Coupling half of an automatic coupling for railway and similar vehicles The invention relates to a coupling half of an automatic coupling for railway and similar vehicles.
If a train of railroad cars is equipped with brakes to be operated by compressed air, a brake line extends over the length of the train, which is connected to the braking device on each of the cars, and the brakes are applied and released automatically by the The pressure of the compressed air in this brake line is changed in a known manner.
There are numerous forms of couplings be known, the line connecting devices th contain that automatically establish the connection between the sections of the brake line carried by two neighboring cars when the two cars are coupled together.
The invention relates to a coupling half of the above type with a removable ble, connected to the air brake line line connecting device containing a Hohlkör by which is displaceable against the action of a spring in a perpendicular to a vertical dome end face of the coupling half Rich device and at its one open end, which is laterally next to the vertical dome surface, on the one hand has an elastic sealing member surrounding the opening of this open end, which is able to produce a pressure-medium-tight seal with the corresponding sealing member of the counter-coupling half, and on the other hand contains sealing means of a valve device, which open automatically when the two coupling halves are coupled together and can release compressed air from the brake line,
when the clutch is released.
The arrangement of the valve closure means at the open end of the hollow body, instead of at another point, ensures that, when the clutch is not coupled and the brake line is not charged, and thus the valve device is closed, external dirt and moisture are prevented from penetrate directly into the brake line, and can not be deposited on surfaces that, when the clutch is coupled, limit the connection established between the sections of the brake line.
In a known valve device of this type, a main valve member on the shaft of an auxiliary valve member is slidably ge leads, the main valve member is annular and the central opening passing through the main valve member usually closed by the auxiliary valve member under the action of a spring ge, but which is opened when the coupling is decoupled and the pressure acting on the auxiliary valve member in the brake line exceeds the atmospheric pressure by an amount sufficient to overcome the effect of the Fedef.
In the coupling half, to which the inven tion refers, the open end of the Hohlkör pers is slightly above the vertical coupling face of the coupling half when the coupling is released, so that when coupling the spring we kende on the hollow body is further tensioned to deliver a desired sealing pressure.
It is of course desirable that the end of the hollow body facing away from the open end is closed so that the compressed air cannot escape through the housing receiving the hollow body, but with a conventional way of closing this end, the problem arises that the Compressed air located in the hollow body counteracts the sealing pressure from. According to the invention, the hollow body is now closed at its end facing away from the open end by a piston displaceable in it, which is arranged in such a way that it can come into engagement with the housing in order to move the hollow body from the rearward-facing, to relieve the force generated by the compressed air contained in it.
The invention is tert erläu below with reference to the drawing of an exemplary embodiment. The figures show: FIG. 1 a schematic representation of a coupling half of an automatic coupling for rail and similar vehicles and FIG. 2 a longitudinal section through a removable line connecting device with which the coupling half is equipped.
The half of a coupling shown in Fig. 1, which is formed from the usual with regard to the coupling features, has a vertical end face 10 as well as a rounded nose 11 and a recess for receiving the nose of the mating coupling half. The pivoting movement of the coupling half about the pivot pin 12 attached to the carriage is limited by a horizontal slot which is provided in a structural part 13 and through which the shaft of the coupling passes. The head of the coupling half has a downward approach to provide a housing 14 for a detachable trainline connector, indicated generally at 15.
The housing 14 is provided on the underside with a longitudinal slot and lugs 16 on both sides of the slot. A bolt 17, which is held in the sets 16, prevents the pulling out of the connecting device 15 by placing itself against a connector 18 of the device 15. The connector 18 is connected to the carriage-carried section 19 of the trainline by a flexible hose 20. A stopcock 21 is inserted into the train line section 19 near each of its ends, and the cock is adjustable by an arm 22 in an open or closed position.
The line connecting device 15 is slidable within a cylindrical bore of the housing 14, and the axis of the bore is perpendicular to the plane of the vertical end face 10 of the coupling half, and the arrangement is such that when the coupling half is coupled to the mating coupling half, the two trainline connection devices are coaxial.
The detachable line connecting device shown in Fig. 2 has an annular main valve member 40 which is slidably guided by means of a socket part 42 on the shaft 43 of an auxiliary valve member 41, which is supported by a spring 46, which is located between the socket part 42 and one on the shaft 43 attached collar 47 extends, is pressed into a position in which the central opening 40a in the main valve member 40 is closed. The main valve member 40 is pressed by a closing spring 45 into a position in which it rests on an inwardly projecting shoulder of a hollow body which is explained in more detail below and which encloses the valve device.
The compressed air contained in the brake line is allowed into the interior of the hollow body through the connector 18 and enters the interior of the annular main valve member 40 through openings 44 in this valve member.
The hollow body consists of four sections: an annular front end section 52, wel cher determines the open end of the body, lying laterally next to the surface 10 (Fig. 1) and containing the closure parts of the two valve members, and an end of the body surrounding the opening of this end, according to Art a cushion formed elastic sealing member 28 carries, a tubular rear end portion 53, a cylindrical intermediate portion 54 on which the end portions 52 and 53 are fastened by threads be, and a bushing 55 which is fitted in the inter mediate portion 54 is.
The socket 55 is provided with a hub 56 which serves as a guide and as a support for the socket part 42 of the main valve member 40, and the socket 55 also creates a suitable sliding surface for a cup-shaped piston 48 which closes the rear end of the hollow body and in it is movable. An escape of compressed air past the piston 48 is prevented by the arrangement of at least one packing ring, as is indicated, for example, at 49. The piston 48 has a shaft 50 which protrudes into the tubular end portion 53 of the hollow body and is seen with an axially extending blind bore 51 ver, within which the shaft 43 of the auxiliary valve member 41 is guided.
A spring 57 is arranged within the tubular end portion 53 between a small inner flange 58 formed on it and a loose plate 59, and near the rear end of the section 53 from a stop ring 60 is provided, wel cher ensures that the spring and the plate within this section are kept enclosed when the hollow body is removed from its housing.
In FIG. 2, the line connecting device is shown in such a way that it is held in the housing 14 (see also FIG. 1) by a type of bayonet fastening. An L-shaped slot 61 is formed in the wall of the housing, into which the rigid connection piece 18 fits, which in the present embodiment is arranged radially to the hollow body.
When the device is inserted into the housing, the plate 59 comes free from the stop ring 60 by engaging with an appropriate abutment 62 formed in the housing, so that the spring 57 then acts on the device pushing forward with respect to the housing and providing the pressure necessary to hold the fitting 18 against the side of the slot 61.
When the coupling is released, the connecting device is in such a position that the connecting piece 18 is located in the slot 61 that the front end section 52 of the hollow body protrudes slightly beyond the vertical end face (10, FIG. 1) of the coupling half and the shaft 50 of the piston 48 through the plant of the Kol ben under the action of the spring 45 at a school ter 63 of the rear end portion 53 of the Hohlkör pers is kept separated from the plate 59 by a narrow gap (Fig. 2).
If now the coupling half is coupled to the mating coupling half, the connec tion device is pushed into the bore of the housing 10 by an amount that is larger than the gap between the piston shaft 50 and the plate 59, so that the two parts 50 and 59 engage with each other. The spring 57 is tensioned more strongly and thereby generates the desired sealing pressure at the sealing member 28. If the train line is now charged with compressed air, the rearward force, as a result of the pressure building up in the device, would, if appropriate measures were not taken, the endeavor would have to separate the opposing devices from each other, transmitted through the piston to the corresponding housing.
In this way, the hollow bodies of the devices are relieved of the force that seeks to push them apart, and the sealing effect between them by means of the rings 28 of the two devices is maintained.
If the clutch is released, presses the pressurized air in the device, while holding the main valve member 40 on its seat, the auxiliary valve member 41 and escapes to the atmosphere, thereby reducing the pressure in the train line and causing the brakes to be applied. As soon as the pressure in the train line has been reduced to a predetermined value, the auxiliary valve member 41 is closed by its spring 46, and the two valve members form a tight seal against the ingress of dirt and moisture.
It should be noted that the shut-off valve, which is denoted by 21 in FIG. 1, is provided to close the train line at the end of a car from which another one is to be uncoupled, so that the uncoupling does not result in the train line being blown off the atmosphere leads.
