Le dessin ci-joint montre, à titre d'exem ples, deux formes d'exécution de l'invention. La fig. 1 représente, en coupe axiale, la partie inférieure du cylindre que compren nent les deux formes d'exécution, un piston assorti étant représenté en traits mixtes à son point mort inférieur; La fig. 2 est une vue en élévation du pis ton de la première forme .d'exécution; La fig. 8 est une coupe axiale, partielle de ce piston; La fig. 4 est une coupe transversale, par tielle du même piston, suivant la ligne A-A de la fig. 8;
Cylinder and piston assembly of a machine, in particular an internal combustion engine. The subject of the invention is an assembly, cylinder and piston for a machine, in particular an internal combustion engine.
It is characterized in that the cylinder and the piston comprise, in order to ensure a rational lubrication of their friction surfaces, inclined grooves, one formed in the internal surface of the base of the cylinder, the other in the external surface of the piston, for example in piston rings, circumferential grooves formed in the outer surface of the piston and communicating with the inclined grooves thereof, and orifices drilled in the piston and opening behind at least one piston ring, in such a way that the lubricating oil can circulate by inertia along the piston in a direction opposite to that of the piston movement,
at the same time penetrate between the segment (s) and the piston body and return to the crankcase.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the invention. Fig. 1 shows, in axial section, the lower part of the cylinder comprised by the two embodiments, a matching piston being shown in phantom at its lower dead center; Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the pis ton of the first embodiment; Fig. 8 is an axial section, partial of this piston; Fig. 4 is a cross section, in part, of the same piston, taken along line A-A of FIG. 8;
Fig. 5 shows, in axial section, the udder of the second form -d'execution; Fig. 6 is an elevational view corresponding to. fig. 5; Fig. 7 is a plan projection of FIG. 6, with part of the upper face of the piston cut off; Fig. 8 shows, in elevation, an element of the piston shown in FIGS. 5, 6 and 7.
The first embodiment of the assembly object of the invention comprises a cylinder 1, shown in. fig. 1, the lower part of which has on its internal surface - inclined grooves 2 opening into a longitudinal groove 3, while grooves 4, inclined in the opposite direction, communicate with the aforementioned grooves. In addition, grooves 5, forming a small angle with the vertical, end like groove 3 at the base of the cylinder to facilitate the return of the oil to the crankcase. The inclination of all these grooves is established in such a way that there can be no catching of the piston rings.
Said assembly further comprises a piston, shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, this piston comprising a piston body 6 and a certain number of circumferential segments 7 crimped in annular housings of the piston body. Between the segments 7, the piston body has inclined grooves 8 which facilitate the circulation of oil by inertia along the piston in a direction opposite to the displacement of the piston. The segments are collared at their base, so that they each have a shoulder constituting, together with the wall of their housing, a circumferential groove 11.
In addition, the segments 7 are pierced with upper 9 and lower 10 radial orifices to allow the oil to pass between the segments and the body of the piston, that is to say in the bottom of the annular housings intended to segments. These orifices could also be made in the body of the piston.
The lubricating oil is compressed in the eirco # n- ferential grooves 11, forced to penetrate through the: ori fices. 10 in, the bottom of the annular housings -of the piston intended for the rings and re then tread through the orifices 9 on the rubbing surfaces:
. It is also distributed to the rubbing surfaces and returned to the grooves 11 by the inclined grooves 8 communicating with the latter, and cooperating with the grooves. provided on the inner surface of the cylinder.
The segments 7 could also be low-cut at their upper edge and thereby each form a circumferential groove. Between each segment 7 and the bottom of the annular housing of the piston intended for this segment, is has a second segment 13, playing the role of compensating segment and attenuating shocks (fig. 3 and 4 ).
The part of the piston 6 located below the segments 7 and forming a guide only bears against the cylinder over a small portion of its periphery, so as to. reduce unnecessary friction. To further reduce this friction, we have. provided on this portion of the slightly recessed parts 14, so that the piston is in contact with the cylinder dre, in this region, only by the raised parts 15. At the lower part of the piston is provided a similar segment 16 to segments. 7 and provided with an internal compensating segment 17. The central part of the piston carries a cylindrical bore 18, in which the pin fitted with a pin engages. spring which enters one of the orifices 22 of bore 18.
In addition, on the peripheral surface of the middle guide part, the piston body has crossed grooves 23, 2-1 which also facilitate the circulation of oil along the piston on the part serving as a guide.
Instead of low-cut segments, we could provide at the edges of their housings in the piston body, annular grooves playing the same role as the grooves formed by low-cut parts .des segments.
The second embodiment of the assembly, object of the invention, comprises a cylinder dre such as that shown in FIG. 1 and a piston which is shown in FIGS. 5 to 8. This piston comprises a sleeve 29 forming a segment. This sleeve envelops the cylindrical surface of the piston body 28, which is embedded in the sleeve.
It has circumferential grooves 30 to ensure the circulation of the lubricating oil along the cylinder; it is split -in the direction of its length along a line the vertical elements are designated by: 3,1 and 32.
In the lower or middle region, this sleeve has on its raised parts inclined grooves 33 communicating with the circumferential grooves, while it is pierced with holes 44 near the lower edge of the grooves 30 to allow. the lubricating oil to pass behind the sleeve 29, between the latter and the piston body 28. In the gap separating the sleeve 29 and the piston body from one another, it is provided a cylindrical compensating segment 34 pierced with holes 35 and forming a spring, as shown in particular in FIG. 8.
Towards its ends, the liner 29 has internal flanges 36, 37 respectively, having radial notches 38 (FIG. 7), so that the liner retains sufficient elasticity.
The grooves 30 -of the shirt could be at. double groove, as shown, for example, at 39 (Fig. 6), these grooves now. lubricating oil in the. groove 3f1 forming a compression chamber.
The lower face of the piston has holes 40 intended to ensure the evacuation of the excess oil contained inside the socket and to allow its return to the housing.
The mode of action of this piston is easily understood. The raised parts of the sleeve ensure the formation of oil compression chambers along the grooves and the oil penetrates, through the orifices 44, behind the sleeve forming a segment while ensuring, at the same time, the lubrication of the piston pin; this pressurized inner oil maintains the compensating segment 34 against the inner face of the. sleeve 29, as well as che set 29 against the inner surface of the cylinder. It will be noted that the way in which the liner is split provides it with sufficient sealing, even if it has undergone some wear.
Of course, instead of the udder body being embedded in the liner, the latter could be embedded in the udder body, the diameter of which would correspond to that of the cylinder at its ends. It will also be noted that the body of the piston could be provided with two or more liners instead of only one and acting like segments.
