PERFECTIONNEMENTS AUX CYLINDRES BROYEURS.
DESCRIPTION.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

IMPROVEMENTS TO CRUSHING CYLINDERS.
DESCRIPTION.
It is known crushed rolls consisting essentially of a cylinder of varying length, rotating horizontally in bearings or on rings and rollers; these cylinders are internally coated with a shield and contain spherical, clindrical or other grinding bodies; the material to be ground being introduced at one end and the cylinder rotating along its horizontal axis, the friction produced by the movement of the grinding bodies causes the grinding of the material to be treated, which is then discharged at the end of the cylinder opposite the inlet .
There are known grinding rolls in which the main body is divided longitudinally into several cylindrical co-compartments by the placement of perforated partitions at selected distances, so as to be able to carry out a classification of the grinding bodies in different dimensions varying with the progress of the mill. grinding, the heaviest grinding bodies being in the compartment immediately at the entrance of the material to be ground and the lightest grinding bodies being in the compartment next to the outlet of the finished material ,. In each of these cylindrical compartments, the movement of the @ bodies

grinders is the same as in the case of the single cylindrical chamber.
The object of the present invention is to give the various grinding compartments a special shape as shown in FIG. I of the drawing in the present description: each grinding compartment consists of three parts: a flattened cone "1", a cylindrical part "2" and an elongated cone "3".
The product to be treated enters the first compartment at the central part of the flat cane "1" and quickly falls into the cylindrical part "2". It progressively advances through the flat cone "3" towards the outlet of the compartment, output consisting of a perforated disc "4", allowing the treated product to pass into the neighboring compartment where it will be subjected to the treatment of grinding bodies of smaller dimensions and so on until the outlet of the mill.
During the operation of the ordinary cylindrical mill, the movement of the grinding bodies takes place as shown in figure II.
The direction of rotation being that indicated by the arrow "1", the rotation of the cylinder "2" causes the mass of the bryants bodies "3" which is raised up to a certain scorer, the same @r the entire length of the cylinder, then the grinding bodies fall in cascade under the action of gravity, following the arrow "4"; the friction of the grinding bodies against each other, combined with the shocks produced by their fall along the inclined plane "5" produces the grinding of the material being processed.
With the arrangement of the compattimats making the obtaining of the present invention (Figure III), during (the rotation of the apparatus, the grinding bodies "1" driven by the rotation of the cylinder "2" are raised to heights varying according to the diameters at different points along the length of the compartment, the heaviest being placed in the cylindrical part "3" are raised to a greater height while the lightest are classified in decreasing dimensions in the elongated conical part "4", the lighter

located in the part of the compartment with the smallest diameter,
It is immediately obvious that for each grinding compartment,
the action of the grinding bodies is higher in the cylindrical part "3" where the heaviest ones act, raised to a greater height, and than the action of the grinding bodies less and less heavy, raised less and less high, is less and less energetic as one approaches the part which is smaller in diameter of the cone, part corresponding to the exit of the compartment.
The material advancing from left to right in the compartment considered (figure III) the larger particles are subjected in the cylindrical part "3" to the action of the heaviest grinding bodies, falling from a greater height; on the other hand, the weight of the grinding bodies as well as their drop height decreasing as the material advances in the compartment, therefore, as the grinding progresses, the parts of finer and finer of the treated material, are subjected to a more rational treatment than in the case of the cylindrical compartment.
This more rational arrangement and treatment results in a substantial saving in the driving force required for grinding, compared to treatment in single or multiple compartment grinders of cylindrical shape.
The shape shown in Figures I and III is not absolute and can be modified for example by removing the flattened cone ch on the inlet side and in this case the compartment would have the shape shown in Figure IV. The compartments can also have a shape such as that shown in FIG. V or even any other shape than that of the longer or shorter cylinder, without departing from the present invention.
