Closing device. The present invention relates to a closing device intended to join two parts together and particularly applicable to trunks, suitcases, travel articles, cases, boxes of all kinds.
This device is characterized in that, in turn of an axis carried by one of the parts to be joined and directed perpendicularly to the external face of this part, pivots a housing provided, on one of its lateral faces, with a opening through which this box engages on a thimble which is fixedly carried by the other part to be joined and which is provided with an elastically retractable boss which is retracted when the thimble fits into the box and cooperates with a shoulder provided on the inner face of the housing adjacent to the die to retain the housing in the closed position.
The housing may advantageously comprise a lock operable by a key and the bolt or bolt of which cooperates with a stop integral with the part which carries the housing, so as to prevent rotation of the housing.
In the accompanying drawing is shown, by way of example, an embodiment of the closure device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevation of the device in the closed position.
Fig. 2 is the same elevation of the positive device in the open position.
Fig. 3 is a section of the device in the closed position. Fig. 4 is a section of the device in the open position.
It will be assumed that in the example shown, the device is applied to a case comprising a body and a cover and that this device is intended to hold the cover against the body.
A plate 1 is fixed by two screws, rivets or the like 2 on the body of the case. On this plate 1 is applied the bottom 3 of a first box without a cover, which is held against the plate 1 by a rivet 4 playing at the same time the role of pivot axis of the bottom 3 on the plate 1. The bottom 3 is folded over its edges so as to constitute the side walls 5 and 6 of the box. These side walls extend beyond the bottom 3 of one of the sides of this bottom and are bent at about 90 at at least one of the ends of the box to form an end wall or at least parts 7 and 8 of this end wall.
A tab 9 pushed back at right angles into the plate 1 serves as a stop for the side walls 5 and 6 in order to limit in both directions the pivoting of the base 3 on the plate.
On the cover of the case is fixed, vis-à-vis the plate 1, a hollow die 10 by means of two screws, rivets or analogous members 11. This die has tabs 12 which engage in notches 13 formed in a rim 14 of the plate 1 adjacent to the die 10; in this way, the die 10 can be released from the plate in the longitudinal direction of the closure device when it comes to lifting the cover relative to the body of the case, but this die cannot move transversely by compared to plate 1.
Inside the hollow die is housed a leaf spring 15 in which is stamped a boss 16 which passes through an opening 17 drilled in the side wall 18 of the die opposite to the plate 1. The leaf 15 being elastic, the boss can s '' retract towards the inside of the die under the effect of pressure.
A second box, reversed compared to. the first, with which it forms a housing and the bottom 20 of which is opposite the pivoting bottom 3, engages via its side walls 21 and 22 against the outer faces of the side walls 5 and 6 and, by one of its end walls 23, against the outer face of the end wall 7, 8 of the first box. The end wall 24 opposite the wall 23 engages against the wall 18 of the die 10 in the closed position shown in FIG. 1. To allow the second box 20-21 22_23-24 .de disengage from the die 10, an opening 25 having the dimensions of the section of the die 10 is made in the side face 21 of this second box.
When the clasp is in the closed position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the wall 5 of the first box abuts against the stop 9. When the assembly formed by the first and second boxes is rotated in the direction of clockwise, the opening 25 slides on the die 10 and it is the wall 6 of the first box which comes to rest against the stop 9 to limit the movement to the opening position shown in FIGS. 2 and 4.
The wall 24 of the second box is seen on its internal face, on the side of the opening 25, of an extra thickness 26 which, when the box moves, slides against the wall 18 of the die 10. When the device is in the position of fig. 2 and that the housing is rotated counterclockwise, the second box engages through its opening 25 on the die 10, and the allowance 26 \ slips against the wall 18 until the The opening 25 arrives against the elastic boss 16.
Continuing the movement, the extra thickness 26 pushes the boss 16 inwardly of the die to the other end (the extra thickness where the boss 7.6 will again come out of the die and prevent the return movement of the casing. pressing against the shoulder 27 formed by the extra thickness 26. The device is thus in the closed position.
It is obvious that instead of employing an elastic blade 15 with the boss 16, one could use a stamped or collared part or a ball pushed by a spring through the opening 17 of the die.
To keep the first and second boxes assembled, the tabs 28 and 29 extending the wall 23 are folded twice at 90 and overlap the parts 7 and 8 of the first box. Likewise, a tab 30, formed in the wall 21 of the second box, engages in a notch 31 made in the wall 5 of the first box.
The device can be supplemented advantageously by a lock of any type. In the example shown, a bolt 32, constituted by an elastic strip, is mounted in the first box and has a notch 33 in which a key can be engaged entering through the hole 36 made in the bottom 20 of the second box and guided on the stud 34 carried by the bottom 3 of the first box.
By turning the key in one direction, the end 35 of the bolt is placed on the face of the stop 9 opposite to the wall 5, so that the. wall 5 and. the bolt 32 prevents any pivoting of the housing; by turning the key in the opposite direction, the end 35 of the bolt rises and. moves away from the stopper 9, so that the device can then be operated as explained above.
