Abstract

<B>ESPUMA ABSORVENTE E PROCESSO PARA PREPARAR A MESMA<D> é descrita uma espuma absorvente que apresenta propriedades desejáveis de maciez e flexibilidade e ainda assim é altamente aborvente. Em uma modalidade, a espuma absorvente compreende um polímero insolúvel em água, intumescível em água onde a espuma absorvente apresenta um valor de Intumescimento Livre de pelo menos aproximadamente 10 gramas de líquido por grama de espuma absorvente e um valor de Maciez inferior a aproximadamente 0,294 Newtons por grama por metro quadrado de espuma absorvente. Em uma segunda modalidade, a espuma absorvente tem um tamanho médio de célula das células na espuma absorvente entre aproximadamente 10 mícrons e aproximadamente 100 mícrons e uma espessura média de parede das células na espuma absorvente entre aproximadamente 0,1 mícron e aproximadamente 30 mícrons. Tal espuma absorvente pode ser utilizada em um produto absorvente descartável destinado à absorção de fluidos tais como fluidos corpóreos. Também é descrito um processo para preparar uma espuma absorvente. O processo compreende geralmente formar uma solução de um polímero em um solvente, congelar a solução em uma taxa de resfriamento relativamente lenta a uma temperatura abaixo do ponto de congelamento do solvente, retirar o solvente da solução congelada, e recuperar o polímero para formar uma espuma polimérica intumescível em água, insolúvel em água.
