Process for the production of machine parts from heat-resistant alloys. The invention relates to a method for manufacturing machine parts from heat-resistant alloys containing chromium and nickel.
Examples of heat-resistant alloys that can be considered are: alloys based on (at least 50% of the alloy) nickel or nickel and cobalt (with cobalt not exceeding 40% of the alloy) with a chromium content of up to 45%, which to a precipitation hardening treatment because they contain one or more of the elements molybdenum, tungsten, iron, manganese, aluminum, vanadium, titanium, niobium, silicon and carbon, the carbon not exceeding 1% and neither the titanium nor the Silicon exceed 5% and none of the additional elements mentioned exceeds 25% and the total content of all these elements is not less than 40%.
In addition to the above-mentioned elements and insignificant impurities, the alloys mentioned, for example, can contain small amounts of nitrogen, magnesium, copper, calcium and rare earth metals (including mixed metal), which do not exceed 1% individually and do not exceed 31% in total / a are included.
A number of such alloys are known to those skilled in the art which are subjected to a solution treatment at a temperature between 1050 and 1200 ° C. and a subsequent precipitation hardening treatment.
When setting the time of solution treatment at a selected one. Tempera ture a limit has been imposed on the duration of the treatment because of the coarsening of the grain of the alloy, especially at high temperatures, as mentioned above. The coarsening of the grain does not necessarily mean a reduction in the creep strength of the manufactured machine part.
However, if the solution treatment is carried out at temperatures in the specified level and the time is shortened in order to prevent the grain from becoming coarser, no improvement in the creep properties is achieved, and the creep resistance may even be lower.
The alloys of the type described are particularly used in the manufacture of parts of combustion gas turbines that are exposed to high pressure at high temperatures and which require high creep resistance and high fatigue limit as a desirable property of the finished part.
We have found that machine parts made from alloys of the type described have better creep properties if the solution treatment is extended beyond the previously applied time, although we are aware that the grain may become coarser.
The present invention aims to obtain improved creep properties and to avoid a coarser grain size in the finished machine part.
A preferred composition of an alloy that comes into consideration in the present process is, for example, the following chromium 20%, cobalt 20%, molybdenum 6%. Titanium 21/2%, aluminum 1% and nickel the rest.
Experiments with such an alloy at a tensile load of 2360 kg / cm2 at 815 ° C., with the samples being subjected to solution treatment at various temperatures, followed by precipitation hardening treatment, gave the results shown in Table A.

<tb> 6 <SEP> 1200 <SEP> 16 <SEP> 800 <SEP> 146 <SEP> 8 <SEP> coarse From this it can be seen that the solution treatment at a higher temperature, carried out for a time sufficient to at Lower temperature to give a fine grain resulted in a significant improvement in creep strength with an undesirable increase in grain size as a concomitant phenomenon.
It is common in the manufacture of machine parts from cast bars made of heat-resistant alloys of the type described to subject the bar to hot working, such as forging, rolling and pressing, in order to obtain a bar material, the parts of which can finally be machined, or that in In certain cases, the bar material can be subjected to a further hot treatment in order to come out exactly or approximately in the desired shape, whereby the duration of the machining can be reduced.
It has been a practical practice to perform the solution treatment in addition to hot working and then to carry out the precipitation hardening treatment after machining. The method according to the invention for the manufacture of machine parts made of heat-resistant alloys containing chromium and nickel, with deformation of the machine part in the heat and a solution treatment in the heat, is characterized in that a) the deformation in the heat the greater part takes place before the solution treatment, b) the solution treatment takes place for 5 to 10 hours at 1050 to 1200 C, the solution treatment is followed by a grain refinement process, which c)
consists of the end phase of the deformation in the heat and d.) heating the machine part for 5 minutes to 1 hour at 850 to 10500 C, -before e) a precipitation hardening treatment for 10 to 20 hours takes place at 70.0 to 800 C.
The invention not only enables. because of the grain refinement process, an increased temperature in the solution treatment; For example, 1100-12000 C, for a longer period of time than was previously considered possible, but it also allows the achievement of a fine grain size with existence when the solution treatment at a lower temperature, for example at 1050 to 1100 C.
The machine parts produced in the course of the process can still be treated mechanically. This mechanical treatment can be carried out after the grain refinement process has been completed and before the precipitation hardening treatment is started, or after the latter treatment.
When carrying out the method according to the invention, it is advisable to carry out the deformation in the heat to 75 to 95% before the solution treatment and to 5 to 25% after the latter. Above. Percentages are expressed here and elsewhere in the description in the ratio of the reduction in a mean cross-sectional area, as it results from deformation in the heat.
When carrying out the process, an alloy can be used that contains aluminum, molybdenum and titanium as hardening elements, as described in Swiss Patent No. 275503, namely an alloy based on nickel, cobalt and chromium containing: Cobalt 10 to 40% chromium 10 to 30% molybdenum 2 to 18% aluminum 0.2 to 8.6% e titanium 0.2 to 4.4% where the sum of the molybdenum content, twice the aluminum content and four times the titanium content in% gives a total of 16 to 20%.
Alloys that fall into this group are referred to here as chromium-nickel balance factor alloy rings.
Table B below illustrates the significant advantage that resulted from machine parts when carrying out the process according to the invention with a chromium-nickel compensation factor alloy of the following composition: chromium 20% cobalt 20%, molybdenum 6%, titanium 21/2 %, Aluminum 1%, the rest nickel.

that the products obtained by the method according to the invention (see tests C, E and CT) have essentially the same creep duration as those of the simple solution treatment. iien products (sample A), but at the same time still offer the advantage of a finer grain size. It is known that fine grains are of great importance in fatigue and impact tests on the alloy and especially in turbine blades.
As set out above, the invention comprises the working methods described and illustrated by the tests C, - E and G, which were carried out with the aforementioned chromium-nickel compensation factor alloy. Preferably, the forging or other deformation of the alloy takes place in the heat up to an extent of 75 to 95%, followed by a solution treatment of 6 to 8 hours at 1120 to 1180 C, after which the grain refinement process takes place, be standing in the completion of the deformation in particular at 1050 to 1200 C and subsequent heating for 5 minutes to 1 hour at 1000 to 1050 C, whereupon the precipitation hardening treatment for 10 to 20 hours at 700 to 800 C takes place.
Another alloy that has been tried and tested with advantageous results is: chromium 18 to 22 0/0, titanium 2.2 to 2.8%, aluminum about 0.5% and the balance nickel. When using this alloy, the heating is after the end. The deformation phase is expediently carried out at 850 to 1000 C.
Furthermore, the process can be carried out in such a way that the alloy is forged up to about 85% and then subjected to a solution treatment at 1080 to 1150 C, whereupon the grain refinement process takes place, which results in the completion of the deformation and heating at 1000 up to 1050 C. Finally, the cutter part is subjected to precipitation hardening treatment at 700 to 800 C for 10 to 20 hours.
One embodiment of the method for manufacturing gas turbine blades includes machining the blades from hot rolled or sawed bars. The hot deformation is interrupted when the average cross-section of the rod is 5 to 25 / o larger than is ultimately required. The solution treatment at high temperature is carried out at this stage, followed by hot forming until the desired size is reached, i.e. until the cross-sectional area is reduced by 5 to 25%.
The grain refining process is completed by heating for 5 minutes to 1 hour at 850 to 1050 C, and the precipitation hardening treatment is carried out before or after machining to convert the blade into the final shape. Furthermore, the last-mentioned machining can be followed by a heat treatment for up to 1 hour at 850 to 1050 C for the purpose of avoiding undesirable surface hardening resulting from the machining.
The turbine blades can also be machined from drop forged pieces, the hot drop forging treatment being interrupted when the average cross-section of the die is 5 to 25% larger than the desired final size of the drop forged piece. At this stage, the forging undergoes the solution treatment, preferably for 6-8 hours at a temperature of 1120 to 1180 ° C. The drop forging process is then completed, and heating takes place for 5 minutes to 1 hour at 850 to <B > 10500 </B> C.
The precipitation hardening process can be carried out either before or after machining.
