<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Mechanical craft for braided skins
The present invention relates to a mechanical loom for rocket skins, comprising an ordinary loom frame, on which are stretched strips forming the chain, and between which is passed a thong constituting the weft.
The mechanical loom according to the invention does not include a shuttle, but the strap which must constitute the picks is driven in one direction by a claw moving in a back and forth movement over the entire width of the leather fabric.
The weft thong is maintained and cut automatically each time it has passed through the chain,
The mechanical claw in question comprises a fixed jaw and a movable jaw; the latter is held by a pivot and biased in its closed position, by an opposing spring, a controlled wedge being specially provided to maintain the claw in its open position.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This claw is held by a rod supported by a carriage controlling the movement of the claw; a stopper at the end causes the advancement of this rod, and consequently, the introduction of the wedge between the jaws, while a fixed lug on the rod is intended to meet a second stop to reset the rod and free, in this way, the jaw of the wedge.
The bited end is movable according to the width of the skin to be braided.
A fixed knife is provided to cut the weft strap after each stroke caused by the retreat of the upper cross member of the leaf.
Finally, a stop device is provided to hold the strap when it is to be cut; it consists of a pusher coming to press on this weft strap under the action of a lever moved by a suitable stop.
In the accompanying drawing is shown, by way of example, an embodiment of the present invention,

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The loom comprises an ordinary frame of a mechanical loom for weaving fabrics, but in which the shuttle is replaced by a special device for driving the weft thong, the latter being cut after each picks,
A leather thong a which can reach several meters in length by cutting, for example, the skin according to the Raskine invention, filed on June 14, 1929 under the N 284812, is wound on a drum b placed on the frame c of the loom ' mechanical.
As shown in Figs. 8 and 9, this strap is unwound on a table d which has a guide a preventing the strap from turning during the weaving operation. This guide e is provided so that the width of its The slide can be adjusted according to that of the strap to be used.
This separation is effected using screws f-f 'so that it suffices to screw or unscrew these to immediately obtain a slide corresponding exactly to the width of the strap to be used.
The strap a is advanced and introduced into the chain g, also formed of open straps, with the aid of a claw device h moving back and forth over the entire width of the fabric. This back-and-forth movement can be caused by an appropriate motor member. This type of organ is sufficiently well known that we do not need to describe any here, In the drawing (fig. 2) , it is indicated a connecting rod i giving this impulse to the claw device.
This claw device h shown in more detail in FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 comprises a fixed jaw h 'and a movable jaw h ",
The movable jaw h "is held pivotally on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
upper rigid part h of the device.
A rod j is attached at one o8té, to the movable jaw h "and passes to the other side, in a support against which a counter spring j 'rests in such a way that the jaw h" is always drawn towards the bottom.
To open the claw h, a wedge k is used which is introduced between the jaws h'-h "so as to maintain this claw in this open position; by removing the wedge k, the jaw h" returned by the spring I come to press against the jaw h ',
The movement of the wedge k can be operated as follows: the wedge k, in the form of a block, is fixed to a rod 1 which itself passes through a sheath l 'passing through the advancement carriage i' of the claw device to end with a stopper j ". This sheath carries the claw h which has been described above.
On the frame of the loom, a stopper m is provided which can be adjusted. so that the stopper j "comes into contact with it at the moment when the shoe has to be pushed between the jaws h'-h"
This contact between the stopper j "and the stopper m takes place when the carriage i 'is, so to speak, at the bottom of its return stroke. To shift the movable jaw h", it is necessary to remove the wedge k which l 'had been blocked, during the return of the claw device and by the blow struck by the stopper j "on the stopper m,
The wedge is removed, according to the drawing (fig. 2) by a goajon n fixed on the rod 1, and which strikes against a second stop o when the device arrives almost at the end of its forward stroke.
The end stop m is movable so as to be able to cause the claw to open, according to the width of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
chain.
Above the. table d and towards its rear end is placed a stopper now, at the desired moment, the strap a in a stationary position.
This stop device (fig, 8 and 10) comprises a pusher p guided in a support p '.
This pusher is actuated by a lever g pivoting at g '.
The end q "of the lever is rounded and is intended to come into contact with a receding pan fixed to the frame.
As the lever g is integral with the leaf s and must follow its movements, it follows that its side connecting to the pusher 2 will be forced to descend despite the weight being less than that of the other side of said lever g; a coil spring may possibly assist in the ascent of the pusher p after the end g "comes into contact with the stops r.
In its descent, the pusher will come to rest on the strap a, mobilizing it for an instant, ie the time necessary to cut it.
The device provided for cutting the thong consists of a knife t, the cutting edge of which may be at an angle, as shown in fig. 7. knife is held by a support t 'fixed on the frame of the loom.
This knife therefore remains in a stationary position, although its exact position can be adjusted by loosening the screw a which holds it in the support t '.
The strap laterally follows the movements of the leaf s qe which causes that, in its movement towards the knife, it comes into contact with the latter, which causes the section. of this thong has
The mechanical loom as described above operates as follows: When the loom is started, the claw device is moved in a reciprocating motion; advancing, the.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the jaws h 'and h "are in their open position. When the claw h has reached almost full travel, then the pin n wedged on the rod 1 carrying the wedge k abuts against the stop. o.
As the claw h advances still slightly and as on the other hand, the boc k is stopped, the jaws are released and the claw closes; the end of the weft strap shown in dotted lines on the table in figs. 8 and 9 was already ergées in the open claw, so that this end is trapped and that during the return movement of the claw, the strap .! is driven through the chain.
The claw then returns back and when reaching its starting point, the stopper j "fixed to the rod gives against the stop m. The wedge k is thus stopped, but as the claw h continues again and this, over a short distance, its recoil movement, the said wedge ± is introduced between the jaws h ', h ", opens them and maintains them in this position.
By opening, the. claw releases the front end of the strap,!. From: the other side of the loom, another operation takes place: that of cutting the strap a. This operation is done automatically by the movement of the leaf. Indeed, the lever tilting g abuts by its rounded end g "(figure 10) against the guide r, lowers the pusher 2 just above the front end of the table d and comes to rest on the end of the strap never when this the latter is thus caught, the oscillating movement of the leaf brings the strap a onto the knife t which cuts it to the width of the fabric. The open claw returns to the end of the strap which, in the meantime, is released again,
grabs it ..and makes it cross the chain all the way and so on.
The invention has been described purely as an indication and in no way limiting and it goes without saying that many modifications can be made to its details without
