A cet effet (fig.
On remarquera (fig.
On remarquera (fig.
Le levier F1o (fig. 17) est relié à l'extré mité contiguë de la barre transversale F9 et comporte un galet antifriction f $ qui vient au contact d'une portion de came unique<B>f9,</B> fixée sur la face extérieure de la came F1. Lé levier F1e comporte aussi un élément F11, phis court, en forme de crochet;

In the machine shown in the drawing, we see a line made up of dies; a and space bands y (fig. 3 and 5) in a vertically movable line carrier consisting of a first elevator A suscep tible to slide in a so-called clamping frame B and comprising a horizontal U-shaped head portion A1 which overhangs the aforementioned frame and which supports the. compound line.
When the machine is not working, the elevator A is in the position of fig. 1, but as soon as a compound line arrives there at the start of a machine cycle, the elevator descends with it. the line in the position shown in dotted lines (fig. 2), in which it is retained by coming into contact with a stop screw a on the upper part of the clamping frame B, so as to bring the line of dies between two clamping jaws BÚ, B2 just in front of a camera C.
The line being in this position is justified in the known manner by means of a device described later, and the characters of the matrices are illuminated by fluorescent tube lamps 5, supported by means of an arm 6 directed towards the center. low and arranged one above the other behind the line and parallel to that line. The exposure being completed, the elevator A rises so as to bring the compound line in front of a transfer channel 7 (fig. 1), in which the dies <i> x </I> pass from the first elevator <I> A </I> in a second elevator, not shown, before their final distribution, while the space bands of the line are brought directly by this channel to their ordinary store.
The dies x (fig. 3 and 4), similar to those of known machines, have on their opposite edges protruding tabs xÚ, x2 upper and lower, and at their upper end a notch x3 in the form of V with a combination of teeth, but, unlike known matrices, x matrices have characters reversed in white on a black background, which allows them to be easily photographed by the reflected light. Likewise, the characters (fig. 4) are arranged on the dies in a position of universal alignment from the base instead of the usual alignment from the top, and the space bands therein are chemically blackened, so to match the black background of the dies.
For the rest, they are identical in shape and dimension to ordinary space bands e1, each comprising (fig. 3 and 9) a relatively short wedge-shaped element y1 with protruding legs y2 and an element y3 in the form of a elongated corner inserted from bottom to top in a line composed at the time of justification.
Although several pro cedures are suitable for the manufacture of the masters comprising these characters, the one adopted in the present case consists in molding on the brass body of the die a black plastic face x4 (fig. 3 and 4 ) which bears the character as an inlaid white element x5. The body of the die is hollowed out and milled so as to retain the plastic face x4 (fig. 3), and we first apply a layer of white enamel by sprinkling in order to fill the recess of the character in the plastic face. ,
then it is removed with a knife on the surrounding surface to leave a character with clearly defined contours.
In order to be able to properly justify the composed lines and bring the various characters of the dies into vertical alignment with precision, a horizontal bar D is intended to support the dies by their projecting lower legs x2 during the justification and alignment operations.
The bar D (fig. 6, 8 and 9) is fixed to the upper end of a vertical element Dl and comprises two centering ribs dl and d2 directed in the longitudinal direction, the rib dl being arranged so as to cooperate with the dies located at their normal or lower level in the first elevator A, and the rib d2 being a little higher than the rib dl, so as to cooperate with the two-letter dies when they are at their upper level in the elevator.
The vertical element D1, which serves to center the bar D, is articulated at its lower end on an oscillation axis D2 and operates automatically during a cycle of the machine; so as to make this bar oscillate firstly forwards, by bringing it into its operating position of FIG. 9 before the. justification, then immediately after the exposure, backwards by bringing it to its non-functioning or normal position of fig. 8.
When the bar D is in its operating position and just before exposure, the centering of the characters of the dies is effected in the known manner by a light. upward movement of the first elevator A, the lower face of the lower rib dl at this time constituting the alignment surface of the bar for the dies which are located at the lower level of the first elevator, and the corresponding face of the upper nerve d2 serving in the same way for the dies which are at the upper level of this elevator.
Arrangements are also made to be able to adjust the bar D at the same time as its element Dl in a slightly lower position, in the event that the dimensions that the images must have are exceptionally large, greater than 30 points, and where the matrices have only one letter. For this purpose, the axis of oscillation D2 of the vertical element Dl (fig. 1, 6 and 33) is supported at its two ends by a bracket D articulated on a horizontal axis ds in a console E of the frame of the machine and consequently can move up and down to bring the alignment bar D into its various adjustment positions.
Movement of the caliper is controlled by a small handle D4 (fig. 1), if knocked out at the front of the machine and can be brought into and out of gear with a fixed toothed sec tor D5 combined with it.
The automatic operation of the vertical support element of the alignment bar D is effected by means of a vertical oscillating lever D6 (fig. 8 and 17) controlled by a main camshaft F and oscillating. between its ends around an axis dÚ2 on a fixed bracket El (fig. 8 and 17) of the frame of the machine.
The lever D6 has at its upper and lower ends two anti-friction rollers d4 and d5 which come into contact with separate cam portions <B> f l, </B> f 2 arranged on the outer edge of a cam FÚ keyed to a shaft F; in the vicinity of the upper roller d4, the lever is attached to the rear end of a bar D7 which is supported in the vicinity of the front part of the machine by an articulated vertical connecting rod D8 which maintains an operating connection with the vertical element Dl in one or other of its adjustment positions.
This connection (fig. 6 and 8) is established by means of a plate D9 fixed to the bar D7 and comprising a vertical notch housing a stud d7 carried by a lateral projection D10 of the vertical element Dl. The bar D7 also comprises at its anterior end an extension Dll articulated on it by a screw d13 and passing forward through a hole e drilled in a fixed adjustment plate El located within easy reach of an operator seated in front of the keyboard. .
Extension <B> Dl ' </B> (fig. 8) is. notched on its lower surface in the transverse direction with respect to its width, so as to form two shoulders d8, d9, and it is also notched on its upper surface, at a point close to the oscillation screw d13,
so as to house a dlo compression spring which is applied against a lead portion of the notched plate D9 and tends to maintain the extension permanently in its normal position in which its anterior end is applied against the lower pa king of the hole e of the adjustment plate El. The shoulder dp of the extension <B> Dl ' </B> is then in contact with a vertical lever C, of irregular shape, and actuates it so as to stop the operation of the machine when the bar D7 comes forward. in the manner already described.
But if we make the extension oscillate <B> Dl ' </B> slightly upwards against the action of its dlo spring, towards the position of fig. 8, the shoulder ds releases the lever C and. allows the machine cycle to continue uninterrupted.
In this case, the operation. of the extension <B> Dl ' </B> is controlled by the vertical slider B3 (fig. 6) via a horizontal lever B4 oscillating at one end on the clamping frame B and a smaller oscillating lever B5, which is mounted on the inner side of the adjustment plate El and lifts the extension <B> Dl ' </B> when lever B4 is operated. The slide B3 can receive an axial movement of amplitude li mitée in the clamping frame B and is connected at its lower end with the lever B4.
A tension spring b, attached to the clamping frame at a point above the lever B4, maintains this lever elastically in its horizontal position determined by a stop screw b1 carried by the lever and normally in contact with a overhanging tab b2 of the clamping frame.
Bar B3 extends slightly at its upper end above the top surface of clamping frame B and sits directly below an adjusting screw aÚ mounted in the head of the first elevator A, these various parts being arranged in such a way that, when the descending elevator rests on the upper part of the clamping frame B, bringing into the appropriate position a line composed between the clamping jaws BÚ, B2, the vertical bar B3 descends and, by means of the levers B4 and B5, raise the anterior extension Dl1 by releasing it from the lever G.
On the other hand, if for any of the known reasons the downward movement of the first elevator stops from its normal position, the extension DÚÚ of the bar D7 actuates the lever G and, by the intermediary of a transmission described below, stops the operation of the machine, so as to prevent the parts from being damaged.
The vertical control lever G is articulated (fig. 6 and 8) between its ends on a fixed vertical arm E2 and has a relatively short upper arm GÚ, a longer arm G2 directed downwards, and a third curved arm. G which, for reasons given below, moves laterally as well as downwards from the arm Gê in a position located alongside the justi fication mechanism.
The arm GÚ comprises a machined auxiliary plate g, located directly in front of the shoulder ds of the aforementioned extension DÚÚ, while the lower end of the arm G2 directed downwards is connected to a mounted horizontal lever plas small G4 (fig. 6) at one end on an axis of oscillation verti cal g1 in the arm Eê and articulated on a sliding bar G5 directed backwards. The bar G5 is supported in a suitable manner near its rear end in a fixed bracket E3 with which it is coupled by a pin g2 and a window, and when the machine is running continuously, this bar and the levers G and G4 respectively occupy their neutral position of fig. 8 and 13b.
But if the lever G is actuated under the effect of the abnormal conditions mentioned above, it oscillates the lever G4, bringing it to the position of fig. 13 and, by means of the sliding bar G5, actuates a lever H, so as to disengage the main control clutch, not shown, and thus to interrupt the operating cycle of the machine. The clutch is disengaged against its spring, and a positive device is intended to automatically lock the clutch in its disengaged position in this case.
This device consists of a system J of parallel connecting rods (fig. 10) connected to the free end of the horizontal lever G4, but which can be controlled by one or the other of two push-buttons Jl, <I> J2 </I> bearing appropriate indications and being operable respectively to stop and restart the machine at any time during rm <I> cycle. </I> Consequently, when the machine has stopped automatically in the manner indicated above,
it can be restarted by pushing the appropriate button Jl.
Clutching is performed by disengaging the clutch lever H when wiping the hinged plate Hl and subjected to the action of a spring, carried by one of the cams of the shaft F and controlled by the operation of the slide. line advancement, oscillates from the position of FIG. 13 to that of FIG. 13a, and the disengagement at the end of the cycle is effected by the operation of the clutch lever H under the action of devices, not shown,
which are controlled by the Hl plate and operate when the cane shaft is mobilized. The plate H1 is actuated by an arm H2 directed backwards from a sleeve H3 rotatably mounted on a vertical shaft H4 and comprising two other arms H5 and Hs located in different angular positions on this arm, the arm H5 coming into contact with a stop h (fig. 33) and thus retaining the sleeve in its normal position,
and the arm Hs coming into contact with im stud g3 located in the vicinity of the posterior end of the sliding bar G5, so that a cycle of the machine can also be triggered by pushing the button JÚ. Once the cycle is finished, arm H6 returns bar G5 as well as lever G4 to their normal position (fig. 13b), because it comes into contact with stud g3 and arm H5 rests against the stop h.
The device J with parallel connecting rods (fig. 7, 10, 11 and 12) is arranged directly behind the control plate El and comprises two connecting rods J3, J4 intended to effect a reciprocating movement, one arranged above the other and respectively connected to the upper and lower ends of two vertical oscillating elements J5, J6, spaced from one another.
The upper connecting rod J3 extends sufficiently at its front end to carry the push-button JÚ which passes through a hole e in the plate El, and bears the inscription start, and the lower connecting rod J4 extends in the same way and carries the push-button J2, which also passes through a hole e4 in the adjustment plate and bears the inscription stop.
The lower connecting rod J4 is articulated on the oscillating elements J5 and J6 and comprises a rectangular plate J7 directed towards the top, while the upper connecting rod J3 has in the vicinity of its rear end, for the reasons indicated below, a plate rectangular J8 directed downwards and joined to the oscillating elements by a pin-and-window coupling j. A tension spring J9, arranged between the side pin jÚ of the connecting rod J3 and the pin j of the oscillating element J5, keeps the connecting rod resiliently in the position of fig. 10.
The oscillating element J5 (fig. 6) is mounted on an axis e5 between lugs offset from the fixed arm E2 and comprises an arm J10 directed downwards and carrying at its lower end a pin j2 penetrating into an open notch g3 formed in the free end of the oscillating lever G4 already described.
The rear oscillating element J6 (fig. 7 and 10) consists, apart from a stop shoulder j3 arranged on its rear edge, of a flat rectilinear bar mounted on an oscillating screw j4 fixed on an extension e6 directed at front of a fixed angle bracket E5. The device J with parallel connecting rods also comprises a stop pawl JÚÚ which serves to block the parts in the position of FIGS.
12 and 13 when the lower button J2 is pushed in from in against the action of the clutch spring which has already been discussed. The pawl JÚÚ is articulated between its ends on an axis j5 projecting laterally on the console portion e6 and comprises a weak torsion spring j6 which tends to make it oscillate counterclockwise.
The pawl JÚÚ (fig. 10) is held in the non-operating position against its spring j6 by a bevelled angle j7 of the lower end of the plate Js which comes into contact with a bevelled surface corresponding j8 of the rear end of the pawl. The head of the ratchet J "has a shoulder j9 and in the normal position of the parts (fig. 10) is above the vertical plate J7.
But when the lower button J2 has been pushed, the lever G4 swings back under the action of the Jlo arm of the oscillating element J5, so as to interrupt the operation of the machine in the manner previously described, and at the same time. time the elements of the device J come in the position of FIG. 12, in which the stop pawl, operating by virtue of its contact with the upper anterior angle of the plate J7, locks the lever G4 and the parts which it controls in the position of fig. 13.
It will be noted, referring to FIGS. 10 and 12, that while the upper button had come forward during the aforementioned operation, the upper connecting rod J3 returns, under the action of the tension of the tension spring J9, to its initial position with respect to the oscillating elements J5 and J6 (fil. 12).
Therefore and due to the stud and window coupling j, the connecting rod J3 can move with a dead time movement of sufficient amplitude to allow the pawl to disengage from the plate J7 when the plug is pushed. your superior Jl to restart the machine. Figs. 6, 7, 8 and 9 also represent a part of the line justification mechanism and in particular certain safety transmission devices which have the effect of actuating the vertical lever G of irregular shape described above to stop the transmission. machine starts when a compound line too short to be properly justified enters the machine.
The justification mechanism (fig. 1 and 6) comprises a horizontal bar K supported at the upper ends of two cylindrical bars KÚ, K2, movable in the vertical direction and arranged so as to come into contact with the space bands of a line. compound supported by the first elevator A in its justifying position between the clamping jaws BÚ and B2. The bars KÚ and K2 are slidably mounted in the clamping frame B and operate during a cycle of the machine under the action of separate levers K3 and K4 which are actuated in a known manner by the camshaft F, so as to raise the bar K in two stages towards a position such as that of FIG. 9, thereby lifting the space bands through a line of matrices over the variable distance which is necessary to effect its justification.
But if a compound line is too short to be justified, the bar K rises to the limit of its operating stroke, shown in dotted lines in fig. 9, and if the machine cycle could continue, the defective line would be photographed and likely deteriorate the negative. Care is therefore taken, as has already been said, to automatically cause in this case the stopping of the machine until the difficulty in question has been remedied. For this purpose (fig. 6 and 9), a lever B6, articulated on the clamping frame B so as to oscillate around a horizontal axis b3, is arranged along the vertical bar K2 of the mechanism. justification.
The lever B6 has three protruding arms b4, b5 and b6, and it is normal; ment retained in the position of FIG. 9 by Lin element B7 in the form of a pawl in lead, against the action of a compression spring B8 which surrounds the bar K2 and is arranged between upper and lower sleeves - B9 and K5 mounted respectively on this closed off.
The pawl B7 oscillates at its front end on the clamping frame B and ends at its rear end directly above a vertical piece B1 (), in the form of an elongated finger, fixed in an adjustable manner on the lower sleeve K5.
The element B7 has between its ends ime tooth b7 normally engaged with the upper end of the arm b4 of the lever B6 under the effect of a weak tension spring bs. The lower sleeve <B> E5 </B> is intended to be operated directly by the justification levers K4 and is coupled with the horizontal bar K by means of a vertical push rod K6, while the upper sleeve B9 is smaller.
and comprises a collar b9 in contact with the projecting arm b5 of the lever B6. The third and longer arm b6 of the lever B6 comprises at its lower end an adjustment screw b1O in contact with the arm G3 directed laterally of the vertical control lever G described above.
Therefore, given the way in which the elements described above are arranged, when the justification mechanism operates in the normal way, the justification bar K is stopped during its upward movement by the space bands in the lines composed of the appropriate length, and the upper end of the finger-shaped part B1o stops for a moment before coming into contact with the pawl B7.
But if the justification bar K were likely to continue its upward movement, the finger-shaped piece B1o would lift the pawl B7 which would thus cease to be in engagement with the lever B6, as indicated by the dotted line of fig. 9, and would allow the compression spring B $ - to actuate this lever and through the coupling between this lever. and the vertical lever G, to stop the operating cycle of the machine.
You can then restart the machine by pushing button J1 and allow it to complete its cycle to remove the line of defective dies without appreciable interruption of the composition operation.
The camera C (fig. 1, 2, 5, 14 and 32) comprises a head CÚ, a lens holder C2, an intermediate expandable bellows C3, a film holder L fixed in a removable manner on the head of the apparatus and a rotating drum M actuated by a spring and mounted on the base C4 of the objective holder and coupled by means of a tape c with the base C5 of the head of the apparatus.
The bases C4 and C5 are able to slide in elongated guides n of a support frame N of the appliance (fig. 5 and 24) which runs backwards from the front of the machine, at the - beyond the camshaft F and which is supported on its side by NÚ uprights bolted to the base frame 0 of the machine. The slides n are common to the two bases C4 and C5, so that the head CÚ of the device and the lens holder C2 can be brought together and away from each other in different positions corresponding to the positioning positions. at the chosen point of the device.
Drum Al (fig. 1 and 32) is rotatably mounted on a sleeve m and houses two helical springs mÚ which are attached at their inner ends to edges of the sleeve by separate rods m2 and which are connected at their outer ends directly with the drum by a united rod that m3. The sleeve m is keyed on a shaft MÚ mounted at its opposite ends in vertical columns Mê rising from the base C4 and whose angular position can be adjusted by an arm n4, so as to increase or decrease the tension of the springs mÚ .
One end of the tape c is fixed by a clamping plate n5 on the outer surface of the drum M, and starting from this plate, passes in part around and below the outer surface of the drum to abou shooting at the base of the drum. head of the device to which it is fixed by a clip cÚ (fig. 2). Under these conditions, the head CÚ of the device and the lens holder C2 are permanently recalled towards each other under the action of the spells mÚ, while their movements in the other direction must be perform against these springs. To this end, the adjustment mechanism of the apparatus comprises two racks C6, C7 (fig. 1) of elongated shape, movable along their axis in both directions and arranged one beside the other at the other. bottom of device C.
The racks C6 and C 7 (fig. 24 and 25) are mounted and guided in a console N2 fixed to the support frame N, and can be actuated by means of appropriate toothed transmissions by a handwheel Cs arranged in the adjustment plate E1, at the front of the machine. The C8 handwheel (fig. 24) is fixed to the front end of a C9 shaft mounted to rotate in fixed brackets Na and.
N4, shaft connected at its rear end by means of a wheel c2 and a large tapered wheel c3 with a short horizontal shaft c4 which is mounted transversely (fig. 25 and 26) in the support frame.
N of the device and which is in turn coupled with a series of c5 spur gears, so as to impart back and forth movements. to the C6 and C7 meshes. The rack C6 (fig. 1) comprises at its front end a stop screw c6 which is located just in front of a transverse rib of the base C4 clu lens holder; likewise, the rack C7 is located at its rear end just in front of a pin c7 directed downwards from the base C5 of the head of the apparatus.
Therefore, by turning the handwheel C8 clockwise, the head and the lens holder of the camera can be moved away from each other at the same time against the camera. tension of the springs mi until the device stops in its fully extended position, and vice versa by turning the handwheel Cs in the other direction, the springs can cause, by means of the same transmissions, the closing of. bellows of the device.
The adjustment of the camera in its different focusing positions is carried out by allowing it to fold up in the manner described above, noting (fig. 1 and 2) that the base C4 of the lens holder comprises a rod C8 directed backwards which comes to rest against one or the other of two stop elements p chosen in advance, and due to the rear wall of the base C5 of the head of the apparatus comprises a machined plate C9 which is applied against the other stop p chosen.
As can be seen in the development (fig. 46), there are twelve pairs of mg pan elements p, united in two groups arranged around the outer surface of a drum consisting of a rotating cylinder. tif P and separated from each other by different determined distances. The drum P (fig. 24) is set on a fairly long shaft P1, which runs forward from the drum and pivots at its two ends in the anterior and posterior walls of the support frame N of the apparatus.
The rotational movement of the drum P intended to bring a selected pair of stop members p into the operating position is controlled by an adjustable rotary cylindrical dial P2 (fig. 24, 27 and 41) fixed by a conical pin pl on the l the front end of a shaft P3 directed from front to back and connected with the shaft P1 of the drum by a transmission (fig. 41) which comprises a control gear P4, wedged on the shaft P3, a wheel P25 wedged on the front end of the shaft P1 and an intermediate idler wheel P26.
The dial P2 (fig. 27 and 29) is arranged in a casing P5 and comprises a handle P6 mounted on the anterior end of the shaft P3 and able to receive there a limited longitudinal movement. Normally (fig. 27), a pin p2 movable along its axis prevents the dial P2 as well as the handle P6 from turning, this pin being fixed on the handle and entering a hole of a series of concentric holes p3 drilled in the handle. 'contiguous end of a fixed element p7 supporting the casing P5 of the dial.
The handle P6 comprises a spring plunger p4, and its longitudinal movement on the shaft Ps is limited in one direction of the body of the dial P2, while its movement in the other direction is limited by a slotted head screw p5, which, starting from the adjoining end of the shaft P3, enters a shoulder recess p6 formed in the handle P6. Two spaced openings p7 formed in the outer surface of the shaft P3 and arranged below the pusher p4 in contact with it,
allow it to hold handle P6 elastically in its locking positions and. release. Consequently, when the handle is pulled forward in the position indicated in dotted lines (fig. 27) and determined by the head of the screw p5, the pin p2 is released from the fixed element P7 and allows to rotate the dial P2 with the shaft P3 to bring it into the determined angular position which can be chosen in accordance with the indications given on the dial.
Then, after this operation, the dial and the shaft can be re-locked in their adjustment position by pushing the handle in to make the locking pin p2 penetrate the hole ps which at this time is in front of it. _.
The casing P5 of the dial (fig. 27 and 29) is fixed at its rear end to the element P7 and has on its upper surface an opening ps Iongitudinal closed by a frame plate Ps, which is pierced with a window p9 through which appears the inscriptions of the dial.
The window p9 is divided into six portions, five of which bear the respective inscriptions 9, 12, 18, 24, 30 to designate the number of points of the die casting most commonly in use, the sixth portion of the window indicating the ratio in number of points of the enlargements and reductions that can be obtained with an optionally chosen die casting.
The inscriptions on the dial are made on a sheet P9 (fig. 30) which has six vertical columns of numbers, arranged so as to be read in twelve horizontal rows, one row at a time facing the window p9 when the dial rotates in the manner previously indicated.
The length of the foil is chosen so as to fit perfectly on the dial cylinder and completely surround it, and the operator can instantly adjust the position of the dial by matching the number of the die casting in use with the corresponding indication which is directly above one of the five portions of the window p9 and which designates the numbers of the matrices. For example, if you are using a 12 point matrix font and want to get an 18 point magnification, the operator simply rotates the dial until the number 18 appears in the window portion. marked 12.
The magnification ratio is then three to two (3/2), as also shown in fig. 29 for this particular adjustment position. Likewise, under the effect of this latter movement, the drum P rotates through the intermediary of the toothed transmissions P4 so as to automatically select the pair of stop elements p which is suitable for fixing the position of the stopper. camera head and lens holder C to achieve the desired focus.
The fixed support element P7 (fig. 5 and 27) is fixed to a vertical arm E6, and its shape is chosen so as to form spaced pÚo, pÚo supports for the anterior end of the shaft. P3 of the dial, which runs backwards along the support frame N of the device and the rear end of which is rotatably mounted in an irregularly shaped arm N5 (fig. 28), projecting laterally through report to this frame. The shaft P com also carries two bevel wheels pl1 and p12 mounted on it by grooves and the rotational movement of which ensures the adjustment of certain devices combined with the support L of the film mentioned above and described below.
The support L of the film (fig. 43 to 45) is box-shaped constituting a chamber housing the film 1, into which the light cannot penetrate and which is fixed to the head C1 of the apparatus by a c10 fastening device which comprises upper and lower spring-loaded locking bars (fig. 1 and 5) operated by means of a small hand lever c12 and fixed respectively by stud and window couplings on the upper and lower surfaces of the head C1 of the apparatus. The hand lever c12 is pinned to the upper end of a vertical rod c13 whose hub has an offset cam-shaped plate c14 which comes into contact with the adjoining end of the locking bar cÚÚ.
A similar coupling with the lower locking bar not shown is established by a plate c15 in the form of a corresponding cam, gou plundered on the lower end of the rod c13; the upper bar cÚÚ comprises between its ends a hook c16, subjected to the tension of a tension spring c17, with which comes into contact a lug ll projecting on the upper surface of the support L of the film, when the latter ci is placed on the head Cl of the device. The vertical rod c13 is rotatably mounted in flanges e13 spaced laterally from a console C1o which is fixed to the head of the apparatus and has upper and lower spans c19 described below.
The backing L of the film. comprises at its upper part a handle L1 fixed on its front wall L2 and which makes it possible to easily transport the support. The posterior wall Ls of the support L is there. fixed in a removable manner to gain access to chamber 1.2 (fig. 43) and. to the elements it contains, when the film needs to be replaced or when exposed portions need to be cut to develop them.
These elements (fig. 43) are the de bitrice coil L4, located at the lower end of the chamber 12, the receiver coil L5 located at the upper end of the. chamber and in the vertical extension of the feeder reel, intermediate advancement rollers L6 and L7 cooperating with each other, two adjustable cover plates L8 and L9, horizontal and limiting. or determine the. on side of film to impress for every bet position.
at the point of the apparatus, and a cam roller Llo which comes into contact with the film on the supply reel L4 and. indicates by - devices not shown the length of film available. The L-1 coil is rotatably mounted on a shaft <B> 13 </B> pivotally mounted in consoles 14 fixed respectively on the 1) opposite side walls <B> 15, </B> I6 (fig. 44) of the film holder.
At least one of the brackets, 14 (Fig. 43), has an open notch 17 which accommodates the shaft 13 and a spring loaded pawl ls which retains the shaft resiliently in the correct position against the end wall of the shaft. this notch. The pelli cule l coming from the supply reel <I> L4 </I> is pulled directly from bottom to top by lengths determined between two horizontal guide bars 19 by the two feed rollers L6 and L7, then passes over the upper take-up reel L5.
The advancement rollers L6 and L7 rotate in the opposite direction under the action of two wheels meshing together l10 and lÚÚ (fig. 27), but while the shaft of the roller L6 pivots at its opposite ends in the side walls of the support L of the film, the shaft of the roller L7 is mounted eccentrically in the axis of rotation 12 of an element LÚÚ in the form of a stirrup, normally maintained in the position of FIG. 43 by the tension of a tension spring GÚ, while the roller L7 pushes the film against the advancement roller L6.
An arm l14 of the caliper LÚÚ runs backwards below the roller L6, so that it can be made to oscillate up and down at will, against the action of the spring lls, so to stop the pressure exerted on the film. The arm l14 has at its rear end a shoulder l7s which comes at this time. in contact with a corresponding hook l16 of a vertical pawl l17 and thus temporarily retains the roller L7 in the non-operating position. We can then easily release the arm 14 from the pawl 17 and reattach the rear wall L3 on the film support before removing the latter from the darkroom to use it again.
A friction clutch device (fig. 44) is used to print, via a toothed wheel Q1 of relatively large diameter, the rotational movements of the feed rollers L6 and L7 as well as of the spool. receiver L5, the toothed wheel Q1 co operates directly with the toothed wheel of smaller diameter <B> 110 </B> which rotates the feed roller LA, and the toothed wheel 11 which rotates the other feed roller.
L7 turns, by means of an idler wheel Gis (fig. 27), a wheel 119 keyed on the hub of the shaft Lie of the receiving coil. An L13 handwheel, also mounted on the hub of the L12 shaft, is used to turn the L5 spool when the film has been attached to it, so as to absorb the slack in the film and keep it under tension. read through an appropriate frictional resistance.
The toothed wheel Q1 is keyed on a sleeve q rotatably mounted on a fixed shaft Q2, and the clutch comprises a collar Q3 with an annular groove., Mounted in the same way on this sleeve and capable of. also receive limited longitudinal movement.
The clutch also comprises a disc q1 and a compression spring q2, the disc being mounted by grooves on the sleeve q and the spring being arranged behind the disc so as to normally keep the neck Q3 of the clutch in contact. friction with the opposite face of the toothed wheel Q1. A screw cap q3, attached to the free or outer end of the sleeve q, forms a seat for the spring q2,
and a collar q4 in one piece with the other end of the sleeve holds the gear Q1 in its operating position against the action of this spring. The collar Q3 of the clutch is covered on both sides with a friction material and operates against a res out of tension q5 at the appropriate moment of each of the successive cycles of the machine, so as to turn the toothed wheel at an angle sufficient to advance the pelli cule step by step, in the manner already indicated,
and devices described below are used to disengage the clutch temporarily by moving the disc q1 along the axis of the collar Q3 and at the same time allow the spring to return this disc to its initial or normal position. The spring q5 is fixed at one end (fig. 27 and 45) directly on the collar Q3 and at the other on a stud q6 projecting on the shaft on which the idler wheel Ils is mounted.
The cover plates L8 and L9 (fig. 43 and 44) which, as has been said, can be brought closer and apart separately from one another to obtain the appropriate spacing of the lines are arranged one above the other and have a length substantially equal to the total width of the chamber 12. The plates Ls and L9 are articulated at their opposite ends and between their upper and lower edges respectively on the side arms l20 and l21 of separate stirrups L14 and L15 journaling in the side walls of the support L of the film.
The plates Ls and L9 (fig. 43) are held by two pairs of weak tension springs 122 and 12 s in the inclined position of fig. 43, wherein their inner edges are in elastic contact with the anterior surface of the film 1, the springs l22 being attached to the outer edge of the plate Ls and to the caliper L14, and the springs l23 being attached to the edge outside the plate L9 and on the bracket L15.
The film 1 is largely supported at this point on its surface by a fixed horizontal transverse bar 244 fixed at its opposite ends to the side walls of the support L and comprising suitable guiding elements 125 which support the film by its edges and can also be adjusted in the longitudinal direction of the bar to accommodate films of different widths.
Figs. 24, 27 and 28 also represent the elements of the adjustable devices which serve to regulate the advance of the film and to fix the plates of the covers L8 and L9 in their corresponding adjustment positions. These devices (fig. 27 and 28) comprise two spaced discs P10 and PÚÚ, rotating and adjustable, placed directly above the posterior end of the shaft P of the dial and the separate bevel gears pl3 and p14 which therefrom. grènent respectively with the two bevel gears pl1 and p12 mounted on this shaft by grooves and which has already been discussed.
The fold wheel is fixed on a vertical axis p15 supporting the disc P10, and the wheel p14 is fixed in the same way on a similar axis p1s supporting the disc P11. The axes p1s and p16 journal at their upper ends in an upper rectangular slide P1e and rest at their lower ends in corresponding recesses p17 formed in the two side arms of a bracket P13 (fig. 24) directed downwards from chi slide P12. The arms as well as the body of the caliper are drilled so as to allow the shaft Ps of the dial to pass through and together to form a suitable end support for those wheels pl1 and p12 which are mounted on the aforementioned shaft.
It will be noted (fig. 28) that for the reasons indicated below, the diameter of the disc P11 is a little larger than that of the disc Plo and that the disc P11 has two series of stop pins pis and p19 arranged concentrically. , while the Plo disc has only one set of p9o stop studs arranged in the same way.
The stop studs of the two discs are set in advance so as to lie at different heights above the upper surfaces of the discs and are intended to selectively determine, by means of devices described below. , the adjustment of the advance- of the film and the plates of the L3 and L9 covers.
The slider P12 is mounted in suitable guides p21 of a support frame member P14, in which it can. be adjusted so as to vary the amplitude of the forward adjustment. of the film and - the following masks. the number of points of the cast iron used.
The P12 slide is adjusted by hand using a spring-loaded pawl. P15 carried by the slide and entering one of the notches p22 formed in the upper plate of one of the guides p21 blocks the slide in its various adjustment positions.
There are five such notches bearing- respectively. the numbers 9, 12, 18, 24, 30, which designate. the die castings most commonly in use and which correspond to the indications given on the casing P5 of the cylinder dial (see, by way of comparison, Figs. 28 and 29).
The slider support frame element P12 (fig. 28) is fixed to the base C5 of the head C1 of the device and comprises two auxiliary consoles P1s and P17, the first of which serves to support a lever Pl8 (fig. 27), articulated on it and comprising a horizontal arm p23, and the console P17 is used to support in the same way two angled levers P19 and P2o which respectively comprise two horizontal arms p24 and p25 as well as two vertical arms p26 and p27 starting from anterior ends of the arms p24 and p25.
The arm p23 of the lever P18 comes into contact at its front end with a portion p2s offset from the lower end of a vertical rod P21 which, at its upper end, is articulated on a lug q 7 projecting from the outer edge clamp Q3 of the friction clutch. The connecting rod P21 is fixed in the same material in the vicinity of its lower end on an articulated guide arm P22 which carries a lateral projecting pin p29 permitting the lifting of the connecting rod, so as to actuate the clutch against of the tension of the spring q5.
The gear QI of the clutch is held in the correct angular position by one of the thrust studs p20 of the disc P10 which is located (fig. 28) directly below the arm p23 of the PIS lever and performs its function in coming into contact with the lower end of a spring plunger ps0 mounted transversely in the slide P12 and coming into contact with the lower edge of the arm p23. It will also be noted, with reference to FIGS. 27 and 28, that the two vertical arms p26 and p27 of the angled levers P19 and P20 have different lengths which allow them to adjust the angular position of two smaller levers L16 and L17, respectively fixed on the two axes of oscillation l26 and l27 of the support brackets for the cover plates L8 and L9.
The lever L16 is held by the tension of a tension spring l2s against the upper end of the arm p26 of the lever P19, while the lever L17 is similarly held by the tension of a similar tension spring l29 against the upper end of the arm p27 of the lever P20.
To support the levers P19 and P20 against the tension springs l28 and 1.2s, the slider P12 also comprises two other spring pushers p31 and p32 arranged side by side directly below the horizontal arms of the angled levers P19 and P20 and applying respectively to two of the studs pis and p19 mounted on the disc P11.
The lever Pis comprises at its rear end an arm of short length p33 directed downwards and the levers P19 and P2o likewise comprise arms of short length p34. The p33 arm sits directly in front of an n1 fixed screw stud, mounted on a vertical member of the N5 fixed console already discussed, while the p34 arms are.
in contact with a stud p35 projecting laterally on the anterior end of a sliding bar P23 which, at its rear end, is directly opposite a similar screw stud n2, also mounted on the console N5. The sliding bar P23 is joined by screw and window couplings p36 with the outer ends of the auxiliary consoles P16 and P17, so that when the device C is fully deployed,
as in fig. 1, the bar P23 is pulled forward by coming into contact with the screw stud n2 and, through the stud p35, oscillates the bent levers up and down.
The result is that the lower edges of the curved levers P19 and P2o at this moment release the upper ends of the spring plungers p31 and p32 and that the lower edge of the lever Pls, coming into contact, of the a-Liter stud screw ni,
also releases the spring plunger p3. The springs of the three plungers can thus lift them by disengaging them from the stop studs of the two discs P1o and P11, allowing the discs to rotate freely under the effect of the rotational movement of the shaft P3, and to come into a any adjustment position chosen and determined by the entries on dial P2.
It is therefore easy to see that the adjustment of the film feed mechanism and of the cover plates L8 and L9, as well as that of the rotating stop drum P, can be carried out automatically for any setting position. at the point of the apparatus by a partial rotational movement of the dial P2, in the manner described above.
The mechanism which controls the operation of the clutch and the film advancement devices, at the appropriate times during a machine cycle, comprises a horizontal bar R (fig. 5, 14 and 18) supported by a oscillating shaft RÚ, by means of a caliper-shaped element R2 and which has a longitudinal rib r disposed below and in operative connection with the pin p29 projecting laterally on the lower end of the vertical connecting rod Pl1. The oscillating shaft RÚ (fig. 5) is pivotally mounted at its front end in the vertical bracket E6 mentioned above, and it is mounted in the same way at its rear end in a vertical bracket E7 bolted to the base frame O.
For reasons indicated below, the oscillating shaft RÚ operates by means of a sleeve R3 rotatably mounted on it and comprising an elbow crank R4 connected with an arm R5 of the same shape, arranged in front of the con sole E6 and keyed on the shaft RÚ.
The sleeve R3 also comprises an arm R6 directed downwards and joined at its lower end by a spring coupling rÚ with a horizontal bar R7, movable along its axis and controlled by a lever R8 actuated by a cam, located next to the FÚ cam which was discussed previously and mounted to oscillate between its ends on a fixed console Es.
To facilitate the manufacture and assembly of the sleeve R3, the latter comprises at its rear end (fig. 18) a conical portion and a threaded portion, designated respectively by r2 and rs, and the arm R6 directed downwards. is drilled with a corresponding hole, so as to fit on the portion r2 of the conical end, on which it is held in the angular position which is appropriate by a tightening nut r4 mounted on the threaded portion r of the muff.
The shorter arm of the lever Rs (fig. 18) comprises an anti-friction roller r5 (fig. 15) which comes into contact with a raised portion f 3 of the outer face of the cam T1, while the longer arm this lever is articulated on the contiguous portion of the end of the bar R7.
The parts are arranged in such a way that, as soon as a line composed of dies has been exposed to the action of light during a cycle of the machine, the cam portion f 3 in contact with the roller r5 actuates the lever. Rs and, by means of the horizontal bar R7, oscillates the arm directed towards the bottom of the sleeve R3 of the. position of fig. 14 in that of FIG. 15.
The result is that the oscillating shaft Ri coupled with the sleeve R3 rotates in, anti-clockwise direction, so as to cause the horizontal bar R to oscillate upwards over a distance determined by its contact with the stud protruding p26 and thus lift the vertical connecting rod Pli in order to actuate the clutch and advance the film in the manner described above. While the cycle continues and the raised cam portion f 3 ceases to be in contact with the roller. r5, the weight of the horizontal bar R and its coupling bracket R2 causes the parts to return to the normal position (fig. 14).
In certain categories of prints, it is advisable to increase the normal spacing between lines. The machine has devices which make it easy to achieve the desired result when needed. For this purpose, the front portion R9 of the crank R4 (fig. 20, 21 and 22) as well as the corresponding portion Rio of the arm R5, are machined and placed directly one behind the other,
the portion R9 being hollowed out in the longitudinal direction on its anterior face and being pierced with a row of holes r6 close together and passing right through it, while the portion R1o has a corresponding recess and an open longitudinal groove r7 which receives the cylindrical casing r3 of the rod r9 of a spring plunger.
The casing rs (fig. 22) has an annular groove rIo in contact with the upper and lower side walls of the groove r7, and the rod r9 removably penetrates under the pressure of its spring in the one of the holes r6. The rod r9 of the pusher comprises at its anterior end a button rÚÚ which first makes it possible to withdraw the rod from the anterior portion of the crank R4, then to move it relative to this crank in the groove r7 to bring it into another position which can be chosen according to the scale views of the anterior face of the arm R5.
These divisions (fig. 21) indicate in points from 1 to 12 the value of the possible increase of the normal spacing between the lines. It will be noted (fig. 21) that the row of holes r6 is inclined with respect to the longitudinal groove r7 of the anterior portion of the arm R5, so that when the rod r9 of the pusher is moved to the left to the left. from its normal position in fig.
21 and 22, to bring it in front of another view of the scale, the arm R5 must rise slightly in relation to the crank R4, thus turning the oscillating shaft RÚ on which it is fixed in anti-clockwise and, consequently, by making the horizontal bar R oscillate upwards at the rear end of the aforementioned shaft, so as to bring it closer to the pin p29 for controlling the clutch. As a result, and since the oscillating movement of the sleeve R3 is constant, the effective travel of the clutch and the advancement of the film accordingly increase as the line spacing increases.
As has already been said, the temporary disengagement of the clutch is effected by a device which has the effect of axially moving the disc qÚ away from the collar Q of the clutch and against the pressure of the res comes out of compression q2. This device (fig. 1, 5 and 18) comprises a vertical bar Q4 which can receive a limited rotational movement in the upper and lower spans c19 of the console C10 which has already been mentioned, as well as two arms directed laterally. q8 which respectively come into contact with the inner face of the disc qÚ above and below the support shaft Q2 of the clutch.
A tension spring q9, attached to the upper arm q8 and to the console C10, maintains the parts in the normal position of fig. 5. The vertical bar Q4 also comprises at its lower end an offset crank Q5 directed downwards and situated directly in front of one of the edges of a horizontal plate Q6 which can be driven in a reciprocating motion, so that the bar Q4 can be actuated to disengage the clutch, whatever the position occupied by the head of the camera in its various focusing positions.
The reciprocating movement of the plate Q6 is obtained by the operation of a shaft Q7 journaling in the vertical console E7 and provided with two arms Q8 directed downwards and between which a support element Q9, fixed directly on the plate Q6, is hinged mounted. To maintain the plate Q6 in its hori zontal position (Fig. 14), the auxiliary slide P12 also comprises a vertical rod qlO in sail bound above = -de its upper surface and coming into contact with the lower surface of this plate. .
The oscillating shaft Q 7 is controlled by the main camshaft F and has for this purpose a third QIO arm directed downwards and longer, connected at its lower end, by means of a res out coupling. Qll, with a second horizontal transverse bar Q12, which, like the bar R7, is movable along its axis and is controlled by a lever Q13 actuated by a cam, located directly above the lever Rs and articulated between its ends on the same vertical axis in the fixed console Es (fig. 15).
The longer arm of the lever Q13 is connected with the adjoining end of the bar Q12, while the shorter arm of this lever has an anti-friction roller q11 which comes into contact in a predetermined order of succession, during a machine cycle, with two cam portions f 4 and f 5 (fig. <B> 15) </B> also fixed on the outer face of the cam F1. For the reasons indicated below, the cam portion f 4 comes into contact, at the start of a machine cycle, with the roller q11, so as to actuate the lever Q13 and, via the bar horizontal Q12,
in oscillating the longer arm directed towards the bottom of the oscillating shaft Q7 from the position of fig. 14 in that of fig. 15 and 18. As a result, the horizontal plate is pushed forward, so as to actuate my level Q5 and thus rotate the vertical bar Q4 in the appropriate direction in order to disengage the clutch and keep it in this position. position roughly during the first 90 degrees of the cycle. Then, when the cam portion f 4 ceases to be in contact with the ga let qÚÚ, the clutch spring q2 comes into action and, through the disc qÚ, causes re-engagement.
While the cycle is continuing and immediately after the clutch has been actuated to advance the film as described above, the second cam portion f5 (fig. 5 and 18) causes a new temporary disengagement. of the clutch which then remains engaged until the cycle is completed.
While the clutch is kept disengaged by the cam portion f4, there is ample time to cancel a badly composed line, when it has been introduced into the machine and before it undergoes the action of the light . The machine also includes devices which operate when the clutch is thus disengaged and prevent it from re-engaging until a time when the operating cycle of the machine is almost complete. These devices consist of a pushbutton Q14 bearing an appropriate inscription (fig. 17, 18 and 18a) projecting transversely through the adjustment panel EÚ and coupled to an arm of a horizontal swinging lever Q15 articulated in the. fixed console E5.
Another arm of the swinging lever Q15 is connected to the front end of a long bar Q16, which runs back from this lever and is supported at its other end by a vertical connecting rod Q17 arranged below it. the camshaft F and articulated on the fixed console E7. The bar Q16 has on its lower surface two spaced play notches q12 (fig. 18R) and q13, the first of which is located in the longitudinal direction of the bar, so as to come normally opposite a corresponding notch of a horizontal element of the exposure adjustment mechanism described below, while the position of the notch q13 is chosen so as to normally accommodate a small angular stop plate q15 attached to a short length extension q16 of the bar Q12.
But by pressing the push-button Q14 before the camshaft has completed its first quarter turn, and while the clutch remains disengaged under the action of the cam portion f4, the bar Q16 is made forward in the loli-i- tudinal direction in the position of fig. 17 and 18, in which this bar positively prevents the clutch from engaging, as well as the exposure, until the machine cycle is almost complete. Bar Q16 and push-button Q14 then automatically return to their nominal position as described below.
To obtain an exceptionally wide spacing between leagues, paragraphs or print pages, the machine has devices which can be operated by means of a handwheel S (fig. 18) placed in the adjustment plate E1 , and which makes it possible to actuate the control mechanism for the advance of the film and the clutch in exactly the same way as that which has been described above, by a complete revolution of this flywheel, while the machine remains stationary.
These devices (fig. 15, 16 and 17) comprise two spaced cam elements S1 and S2, fixed on the rear end of a shaft S3 and cooperating respectively with two vertical levers S4 and. S5 which carry anti-friction rollers s1, s2 directly in front of the cam elements.
The shaft S3 (fig. 17) is journaled in front and rear seats S6 and S7 and can be operated by the handwheel S which, like the cam elements S1 and S2, is also attached to the front end of the tree S3. The levers S4 and S5 are mounted at their lower extremities on separate oscillation shafts s3 of the console S7 and enter, through their upper ends, into corresponding holes q17 and r13 (fig.
18) drilled respectively in the su perior extensions of bars Q12 and R7. The parts are arranged (fig. 14 and 16) in such a way that when the shaft S3 is turned, the larger of the two cam elements SÚ first comes into contact with the roller sÚ of the lever S4 and, through the 'Intermediate the coupling of this lever with the bar R7, causes a partial rotational movement of the oscillating shaft RÚ, which is necessary to actuate the clutch Q and advance the film under the desired conditions.
Then, when the shaft S3 continues to rotate, the smaller cam member S2 comes into contact with the roller s2 of the lever S5 and actuates it so as to print, through its coupling with the horizontal bar Q12 , the rotational movement to the oscillating shaft Q7 which is required to temporarily disengage the clutch Q a moment before the rotational movement of the S-shaft is completed.
The dispensing mechanism has a horizontal slide receiving a reciprocating motion, which operates at the end of the machine cycle to advance a line of dies supported at the dispensing level from the bar of the second elevator into the box. distribution for final distribution.
The slide for moving the lines, not shown, is fixed to the upper end of an arm F3 of great length, vertical and inclined forward, the lower end of which (fig. 19 and 24) is coupled with a sleeve. F4 mounted so as to oscillate around a relatively short shaft F5 (fig. 14) located directly above the posterior end of the longer oscillating shaft RÚ and which is also supported in uprights of the vertical bracket E7.
The sleeve F4 can rotate in one direction to cause the operating stroke of the line displacement slide by a spring F6 and it can receive a rotational movement of a determined angle in the other direction, against the tension of this res comes out, by a vertical rod F7 coupled at its upper end with an arm f6 di rigé laterally from the sleeve. The spring F6 is also mated with the arm f6 of the sleeve F4 and (fig. 23) attaches to the base frame 0, while the connecting rod F7 mates at its lower end with an arm of an angled lever Fs articulated in the E7 console.
The other arm of the angled lever Fs is joined by means of a spring-loaded coupling f 7 with a horizontal transverse bar F9 (fig. 19), axially movable and which is coupled on its side with a lever F1o actuated by a cam and disposed directly below the lever R $ and which, like the Qis lever, is mounted between its ends on the same vertical axis in the fixed console E8.
The lever F1o (fig. 17) is connected to the contiguous end of the transverse bar F9 and comprises an anti-friction roller f $ which comes into contact with a single cam portion. <B> f9, </B> fixed on the outside face of the cam F1. The lever F1e also comprises an element F11, phis short, in the form of a hook;
coming into contact with the vertical oscillating rod Q17 which supports the rear end of the long bar Q16 combined with the line canceling devices described above.
We therefore see that when the machine's cycle is about to end, and that the cam portion f ±) comes into contact with the ga let fg of the lever F1o, the transverse bar F9 raises the vertical rod F7 to counter to the action of the spring F6, thus turning the sleeve F4 in the direction of the train netting the slide for moving the empty lines in its starting position.
At the same time as this movement is accomplished, the hook-shaped element F11 of the lever F1o comes into contact with the oscillating rod Q17 and causes it to oscillate backwards, so as to bring the cancellation devices back into their position. normal position shown in dotted lines (fig. 17 and 18).
Once the machine cycle is complete and the cam portion f 9 has come out of contact with the roller <B> f s, </B> the spring F6 can turn the sleeve in the other direction to allow the slide for moving the lines to complete its operating stroke to achieve the result indicated above.
If we consider again Figs. 1, 2, 5 as well as FIG. 32, which represent the lens holder C2 as well as certain parts immediately in combination with it and which should be described, we see that, as has already been said, the base C4 of the lens holder, as well as that of the head CÚ of the camera, are mounted in an adjustable manner in elongated n guides of the support N frame of the camera and that the objective C12 can be adjusted independently so that the clamping edge of the relatively fixed line clamping jaw on the right side could be projected along a constant vertical line of the film 1 under all conditions of enlargement.
Accordingly, the objective C12 (fig. 5, 18 and 32) is fixed on a rectangular slider T, the position of which can be adjusted horizontally in guides t of a plate TÚ of similar shape, fixed on the vertical support element C13 of the lens holder. The adjustment of the slide T of the objective is carried out automatically when the objective holder C2 has been brought into its various adjustment positions in the manner previously described, and the devices which serve for this purpose include (fig.
5 and 32) a cam T2 in the form of a fixed plate and sector, located directly in front of an anti-friction roller tÚ mounted on the outer end of a horizontal arm t3 directing out from one of the edges of the lens slide T. The plate-shaped cam T2 is fixed on one side of a vertical column O2 starting from the base 0 of the machine and comprises a series of twelve separately adjustable sec tors t4 and forming a cam in front of the roller tÚ of the neck. - slider T of the objective.
A vertical lever T, actuated by a spring and in contact with a stud t5 directed forward from the lens support slider T, resiliently maintains the roller tÚ in contact with one or other of the sectors t4, in the different focusing positions of the device. The lever T3 is mounted oscillating on the front face of the support member C13 and has a short length arm directed downwards, to which is attached a tension spring t6 attached, on the other hand, to the frame.
The shutter, not shown, of the apparatus is hand held normally closed under the tension of a weak spring and opens automatically at the appropriate moment during a cycle of the machine by the movement of a second vertical lever T4 articulated on a protruding lug c2O of the element C13 and directly in contact with the rod t7 of a flexible shaft of small section, which regulates the operation of the shutter.
Since the size of the shutter aperture of the camera as well as the illumination are constant, it is necessary to vary the exposure time to obtain clear images clearly demarcated by a line. of compound matrices, in any of the twelve focus positions. device, Therefore, the shutter first opens at a specified time during a cycle and then closes after the duration of. pose suitable for any chosen magnification, these operations being carried out automatically and without intervention on the part of the operator for any focusing position.
of the device. The mechanism serving for this purpose (fig. 33 <B> Ù </B>. 40) comprises a lever T5 (fig. 37) of irregular shape articulated on a horizontal axis us (fig. 35) of the arm E9 of the frame and arranged in the immediate vicinity of a toothed wheel F12 of large diameter, wedged on - one end of the camshaft F and controlled in a known manner, by means of a clutch actuated by a spring, from a controlled shaft Fis, not shown.
The lever T5 (fig. 33 and 35) has a relatively long arm Ts directed forward, and it is normally held in the position. of fig. 35 against an upper stop screw t9 by a tension spring T7 which is attached to another arm T $ of the lever and to an adjustable device T9 which serves to adjust the spring tension.
The arm T6 of the lever T5 is connected by a vertical connecting rod t1o to the piston t11 of an air shock absorber T10 and ends in an operative connection with an element TÚÚ arranged in the same way and actuating the devices described below (fig. 34). The lever T5 operates during a cycle of the machine under the action of a cam T12 in the form of a plate fixed on the outside face of the wheel F12 and in contact with a roller t12 mounted on a tab t13 projecting towards the high on the lever near its axis of oscillation t8. The wheel F12 also carries a trigger finger T13 separated by a determined number of degrees from the cam plate T12 and able to receive a limited oscillating movement on the wheel against the action of a weak spring t14 in metal wire.
The trigger finger T13 (fig. 36) has on one of its edges an appendage t15 and at its free end a lateral extension t16 in the form of a tooth which, under certain conditions indicated below, comes into contact and actuates a lever. elbow H3 com bined with the main clutch lever H and articulated on a part of the fixed console F9.
The shock absorber T10 (fig. 33 and 34) is supported by a fixed console 03 and is fitted with an adjustable rotating disc T14 (fig. 38) placed directly above the piston tÚÚ and kept in close contact against the lower surface of the head T15 of the shock absorber by tin tightening nut t17 which is mounted on the rod of a clutch element t18 keyed to the disc and maintained normally, in contact with a corresponding clutch element t19 .
The disc T14 is drilled in the vicinity of its outer edge with two groups of twelve holes or exhaust ports t2o and t21 (fig. 40), the dimensions of which vary slightly and which are arranged so that during a half-turn of the disc, the holes of either group can be used at will and in the manner described below. The holes of the chosen group come, in different positions of adjustment of the disc T14, opposite an angular exhaust port t22 drilled in the head of the damper and communicating with the atmosphere.
The adjustment of the position of the disc T14 is effected by a horizontal rack T16, movable along its axis, meshing with a pin T17 (fig. 39) and fixed at one end on a transverse bar T18 arranged in the same way. via a T19 coupling. The pinion T17 is rotatably mounted on a vertical shaft t23 of the clutch element t19, and its upper surface is grooved by diametrically opposed notches t24 into which corresponding tabs of the lower edge of a keyed cap T20 enter. shaft, so that it can be lifted slightly to release its contact with pinion T17 when desired.
The parts are arranged in such a way that the rotational movement of the pinion T17 by the rack T16 also turns the cap T20, and, because it is keyed on the shaft t23 and the two clutch elements t1s and t19 are engaged, it causes the adjustment of the disc T14 by bringing as necessary one of the exhaust ports of a group chosen opposite the exhaust port t22.
The movement of the rack T16 causing the adjustment of the disc T14 in the manner just described is carried out automatically under the action of a cam-shaped plate C14 (fig. 33) with steps, fixed on the base of the lens holder C2 and functioning when the latter comes into its various focusing positions.
The T16 rack (fig. 33 and 34) is mounted and guided in the head of the T10 shock absorber, and the cross bar Tls to which the 1st rack is coupled crosses and extends beyond the opposing side walls of the column. vertical 02.
The cam-shaped plate C14 (fig. 33) comprises a series of twelve steps c21 spaced apart and coming into contact with a roller T21 mounted on the free end of the transverse bar T18. A compression spring T22, applied against one of the side walls of column 02 and to the contact of it pin collar on the bar Tls,
resiliently holds the roller T21 in contact with the steps c21 while the cam-shaped plate C14 moves with the lens holder during focusing operations. However, when it is desired to interfere with the two groups of holes in disc T14, the T2o cap is first slightly raised to stop its contact with pinion T17, then it is rotated by l80 with respect to pinion T17 to transmitting a similar rotational movement to the disc through its coupling with the clutch elements t18 and t19, and it is finally seated in the notches t24 of the pinion.
To allow the T5 lever to quickly complete its return stroke without being subject to the retarding influence of the piston t11, the T10 shock absorber is also fitted with a splined decompression valve T23 (fig. 39) placed in a chamber t25 formed in the head T15 of the shock absorber and communicating through an orifice of reduced section t26 with the compression chamber, in front of the piston t11.
Valve T23 can move up and down a limited distance moving towards and away from its closed positions (fig. 38), and is controlled by movement of lever T5 via a push rod. vertical T24 supported and guided by upper and lower protruding tabs t27 of the T1o shock absorber.
The rod T24 is normally supported by a collar in the position of FIG. 38, in which its upper end releases the valve T23, and its lower end is in contact with a finger t29 fixed in an adjustable manner on the arm T6 for controlling the piston of the lever T5.- But, when the arm T6 and piston tÚÚ are almost at the end of their upstroke under the action of the tension spring T7, the rod T24 is lifted so as to open the valve T23 and thus allow the compressed air in front of the piston to escape more quickly.
At this moment, the arm T6 of the lever T5 comes into contact with the aforementioned control element TÚÚ which it lifts (fig. 34), said element being able to receive a limited vertical movement in both directions, because 'it is joined by a screw coupling and window t3e with an extension O4 directed downwards from the fixed console 03; it comprises at its upper and lower ends two respective tabs t31 and t32, projecting out from an edge of this element in the path of the arm T6 of the lever.
When the control element TÚÚ rises, it actuates, by means of a small angled lever T26, a horizontal rod T26, which is arranged below the frame N for supporting the device (fi, g. 32 ) and mates with the lower end of a relatively long T27 arm, directed downward from a T28 swing caliper, described below.
The angled lever T25 is articulated on the lower end of the extension 04 of the console and has two respective arms t33 and. t34, the first of which enters a notch formed in the contiguous edge of the control element T11 and the other is joined by a pin-and-window coupling t35 with the horizontal crossbar T26. LTn comes out.
tension t36, arranged between the arm t34 and a lug integral with the bar T26, maintains these elements elastically in the position of FIG. 34.
The bracket T28 (fig. 1, \? And. 32) is mounted so as to oscillate on either side about an axis t37 supported in a fixed bracket N6, and it has at its upper end a bar T29 with longitudinal groove that is.
in contact with an arm t38 of short length, directed downwards (fig. 32), with the shutter control lever T4, already described, and which is long enough to operate this lever in any which adjustment position of the lens holder C2.
One therefore sees that when the cam-shaped plate Tl'- comes into contact. during a cycle of the machine with the roller t12 of the lever T5, this lever is pushed down to. against the tension of its spring, sufficiently. far to lower the control element Tll due to its contact with the lower leg t32 of this. element.
As a result, the small angled lever T25 turns clockwise (fig. 34) and by means of the spring t36 pulls the horizontal bar T26 along its axis in the direction operating the lever T4 and causing the camera shutter to open for exposure.
The length of the installation is determined by the setting position of the perforated disc T14 which regulates the speed at which the piston tÚÚ of the damper T10 and the lever T5 can complete their entire return stroke, and given that with the usual enlargements and reductions between 6 and 24 points it only takes a few seconds, they are easily. obtained during the time necessary to complete a complete normal cycle of the machine.
In this case, the lever T5 has time to come to its normal resting position against the upper stop screw t9, its tab t13 projecting upwards being in the path of the appendage of the trigger finger T '13 above, so that this finger, passing in front of this tab, oscillates slightly against the action of its spring (fig. 36) thus allowing the extension t16 to disengage the elbow lever H already described .
But in the case where the desired enlargements are more considerable and reach for example 60 or 72 points, the return stroke of the lever T5 of the shock absorber suffers Ln abnormal delay and it follows that the extension t16 of the finger of T13 release, passing in front of lever H3 (fig. 37), actuates it, and this lever, coming into contact with a horizontal arm H4 of short length of the clutch lever <I> I7 </I> (fig. 33), automatically stops the machine.
Then, due to the slippage of the main clutch, the extension t16 of the trigger finger slowly moves away. elbow lever H3, allowing the clutch to re-engage and automatically reset. machine running.
It can therefore be seen in summary that after having fully deployed the camera and adjusted the position of the cylindrical adjustment dial to adjust the advancement mechanism of the. film, then adjusted the cover plates and the stopper drum of the device, we fold the device until its. head and. its lens holder stop in their focusing position. The starting of the cycle of the machine and the operations which are carried out during the cycle are carried out in their order of succession determined in the known manner until the cycle is terminated.
If for some known reason the compound line is not brought by the downward movement of the first elevator to the proper position in front of the apparatus, or is not properly justified between its clamping jaws, some devices safety devices described above automatically stop the machine. Likewise, if before the justification operations, the forward movement of the die alignment bar is interrupted, a third safety device comes into action and causes the machine to stop.
Once the causes of these incidents have been remedied, it is easy to restart the machine's operating cycle by pushing the button with the appropriate indication placed in the correct position in front of the machine. A second push button, combined with the restart button, also makes it possible to stop the machine at any time at will during a cycle. In addition, it is possible to cancel for any reason a line correctly composed and introduced into the machine without interrupting the cycle, by pushing a third button before the instant of exposure or during. that the main camshaft completes its first quarter turn.
We can. therefore pass the canceled line through the machine and distribute it, while all the elements on which the third button acts automatically return to their normal position. Line spacings between paragraphs, pages or any other printed material can be easily established to the extent and under the conditions desired while the machine is in operation. rest by several successive complete turns of a small handwheel coupled with the film advancement mechanism and also placed at a convenient point in front of the machine.
The synchronization and the exposure time in the various focusing positions of the apparatus are automatic and controlled by the main shaft, through the intermediary of the damping mechanism described last.
