<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Capping for container.
The present invention relates to caps for containers and it is an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved safety cap for threaded necks of bottles or the like, which can be relatively easily handled by adults but which cannot be handled by adults. Children can only open with difficulty, so that it can be used for containers with medicines or corrosive or toxic substances that should be kept safe.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention provides a stopper for a threaded neck of a receptacle which comprises an internal cap threaded to be screwed onto the neck an external cap covering the internal cap on which it spins loose, the inner cap having a notch with which can come to coincide. a slot in the outer capsule, and a key provided to be introduced into the slot and engaged in the notch so as to key the two capsules when it is desired to rotate them together.
Another subject of the invention is containers equipped with such a stopper.
In order to make the invention fully understood, it will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of one embodiment of the closure according to the invention, the internal cap being placed on the neck of the container; Fig. 2 is a view similar to that of Fig.l showing the closure assembled, with the key in place to key the two capsules; Fig. 3 is an elevational view and, for the most part, in section, of the closure shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the key. not in the keying position; neck of the container fitted with the stopper is shown in elevation; and Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of FIG. 3 with the key in the keying position.
The closure of the invention is intended for a bottle or any other container having at its upper part a threaded cylindrical neck. It essentially comprises an internal cap, the flat upper face of which is in one piece with a threaded cylindrical skirt so as to be able to be screwed onto the neck of the container; the upper part, preferably smooth, of the internal capsule comprises at the intersection of the flat surface and the skirt, a notch descending perpendicularly to the flat upper surface. The notch does not pass through the internal capsule, which can therefore
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
be used to seal the container.
The closure further comprises an outer capsule with a flat upper surface, the skirt of which concentrically surrounds that of the internal capsule, without clamping, so as to be able to turn idle on the latter. The outer capsule @ has, at the intersection of its flat upper part and its: skirt, a slot which extends perpendicularly to its flat upper surface and radially therein. Finally, a key of relatively small cross section can be introduced into the slot of the outer cap and into the notch of the inner cap, so as to key these two elements so that they can no longer rotate one by one. compared to each other.
The key is preferably attached to the outer capsule by a flexible and elastic tie, so that it can be easily manipulated to wedge it with the slit and notch, although it will hold the plug.
In the specific embodiment shown in the figures, where the same references designate the same elements, the stopper is placed on a bottle or a jar 10, the cylindrical neck of which has a continuous helical screw thread 12 allowing tight closure. from the orifice of the neck by screwing in an ordinary cap. The body of the container 10 is of the standard type and is therefore only partially blank, the safety closure according to the invention not involving a special or expensive container design. With the exception of the key and the slot which will be described later, the stopper has the appearance of an ordinary stopper 'provided with an internal thread 14 corresponding to the thread 12 of the container.
The closure however comprises two parts, an internal capsule 16 and an external capsule 26. The internal capsule 16 is cylindrical; it has a flat upper surface 18 and, at its periphery, a cylindrical skirt 20, integral with the upper part 18 ,.
The thread 14 is provided inside the skirt 20, which is screwed onto the threaded neck of the container. The capsule 16 has one or more notches 22 - there are four in the drawing - inside
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ter section of the flat upper part 18 and of the skirt 20, these notches being perpendicular to the flat upper part and radial with respect to the skirt. They only pass through part of the thickness of the capsule 16, which therefore closes the container tightly. To complete the seal, it is possible to use a conventional sealing washer 34, for example made of paper.
The outer capsule 26 is also cylindrical and has a flat upper surface 28 and, at its periphery, a cylindrical skirt 30, integral with the part 28-and fitting concentrically and without tightening on the skirt 20 of the internal capsule, on which she can turn mad. As seen in the sectional views, a small lip 32 provided at the lower edge of. the skirt 30 of the external capsule prevents any axial displacement between the internal and external capsules. The capsules are preferably of rigid plastic material; they can be forcibly fitted into each other and remain assembled as a whole, unless sufficient effort is exerted to separate them.
The outer capsule has, right through, a slot 34 making it possible to reach the notches of the internal capsule. The slot 34 is perpendicular to the upper surface 28 of the capsule and extends radially with respect to the skirt 30. As shown in the drawing, the slot and the notches preferably have the same width.
Finally, a key 36 is fixed, by a flexible link 38, to the closure and, preferably, as shown, to the outer capsule thereof. In the preferred embodiment shown in the drawing, the elastic link 38 normally maintains the key, away from its keying position shown in Figs. 2 and 4.
The key normally tends to occupy the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, so small children will not normally be able to open the container. With the key occupying this position, the capsule 26 can turn loose on the internal capsule 16 and any attempt made to unscrew the stopper.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
will simply rotate the outer capsule over the inner capsule.
If you want to open the stopper, push the key 36 into the slot 34 and turn the outer cap 26 until the key engages in a notch 22. Continuing to turn, the cap will be unscrewed. internal and we will open the closure.
To screw the stopper back onto the container, the two capsules are first keyed together by means of the key, so that the stopper can turn integrally and be screwed into place. The key is then removed, so that the plug is found in the safety position shown in FIG. 3.
