric motor 15 which can be reversed. A block 16 guided between the support parts 10c carries an axle bolt 17 on which the pressure roller 19 is mounted by means of a needle bearing 18. A yoke 20 is screwed to the support parts 10c and carries a screw 121, through the adjustment of which the pressure acting between the rollers 12 and 19 can obviously be set.
A pinion 21 is also keyed to the shaft 11. This meshes with a pinion 22, which, like a pinion 23, is rotatably mounted on an axle pin 24 fixedly seated in the support part 10b and is connected to this pinion 23 by a coupling of a known type, which is slip-free in one sense of rotation and as a drag clutch in the other sense of rotation; This clutch has the rollers 25 arranged in wedge-shaped recesses of the pinion 22 and loaded by springs 26. The pinion 23 meshes with the control wheel 27, which is freely rotatably mounted on an axle bolt 28 fixed in the support part 10b, as does an associated support disk 29. Two pegs 30 and 31 projecting through arcuate openings 27a of the control wheel 27 are attached to the latter.
The pin 30 is connected by a strong tension spring 32 to a pin 33 fixed on the steering wheel 27. The pin 31 has an inclined surface 3 pa on its front side, which is intended to act on the arm 34a of a locking lever 36 mounted on the support part 10d by means of the bearing pin 35 in order to engage the locking tooth 34c formed on the other arm 34b with the locking tooth 13a bring to thereby stop the roller 12, in which case the arm 34b elastically compresses the buffer means consisting of a rubber buffer 37 and a spring 39 loading a bulb 38.
In FIGS. 1 and 2, the parts are shown near the ready position which they assume after the, for example, band-shaped binding material 2 has been withdrawn (for the purpose of tensioning the loop formed from the same around the package). During this retraction, the roller 12, 13 and the steering wheel briefly dragged along by the coupling 25, 26 rotated in the direction of the arrows 40 and the pin 31 therefore placed itself on the upper side of the arm 34a of the locking lever, s 34.
As soon as the motor 15 is switched on (e.g. by hand), the roller 12, 13 and the control wheel 27, which is now entrained without slipping, turn in the direction of the arrows 41, the binding material is advanced. The roller 12, 13 completes several revolutions and a fraction of one, whereas the steering wheel 27 at the same time (because of the gear train) only completes one revolution until the control pin 31 with its inclined surface 3 1a acts from below on the arm 34a of the locking lever 34 .
This latter is now pivoted clockwise (Fig. 3) until its tooth 34c engages in the toothing 1 3a and through this the locking lever 34 is pivoted a little further, against the resistance of the buffer means 37, 38, 39 so that the arm 34a (as shown in Figures 2 and 3) removed from the control pin 31; this makes it possible for the tension spring 32 to retighten the disc 29, which was previously somewhat braked on the occasion of the action of 31a on 34a, so that the control pin 3 1a can pass the lever arm 34a; the parts are then exactly in the position shown in FIGS.
It then follows again (by automatic switching of the motor 15 for example by means of a switch 42 actuated by the lever arm 34a) the retraction of the strip material and, at the beginning of this retraction, the control pin 31 rests on the top of the locking lever arm 34a. The path covered by the steering wheel 27 including the parts 29, 31, starting from the position in which the control pin 31 rests on the top of the locking lever 34, to the position in which by the action of the control pin 31 or its surface 31 a on the locking lever, the tooth 34c of which engages with the locking toothing 13a, determines the length of the binding material advance.
The latter practically does not vary.
