Process for the production of dyes. It has been found that the already known production of dyes by coupling tetrazotized 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl with sulfonic acid group-free coupling components can be carried out in a favorable manner if the coupling in one Medium is taken before that contains a water-soluble, neutral, organic solvent.
Water-soluble, neutral, organic solvents which are suitable for use in the present process are, for example, glycerine and ethylglycol. to mention. Above all, those water-soluble, neutral, organic solvents are suitable here which can be removed with steam, such as.
B. acetonitrile. Among the latter, those are particularly valuable which owe their water solubility to the presence of oxygen in the molecule; as an example can be mentioned here: furfural, but primarily never those solvents which are also miscible with water in any ratio and only contain the atoms G, H and 0, such as acetone, ethyl methyl ketone, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, dioxane and above especially monoalcohols with 1 to 3 carbon atoms, such as methanol, ethanol, n- or iso-propanol.
In the present process, coupling components free of sulfonic acid groups can be used which owe their coupling ability to a reactive aromatic atom group or a reactive methylene group. Examples of coupling components that can be mentioned are: pyrazolones, such as. B.
3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, acetoacetic esters, acetoacetic arylides, such as acetoacetic analide, oxybenzenes, such as 1-oxy-4-methylbenzene, 5-11-ethyl-2-oxyben- zol-l-carboxylic acid. Particularly valuable results are obtained when using coupling components of the naphthalene series. Furthermore, coupling components come into consideration, which dyes he give,
which are capable of forming heavy metal complexes, and among these especially those which contain a group in the ortho position to the coupling point which, together with the hydroxyl group of the diazo component, can form heavy metal complexes, in particular a hydroxyl group.
For example, coupling components of the naphthalene series which are free of sulfonic acid groups and which couple in the ortho position to an Ilydroxylgruppe lead to valuable results in the present process, e.g.
B. 1- Oxy naphthalene sulfonamides, such as 2-oxynaphthalene-6-sulfonamide and 1-0xynaphthalene-3-sulfonamide, also dioxynaphthalene-mono- a.lkyiä.ther, such as 2-0xy-6-methoxynaphthalene, 2, 7-dioxynaphthalene monoglycerin ether, also aminooxynaphthalenes,
in which the amino group can be free of substituents or contain such as 2-amino-7-oxynaphthalene, 2-amino-5-oxynaphthalene, 2-ß-oxyethylamino-6-oxynaphthalene. Above all, however, oxynaphthalenes which are free of other substituents and which couple in the ortho position to a hydroxyl group are valuable, such as B.
1,3-, 1,5-, 1,6-, 1,8-dioxynaphthalene, but especially heteronuclear ss, ss'-dioxynaphthalene, such as 2,6- and 2,7-dioxynaphthalene.
According to the present process, asymmetric dyes can also be produced by combining, for example, 1 mole of tetrazotized 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl with 1 mole of two different coupling components.
The tetrazotization of the 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-di-aminodiphenyl can be carried out in a customary, known manner, for. B. with the help of hydrochloric acid and Na trium nitrite. As a rule, it is expedient to first neutralize the tetrazo suspension and then to deposit the tetrazo compound and, for example, to combine it as a filter cake in the presence of the organic solvent with the coupling component.
The coupling temperature is advantageously kept low, especially at the start of the reaction. The coupling can take place in an acidic, neutral, but preferably alkaline medium.
The coupling compound is worked up in a manner known per se, for example by distilling off the solvent and evaporation or by diluting and - optionally after reducing the pH by adding acid - by salting out.
Methods have already been described in the literature (e.g. French patent specification No. 889850) which deal with the preparation of azo dyes from tetrazotized 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl. The coupling reactions in question are, however, carried out without the addition of neutral organic solvents.
Compared to these known processes, that of the present invention offers the advantage that purer dyes are obtained and a better yield is achieved. This advantage is particularly beneficial when starting from coupling components of the naphthalene series which are free of sulfonic acid groups and which couple in the ortho position to form an —OH group.
For example, the dyes produced by the process of French patent specification no. 888241. from tetrazotized 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl and 2,6- or 2,7 -Dioxynaphthalene have a very large Ge content of impurities, which have an adverse effect, especially when dyeing, the corresponding dyes can be obtained by the present process practically completely or at least largely free of such impurities.
The following examples serve to illustrate the invention. The parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1.- 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl are tetrazotized in the usual way. The tetrazo compound is neutralized, filtered off and introduced into a solution of 33 parts 2, cooled to about 50,
6-Dioxynaphthalene in 70 parts of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether. 27 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution are then slowly added and the mixture is stirred at room temperature until the coupling has ended. After dilution with water, a little common salt is added, the dyestuff which has separated out is filtered off, then washed and dried in vacuo at a moderate temperature.
The dye dissolves with a green-blue color in dilute sodium hydroxide solution and dyes cellulose fibers in blue tones, which turn into a washable and lightfast navy blue when treated with copper salts. Example 2 The tetrazo compound obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl is introduced into a solution of 33 parts of 2,6-dioxynaphthalene in 100 parts of acetone .
At 2 to 50, 20 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution are added dropwise in a quarter of an hour and the mixture is stirred for a few hours at a slowly increasing temperature until the formation of the dye has ended. After evaporation and drying in vacuo, a blue-black powder is obtained that dissolves in water with a blue color and stains cellulose fibers in reddish blue tones, which turn into a washable and lightfast marine blue when treated with copper salts.
Example 3: 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl are converted into the tetrazo compound in the customary manner, the same is deposited and converted into a solution of 34 parts of 2.7 -Dioxynaphthalene entered in 120 parts of dioxane. At 0 to 50 a solution of 20 parts of calc is slowly added. Add soda in 80 parts of water and stir for a few hours. A dye is obtained which dyes cellulose fibers in red-blue shades which, when treated with copper salts, give a lightfast and washfast red-tinged navy blue.
Example 4 The tetrazo compound obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl is introduced into a solution of 33 parts of 2,6-dioxynaphthalene in Form about 30% aqueous paste in 100 parts of ethanol. At 2 to 50, 11 parts of calc are added in small portions. Add soda and stir for a long time at 5 to 200 until the end of the coupling. After dilution with water, the solvent is generated, the precipitated dye is filtered off and dried. at a moderate temperature.
A blue-black powder is obtained which has the same properties as the dye obtained according to Example 1.
Example 5: The tetrazo compound obtained and deposited from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl is introduced into a solution of 33 parts 2 with ice-cooling, 6-dioxynaphthalene in 100 parts of methanol. A solution of 15 parts of potash in 50 parts of water is then added dropwise over the course of an hour, and the mixture is stirred for some time at 5 to 150 parts until the coupling has ended.
The disazo dye obtained is worked up in a suitable manner and, after drying, a blue-black powder which shows the same coloring properties as the dye obtained according to Example 1 is obtained.
Example 6 The tetrazo compound obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl is introduced into a solution of 33 parts of 2,6-dioxynaphthalene in 50 parts of 60% ethyl alcohol. 17 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution are then added in small portions over the course of half an hour and the mixture is stirred for a few hours until the coupling has ended. The alcohol is distilled off in vacuo and dried at a moderate temperature. The dye shows the same properties as the product obtained according to Example 1.
If you use 2,7-dioxynaphthalene instead of 2,6-, you get red-tinged navy blue.
With 2-oxynaphthalene-6-sulfamide instead of 2,6-dioxynaphthalene, a bluish violet is obtained. Example 7 The tetrazo compound obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl is introduced into a solution of 33 parts of 2,6-dioxynaphthalene in 160 parts of acetonitrile. At 4 to 80, 20 parts of calc are added in small portions. Soda is added and the mixture is stirred for five to six hours at room temperature until the coupling has ended.
The completely separated dye is filtered off, washed off and dried in vacuo. The dye dyes cellulose fibers from alkaline baths in blue tones, which turn into a lightfast and washfast navy blue when treated with copper salts.
Example 8: The neutralized and separated tetrazo compound Jung obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl in the usual way is carried into a slurry of 33 Parts of 2,6-dioxynaphthalene in 100 parts of glycerol and 50 parts of water, stirred to a thin paste and cooled to 40. Here, 40 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution are slowly added and the mixture is stirred for a few hours at 5 to 150 to terminate the clutch.
It is worked up in a suitable manner and, after drying, a dye which has properties similar to those obtained in Example 1 is obtained. Example 9 The tetrazo compounds obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl are introduced into a solution of 33 parts of 2,6-dioxynaphthalene, cooled to 50% in 100 parts of furfural and slowly adds 40 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution. After a few hours, the coupling is complete and the dye is separated in a suitable manner, e.g.
B. by diluting with water and precipitating with cooking salt, from, washes and dries at a moderate temperature. The solvent can be regenerated in a suitable manner. The dye shows properties similar to those obtained in Example 1.
Example 10 The tetrazo compound obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl is introduced into a solution of 9.8 parts of 3-methyl which has been cooled to 50% -5-pyrazolone in 100 parts of methyl alcohol and 60 parts of a 30% strength aqueous sodium acetate solution. The mixture is stirred for twelve to fifteen hours at 8 to 120, until no more Tetrazov compound can be detected.
Another 9.8 parts of 3-methyl-5-pyrazolone are then added and 27 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution are added dropwise at 8 to 100 within an hour and the mixture is stirred at 10 to 200 until the coupling is complete. The dye is suitably used, e.g. B. by diluting with water and neutralize, deposited and ge dried in a vacuum.
A dark brown powder is obtained which dissolves in dilute sodium hydroxide solution with a red-orange color and dyes cellulose fibers by the one- or two-bath copper plating process in washable and lightfast, bluish burgundy shades.
Example 11: The tetrazo compound obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl is introduced into a solution, cooled to 20, of 1.6 parts of 2,6-dioxynaphthalene and 16 parts of 2,7-dioxynaphthalene in 30 parts of ethyl alcohol, 40 parts of water and 13.3 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution. 24 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution are then slowly added dropwise and the mixture is stirred at from 5 to 150 until the coupling has ended. The dye is deposited in the usual way, filtered and dried in vacuo.
A dark blue powder is obtained which dyes cellulose fibers from an alkaline bath using the one or two bath copper plating process in lightfast and washfast, reddish navy blue tones.
Example 12: The tetrazo compound obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl is introduced into a solution of 32 parts of a mixture of 2.5, cooled to 00 - and 2,8-aminonaphthol, which was obtained by alkali salt of a technical mixture of 2,5- and 2,8-naphthylaininosulfonic acid, in 100 parts of ethyl alcohol and 20 parts of a 56% potassium hydroxide solution. The mixture is stirred at 0 to 100 until the coupling is complete and the dye is worked up in the customary manner.
After drying in vacuo, a black powder is obtained which dyes cellulose fibers from alkaline dye baths in violet-black, lightfast and washfast shades using the one- or two-bath re-coppering process.
Example 13: The tetrazo compound obtained from 21.6 parts of 3,3'-dioxy-4,4'-diamino-diphenyl is carried into a solution of 33 parts of 1,5-dioxynaphthalene cooled to 00 100 parts of ethanol and 36 parts of solid caustic potash slowly sam at 0 to 5 and stirred until the coupling is complete.
Ilierauf is diluted with water and the dye is separated off by neutralization with hydrochloric acid. A black powder is obtained which dyes cellulose fibers from an alkaline bath by the one or two bath re-coppering process in greenish blue-black, light and washable shades.
If, for example, 2,6-dioxynaphthalene monoglycerol ether is used instead of 1,5-dioxynaphthalene, a marine blue is obtained.
