<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Method and device for cold stamping bolts, screws, rivets and the like.
The present invention relates to a process for the cold stamping of bolts, screws, rivets and the like and to a device for carrying out this process, and it also relates to the finished product thus obtained.
In general, for the manufacture by cold stamping of said articles, having an ankle and a head of such a shape that they can be produced starting from wires or bars, use is made of a metal wire having the diameter of the smooth anchor or having the average diameter of the thread, depending on whether the anchor, in particular of a bolt, is threaded over part of its length or over its entire length.
The head, which should generally have a square or hexagonal shape, is stamped first in a cylindrical shape and then cut into the desired final shape.
Stamping is done in one or two strokes depending on
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that the length of wire necessary for forming the head is respectively less than or greater than 1.75 to 2.5 times the diameter of this wire; number constitutes the repression ratio. when it is operated by double striking, a single die is preferably used, but two die heads, one a roughing machine and the other a finisher.
The matrix bears an imprint at its entrance representing the lower part of summer; it presents in particular the flat base and the small fillet by which this base is connected to the rod. As for the blank, it has a cylindrical part in order to reduce the buckling length. This part is followed by a truncated cane and an inflation whose base is flat and already provided with the small fillet of connection.
Practice shows that during the second strike, fragile areas of great hardness form and that it is important that the structure does not include linings, that the increase in hardness is limited to suitable values and that its variations are distributed instead of abrupt.
It is especially important that the area of greatest hardness is removed as far as possible from the birth of the rod.
Attempts have been made to remedy these defects by starting from wires of a diameter larger than that of the rod called the ankle.
The diameter is then reduced over the length of this rod, by a shrinking or extrusion operation, and the striking is carried out in one stroke. This improves the structure in general but loses the advantage of preforming by roughing. In extrusion, the ratio of the initial section to the final section is called the extrusion ratio.
An attempt has also been made to avoid the fragility of the party-ankle connection by advancing the blank in the die, in a suitable amount before the second strike. This allows the area of great hardness to be moved further away from the connection.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
denies fillet-peg but does not eliminate the disadvantages resulting from the fact that the blank already has the small filleting fillet, that the micro- and macro-graphic structures are already adversely affected and will remain so in the final product.
We have also sought, starting with a bar whose section corresponds approximately or exactly to the shape of the summer to form the anchor by a high ratio extrusion operation, but this process cannot really give any result. practical only in certain special cases.
The present invention relates to a two-stroke per-stroke method using two dies and two die-cutters as a device, with transport of the blank from the first to the second die. This makes it possible to start from wires or bars of the most suitable shape diameter and to form a blank of shape and dimensions suitable for facilitating the obtaining by the second strike of a more complicated, more resistant and better finished finished head. . This blank no longer includes the small fillet head-ankle connection conforming to standardizations.
The blank will in principle include the known cylindrical guide part followed by a bulge having the shape of a "barrel" and connected to the rod by a truncated cone of suitable angle; this arrangement can be replaced by an equivalent, in particular by a hemisphere and a suitable fillet, by the constriction cone and the like.
This rough shape leaves the metal with a favorable structure and it allows better displacement of the metal towards the corners and other details of the periphery of the head impression in the finishing die.
These phenomena will be further promoted by limiting the introduction of the blank into the finishing die so that a suitable part of the rod is used to obtain the necessary volume of the head and to remove
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
more the zone of great hardness of the zone of connection rod-party.
By these means, good structure, improved physical qualities of the finished product, and very finished finished shapes are obtained.
In known presses with two or more dies, these are juxtaposed. According to the present invention, the matrices are on the contrary superimposed; this with a view to simplifying the transport mechanisms, reducing the downtime of the operating cycle and thus increasing the hourly production of the machine.
The invention encompasses, as new industrial products, bolts, screws, rivets and the like, manufactured according to the method and the device which will be described in detail below and having particular properties inherent in the method.
In the accompanying drawing are shown by way of example two embodiments of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a section of the roughing die and die.
Fig. 2 shows the blank in the finishing die, ready to receive the impact of the finishing die, these two elements shown in section.
Fig. 3 shows in elevation a blank.
Fig. 4 is an alternative embodiment of a blank.
Fig. 5 schematically gives the displacement of the cutter and the trajectory of the conveyor clamp.
Fig. 6 shows in elevation the mechanism for transporting the blank, while FIG. 7 is a side view.
According to the embodiment shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the blank 7 has a tapered base 1 of 1/2
EMI4.1
angle 0 {followed by an eastern cone rus ion 2 of a 1/2 angle P; fig. 3 shows the trace of a line of iso-hardness 3 (we know that the hardness gives indications on the resilience
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
and on resistance). This line of iso-hardness 3 no longer exhibits abrupt deviations and its distance a from the region which will bear the fillet of the rod-head connection is greater than for a line of the same hardness in a blank of known shape.
Fig. 4 gives by way of example a form of blank 7 'in which the cone of constriction 1' and the cone of the base 2 'are separated by a small cylinder 4 whose diameter b is equal to or slightly greater than the diameter start of the wire.
Fig. 1 shows a blanking die 5 with the blanking die 6 for forming a blank 7, while FIG. 2 shows in section a finishing die 11 in which is engaged a blank 7 stopped by the elector 9 of such so that the line of greatest hardness 3 'shown in FIG. 3 remains at a suitable distance from the rod and that moreover the metal of the region a of FIG. 3 is easily repressed towards the angle 10 (see fig. 2) of the bottom of the recess of the summer of the finishing die 11 under the impact of the finishing die 12.
In fig. 5, the path c of a known cutter not shown in the drawing is shown, from the axis a1 of the cutting die to the axis A2 of the blank die 5 and the path t followed by l 'axis of a conveyor clamp 13 (fig. 6-7) from A2 to axis A3 of the final die 11. Point A4 corresponds to the standby position of the clamp 13 during the advance of the trimmer 6 and finisher plugs 12 shown schematically by circles.
The fact that the clamp 13 describes a circular path allows the movement to be controlled by a single cam or lever 14; this simplifies the mechanism and allows a higher displacement speed than in the case of trajectories following rectangular contours, for example used in known mechanisms.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Figure 5 also shows that the movement of the gripper 13 from -2 to A4 which is to take place during the movement from A to A2 of the cutter can be delayed until a time when the movement A1, A2 is almost finished. This fact makes it possible to improve the cycle with respect to that of known machines where the grippers first take a transverse movement with respect to that of the cutter.
The mechanism specific to effecting the movement of the clamp 13 is shown in Figs 6 and 7.
According to Figs 6 and 7, the clamp 13 is of a conventional type and is fixed on a clamp holder 15 provided with two pins 16 - 16 'fixed in two cranks 17 - 17 oscillating on pins 18 -18'; these axes 18 - 18 'oscillate in a housing 19 with cover 20. The axes 18 - 18' each carry a cylindrical pinion 21, respectively 21 ', controlled by a toothed wheel 22 fixed on a shaft 23 which receives an oscillating movement by the 'Intermediate a lever 14, controlled by a connecting rod in a known manner.
The ratio of the gears 21 -21 'and 22 is chosen between 2 and 3, so that to make the clamp 13 perform a movement of 180. lever 14 should only make a movement of 90 to 60.
A connecting rod (not shown) attacking the lever 14 will preferably be of an adjustable length so as to be able to adjust the movement of the clamp 13 so that one end of the path is on the axis A2, while the lever Since the control is also of adjustable length, it will be possible to adjust the amplitude of the movement of the clamp 13 so that the second end of the path is on the axis A3.
The invention has been described and illustrated for information only and in no way limiting, and it goes without saying that many modifications can be made to its details without departing from its spirit.
