<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
@
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Improvement brought to machinas to make the days, to sew and to embroider, with or direction crank.

sewing and embroidery machines, making the hems and stitches up to date ", the Applicant has described a device for direct and separate control of the oscillating movement of each of the needles by means of members having absolutely only movements of rotation around their axes, and by the intermediary of a single initial cam and a single connecting rod to transmit the movement to the oscillation system proper.
This mechanism had the drawback that the oscillations of the connecting rod were not made in a vertical plane because they formed a certain angle with the plane of oscillation of the members controlling the needle holders.
Also the articulations of this connecting rod at its two ends were formed by ball joint nuts of difficult manufacture and delicate adjustment and whose wear could not be compensated.
In addition, the elongations of the needles could be strictly equal only on condition of proportioning the distance of their points of attachment to their centers of oscillation, to the lengths of the rods which control them, which was quite difficult to achieve in practice. .
The improved control mechanism which is the subject of the present invention overcomes these two drawbacks. In this mechanism, the needle control rod is offset so as to always oscillate in the vertical plane, which makes it possible to use at each of its ends a cylindrical joint which is easy to manufacture and easy to adjust. .
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In addition, the mechanisms transmitting their reversed oscillations to the hands are produced by means of levers and rods so as to impart practically equal symmetrical oscillations to the hands, which makes it possible to obtain symmetrical movements for the hands, without any prior adjustment.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view.
Fig.2 is a detail view of the needle control mechanism.
Fig.3 is a side view of said mechanism, Fig.4 is a horizontal sectional view through XX of Fig.3.
Fig. 5 shows a plan of the adjustment system of the amplitude of the oscillation.
Figs. 6 and 7 show two other embodiments of the present invention.
The main tree I of the. machine, fig.l, communicates, via the pinions 2 and 3, its rotational movement to the cam 4, which rotates on the intermediate axis 5.
The cam 4 (fig.l) transmits to the connecting rod 9, by means of the two levers 6 and 7 and the connecting rod 8 *, the movements necessary to cause the oscillation of the needles.
The connecting rod a is rigidly connected to the sleeve 10 (fig.4), it is guided in. a cylindrical bearing 19 of axis y-y, so as to allow it sliding and rotational movements which are transmitted to the axis 20 through which the connecting rod 9 transmits its
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
movements, due to the cam 4, to the links la and 13 also articulated on the journal 20. the two links 12 and 13 are also articulated with two levers 14 and 15 which carry at their ends two pivoting bearings c and d in which slide the rods 16 and 17 forming an articulation lever around the points oo 'for the oscillation of the needles! and F'. and F'.
These axes ± and o 'are integral with a support integral with the main needle ports 18 of the machine, which is driven, as in all sewing machines, with a reciprocating movement in the vertical direction; the. rods 16 and 17 driven with the needle holder 18 slide in the bearings ± and! levers 14 and 15.
The lever 14 is pivotally mounted on a cylindrical axis mounted on a boss of the cast iron head of the machine (fig.3). The axis e is hollow so that the lever 15 can pivot in the axis of the lever 14, so that these two levers have the same pivot axis, one can adopt any other arrangement of the axes of the levers 14 and 15, place them in continuation of one another.
It can be seen that when the connecting rod 9 receives a horizontal movement back and forth under the action of the cam 4 and the levers 6 and 7, the articulated parallelogram, formed by the rods 12 and 13, the lever 15 and the upper part of the lever 14, will open or close following the movements of the connecting rod 9 and consequently, the ends of the levers 13 and 14 will move away from or come closer to the axis of the needle holder 18; consequently the axes 16 and 17 by the effect of the bearings ± and d will transmit the corresponding oscillating movements to the switches.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
It is obvious that the cam 4 could be arranged otherwise, for example on a vertical axis, the connecting rod 9 being in this case replaced by a square, or in any other way, which would not change the very principle of the oscillation of the - needles.
Fig.5 shows a detail of the system used for adjusting the amplitude of movement of the connecting rod 9 and as a result of the oscillation.
The lever 6, fig.l carries a roller rotating on the axis k, which enters a suitable groove, constituting the cam 4, 'the connecting rod 8 connects the 2 levers 6 and 7, respectively pivoting on their axes and p.
The lever 7 carries a circular sector r, in which the end of the rod 8 can move and be fixed.
It is easily understood that the stroke of the connecting rod 9 and consequently the oscillation of the needles will be increased or decreased depending on the position of the end of the connecting rod 8 on the ± sector of the lever 7. '
Figs. 6 and 7 represent two other embodiments of hand movement while maintaining the same principle.
In these two cases, the axes e e ', e' '. Are fixed to bosses of the cast iron head of the machine.
The connecting rod 9 fig. 6, as in the previous description, communicates a rotational movement around e '' to the lever M: the lever K is actuated by an extension 9 'of the connecting rod 9, the lever L of the gear P ; which separates or brings together the bearings c and d, integral with the levers K and 1:, and consequently gives the levers 16 and 17 a suitable movement as already described above.
Fig. 7 is only a variant of the previous figure. @

It goes without saying that modifications of detail can be made to the embodiments. which have just been described Without departing from the scope of the invention.
