Sehnelldrehstahllegierung.
Patent 131842 zugrunde liegen.
Sehnell turning steel alloy. It is known that in high-speed steels to which higher levels of vanadium are added to increase performance, the carbon content must be increased above the normal level. The vanadium namely forms carbides with a high carbon content and thus removes carbon from the base mass, which means that it loses its hardenability and tempering resistance. This can only be compensated by increasing the carbon content linearly with increasing vanadium content.
So are z. B. high-speed steels are known which have a tungsten content of 15-19%, a chromium content of up to 5%, a cobalt content of up to 3% and 5% vanadium,
the carbon content depending on the level of the vanadium content is 0.75-1.20 per cent (U.S. Patent 1621886).
The same effect as vanadium was also attributed to cobalt in steels with 3 to 20 0% cobalt and high-speed steels with high cobalt and vanadium content are known (ö.
P. 131842, D. I1. P. 605834) in which the carbon as a function of the vanadium and cobalt content while adhering to mathematically established ratio values, namely by 0.16% per 1 0iö V respectively. 0.04% for every 1% cobalt is increased.
Such high-alloy steels, however, are difficult to forge, very brittle and therefore not efficient. Steels with a high vanadium and cobalt content with a high C content have therefore not been introduced in practice.
It has now been recognized that, in contrast to the previous view presented above, the carbon content, especially in steels with a high V content, does not need to be increased with increasing Co content in order to maintain the hardenability and tempering resistance of the base mass, but rather On the contrary, cobalt is able to replace carbon in its favorable effect on hardenability and tempering resistance of the high-speed steel base mass,
as in such steels cobalt in the low-carbon matrix causes a similar increase in hardness during tempering, as is the case with a high-carbon matrix through hardening. 1% cobalt corresponds to approximately 0.02% carbon.
This measure also improves the forgeability and toughness of the high-vanadium cobalt high-speed turning steels with increased cutting performance so that such steels can now also be used successfully in operational terms.
The C content (in%) belonging to a specific high-speed steel alloy with 3 to 20% Co and 2 to 5% V
after preheating results from a linear increase with increasing V content within the known limits of 0.75% at 0% V and 1.20% at 5% V and from a newly recognized reduction of 0,
02% per 10% Co, according to the invention it is:
EMI0002.0053
a deviation of 0.05% C from the value determined in this way is still permissible.
If one determines the associated carbon content in the known high-speed steels mentioned at the outset with 0.75 to 1.20% C, 15-19% W, up to 5 0 / a Cr, up to 3% Co and up to 5% V, then z.
B. the steel with 18% W, 4% Cr and 2.5% V has a content of 0.975% C.
According to the invention, the same steel to which 18% Co is alloyed to increase its performance has a C content of 0.615%. With steels that have very good forgeability and good toughness,
The highest levels of performance have been achieved to date. Furthermore, for example, a steel with 17% W, 4.5% Cr, 3.8% V and 5% Co according to the invention has 0,
992% C compared to 1.40% for steels on which the Austrian patent 131842 is based.
