Fig. 2 ist eine vergrösserte Teilansicht der Fig.1.
Electromagnetic Clutch The present invention relates to electromagnetic clutches with flowable magnetic material.
In addition to drive clutches, the term clutch is intended to include brake clutches and other clutches.
In accordance with the present invention, a magnetic clutch is comprised of relatively rotatable members, one of which has a portion surrounding a portion of the other so as to form an annular space. between them is left, which contains a flowable magnetic material, and which coupling has means for generating a force line field between the members, characterized in that the closing part has a plurality of axially spaced circumferential grooves on its inner circumference and the other Part has a plurality of axially spaced circumferential grooves on its outer circumference, which are each located radially opposite every second groove on the enclosing part.
One of the grooves on the inner circumference of the surrounding part can be of greater axial width than the other grooves on its opening, and the grooves on the inner part can be arranged radially opposite the grooves of greater width on the surrounding part. The grooves on the outer circumference of the other part mentioned can have a smaller axial width than the grooves on the surrounding part, opposite which they are located.
The grooves of smaller axial width on the inner circumference of the enclosing part can also be of a smaller width than the grooves on the outer circumference of the other part.
In any of the above-mentioned arrangements, the inner part itself may be surrounded by a second surrounding part formed on or attached to said other part so that a further annular space is provided between them which contains flowable magnetic material, over which the force line field extends.
On the accompanying drawing is. an embodiment of an electromagnetic clutch according to the invention is shown.
Fig. 1 is. a partially broken away vertical cross section of an electromagnetic drive clutch tables.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged partial view of FIG.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged partial cross-section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 is. an enlarged partial cross-section along the line 4-4 in FIG. 2.
The same reference numbers indicate corresponding parts in the various figures. The shape of the surface groove shown on interacting relatively rotatable surfaces of members of electromagnetic clutches for the transmission of a torque between relatively rotatable members of the same, between which flowable magnetic material is used as the torque transmission medium, was designed so that with certainty. blocking between the links when the mechanism is stopped in the energized state is prevented.
By a predetermined arrangement of axially spaced apart grooves on a peripheral surface of a member of some form of the coupling and the predetermined arrangement of another group of axially spaced apart grooves on a peripheral surface of another member of the coupling which is rotatable relative to the first member , and through a predetermined formation, size and spacing of the grooves, it is possible to provide suitable storage spaces in which the flowable material can get when the mechanism is stopped, so as to prevent any possibility that the material due to friction between the members Changes in the contraction of the same on cooling is recorded.
The particular groove arrangement shown has become particularly necessary where the axial width of the air gap between the relatively rotatable members exceeds 25 mm with, for example, 3 mm air gap, that is normally when the grooves are not. so provided, the material would be prevented from being forced out of the air gap onto the opposite ends thereof.
Consequently. in the presence of a number of annular grooves on one link which are axially spaced 25 mm from one another, and in relation to a number of other grooves on a cooperating, radially distal second link, actually a plurality of tight coupling points between the relatively rotatable members intended.
In the drawing represents. 10 generally represents a reversible electromagnetic drive clutch and is only incorporated here as a representation of one form of apparatus on which the basic idea of the invention can be applied.
The clutch 1! 0 has. basically an input or drive unit 1? as well as output units 1..1 and 16. The. Unit 1? There is a shaft 18, two annular, U-shaped parts 20 and ??, clie with. one thigh.
\ on a disk or plate 4 near the outer periphery of the same, an end plate? 16, which is arranged between the part 20 and a flange 38 of the shaft 18, and an end plate system 30 which is attached to the part ?? is attached.
The shaft 18 forms the shaft of the coupling 10 driven by a motor, which shaft, as a result of its connection to the part 20 through the face plate 26, causes the rotation of the parts 20 and ''?, Plate '' 1 and face plates 64 causes.
Each of the parts 20 and ?? has inner and outer magnetizable ring members 32 and 3.1, which are connected to one another on one axial face and are open on the opposite axial face iuid form an annular space 36 between them. An annular coil 38 lies. in space 36 of each part 20 or '22 near the closed end of this part.
One end of the rings 3.1 of the parts 20 and 22 is. attached to plate? 4 so that the open sides of parts 20 and? '? are directed against one another and the plate? 4 lies axially therebetween, but with an axial gap between the one side of each ring 32 and the adjacent end face of the plate 2'-1.
The output system 14 has an annular magnetizable member 4.0, which has an annular radial part 4 \? and has a ring portion 44 which is integral with. the part 4-? be on the outer edge. The part 4'2 is fastened at its inner edge to a hub 46 which in turn is keyed onto an output shaft 48.
The output system 16, like the system 14, has an annular magnetizable (Mied 50, which has an annular, radial part 52 and an annular part 54, which is made in one piece with the part 52 on its outer edge The part 50 is fastened at its inner end to a hub 56, which in turn is rotatably supported on axially distant bearings 58 which are i-in-between the inner circumference of an axial sleeve 59 of the hub 56 and the outer circumference of the shaft 48 are arranged.
Since the ring part 44 of the member 40 is received in radial distance between the ring members 3 and 34 of the part 20 and the ring part 54 of the member 50 in a radial distance between members 32 and 34 of the part 22, is the radial part 42 of the member 40 axially between a sealing member fastened to the end plate 26 and an end face 62 of the plate 24, and the radial part 52 of the reed 50 lies axially between a sealing member 64 of the Face plate system 30 and one, face 66 of plate 24,
which is axially opposite to the end face 62 (Fi:;. 2) of the plate 2'4.
Labyrinth seal means 68 and 70 of the kind described in US Pat. No. 2587077 are present between the driving system 12 and the output systems 13 and 16.
The sealing means 68 have a plurality. of concentric rings 7'2. which are arranged on axially opposite end faces of the part 42 of the link 40, which rings on one side. of the part 42 with concentric rings 74 on the sealing member 60 and on the other side of the same cooperate with concentric rings 76 which are provided on the end face 62 of the plate 4.
The rings 72, 74 and 76 are of such shape and arrangement- now-; to each other that they result in a normally effective seal for magnetic flux inateria.l which is contained in the space 36 between the rings 3'2 and 34 of the part 20.
The sealants: 70 ways. a plurality of concentric rings 78 which are arranged on axially opposite end faces of the part 52 of the member 50 and on one side of the part 52 with concentric rings 80 of the sealing member 64 and on the other side thereof with concentric rings gen 8? on :
the end face 66 of the plate 24 cooperate. The concentric rings 78, 8.0 and 82 are as well as the rings 72, 74 and 7'6 of the sealing means 6, 8 provided so that they result in the same effective sealing means for it, but with special regard to magnetic flux material that is in the Space 3-6 is brought between the members 312 and 34 of the part 22.
On the inside edge of the plate. 2'4 a hub 84 is attached, on the inside of which there is a bearing 86, the inner circumference of which is supported on the shaft 48.
Annular sealing means 88 and 90 are provided between the hubs 46 and 84 and the hubs: 5, 6 and 84 and prevent the passage of magnetic flux material or the entry of the same into the bearings 58 and 8,6.
The plate system 30 has, in addition to the sealing washer 164, a sealing washer 92 which is fastened at its outer edge to the inner edge of the sealing washer @ 64 and whose inner edge is somewhat removed from the outer circumferential surface of the axial bushing 59 of the hub 56, the purpose of which is shown below becomes.
As a means of preventing either clutch A or B, formed by corresponding cooperating parts, from jamming upon cessation of operation or rotation of the clutches with energized coils 38, there are grooves 98, 100 and 102 on the radially spaced cooperating peripheral surfaces 10'4 or 106 of the part 44 of the member 40 and of the ring member 32 enclosed by it.
It can be seen from FIG. 2 that the mutually different grooves 9, 8 and 100 are ring-shaped and alternately spaced by the same axial distance from one another on the inner circumferential surface 104 of the part 44 of the link 40, whereas the grooves 102 Ring-shaped, all of the same size and at the same axial distance on the outer circumferential surface 106 of the link 32 are present. The grooves 100 have the same depth, but a much larger axial width than the grooves 98 and a somewhat larger axial width than the grooves 102, to which they are radially opposite.
A plurality of small coupling points result between the grooves, which are formed axially between the grooves 102 by the peripheral surface areas of the surface 106 of the link 32.
Because in this way the width of the areas between the grooves 102 is limited to, for example, 25 mm with a 3 mm thick annular space or gap 108 between the surfaces 104 and 106, the grooves 100 and 102 serve as an annular container into which can flow Magnetic material 110 can flow if the rotation of the coupling A is stopped with the coil 3! 8 energized, and this prevents the blockage between the part 2.0 and the member 40, as would otherwise occur due to the wedge action of the flowable magnetic material between surfaces 104 and 106 can occur.
It is evident from the construction of member 40 and ring member 32 that without the presence of grooves 100 and 102, portion 44 of member 40 tends to go from heated to cooled faster than the ring member 32 of the part 20, the flowable magnetic material 110 between the surfaces 104 and 106 of the respective members 3 2 and 40 brings together, since it would be impossible for the powder axially out of the .Spalt 108 to press.
The grooves 98 as provided in the surface 104 of the portion 44 of the link 40 are for the purpose of taking into account the maximum heat generation that results from slippage between the link 40 and the portion 2.0 in the link 3 '2 of Part 20 to occur. This is possible because the effective circumferential area of the surface 104 of the member 40 between the grooves 100 is smaller than the effective circumferential area of the; Surface 106 between the grooves 102 of the link 32.
As such, the smaller area will act more on the flowable magnetic material than the larger area, with an excitation of known value, resulting in the maximum heat generation in member 32 compared to part 44 of member 40.
A plurality of identical, annular, axially spaced apart grooves 112 are provided on the peripheral surface 114 of the portion 44 of the member 40, which are radially outward of the grooves 98 and 100. The surface 11-1 of the part 44 of the member 40 is radially inwardly annularly removed from a smooth, plain-colored, cylindrical surface 116 of the member 34 of the part 20, and in between produces an air gap with the surface 11,6 118, in which magnetic material 110 lies in the same way as in gap 108.
The grooves 112 serve the same purpose between the portion 44 of the link 40 and the link 34 as the grooves 98 between the portion 44 of the link 40 and the link 32, i.e.. a maximum generation of heat in the link 34. Since the links 32 and 34 outside the clutch A and outside the same in contact with air. are, heat generated therein is quickly released to the surrounding atmosphere, which results in an effective operation of the clutch.
The grooves 1 "20 and 1'22 of the part 54 of the link 52 and the grooves 124 of the link 32 of the part 22 of the coupling B serve the same purpose as the grooves 98, 100 and 1.02 of the coupling A, respectively, because in for all relationships and purposes the couplings.1 and ss are identical. Grooves 126 of member 34 of part 22 of coupling ss serve the same purpose as grooves 112 of member 34 of part 20 of coupling A.
The flowable magnetic material 110 used here, which lies both in the columns 103 and 118 of the coupling A and in corresponding columns of the coupling ss, is of the type of a dry powder, such as a magnetic stainless steel powder with various anti-: Sintering and anti-wear additives.
During normal operation of the couplings A and B, in which their input shaft is driven by a suitable primary machine, not shown, the attached parts' 2ü and 22, which form part of the system 12, are driven and the flowable magnetic Material is prevented under the influence of centrifugal force from entering the grooves 1'd2. and 12'.1 of the members 32 of the clutches --1 and B to enter.
Upon energization of the coils 38 of the clutches A and B, a driving relationship between the driving and driven systems of the clutches is established as a result of the magnetic force line passage therebetween via the gaps 108 and 118 of clutch A and the corresponding gaps of clutch B. The flowable magnetic material provided in the couplings is used to bring about a high power transmission capacity.
During this phase of operation, the magnetic material remains outside the grooves 102 and 121; However, if the clutches are stopped, that is, if the power drive is removed from the shaft 18 with the coils 38 still energized, the material is free when the part 44 of the link 40 and 54 of the link 52 is drawn into the grooves 102 to flow so as to counter any possibility of the couplings being blocked.
Although the drawing illustrates a drive clutch and the description explains such a clutch environment, the principles present here are equally applicable to brake clutches and other clutches, and accordingly clutch is to be understood in the most general sense. It will also be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that variations in construction can be made without departing from the essence of the invention.
