<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

La fig. 17 le représente en perspective, vu de dedans;
La fig. 18 montre l'orifice du récipient;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Pepper, salt, sugar, coffee and the like mill.
The present invention relates to a mill for pepper, salt, sugar, coffee and the like.
Pepper mills are known :, salt, sugar, coffee and the like, in which the crushing or grinding organs are formed on the one hand by a helical element with one or more blades, on the other hand by a sieve in the center of which turns the axis of the helical element, the lower edge (s) of which are in constant contact with this screen. In these, mills, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
screen closes one of the openings of the receptacle containing the product to be crushed or ground, in 3 -, the axis of which extends the axis of the helical element, the end of which opposite the screen is centered by the removable cover a second orifice of the container.
This construction offers many drawbacks: on the one hand, the axis of the helical crushing element, which axially passes through the entire container, is in constant contact with the product to be crushed; is quickly attacked by this product, salt for example, which is contrary to hygiene and detrimental to the strength of this axis; on the other hand, after removal of the stopper, with a view to filling the container, this filling is hampered by the end of the axis of the helical element, which is located in the middle of this orifice.
Finally, the helical crushing element is rotatably mounted in contact with the screen which is itself crimped onto the container. As a result, in the event of premature wear of the grinding member of said sieve, the apparatus becomes unusable.
The invention obviates these various drawbacks; its object is a mill for pepper, salt, sugar, coffee and the like, comprising a receptacle with a distribution member for the subdivided material closing off one of its orifices and cooperating with grinding members, characterized in that the cover, forming a sieve and constituting a conjugate grinding member, closes the single orifice of the receptacle, any one of the grinding members being mounted to rotate with respect to the receptacle facing the corresponding fixed grinding member.
To operate this device, it suffices to turn it over, so that the cover is directed downwards, which brings the material to be subdivided into contact with the grinding organs, then, now with one hand or the cover. - key, or the container, to animate the container or the cover with a rotary movement in the appropriate direction.
When the container is no longer in use it is
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
turned over so as to present its cover at the upper part, which offers the advantage of avoiding any permanent contact between the metal parts constituting the grinding devices and the material to be subdivided which could attack them.
In addition, the independence of the distributor cover and of the combined grinding member makes it possible to replace only one of these members when it is worn.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the same receptacle comprises several distinct chambers each provided with a single orifice closed and arranged as has been said previously.
Some embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 17 shows it in perspective, seen from inside;
Fig. 18 shows the orifice of the container;
Fig. 19 shows in elevation a mill whose container has two independent chambers.
The mill shown in Figs. 1 to 4- comprises a container 1, the orifice of which constitutes a cylindrical bead 2 projecting from the body of the container and provided on its edge with a certain number of radial notches 3, intended to receive the tabs protrusions 4 of a grinding member 5. The latter is here constituted by three elements of helical surfaces 6, the upper edges of which are flush with the orifice of the receptacle (FIG. 1).
When the receptacle is filled with the material to be subdivided, peppercorns X for example ,. its orifice is capped by a cover 7 forming a screen, the lower edge of which is folded down at 7a below the bead 2 so as to allow it to rotate freely but to oppose its
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
removal. The mill constitutes a lost packaging of the material to be subdivided.
It works as follows:
The user, after overturning the container, immobilizes the cover by hand and causes the rotation of the container (he could of course immobilize the container and rotate the cover); the grains are then crushed between the helical grinding elements and the cover and flow in the pulverulent state through the holes of the screen.
The mill shown in Figs. 5 and 6 comprises a removable cover 8 forming a screen, the pressed edge of which so as to constitute a groove 9, is cut at several places over its entire height and forms a number of tabs 10 capable of moving apart by elasticity, so to cover the opening of the container; the groove 9 conforms to a bead 11 of the container thus ensuring a removable closure while allowing rotation of the cover.
It should be noted that the lid of the container does not necessarily constitute a sieve; in fig. The cover 12, made of plastic for example, is provided with radial grooves 13, while elastic tabs 14, by engagement under the bead 2 of the container, ensure its rotary attachment.
The mill partially represented in FIG. 7 consists of a receptacle 15, the upper part of which comprises teeth 16 (FIG. 9) extended by very tight teeth 17; the cover 18 (fig. 8), the edge 18a of which is preferably mounted removably on the upper bead 15a of the container, constitutes a ring 19, the very tight teeth of which form small channels with the (tines 17 of the container outlet 'opening into holes 20 in the cover. Teeth 21 which are further apart are intended to
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
receive the pieces of the material to be ground which are crushed by the teeth 16 of the container.
The mill shown in Figs. It and 12 is constituted by a container 1 whose edge limiting the opening 22 constitutes three ascending ramps 23, 24, 25 separated by bearings 26, 27, 28 located in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the opening 22. On these bearings rests a cover 29 provided with perforations 30 arranged in a ring located opposite the edge of the container; this cover, forming a screen, is maintained in rotary contact with the bearings 26, 27, 28 by folding down its lower edge 31, below a projection 32 of the container.
The operation of this device is as follows:
The container being turned upside down, the sieve at the bottom, the pieces of the material to be divided fill the spaces limited by the ramps 23-25 and the sieve; the sieve being immobilized and the container driven by a rotational movement in a suitable direction, the said plots are wedged between the ramps and the sieve, which causes their subdivision and their passage through the perforations of the sieve .
This device is intended to constitute a lost packaging of the material to be subdivided and becomes unusable after exhaustion of the latter.
This drawback can be overcome by using a removable screen of the type shown in FIG. 5.
Fig. 13 shows a variant in which an opening 33 is formed in the screen; internal wall of this opening comprises a thread 34 intended to receive by screwing the corresponding part 35 of the stopper 36.
This arrangement allows the container to be filled after the material contained therein has been used up.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
In fig. 14 to 18, the container 1 comprises only one chamber 37.
In fig. 19 it is divided by the partition 38 into two chambers 39-40. Each chamber has a single orifice 41 (fig. 18) which comprises on its internal peripheral wall four notches 42 and around its external peripheral part a thread 43 on which is screwed the tapped and folded edge. 44 of a stopper 45 forming a sieve. The center of this sieve is crossed by the axis 46 common to three helical crushing blades 47, 48, 49 (fig * 17), the scraper edges of which are in constant contact with the internal surface of the sieve 45.
The axis 46 is locked in the center of a ribbed spider 50 and integral with a crown 51, applied with gentle friction against a circular rib 52 of the screen plug and the edge 53 of which is straightened; rim and edge 44 of the sieve plug are knurled or ridged, so as to facilitate the setting.
In fig. 19, each of the chambers 39-40 of the container comprises a removable stopper formed as has just been said previously; thanks to this arrangement, one of the chambers can contain salt, for example, while the other contains pepper. It is possible, by rotating the crown 51, 53 of any one of the chambers, to obtain the crushing and the screening of the product contained therein. This arrangement can moreover be adopted with any one of the embodiments described above.
It is understood that the embodiments which have just been described and represented must be considered as forming an integral part of the invention, although they are given by way of examples, with regard to the characteristic. general, it can include many other embodiments, it is thus that the shapes and

accessory provisions of the various parts of the mills describes the dimensions, the constituent materials, as they are appropriate, the details and means of execution, such as the nature of the grinding members, the method of fixing the cover, the means ensuring The distribution of the powder material can vary without departing from the present invention.
