Device for mounting a watch in a motor car. The object of the present invention is a device for mounting a watch in a motor vehicle.
This watch is. frictionally rotated. reduced, for example by means of a ball bearing, in a housing of the movable part of the steering apparatus.
One of the main drawbacks of mounting a watch on the moving part of the steering apparatus lies in the fact that a watch is simply attached to this moving part. normally follows its movements and does not always remain in the same orientation or angular position in relation to the driver.
The mounting device according to the invention protects. this drawback, because it is characterized by means connected to the fixed tube surrounding the transmission shaft of the steering apparatus, so as to maintain the watch in a determined position with respect to said tube, whatever the movements of the watch. movable part of said apparatus, these means comprising a connecting member arranged so as to leave the watch free with respect to the tube when said means accidentally exert an excessive braking moment on the movable part of the steering apparatus, and by means of winding means arranged between the movable part of the steering apparatus and the watch.
A watch mounted in this way not only remains in a determined orientation relative to the driver, but the rotational movements of the steering apparatus ensure its winding.
In addition, if it happened by accident that the means connecting the watch to the tube become blocked and tend to hamper the movements of the steering apparatus, the latter would be immediately released thanks to said connecting member.
Two embodiments of a mounting device according to the present invention are shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing. .
Fig. 1 shows a partial axial section of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 shows the second embodiment of the mounting device in a view similar to that of FIG. 1, and fig. 3 is a plan view of the second embodiment.
In these two embodiments, the watch is mounted in the central part of a motor car steering wheel. In the first, the axis of the watch coincides with that of the steering wheel, while in the second, the watch is placed eccentrically.
In fig. 1, we see the flywheel 1 attached to, the propeller shaft 2 by the bolt 3 and the key 4. The tube 5 surrounds the propeller shaft and the shoulder 6 of the flywheel is fitted inside the part. upper of said tube, so as to make the axes of the flywheel and the tube coincide.
Watch 7 is fitted in a housing provided in the central part of the steering wheel. The axis of the watch substantially coincides with the axis of the steering wheel. and, therefore, of the tube. The watch is adjusted in its housing so that it can turn freely. The ball bearing 8 is intended to reduce friction. The watch is kept fixed with respect to this tube, and therefore also with respect to the driver, thanks to the toothed wheel 9 fixed by a screw outside the upper part of the tube, to the two pinions of identical teeth 10 and 11 , integral with the axis 12 which can rotate freely in its housing drilled in a part of the flywheel and with the toothing 1.3 provided in the lower part of the watch case.
This toothing 13 and that of the wheel being identical, it is clear that the watch remains fixed relative to the driver, whatever the movements of the steering wheel, while the pinions 10 and 1.1. as well as the axis 12 move with the flywheel while rolling around the watch case and the toothed wheel 9.
A thin plate 14 is fixed to the flywheel by screws, one of which is shown at 15 in the figure. A wheel 16 is riveted to the center of said plate, the axis of this wheel substantially coinciding with the axes of the watch and of the steering wheel. Wheel 16 is. meshed with a pin 17 fixed to the axis of the watch winder. The wheel 16 turns. with the flywheel., while the pinion axis 17 does not change position, the movements of the flywheel rotate this pinion around its axis and re-mount the watch.
It could happen that 1-'or the other & 5 gears described accidentally jams, which would have the consequence of not moving the flywheel. To exclude the dangers of such an eventuality, the pinion 10 is coupled to the pin 12 via a thin pin 18. This pin is thin enough that in case of jamming of one or the Another of the gears described, it is protruding without requiring an additional force too great for the rotation of the flywheel, that is to say without significantly impeding it. movements. It is planned to combine this watch with the acoustic warning device of the car.
To this end, it suffices to mount the watch in such a way that it can effect a small axial displacement such that when the watch is pushed axially inside the steering wheel, a contact of the circuit of the warning device is made. closes, whereas normally the watch is pushed towards the outside of the steering wheel, for example by a spring.
In the second embodiment shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the watch is. my tee in an eccentric housing 19 of the central part of the steering wheel. This last one is. fixed to the transmission shaft in the same way as in fig. 1. The watch is adjusted in the same way in its housing using a ball bearing 8.
The watch is mounted in such a way that it remains in a defined angular position relative to the driver, that is to say that its axis moves around the steering wheel, but without the watch turning on itself, when the steering wheel. rotates so that the noon on the dial, for example, always remains in the upper position.
Maintaining the angular position of the watch with respect to the tube 5 surrounding the transmission shaft 2 is obtained here in a similar manner by a toothed wheel 20 fixed to the outside of the upper part of the tube by a screw, two identical toothed pinions 21 and \ '\ ?, integral with an axis 23 which can rotate freely in its housing drilled in a part of the flywheel, and the toothing 24 provided in the. lower part of the watch case.
This toothing 24 and that of the wheel 20 being. identical, the watch remains true to itself, whatever. the movements of the flywheel, because the pinions 21 and 22 as well as the axis 23 move with the flywheel by rolling around the toothed wheel 20 for example in the dextrorsum direction, the pinion 22 then driving the toothing 24 in the sinistrorsum direction and thus rotating watch 7 on itself, at an angle equal to, but in the opposite direction, the angle of rotation of the steering wheel.
A thin plate 25 est. fixed on the bottom of the housing. 19 and it carries a toothed wheel 26 whose axis substantially coincides with that of the watch. This wheel 26 is engaged with a pinion 27 fixed on an axis of the watch winder. The axes of the wheel 26 and of the pinion 27 define a plane which remains parallel to itself for any movement of the flywheel, and the wheel 26 rotates with respect to this plane by an angle equal to that of the rotation. of the steering wheel. himself. Consequently, the pinion 27 will turn on itself and wind the watch.
Also provided here is a thin pin 28, coupling the pinion 21 to the axis 23, and intended to be sheared if any two of the gears described were blocked by accident.
While manual winding and time setting of the watch in the first embodiment are provided by the bezel, in this second embodiment, these operations have the advantage of being able to be performed from below. by means of a shaft 29 fitted with a chicken 30.
This second mounting device will be preferred to the first, for example in types of car where the central part of the steering wheel is already quite crowded.
It is also planned in the spirit of the present invention to replace, if necessary, in this second embodiment, the two coaxial pinions of the connecting device by a chain or by a tape.
In the first case, we can replace the toothed wheel integral with the tube surrounding the transmission shaft of the flywheel by a chain wheel, and a chain wheel will be attached to the watch so that the latter wheel is located at the same height. than that fixed to the tube, these two wheels being identical. The chain will pass on these two wheels and will make the watch turn at an angle equal, but in the opposite direction, to the angle of rotation of the steering wheel, thus maintaining the watch in a determined orientation, whatever the movements. In this case, a toothing could also be provided on the watch case, this toothing being identical to that of the wheel fixed to said tube, - and being provided substantially at there the same height as this last wheel.
In the second case, provision is simply made to replace the toothed wheel fixed to said tube and the toothing provided on the watch case by two smooth cylinders of equal diameters and located at the same height. The ribbon passing without slipping on these two cylinders will play the same role as the chain in the first case.
