'A l'heure actuelle, l'agencement communément adopté consiste à prévoir un dispositif de serrage généralement monté sur le cylin- dre supérieur et qui permet de rapprocher plus ou moins ce cylin- dre du cylindre inférieur. Ce dispositif est généralement actionné par un moteur spécial, dit moteur de serrage, et le choix de la puissance de ce moteur et du rapport de réduction du disposi- tif de serrage est généralement dicté par un compromis entre deux considérations en contradiction l'une avec l'autre. En effet, si l'on choisit un grand rapport de réduction, on obtient une possibilité de réglage très précis, mais, en même temps, on
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Il est bien évident que les modes de réalisation qui viennent d'être décrits n'ont été donrés qu'à titre d'exemple et qu'on pourrait s'en écarter sans pour cela sortir du cadre de l'invention. Quel que soit le mode de réalisation adopté, l'agencement suivant l'invention présente en pratique de grands avantages parmi lesquels on peut citer les suivants qui viennent s'ajouter à ceux qui ont déjà été mentionnés ci-dessus. a) facilité et simplicité d'emploi du mécanisme de ser- rage automatique qui est,. en général, prévu à la partie supé- rieure des colonnes de laminoirs; b) possibilité de correction du serrage pendant l'exé- cution de la passe sans avoir à toucher audit mécanisme automa- tique de serrage; c) rapidité et facilité de réglage dans le cas d'un rem- placement des cylindres de laminage par des cylindres d'un dia- mètre différent ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

under the benefit of the International Convention of March 20, 1883. formed by the company known as: A R M C 0, Société Anonyme 6, Avenue Gourgaud - PARIS - for "IMPROVEMENT IN CYLINDER TIGHTENING MECHANISMS
DE LAMINOIRS "forming the subject of a patent application filed in FRANCE under N prov 492,338 dated June 22, 1944.
The present invention, due to Mr. Théodore BOSTROEM, relates to devices for clamping the rolls of rolling mills intended to allow the position of said rolls to be adjusted.
At the present time, the commonly adopted arrangement consists in providing a clamping device generally mounted on the upper cylinder and which enables this cylinder to be brought closer or less to the lower cylinder. This device is generally actuated by a special motor, called the clamping motor, and the choice of the power of this motor and of the reduction ratio of the clamping device is generally dictated by a compromise between two considerations, one in contradiction with one another. the other. In fact, if we choose a large reduction ratio, we obtain a possibility of very precise adjustment, but, at the same time, we
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
greatly increases the time required for clamping and loosening, which slows down machine operation.
If, on the other hand, a small reduction ratio is chosen, a rapid loosening and tightening is indeed obtained, but this is to the detriment of the precision, and consequently of the quality of the work obtained.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks, that is to say to combine in a single device the advantages inherent in the two designs indicated above, while eliminating their drawbacks. Essentially, it consists of providing a rolling mill with two separate clamping mechanisms, one with rapid operation - and consequently with a low reduction ratio - and the other with slow but precise clamping, obtained by a large reduction. Preferably, the quick clamping mechanism will be mounted at the top of the rolling mill columns, that is to say will act on the upper roll, while the precise but slow clamping mechanism will be mounted so as to order the lower cylinder.
It will be noted that apart from the main advantage which has been specified above, the present invention also overcomes the following disadvantage which one encountered in rolling mills: when it comes to changing the rolls of the rolling mill, that is to say to replace a pair of rolls by another pair whose diameter differs considerably from that of the first, it is necessary, in order to keep the line of the pass at the same height with respect to the frame, to provide a setting by shims or any other equivalent device whose operation required a relatively considerable time. Thanks to the device according to the invention, this adjustment is carried out by means of the second clamping mechanism, that is to say under conditions where the time portion is minimum.
The description which will follow, with reference to the accompanying drawings, given by way of example, will make it clear how the present invention can be achieved.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In these drawings: FIG. 1 is a vertical sectional view of a first embodiment of the invention; fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of another embodiment.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the journals
3 and 4 of the rolling rolls 1 and 2 are mounted in bearings 5 and 5a. The position of these bearings in the vertical direction is determined by two separate clamping devices. At the top, the mechanism comprises a screw 6 engaged in a nut 7 integral with the frame of the rolling mill and driven by a worm wheel 8 engaged with a worm 9 actuated in any suitable manner. In a similar manner, at the lower part, we find the adjusting screw 10, the fixed nut 11, the worm wheel 12 and the worm 13. The pitch of the screw 10 is chosen more lower than that of screw 6.
It will immediately be understood that with this arrangement, the device 6-7-8-9 makes it possible to quickly bring the cylinder into the desired position, while the device
10-11-12-13 makes it possible to complete the adjustment in order to obtain as much precision as one can desire. of
In the embodiment of fig. 2, cylinders 1 and 2 are supported by support bearings with reinforced outer ring, respectively 14 and 15 for the cylinder
1, and 16 and 17 for cylinder 2. The position of the support bearings 14,15,16,17 is adjusted by rotating the eccentric shafts 18,19,20 and 21 which carry the said bearings. The journals of these shafts are housed in seats supported in corresponding housings of the frame by their soles 18a, 19a, 20a and 21a.
According to the invention, the control of the rotation of the eccentric shafts is achieved with a greater demultiplication for the shafts 20 and 21 than for the shafts 18 and 19, in order thus to obtain, by means of the shafts mentioned
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
first, a slower but more precise adjustment. It should be noted that, in the particular embodiment represented by FIG. 2, the possibility of adjustment by means of the eccentrics 20 and 21 allows, for the eccentrics 18 and 19, to always work in the same zone of angular variation, and consequently to take the readings of the eccentricity variations on the same part of the eccentric.
This presents certain advantages, since it is understood that with the system of adjustment by means of an eccentric, the angular displacement necessary to obtain a given clamping of the rolling roll varies as a function of the position of the eccentric according to a nonlinear law. The presence of the adjustment eccentrics 20 and 21 always enables the angular variation of the eccentrics 18 and 19 to be brought back to the same zone.
It is obvious that the embodiments which have just been described have been given only by way of example and that one could depart from them without thereby departing from the scope of the invention. Whatever the embodiment adopted, the arrangement according to the invention has in practice great advantages, among which the following may be mentioned which are in addition to those which have already been mentioned above. a) ease and simplicity of use of the automatic tightening mechanism which is ,. in general, provided at the top of the rolling mill columns; b) possibility of correcting the tightening during the execution of the pass without having to touch said automatic tightening mechanism; c) rapidity and ease of adjustment in the case of replacement of the rolling rolls by rolls of a different diameter;
d) possibility, by reading devices for measuring the thicknesses and the total pressure on the rolls, to correct the tightening during the execution of the pass, in order to obtain a product of thickness quite
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
uniform without affecting the said automatic tightening mechanisms; e) great ease of rapid opening by simultaneous release of the two mechanisms.
