<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Sealing device for caps.
The present invention relates to a sealing device for stoppers, consisting in particular of a washer arranged for its production in a plastic material which does not have the elastic qualities of rubber, while retaining sufficient elasticity for the washer to hold itself together. conform perfectly above the bottle and ensure that the cap is completely sealed against liquids and gases.
Until now, the only washers exhibiting a total seal were those made of rubber, however rubber is a material which deteriorates rapidly, first by itself and then under the action of various agents. foreigners.
Many currently known materials have resistance qualities far superior to those of rubber, especially plastics,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
but until now we had not succeeded in making washers in these materials, guaranteeing a tightness.
The object of the present invention is to obviate these drawbacks by allowing the production of washers in a plastic material, while guaranteeing them to ensure the sealing which previously was characteristic of rubber washers.
The sealing device for stoppers according to the invention is mainly characterized in that it consists of a washer intended to be adapted to a cap, the washer comprising two concentric thicknesses connected by a thinned part, to present two recesses, one on each face of the washer, located one vis-à-vis the other, one of the recesses being intended to match the rounding at the top of the neck of the bottle, the other recess, on the other face, to ensure in this region of the washer, between the two concentric thicknesses, at least an additional elasticity to allow, on the one hand, a better conformation of the washer to the neck and, on the other hand on the other hand, a tighter wedging of the said washer between the neck and the stopper,
means being provided to ensure retention of the washer in said plug.
The invention will be better understood by referring to the description together with the appended drawing which shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention and in which: FIG. 1 is a sectional view. in elevation in a washer - Figure 2 shows the same washer in plan - Figure 3 shows in section and in elevation the washer in place, wedged between a stopper and the neck of a bottle onto which said stopper is screwed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3, a washer 1 consists essentially of two concentric annular thicknesses 2, respectively 2 ', connected by a thinned part 3, so as to provide between the annular thicknesses 2.2' two recesses 4,4 'located vis-à-vis one another. The annular thickness 2 is extended externally by a thin ring 5, while a thin ring 5 'is provided on the internal face of the annular thickness 2'.
Depending on the application shown in FIG. 3, the washer 1 is placed at the bottom of a stopper 6 which is screwed on the outside onto the neck 7 of a bottle. The stopper 6 has a bottom 8, a circular side wall 9 and, in the center of the bottom, a central guide 10.
The washer 1 is placed by force at the bottom of the plug 6 and remains wedged there by deformation of the thin rings 5.5 'respectively against the circular side wall 9 and against the central guide 10.
When the cap is screwed onto the bottle, a rounded part 11 at the top of the neck 7 is housed in the recess 4 'of the washer 1. This recess 4' fits, by crushing the washer and thanks to the additional elasticity due to the recess 4. exactly the shape of the rounding 11, while the annular thicknesses 2,2 'are applied against the bottom of the stopper. The tightness of the device is thus ensured, on the one hand, between the neck and the washer, by adapting the recess 4 'of the washer to the rounded shape 11 at the top of the neck and, on the other hand, between the washer 1 and the shell 9 of the stopper, by crushing the two concentric annular thicknesses 2,2 'against said base 8.
In order to further facilitate the shaping of the recess 4 'to the neck, the bottom 8 of the stopper has, in the annular part in contact with the washer, a convex zone 12.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
.
When the stopper is removed from the bottle, the washer remains in place in said stopper due to the jamming it experiences between the wall 9 and the central guide: 10 by the thin rings 5.5 '.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the washer will advantageously be made of a flexible plastic material, such as polyethylene.
The invention has been described only by way of non-limiting example and it goes without saying that numerous modifications can be made to its realization, for example by adapting the washer to a cap which is screwed internally to the neck of a bottle, In get out of his mind.
