<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The subject of the invention is a gear in which a pinion actuates sliding plates by racks to which the rods of the gear are attached.
According to the invention, the racks are formed by bent and perforated parts of the sliding plates guided by the walls of the housing. This guidance is advantageously assumed by the edge of a non-bent part of the sliding plate and, preferably, at a different level, by an edge of the rack bent towards the wall of the housing, on the side opposite to that adjoining. the, plate, so that the rack is kept away from the wall of the housing to allow the-. deep grinding of the teeth of the pinion in the openings of the rack.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The pinion has circular teeth 'providing an even, smooth drive of the racks.
The movement of the rods is limited by the sliding plates which abut against the end walls of the case when the lock is closed and against each other when the lock is open. The sliding plates are advantageously provided with notches in which fit the rods which are minced at the ends and articulated on journals close to the pinion, so that the minced part of the rods is still inside the case when the lock is closed. .
The appended drawing represents by way of example two embodiments of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view from below of a gear housing, the mechanism being shown in the intermediate position between the open position and the closed position of the gear, and Figures 2 and 3 show two different sliding plates.
In the housing 1, advantageously made of stamped sheet metal, the pinion 2 is mounted on the axis 3 carrying the handle 4, and actuates the sliding plates 6 by the racks 5, parts of which are bent and perforated to form these racks 5.
These are guided on the walls' 7, in the case of Figs. 1 and 2, by the edge 8 of the plates 6 and by the edge 9 of the racks bent towards the wall 6 and pressing against the latter. In this case, the racks 5 are guided by the walls of the housing at two different levels, on either side of the openings 10 in which the teeth 11 of the pinion engage. These teeth are of circular shape so as to ensure sliding. regular and smooth plates 6. The meshing can be deep thanks to the racks being spaced from the walls of the housing at two levels 8 and 9.
In the variant of FIG. 3, guidance is also provided on either side of the teeth of the racks, but this time at only one level, by two parts '8 and 8' of the edge of the

plates 6.
The plates 6 are provided with a notch 12 in which fits the end of the rod 13, the part 14 of which, minced and perforated, rests on the plate 6 and is engaged on the journal 15, close to the pinion 2 of the distance corresponding to the depth of the notch 12. This arrangement makes it possible to make the end 16 of the plates 6 abut against the wall 17 of the casing to limit the movement of the rods in the closed position of the lock, without the minced part of the rod does not come out of the housing. In the open position of the lock, the point 18 of a sliding plate abuts in the bottom of the cutout 19 of the other plate to stop the movement of the rods.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments which have been described and shown by way of example, and one would not depart from its scope by making modifications thereto.
