Process for the production of filter material for the deacidification of drinking and industrial water It is known to deacidify the water by filtering the same over grains of roasted mineral for carbon dioxide binding in drinking and industrial water and to form a calcareous rust protection layer in iron water line pipes Calcium carbonate or dolomite or from these products corresponding chemicals produced grains to carry out.
The originally used, such filter materials are known to react only very sluggishly with the calcareous carbonic acid of the water due to their crystalline solid form.
In order to overcome this inertia and to improve the acidification effect, the solid crystalline structure of the minerals has been loosened by roasting so far that part of the calcium carbonate is converted into calcium oxide, but only in an amount that is necessary for the subsequent hydration the granular fuel does not disintegrate.
In the kiln material consisting of calcium carbonate, calcium oxide and possibly magnesium oxide, the calcium oxide portion was then converted back into calcium carbonate by hydration and carbonization.
This was done by treating the material to be fired with a sodium or magnesium bicarbonate solution. The dissolved bicarbonate releases most of the carbonic acid when it comes into contact with the roasted product and converts the calcium hydroxide into calcium carbonate, which finally results in sodium hydroxide solution, which is rinsed out by the water cycle. The material is then usually dried.
A similar, digested calcium carbonate deacidifying material was also produced in a cold way, by adding sodium carbonate solution to produce granulates of dolomite hydrate or lime hydrate or mixtures of both or of, mixtures of finely ground calcite or mar mor with dolomite hydrate or lime hydrate with bicarbonate solution.
The use of bicarbonate solutions was a significant step forward compared to the previously known carbonization using CO 2 -containing gas, in which the carbonization of the treated material caused difficulties due to the formation of impermeable calcium carbonate crusts on the surface.
Carbonization by means of bicarbonate, carried out in a closed liquid cycle, has the great advantage that the solution penetrates into the innermost part of the porous piece-shaped or granulated material, so that good carbonization and removal of any residues of free lime easily succeed . In addition, a larger excess of bicarbonate solution could be avoided and the end product could be obtained in a shorter time.
It has now been found that when sodium carbonate solution is used instead of bicarbonate solutions, a deacidifying and filter material is obtained which is distinguished by a far greater activity and strength compared to that produced with bicarbonate solutions.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that granular, calcium oxide-containing, mineral calcium carbonate or calcium magnesium carbonate or granules of calcium hydroxide and / or dolomite hydrate produced by means of a sodium carbonate solution or granules produced by means of a sodium carbonate solution from a mixture of mineral Calcium.- or / and
Calcium magnesium carbonate and added calcium hydroxide or dolomite hydrate treated with sodium carbonate solution. Comparative tests were carried out on Duisburg tap water artificially impregnated with carbonic acid, which had the following composition before the addition of carbonic acid:
