Device for closing a bay with a tilting panel, in particular for garages, warehouses, etc. The present invention relates to a positive closing device for a bay with a low wall panel. This device is suitable for garages, warehouses, shops, etc. The panel can be a door, window, storefront, etc.
The device according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the panel is articulated, on each side, at one end of a pivoting lever at an intermediate point on a fixed pivot and carrying at its other end a counterweight balancing approximately at half the weight of the panel, and by the fact that on each side of the panel, a connecting rod is articulated, on the one hand on a fixed pivot and on the other hand to the panel itself, the reciprocal position that fixed pivots and movable articula tion points being chosen in such a way that the connecting rods work constantly on traction and that the counterweight levers alone support the panel.
Given the absence of any running element (rollers on rail, grooved pulleys for cables, etc.), the panel is closed and opened without noise, unlike what happens with most doors. Known rockers. The accompanying drawing shows, schematically and by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is a sectional view along a vertical plane of a first embodiment, while FIG. 2 is a similar view of a second embodiment.
It will be assumed that the devices shown serve to close the entrance to a garage 2, having a floor 3 and a ceiling 4 as well as two side walls the spacing of which is only slightly greater than the width of the entrance. , as is the case with most one-car garages. _.
The panel consists of a metal frame surrounding an assembly of wooden tops; it could moreover be entirely metallic. As its method of construction is not strictly subordinate to the other parts of the device, it will not be described in detail.
This panel occupies, in closed condition, the position shown in solid lines in FIGS. 1 and 2, position in which its lower edge is against a frontal shoulder 14 of the threshold of the entrance, while its upper edge bears against an angle 13 fixed on the lower face 1 of the cover 15 whose height is denoted by the letter h.
For the tilting of the panel 5, two identical mechanisms are provided, placed laterally on each side of the panel 5. Each mechanism comprises a robust lever 7 pivoted at 8 on a wall pivot, that is to say fixed to the side wall of the garage; one of the ends of this lever is articulated at 6a to a bracket 6 fixed to the frame of the panel at a point situated slightly above the center of gravity G of the panel 5. At the free end of the lever 7 is suspended, by the 'Intermediate a hinge, a counterweight 9 which approximately balances the weight of half of the panel.
This mechanism also comprises a connecting rod 10, articulated on the one hand to a lug 12 fixed in the floor 3 of the garage and on the other hand to a bracket 11 fixed to the upper edge of the panel. The opening of the door is obtained by gripping a handle (not shown) attached to the bottom of the panel 5 and by exerting an upward pull. Thanks to the counterweights, the effort required is low, even very low. The panel is lifted by rocking both around the axis of the pivot 8 and around the axis of the lug 12, and by pivoting around the axis 6a, as can easily be seen on the panel. drawing. The top edge of the panel describes the arc drawn in dotted lines.
When fully opened, the various elements of the device assume the positions indicated in dotted lines on the drawing. It is easy to realize that, whatever the position of the panel, the latter always exerts a traction on the connecting rod 10, which can therefore be constituted by a simple rod or by a tube, and that the levers 7 support them. only the panel. It can also be seen that the panel fits completely into the garage and that it requires for its tilting only a space of low height h relative to the height H of the bay. The full line arc shows the path of the upper edge of the panel if, as in known types of doors, the lever 7 was rigidly fixed to the panel (the connecting rods 10 being naturally absent).
For a door of this kind of normal height (H = 210 cm), h should be equal to approximately 40 cm, while in the device described it is sufficient that h be equal to about 20 cm.
The. various joints of the device described are naturally constructed so as to ensure sufficient rigidity to the assembly so that the panel does not oscillate laterally and that the two mechanisms 7, 11 move simultaneously.
In the example described, which is suitable when the roof 15 is about 20 cm high, the panel fits completely into the garage and is therefore protected in the open position against the rain. In the event that such a high roof is not available, the solution shown in fig. 2 which is identical to that of FIG. 1 with regard to the elements composing the device and which differs only by the position of the lever 7. The latter, always horizontal in the closed position of the panel and vertical in the open position, is articulated to the panel at one point located somewhat above the center of gravity G.
The left arm of lever 7 is likewise shorter than its right arm; the connecting rod 10 is pivoted at 12, vertically on the pivot 8 and at 11 on the panel, as in the previous example. The counterweight 9 balances here also at about half the weight of the panel 5. The device operates as in the previous case, except that the connecting rod 10 supports a higher load (traction) and that the panel 5 does not retract. not entirely in the garage.
In fig. 2, the solid line arc shows that the space required for a tilting door of the same dimensions in which the sink 7 would be rigidly fixed to the panel, is considerably greater than that required by the device described.
